Called in to order, and burger was ready when I arrived 10 min later. Burger itself was bland but perfect with cheese and mayo, ketchup, and pickle. Roll fresh and soft. Convenient walk up window. Park on the street. Looks like there are a few seats inside. Staff were nice and seemed excited that I was visiting from out of town and wanted to try a steamed cheeseburger.

First time I've ever gone to a restaurant based on a youtube video. On the way to Thompson Speedway I decided to stop. The burger was awesome. So were the home fries. I couldn't believe how fast my order was up. The dude at the counter was friendly. Will be back next time I'm in CT

The bread wasn't super good. It tasted kind of hard & cold the fries tasted like there was soak in oil

Google
I somehow am in a different place than most of the reviews. I may be missing it but I didn’t really care for the burgers. We got a plain burger so we could get the full flavor of a steamed burger and then got 2 Cheese burgers dressed, fries and onion rings. I found the burger to be incredibly dry and bland. Taking a bite of just the meat was really dry. The dressed burgers were a little better but I was missing the juicy saltiness of a perfectly cooked and seasoned burger. The fries and onion rings were tasty and the cheese on the burgers was really really good. Setting is an old school diner and very cool. Unfortunately I don’t think I am a fan of the steamed burger.

Google
All around great food great atmosphere everyone were so kind and helpful. Kind of pricey but the food is worth it. We paid 74$; for four of us getting fries and burgers so not so bad when you have that great taste. Everyone was welcoming and had great personalities. We get to watch how burgers are steamed And plates put together everything fresh. It's awesome. We will be coming back. I wish there were more places around Ted's is top notch. I recommend the burgers for sure. Drive right up to the door for dinning too so handicap aren't left in the car it is easy Access. Very easy to order too. we will be going back soon.

Google
Great place to eat we have been coming here for many years. The staff are amazing very helpful and very knowledgeable. The cooks try their best every time they step foot through the door. The people coming in so not seem so welcoming but it's how it is I guess. Small place but they seem to always know how to make things go smoothly. Ice cream to shakes to burgers to sandwiches.

Google
Steamed Hams? Why yes it’s a regional dialect. What region? Connecticut Well I’m from New Haven and I never heard the phrase steamed ham before. No no no, not New Haven, it’s a Meridian expression. I see Man these hamburgers taste absolutely amazing, although I personally prefer the Cajun fries. Oh ho ho, delightfully devilish Ted.

Google
I wanted to love these steamed burgers, but I didn't. I got a double black and blue. And we also tried the Hawaiian five-o. First off, the service was fine. Basically, our decision all came down to the meat. It was like eating a fat meatball with zero flavor to the meat. Everything else had taste, the buns, cheese, and other toppings.

Yelp
Come here for the food and bucket list check off. The staff was friendly and service was quick. Overall ambiance of the establishment is a small counter and tight dining area. What it lacks for in that, is made up for with the quality of the burger. If you only come here once you have to have the steamed hamburger. I decided to go with the BBQ Bacon and it was great. Amazing flavor and the cheese melted and infused with everything made it a tasty mess. Onion rings were good and I had to polish it off with a milk shake. Probably not the healthiest choice you will ever make, but you aren't coming here because you wanted a salad.

Yelp
This was a Burger Connoisseur's bucket list item of mine for years: Steamed Hamburgers in Connecticut! I had no idea what to expect other than that the burgers would be completely different than any I'd ever had before. That was absolutely the truth! Steamed hamburgers are like none I've ever had before, and not likely since. Imagine a well cooked hamburger with no loss of flavor or a charred or burnt taste. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the steaming doesn't take away from the experience of tasting the meat. It makes the experience a little more messy because there's a lot more moisture. In no way did it make the experience less enjoyable, and actually made it unique. So much so that I would by my own "steam chest" to have this as a burger prep option at home. The service was super helpful and friendly, and very proud of the unique contribution of Connecticut to the Hamburger World! If you're heading to Boston, the Cape, Maine, etc, add Meriden to your stops and hit up Ted's for steamed hamburgers!

