Where to Celebrate Dry January 2022 in Chicago | Eater Chicago

"With locations in Hyde Park, Chinatown, and off the Mag Mile, Te’amo Boba Bar is a chain with Hong Kong-style milk teas, boba, matcha, and more. Also, look for smoothies and loose-leaf teas." - Aimee Levitt

This place is so cute! The employees here are so sweet and professional and helpful. The environment was clean. If you have never tried the cheesecake bao, I highly recommend. They also have a variety of beverages and donuts and BEAUTIFUL cheesecakes!!

Melissa Uribe

Google
Delicious brown sugar organic milk tea in a cute clear can! My son loved it! Great flavor and chewy boba. Perfect for this hot day!

Joanna Ratliff

Google
I went here with my mom and we both loved it! The drinks are delicious and the style of the cups is unique. Unfortunately, we did get lost following Google Maps' instructions on getting here because it led us to the employee only entrance on the back of the building.

Google
Cute little boba shop. There were a few in the area and this one was the highest rated. I got a lavender matcha and we also got a combo that came with a matcha bun and an Oreo mochi donut. Prices were a little high and I was not a huge fan of their flimsy paper boba straws but the drinks and snacks were good

Stephany Rios

Google
It was my first visit in Chinatown I definitely recommend this place to come visit, everything is decorated beautifully and the prices are very affordable drinks, and desserts are delicious and everything is made with organic ingredients!

Google
The Cheesecake Bao was pretty good, and the tea was okay. The can type packaging was a novel experience, but functionally didn't make much sense.. the tables were almost all dirty though, and the restroom was too. The staff were friendly enough, if a bit standoffish.

Marilyn Janet

Google
We got the strawberry fresh squeezed lemonade and it was very good and citrusy. We will definitely come back again just for their lemonades. Be ready to spend $8+ on each person.

Google
Their milk boba tea was so cool. The packing does it all. Please view pictures for more information. The place is small and a little cluttered. But over all good vibes. The ordering booth and the seating area is all together so it can get very crowded

Yelp
Nice and clean place in Chicago's Chinatown. There are 2 kiosks from which to order. It was pretty user-friendly. We ordered two drinks with boba and one without. The drinks come in some tall plastic cans that open like soda cans. Everything tasted just right. Sweetness was perfect. Bobas were soft, chewy, and flavorful. We were happy with all of the items. The girl who helped us was efficient. There were barely any interactions with the staff, but the few we had were short and cordial.

Yelp
Had Te'amo Boba Bar while waiting for our table for dinner with family. I ordered the white mustache green tea and my boyfriend got the Okinawa milk tea. We both got boba with our drinks. The downside to our visit was their system was down and only accepting cash at the moment. It luckily wasn't an issue as our cousin had cash with him. The packaging is a cool concept with it being a sealed lid. The only downside is it can easily be spilled since it's just a big hole once it's opened. The white mustache green tea had a good balance of creaminess and fresh notes. The Okinawa milk tea wasn't bad itself either. It was nice roasted flavor! The boba was also the perfect texture. Overall, it's a good boba place. There's a lot of options to pick from and you'll find something to your liking.

Yelp
Got the matcha foam with milk bubble tea. Very creamy matcha flavor with perfect sweetness and matcha taste. Better than I expected since I haven't like foam drinks in the past.

Yelp
While not my favorite Boba place, the drinks are always delicious and the shop itself is incredibly cute. Depending on the location, the selection of drinks varies, some places only have a smaller number of drinks while the other ones have the full menu. I think I like the desserts more than I like their drinks. Definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
A cute spot in Chinatown where I enjoyed watching them use a can sealer machine to prepare the boba. The strawberry milk boba was delightful! While the place could be tidier, I definitely recommend stopping by for a boba if you're in the area.

Yelp
Always wanted to go here this was my first time! the brown sugar milk tea was good not too sweet added boba didn't come with. staff was nice very helpful with the drink options and very clean inside

Yelp
Amazing how good and much better this is!!! Loved every aspect of this place and sizable amount to share!

Yelp
First time coming here. Clean, friendly and delicious! Workers are helpful. So many different items and cute decor.

Yelp
Coffee was prepared in a good time and well mixed. Gave me a generous amount of boba too.

Yelp
I never think I will buy their dessert in Chinatown in their so few location around Downtown. My mom stopped by since she wanted the coconut pudding so bad, the location near millennium park sold out the other day since it was less than an hour before they closed. She the the coconut pudding was smoother than the location at Navy Pier.

Thomas T.

