After a few negative experiences at tourist attractions based restaurants, I was not optimistic walking into the Teahouse on a Sunday afternoon for brunch.
From the moment I sat down, the experience was nothing but positive. (The hostess did miss greeting me at the door, even though I paused and then walked to my table as they arrived earlier.) Our server was friendly but not pushy. As part of his job, he politely tried to upsell by offering sparkling water, but he did also offer tap water in the same sentence.
After the order was placed, bread was delivered to the table. I'm nitpicking but not knowing that bread is usually offered, we took on the waiter's offer to order freshly baked croissants. I'm not complaining because the croissants were excellent with that flaky crust that makes you want to pick up every single little piece that dropped onto the break plate.
Then came the Manhatten style clam chowder. You can taste and smell the freshness of all the ingredients - the veggies and the clams. A hearty start.
Our party ordered a wide variety of brunch entrees and they all looked fantastic. First, all were beautifully presented. Second, the portions were big. But third, and of course, the most important, the food tasted great!
My eggs benny was certainly a step up from your standard. The eggs were especially fresh, the English muffins were not overly done, the sausage was meaty, and the ham was so rich in flavour.
Other guests at the table had waffles, ducks, fish and chips and steak and eggs. All received good reviews from its "consumers".
The main thing that allowed this is service and the attitude each server displayed. Very professional, courteous, knowledgeable (although I did accidentally trip one up by asking him the name of the fresh flowers on our table). This is night and day compared to another restaurant at a tourist spot that I reviewed. Very nice experience in the end. My 2+ hours there did not feel long at all.