Yelp
A central CT icon, Ted's original burger and the shop that serves it has not changed much even if the menu has expanded quite a bit in recent years. Fresh toppings, fresh roll and that melted gooey cheese makes this a must try burger. They now offer a multitude of sides, chicken sandwiches, etc. I always go with my standard - cheeseburger with sautéed onions and mushrooms and home fries with cheese. Walking in is like stepping back in time. The TV's on the wall are the only real give away. Service is always great. It's a no frills lunch and I hope it always stays that way.

Yelp
Ted's is Truth. I love everything about this spot. Got an egg nog milkshake the day after Christmas. Drinking a cake is cool and the cheeseburger is a loveburger.

Yelp
My husband saw this place featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri and really wanted to try the "steamed cheeseburgers" from here. No parking lot, but there's plenty of free street parking. They have 3 booths for indoor seating and 4 picnic tables for outdoor seating, depending on your preference. We got the double steamed cheeseburgers and 2 regular steamed cheeseburgers (1 plain and the other with toppings). All the food came out fairly quick, and the server always had a smile while taking and giving us our order. The burgers were served on vienna rolls instead of your traditional burger bun, which made it taste even better topped with swiss? cheese and your choice of toppings. They were moist and tasty with more than enough melted cheese to add an additional flavor profile. However, I thought the patty could be bigger/ flattened since there were more cheese and bread than meat. We've never had steamed burgers before, but these were definitely better (maybe healthier) than your typical Five Guys or fast food burgers. If you're traveling to Connecticut or in the area, try Ted's :)

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch to go. Cheeseburger with lettuce onion and mayo. It was delicious. The burger to bun ratio loss way better than the pictures look. The flavor is just beef with a little salty from the melted cheese.

Yelp
Well....I really wanted to love this place especially because I pass by it almost everyday. Unfortunately, I was very underwhelmed to say the least. We walked in and I am one for customer service...almost non-existent. The young lady said, "hello do you know what you want to order?" I responded, no, this is our first time and she handed me a menu. What I don't understand is WHY they have a menu with absolutely no pricing?! I could see that online but in-person is just silly. There are a couple booths for those who want to dine-in. We ordered 1 double cheeseburger (l,t,o,m,p and bacon) - $15.85! No fries, just the burger. I said to my husband, this burger must be amazing at that price. Ted's is known for 'steamed burgers'. We saw a man pressing ground beef into a little pans and popping them in a steamer box. No seasoning. No salt and pepper. And you could taste that when eating it. The bread was an untoasted Portuguese roll. We received our order pretty quick - 7 mins tops. It reminded me of my childhood when my mom would make homemade burgers in a pan - Except she seasoned the meat. Honestly, the best part of the burger was the stringy gooey cheese. Almost like the cheese in a mozzarella stick. I feel bad for having to leave this low review but I must be honest with my Yelp community.

Yelp
I visited here for various reasons....but the main reason I would return is for nostalgia sake. Inside is a small counter and dining area. I visited right before closing one weekday, and they were kind enough to stay open for me. I just ordered the basic burger and some fries and sat at the counter so I could see the process of steaming the burger. I would say the burger is just okay, same for the fries. This is not a fancy establishment nor a fancy burger by any means, so if you're looking for a gourmet burger, you should go somewhere else. However, this may be the best burger in town, so I would say just get used to it.

Yelp
Got a steamed cheese with onion and ketchup on a fresh hard roll. And a side of real potato home fries. The staff was friendly and the food delicious.

Yelp
I ate their chicken sandwich and enjoyed the complimentary barbecue sauce and fries. This meal was memorable and the people serving the food were nice.

Yelp
Glad to have a chance to visit Ted's again for those famous steamed cheeseburgers! Cheese was ooey gooey deliciousness! Battered onion rings hit the spot along with Foxin Park birch beer! Small, no frills place with only on street parking. Still as busy and popular as ever which is so great to see.

Yelp
Had the most amazing cheeseburger here on our drive to nyc. The cheese was so bubbly and the Texas mayo was delicious. It's a perfect neighborhood place with really good food and friendly people. The moment we walked in we were greeted so warmly and felt really welcomed. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
The best steamed burger spot in town! Great service and tasty food. Many ways to customize your meal. Lots of different side options, and great selection of floats you can get to drink. My only criticism is that the burgers never seem to have enough sauce and can make the burger overall dry. However, if you ask for extra sauce Ted's will gladly oblige.