Yelp
Yummy!! I got the popular dalgona strawberry drink for $7.8 (including tax). it's very creamy and delicious! Would come back!!
google avatar

Yelp
Super Cute find in the Chinatown Center in Chicago! We saw that they had a good variety besides just drinks so we had to give it a try! You order on the kiosks if you plan to use card, but pay up front if cash. We were intrigued by the cheesecake baos. I will say its a little more on the pricey end, ($11 for 2 baos) but they're relatively big. But man they were delicious! Nice and warm and gooey! The taste wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. No regrets on buying them! I'm not from here but this place is definitely on my bucket list for each time Icome here! Parking may be tough bit its definitely worth it! Give them a try!

Yelp
Unique refreshing drinks for a stroll on a warm day. I got the mango lemonade which was pretty good. A bit on the sweet side but once watered down by the ice it was good. I would say this place has good bubble tea choices for an Americanized bbt experience. You place your order on a kiosk and your drink comes in around 10 minutes. Good amount of seating inside.
google avatar

Jasmine A.

Yelp
Super cute spot with friendly and fast service! Definitely worth trying out. One of my favorite boba spots coming I have to check out every time I'm in town.
google avatar

Walter A.

Yelp
Stopped in for Matcha and Thai Tea drinks with Boba. Splurged on the Tiramisu crepe cake. I appreciate that you can actually taste the tea rather than the drink being too sweet. Everything was awesome.
google avatar

Crystal E.

Yelp
It's self service if you're paying card! I didn't try the boba but a lot of people were getting boba. I did try the mango "panna cotta" and it tastes like a mango pudding with sago that you get a dim sum. I would get again!
google avatar

Yelp
This small but pretty location offers a variety of colorful boba beverages (ready for your Instagram!) as well as some desserts. They were out of ramune soft serve so my boyfriend got strawberry: it was super creamy and light. I got a strawberry shortcake which was ok but the cream was slightly odd and also had unexpected jellies mixed in which I definitely didn't need. The one complaint was noise. The space is small and for a good amount of the time we were here a group of about six 20somethings were here talking loudly under a slanting part of the ceiling so it just magnified the sound. Tone it down! Overall, this was ok but I would likely try someplace else for dessert the next time I am in Chinatown.

Yelp
Had bought two buns and saved the second one for later, when going back to it I found a long hair embedded in the breading of the bao bun
google avatar

Lily N.

Yelp
The matcha dalgona is some of the best ive had! The mango milk with oat milk is also so good esp with crystal boba. I want to come back and try the strawberry mango smoothie! Love supporting AAPI women-owned businesses :)
google avatar

Ana M.

Yelp
The first time I came here I didn't care for it. I decided to give it another shot, and to my surprise I loved it. We ordered the Oreo smoothie and the strawberry matcha. Both are delicious This is definitely a super cute spot to impress a first date or out of town friends. Average price for the area, and the cups are the cutest.

Torie L.

Yelp
The the strawberry smoothie was so delicious and the chocolate cake was very creamy even with my hate for chocolate it made me like it

Yelp
Even though this place has a lot of positive reviews, im afraid I can't agree, this place is overrated, overpriced, and mediocre. I seriously don't understand how people like this place. I understand that it looks luxurious and pretty, but the taste just isn't it. The menu is limited, not much options, and the prices are ridiculous. Not to mention that the drinks/food don't even taste that good. With my experience, the boba tea was watered down, wasn't sweet at all, the boba was really god though. Sweet and sugary. Additionaly, the mochi donuts were stale, old, and the frosting was thick and overpowering. I would recommend going to mochinut for mochi donuts, and international markets boba shop for boba. Don't waste your money on this place, please. It's not worth it.

Yelp
First time here. I'm a bubble tea enthusiast, so when I saw that it was an organic joint, I had to try it. I ordered the brown sugar tea latte with boba. The boba was small, good consistency, not too mushy not too hard. The drink was good, but the amount you get for the price was a turn off. I was basically done with my drink after 10-12 sips. That said, if you're using all organic ingredients, it probably costs more so I get it. There were two women working the counter. Since I was new to the shop, I asked what was in a particular drink before I made my decision. The woman who answered me was rude. Instead of just telling me, she basically implied that I should have looked at the description on the screen to find out. It's not so much what she said but HOW she said it. I noticed that she was much friendlier to the Asian customers who came in after me. Not sure what that was about, but it definitely made me not want to tip very much, if at all. The aesthetics were cute. I could definitely see some Gen Z youths loving this for an Instagram moment. Go here, don't go here, I don't know.

Yelp
Decided I wanted to drink something refreshing at Te'amo today and got myself a banana milk drink! Super tasty and not too sweet! This boba place is super aesthetically pleasing and they have added more things to the menu since my first time here. Hope to try new things from here soon!
google avatar

Mandisa N.