Yelp
Tiny restaurant, opened in 1959, that's highlight is their steamed cheeseburger. The place is inside of a house-type building with 3 booths and a counter with 10 stools. The steamed cheeseburger is a CT-based food, as it's believed that the first steamed cheeseburger was made at a Middletown lunch spot called Jack's. I had never eaten a steamed cheeseburger before coming here, and I was not really a fan. The meat reminded me of when I tried to use a George Forman grill to cook meat in my freshman dorm. Pretty bland and with a soggy texture. My critique of steamed cheeseburgers being said, I still really liked this place. Their menu contained a bunch of other basic American food options in addition to the steamed cheeseburger, and they had a bunch of different toppings that you could add to your steamed cheeseburger. They also prepared all of my food extremely quickly and were very friendly. Additionally, if you sit at the counter you can see them preparing all of the food! I also tried the fries here and they were incredible! Very large, crisp, and fresh! 7.5

Yelp
Delicious huge steamed burgers. Their single size is double size at most other burger places. Cheese & parmesan fries are excellent. Definitely recommend. Service was great, only downside is that it's a small restaurant, but they do have outdoor seating.

Yelp
In New York, it's a political scandal when a knife and fork is used for pizza. I wonder if any Connecticut candidates have been similarly condemned for utensils while tackling a double everything from Ted's. I didn't get through this mighty sandwich without spillage. In a brief 2-day trip that involved PATH, subway, Metro-North, Amtrak, CT Rail, buses, Uber and a 1.2 mile walk from the Meriden train station, I wanted to get a classic item. But based on the juicy excellence I'm sure the brand extensions like the Hawaii 5-0 and Buffalo Bleu are fine too. Lesson for my next visit: I got a Pepsi but didn't know they had Foxon Park bottles here.

Yelp
I am an absolute diehard fan of Adam Richmond. After seeing Ted's on Man vs. Food I've been trying for years to get up here. Luckily I had some training for work in Connecticut so I figured I would schedule this in. Unfortunately it just did not live up to the hype of being world famous. My favorite part was the home fries with cheese, which are really just french fries slow roasted. The burger however was juicy but had zero flavor to it. It tasted like someone took a hamburger right out of the store package and through it in boiling water and put it on a bun. Absolutely tasteless. I tried the double cheeseburger, loaded french fries and home fries with just cheese. Problem with the cheese is it's 100 % like mozzarella. Once it gets a little cold, you have to rip it apart. It's not like a runny cheese at all. It took me years to get up here and I'm sorry, but I will never return. Just not my type of burger. I prefer flavor to my food.

Yelp
Ted's Restaurant is legendary for their Steamed Cheeseburgers. Along with hot lobster rolls and white clam pizza, Steamed Cheeseburgers are one of the most famous foods uniquely associated with Connecticut. I'll defer to the Wikipedia page for historical details. How famous are Steamed Cheeseburgers? The Hartford Yard Goats have never played as the Hartford Hot Lobster Rolls, or the Hartford White Clam Pizza. They have played as the Hartford Steamed Cheeseburgers, complete with theme appropriate uniforms, right down to the yellow bun hat, with lettuce, beef patty and ketchup stripes, and an "H" made out of fries. So . . . that famous. When you're reviewing a place like Ted's, you need to decide if you're treating it as an important part of food history, or comparing it to the best contemporary restaurants selling burgers. In other words . . . would you give a Ford Model T an average review because it's not a 2021 BMW? Would you give prime Bob Cousy an average review because prime Michael Jordan would have beaten him 11 - 2 in a game of one on one? Maybe you would, and that's fair. I choose to review Ted's as a historical restaurant because it's cool to keep something going that your state is known for. That means I can really only compare Ted's to itself, and to a discrete number of other places that have served steamed cheeseburgers. Today, I ordered a Ted's Steamed Single Cheeseburger with "everything except mustard", to use their language. That's steamed cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, ketchup and mayo. The bun, vegetable toppings and condiments were all good. The burger comes well done, which is not how I order a burger in modern restaurants. Although the Ted's Burger is well done, it is not dry, because the steaming process adds water. The joy in the steamed burger for me has always been the oozy steamed cheddar cheese. I haven't had a Ted's cheeseburger in a while, but the cheese today was stiffer than I remember in past Ted's Cheeseburgers, and the cheese was not oozy. For this reason, I'm giving Ted's Four Stars today. In any event, if you care about CT food history, Steamed Cheeseburgers and Ted's are on the syllabus. Now, excuse me while I go order one of those Hartford Steamed Cheeseburgers hats.

Yelp
Ted's is a place of pride locally! They were once featured on the food channel for their famous steamed cheeseburgers, so if you go, I'd highly recommend saving the chicken for another day and getting a burger! The ingredients are noticeably fresh, and the cheese actually is what stands out flavor-wise!! -- so good! Lots of toppings available, and the cooks are flexible with special requests/food allergies.

Yelp
How many steamed burger joints have you ever visited? Let's answer that question two ways: ON THE ONE HAND I've only ever visited one. How cool is that! How unique is Ted's! They're doing things differently here, and it's got such great character. We sat inside and watched the steam cabinet magic unfold before our very eyes. There it was, a bunch of trays with burgers, a bunch of trays with very generously sized cubes of cheese melted and dumped onto the top of burger, and served up wicked quick. Great crispy fries, simple burgs, very affordable prices... this is definitely a one-of-a-kind shop. ON THE OTHER HAND. I've only ever visited one. And you know, that probably makes sense. You have to ask yourself why the steamed meat technique didn't take off and we all enjoy steamed burgers all over the nation. And if the weirdly pale burger aesthetic doesn't answer the question, then the flavor of char or caramelization or crispiness that you find yourself missing certainly will. I actually liked the steamed burger--it was plenty juicy--but you will probably also end up feeling like if they just finished it on a super hot grill for like 30 seconds it would be even better. There's probably a reason this concept isn't ubiquitous. All in all, I'm giving mad love to Ted's. I loved everything about it. I loved the small shop, the friendly fast service, the lore, the unique concept. But gastronomically speaking, know before you go that you're going for something different.
google avatar

Robert D.

Yelp
The most bland and tasteless burger I've ever had. I don't understand how or why people think this place is so wonderful.
google avatar

Dave G.

Yelp
I have no idea how I haven't been to Ted's in 25 years in Connecticut! I'm so happy I was finally able to visit this local institution. The service was absolutely friendly and accommodating. I was reassured that the Cajun fries were one of the best sellers and, spoiler alert, they were the best Cajun fries I've ever had. Seasoned to perfection and each fry had the perfect snap and fluffy interior. I ordered a steamed cheeseburger with LTO, Mayo, Must and Jal. Ted's is the original for a reason. Juicy, juicy flavored burger with steamed, melty cheese. You just can't beat it. One of the best burgers I'ver ever had. It'll be a mistake on your part if you don't come and try Ted's!!

Ashley N.

Yelp
Oh my goodness so good!!! We got there right before close got off late The employees were so nice and served us anyways and helped us decide what to get since it was our first time! The hamburgers were huge! We could have split one and the Cajun fries so good! I got the western cheese burger and my husband got the hot and spicy one Thank you for a great experience!!

Andrew S.

Yelp
My fiancé and I stopped by Ted's this past weekend for a burger and fries. The food came out lightning quick and everything was fantastic. Unfortunately for the staff, a not so gentleman was berating his son for what we believe was a bad day of little league baseball. The man then berated the staff exclaiming that the food portions were "too small" and that he had been coming there since he was a kid and that they were never like that before. The gentlemen instructed his son to stop eating, paid for the food, and left. The staff handled this person with class when they had just about no reason to. Whenever my fiancé and I stop in, we're met with happy faces and great food. Ted's is the best and their staff is masterclass.
google avatar

Kerrie D.