Yelp
YUM! This place and the cups they serve the drinks in are so cute. It's kind of self service; you walk up to a screen and order your drink and they'll call your order number when it's ready. The space is small and popular, so it can feel a little cramped, but that's generally the case for all the restaurants in this strip of Chinatown. I'm a big fan of banana and strawberry milk and absolutely enjoyed the two. I would definitely recommend trying this place out. If I lived in chicago, I would be here ALL THE TIME and try out everything they have
google avatar

Yelp
This was the first boba place that I tried in Chicago and I was really sad that I did not like it. I was walking around Chinatown and I was enticed by the Gacha game marketing that they had. We ordered a regular black milk tea with boba along with the lottery sleeve. The drink was just really watered down and the tea just tasted diluted. Boba itself was kind of mid too, a bit too chewy and soft for my liking. They also forgot our cup sleeve that we paid an extra $2 for The staff was very nice and accommodated us nicely. The drink came out relatively quick too. The overall store was quite cute but it's not the best place to just chill with friends and grab a drink just because the space is so small. But did enjoy the lottery gacha marketing scheme, got a cute magnet out of it!
google avatar

Cassidy A.

Yelp
The Ube donuts were amazing! Beautiful and delicious drinks! We paid with cash and asked the cashier he favorites, she was so helpful!
google avatar

Charissa F.

Yelp
One of my favorite boba bars. It's cute, sometimes they host pop ups, and the pastries & tea are spectacular. If you're not sure what to order, get the strawberry milk tea with a cheese mustache. The mustache is a whipped cream cheese type foam and the drink is so good. If you're a strawberry lover, definitely get that! My only qualm is that you can't choose the sweetness of the tea and they are pretty sweet.
google avatar

Ray Z.

Yelp
Yummy mochi donuts and staff are very nice! The order process is very efficient at the kiosk. The atmosphere inside of the restaurant is very homely. I recommend coming here if you are in Chinatown!
google avatar

Jasmine G.

Yelp
This is so cute in the packaging. taste is good. I love it..the atmosphere is photo worthy and a cute place to take your partner. The service is cool. They text you when your order is ready

Yelp
Located inside a mini mall (The Shops at North Bridge), there is a food court upstairs. Was thirsty so wanted something small. Didn't know it was a milk tea chain. We ordered on the machine and got the Mango Lemonade $7. It came in a soda can container. The drink was pretty refreshing with an additional carbonation along with it. Very interesting. Just something quick and easy.

Nicolas T.

Yelp
The quality of the drinks, and atmosphere were amazing. One of the more interesting boba shops I've been to. I think the cans are cute too, definitely recommend!
google avatar

Lindsey C.

Yelp
Ordered the Mango Smoothie with mango jelly, Banana Milk Drink with strawberry jelly, Japanese Strawberry Yogurt Cake and a Mango Lava Mousse Cake. Both drinks were really good, but I definitely enjoyed the mango smoothie more. Really liked the Japanese strawberry yogurt cake, but only get it if you're a fan of yogurt. The cake is moist, yogurt isn't overpowering and the strawberries complimented it well. Finished the mango lava mousse cake in minutes - it was light, not overly sweet and incredibly delicious!

Yelp
I was really impressed with their rose tea latte. I think a lot of places skimp out on the rose flavor and you can't really taste it, but this one was really great. They also adjust sweetness well. I requested 50% sweetness and they did it perfectly to my taste -- barely sweet at all. So if you like your tea on the sweeter side don't be afraid to go for 100%! If you don't like it sweet, don't worry, they'll make it well if you adjust the sweetness. I really only took off a star because it's a bit pricey and the milk tea options are very limited -- seems like their specialty is really shakes, lemonades and desserts, which sort of threw me off since it's marketed as a boba bar.
google avatar

Shem R.

Yelp
Amazing boba, will come again! The boba had a soft feel and tasted fresh while the sharpness of the tea comtemplated the boba. Also got 2 percent milk with my boba highly recommend.
google avatar

Danny S.

Yelp
visited chicago for the first time, the establishment seemed very clean. and the drinks look amazing!
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
Fast and clean. This boba bar combines neat/unique flavors with traditional offerings. My daughter devoured her tea and the leftovers of my drink. The banana milk was the house favorite though.
google avatar

Yuki M.

Yelp
I'm not local, so I have been here only twice. My first time was about two years ago. At that time, they had a bigger size of Japanese strawberry yogurt shortcake and I loved it so much! That was why I came here again recently when I visited Chicago, but I was so disappointed in the new look of the shortcake. I think the price was same or maybe a bit more expensive, but the portion got much smaller in a square plastic container. It is overpriced now. I was still hopeful for the taste. Then, hmmm... it was such a sad moment. I obviously didn't have the same excitement as I ate it at the first time. I don't think I'll buy it again.
google avatar

Yelp
I have heard Te'amo many times. This is my first time tried their drink. I got their most famous milk tea with add on jelly, and 50% sugar. Overall ordering process is fast. Even there are few people waiting but the line moves fast. And the staff smile at me which elevates my mood as well. The drink is good. Milky and sweet. If you like strong milky flavor milk tea, then this is a good spot to try it out. Knock out on star because I don't like the boba. It's too soggy.
google avatar

Sam L.