Yelp
Ummmm...Hmmmm.... Have wanted to check out Ted's steamed burgers for years after first seeing them on the Food Network and reading about them in Road Food. On this particular trip, we planned our drive around a stop at Ted's and.... the burgers were ok. They were much smaller than the bun and cooked in an almost big meatball shape, with a dry crumbly texture. Staff was super friendly though and the small metal steaming drawers of meat and cheese were VERY cool!

Greg P.

Yelp
Fantastic burgers!!! Quick stop after Middle School basketball game this place is amazing!!!!
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
My stepfather lives and dies by this place and they definitely have a loyal following. For me, I didn't get it. The burger reminded me of a scab that falls off in the pool. I'll stick to grilled stuff from now on

Yelp
The Connecticut hamburger trifecta has now been completed. Somehow the Connecticut claim to fame is they invented the hamburger in their state. If they really want it, I'll give it to them. I mean, New York is famous for pizza, bagels, hot dogs and baseball. You want burgers? Fine. Louis Lunch, Shady Glen and now Ted Restaurant all have a unique burger. I do like that all these Connecticut burgers can be enjoyed for under $10 dollars. What these television shows don't tell you is the actual taste of the burger. You can see the picture. It looks like a nice size burger. The Teds restaurant burger IMHO takes the #3 slot for Connecticut burgers. And what threw me was the meat cooking process. They take two tins, one has cheese and the other has the meat. They take the tins and put them in a steamer. The meat cooked in its own juices so the patty isn't a dry burger. It's just a flavorless burger. There's no texture or caramelization you'd get from a traditional flattop burger. And I'm sure 50 years ago they had salt and pepper?? I guess my biggest beef, I've said this about the owner at Louis Lunch. We're in the 21 century. Get wild! Take that steamed burger and throw it in a pan! There's no one to call and get you in trouble. Ted or son of Ted. That guy from Louis Lunch is a basket case. No ketchup?? C' on dude. I say relax and make changes. If I took you to New York City, our first stop would be at a Josh Capon restaurant to try his burger. You'd say: What the hell have I been doing with steam all these years? Steam the cheese, it's not for burgers! Son of Ted? 3 Yelp stars from me.
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
Amazing little burger joint just off the Berlin turnpike. Probably the best steamed burger have ever eaten. Imagine, pulling up a stool, and watching a master chef open a pressure chamber. Steaming like a demon, little coffins of juicy stewing ground beef, are deftly pulled into set up, kaiser rolls with your typical spreads ketchup, mustard, mayo, one slice tomato, lettuce, and onion. Then while steaming, slathered in. Molten mozzarella cheese. Can it get any sexier? If you're in the area u gotta try! Be warned though parking is small capacity.
google avatar

Robert F.

Yelp
Came here to try the world famous steamed hamburgers this restaurant is known for. We both got the steamed cheeseburgers, fries and a couple of Coke's. The staff, the food both didn't disappoint!! We loved our food!! And will visit again before we head back to the West Coast!! Should've taken a photo of our food, but was super hungry, so we took a photo of the outside before we left.

Yelp
I finally came here in the fall of 2021 after having this place bookmarked for years. Every road trip I took up to Connecticut had me trying New Haven style pizza (which is totally fantastic by the way). But back to Ted's, it's definitely smaller then what I envisioned from seeing it on a multitude of food shows. There are only a few tables inside, but the inside was closed when I visited due to covid. The take out line was a few people deep in front but the staff had it moving along at a nice pace. The steamed cheeseburger was great but I wouldn't recommend taking a few extras home. You need to eat these bad boys fresh. It wasn't the best burger I ever had but it was on the unique side, which is always nice to try something different. Their menu is larger than I expected so you aren't just stuck with a burger and fries......but that's the only reason why I came. It's definitely worth a try.
google avatar

J B.

Yelp
Love this place! Milkshakes taste pretty good, though not perfect hence why I'd give them a 4.5 rounded to 5 stars. But everything else is as good as can be. The steamed burgers are juicy. The cheeseburgers and cheese sandwiches do not skimp on cheese in both quantity and quality. The atmosphere is great, the turnover quick and the service friendly. The fries and chicken tenders come out beautifully crisp and golden, looking expertly fried. They seem to try to have something for everyone, even offering a solidly decent gluten-free bun as an add-on option.
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
I collect food experiences, but if I were a local, I'd probably eat these 6 to 8 times a year. The service was super fast, the food was good and the price was reasonable. Things to consider. The patty is not a thin flat top patty but a thick steamed one - so this is a beef forward burger. It doesn't get the carmelization - so the meat tastes plain. Be thoughtful about your toppings, cuz that's what makes ro breaks the experience. Sauted onions or mushrooms will give you a little grilled taste. The lettuce was a whole leave of butter lettuce - nice touch. The tomato slice was tastey and the bun super soft and fresh.
google avatar

Aakanksha S.

Yelp
A steamed cheeseburger may SOUND like a terrible idea, BUT....yeah. It is. Both my friend and I agreed that this was the worst burger we've ever had. The steaming process results in a flavorless patty with a gross, loose texture. I wish I could say the shakes made up for it, but they were fine at best, and my friend's shake had a giant mass of chocolate sprinkles at the end. We weren't fans.
google avatar

Gerald H.

Yelp
Wow. I saw this place on a show online and looked good - but I had no idea how good it would be. We stopped here on a weekday while heading more north, and even though it was rainy and cold and foggy and hell, we still walked up. They were nice enough to put a canopy over the order window so people wouldn't get wet while waiting. There wasn't an outside eating option due to the weather so eating in the car had to happen. The food was so good - I ordered a double (two burgers side by side on a sub roll), topped with the steamed cheese, and I added lettuce, onion, tomato mayo and ketchup. It was so damn good. The fries I would say take it or leave it, but the burger was insanely good and so much better than a grilled burger for me. Well worth the slight pitstop from a drive to Boston via Providence.
google avatar

Allison D.

Yelp
Teds Yum! Not like other steamed burgers. The best steamed cheeseburgers I have ever had! There has never been a burger that I craved until having one from Ted's. Nothing fancy here but there doesn't need to be when the food is this good. Try it you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Klint S.

Yelp
Teds burgers are amazing best burgers in Meriden I go nowhere else my go to burger at Ted's is the chipotle burger with onion strings it's amazing like any place. You have to wait a few minutes to get rewarded with good tasting food although it's really not that long of a wait, I recommend this place highly I take my food seriously being that I am Hawaiian and Hawaiian's love to eat. I am a cook myself these burgers are so good Aloha.

Yelp
I was here back on Feb 15th due to being in the area and hearing many good things about this place. Well, they were partially true. Decent place. Good service that we ordered from the waitress to go. But the cheese fries were very bland. See pic. Just some American cheese thrown on and melted. Lacked flavor. The hot dog was alright. The cheeseburger while good was not amazing. Seemed and tasted just like many other cheeseburgers out there despite being steamed. No difference to us. May try them again to see if any difference in the future if in the area. Cute cozy small clean place though. Easy parking on the street right out front.

Yelp
I came into Ted's Resturant with high expectations as my colleague was talking it up! Unfortunately this place did not live up the expectation he created. It's a tiny little hole in the wall with little to no parking. It's more lengthy then it is wide - for a random weekday afternoon it was quite packed and we were pretty lucky to grab a table from a leaving couple. We ordered two steamed burgers one with cheese one without and fries. Both burgers came out with cheese - so I had to send one back to get the cheese taken off. I'm not used to the consistently of a burger that was steamed and it really threw me off. Other then the consistency the burger was bland and not seasoned at all! The fries were probably the best part of the whole meal.

Gabriel R.

Yelp
Love their food, the ladies where nice and respectful and gave some good advice on what to try like the crispy chicken sandwich with garlic avocado Mayo and most definitely gonna try it on their burgers next and great customer service.