Yelp
Went with a couple of friends for a post-lunch dessert. For some reason I kind of thought te'amo was all about the vibe and had just okay boba. And it is true that the vibe is probably more noteworthy than the boba (beautiful decor, everything from the tables and chairs to the pillows is interesting and aesthetic), but I thought my drink was good! I ordered the white moustache tea (assam with cheese foam top), and my friends got the thai tea and a regular boba. We also got two doughnuts to share. The doughnuts were pretty standard, sweet with decent flavor and texture, and they looked cool haha. The drinks were pretty standard as well, nothing to complain about. I will say the cups they come in are super cool, and the christmas special cups are cute. Also, who knew a boba shop would be selling christmas candles, but it was perfect for a last minute gift I needed to get. Great place overall! I think it's definitely worth a try, and I wouldn't be surprised if I find myself here again.

Yelp
Take my review with a grain of salt, I know people are raving about this place, but I just wasn't that impressed. We walked in and were waiting in front of the cashier to order but no one helped us.. people then walked in after and went straight to the kiosk to order. That's when we realized that the register was to order with cash only, but either way, no one talked to us or helped us. After that we waited in line to order at the kiosk. I'm from California so I still haven't quite adjusted to the different ordering methods in chicago, which isn't their fault, but they could have said something to help us out while we were standing around. I say take my review with a grain of salt because we're simply not big boba people. I do like a good Vietnamese coffee, but this wasn't an option. We tried the dalgona coffee, which comes with boba. It was really good, don't get me wrong, I liked the hints of brown sugar type sweetness and creaminess and the boba was good! But I just didn't feel like it was worth price. A little pricey in my opinion, but if you're a big boba fan then try it out for yourself!

Yelp
We were craving some boba after lunch and we stopped by on a hot day. Te'amo is located in Chinatown Square in a plaza next to a bunch of other Chinese restaurants and shops. It's close to the Red Line station and there are also bus options if you're coming from downtown Chicago. When you walk in, you order at the kiosk. We got the volcano tea latte ($6.35) and the te'amo O2 ($6.99) which were both on their top sellers list. The volcano tea latte was really good and felt like a cross between a Thai milk tea and a creme brûlée. I was seriously addicted and now I know why this is a best seller. The te'amo O2 was like a floral lemonade. It contained multiple jellies including crystal boba which was good and sweet and balanced the tartness of the lemonade. The only thing is I wish they listed the ingredients in each drink. My first thought when we saw pictures of the drinks as well as our own was that they were really pretty and aesthetically pleasing drinks. You can also substitute milk for non-dairy alternatives which is really nice. I wish there was a location closer to me!
google avatar

Maddi V.

Yelp
I thought that all boba was close enough to the same. I was horribly mistaken - the boba at Te'amo is worlds above so many other boba places. It's full of flavor, not too chewy and pairs well with drinks. We went on a Friday night, and it was busy but not overwhelmingly so. We each ordered a matcha boba tea; I ordered mine with coconut milk and pudding added on. I loved the thickness that the pudding added to make it more like a milkshake. This was truly a delicious experience and now I'm craving that matcha boba drink again!

S. D.

Yelp
Beautiful hand crafted boba teas to go. Vegan options available. Small seating area inside. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Ms L.

Yelp
Long lines but worth wait. Mochi donuts n drinks. Coconut pudding is sublime. Only three in my party. Seating is limited.
google avatar

Yelp
The flavors are great! I love that you can choose the level of sweetness. Got the matcha latte and would be retuning for this
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful fun spot for a midday refresher. Amo todo aquí Excelente service, adorable clean

Yelp
As I search for my favorite bubble tea (specifically a classic milk tea with tapioca), I was a little disappointed at my first sip here. Not my favorite, and may not return, but my classic milk tea with tapioca was average. It was good enough to finish, nothing to complain about, but nothing to rave about. The milk tea itself tasted like it could have been made from powder to me. It may have very well been real tea (didn't ask), but it tasted like the milk tea that you can get from a can. Maybe its because I also put 100% sugar. Tapioca was also just okay. Decent, but not the best I've had. Could have been a little softer. Other than that, the atmosphere is nice, a bit higher end decor and they have a cool kiosk to order from.

Yelp
This place was on my bucket list. It is so cute on the inside and a walking esthetic. I got their namesake drink on the top 10 list and a churro mochi donut. The drink was not good - it tasted nothing like lemonade or tea or anything. It was cute to look at but not pleasing to my taste buds. The donut was dry and I ended up giving to my friend. Cute place but I will stick with one of the other great boba places in chinatown.