Yelp
My uncle took me to Ted's years ago and I became obsessed. Maybe it was doing something special with my uncle or that nobody (not even my uncle) would take me there again later. I think a little of it had to do with that my only exposure to steamed burgers was White Castle and I was surprised that a steamed burger could be substantive and tasty. What I like about steamed burgers are twofold. For one thing, they're well-done but still juicy. For another thing, the steamed cheese on top is other-worldly! It is somehow a little aerated and squishy - kinda like a really dense quiche. I am itching to try the cheese on top of the fries! I've tried a number of burgers including the basic cheeseburger, Hot and Spicy, Hawaii Five-O, and California Steamin'. My favorite is the California Steamin' because of the contrast of the rich burger flavors with the refreshing, crisp vegetables. The other burgers are a little too heavy and one-note to me. For example, I expected the Hot and Spicy to be interesting, but it tasted kinda like a regular bacon cheeseburger (except with limp, chewy bacon) and barbecue sauce. The pickled jalapenos were super mild and didn't add anything. Ted's has veggie and chicken burgers for folks who don't eat beef. They have a number of other menu items too, but I only go for the steamed burgers, fries and milk shakes. The fries are really good. I like that they look as if they're cut from real potatoes. I like the seasoning too (I've tried garlic and Cajun). As I mentioned earlier, I'm itching to try their cheese fries! They've messed up every single time I've ordered a milk shake. I've ordered a peanut butter milk shake twice and I got vanilla the first time and cookies and cream the second time. I was on the road when I figured it out and it wasn't worth going back to have them fix it. I recommend you try your milk shake immediately to make sure it's what you ordered. In regards to ambiance. Well. You park on the street (and it's a pretty busy street) and walk up to the window. I ordered online once and they didn't have it. I had to show them the receipt on my phone and they filled the order for me. Since then, I've ordered in person. You queue up outside and order from the window. Way back when, you could go inside and sit at the counter. Now you can sit outside at picnic tables between the restaurant and an auto mechanic and watch people vacuum their cars at the car wash across the street.

Yelp
A CT Staple. Steamed Cheeseburgers And Ooooooh that Gooey Cheese I came with a group of 3 and 2 of us got burgers the other chicken. We split cheese & bacon fries and all really enjoyed the meal Not many tables but we were able to snag one. Street parking is not an issue in this area. We will definitely be back for another round soon

Yelp
Got a hamburger from Ted's food truck at a festival and it was good but nothing crazy. If you're feeling hungry and want a quick bite then this is it!

Yelp
I came all the way from Detroit to experience steamed cheeseburgers and I didn't leave disappointed. Service was quick and to be honest that was the best burger I've ever eaten. My Cajun fries were cooked and seasoned perfectly. If you're in the New England area, give this place a shot. If you don't like spicy, there is a huge list of special burgers, or you can build your own from scratch. Somewhat typical New England situation regarding parking. You guy are used to it but, but you will need to parallel park to access this restaurant. Price was $21 for both items and the burger is essentially two servings, so I'll be eating the other half for dinner. Great shake selection. Lactose intolerant, sorry.

Yelp
One of the those must try restaurants when in Connecticut. The stream burgers are good but that steamed cheese takes it over the top. My suggestion is in addition to the burger try the chicken sandwich with cheese... amazing!

Yelp
I've been coming to Teds for at least 2/3 (i'm 31) of my life and that alone should speak to how amazing their burgers are. Their original location in Meriden is a small and quaint restaurant with some indoor seating. It gives a small town diner feel. I've watched them expand over the years and it's one of the best little businesses in Connecticut. I generally get the "everything" burger, loaded home fries and a cream soda. The star of the burgers in my opinion is the cheese. No one and nothing can replicate how good the cheese mixture is on a Teds burger. Their home fries have always been my favorite home fries and putting the cheese over them is perfection. If you're looking for a hearty filling burger from super friendly staff this is the place to go to.

Yelp
If you are in Connecticut and you are a burger fanatic then you have to have a steamed cheeseburger and of course you get it at the place where they have been serving it since 1959!!! It's a tiny house but the food is made fresh to order and tastes great! I'm not gonna lie to you and tell you it's the greatest burger I've had... I like a bit more meat and I love the char on my burgers! And I do like my buns warmed up and buttered on the grille... but each to his own! I wish they would serve a softer bread... I think it would complement the burger better... But you cannot get better cheese melted on top of your burger than what I had here! It's melted and gooey and just enough chew to make it not a secondary add on but probably the main attraction! The regular fries are served crisp and complements the soft burger well! I didn't enjoy the home fries with chili and cheese as much (except for the cheese)... But if you're ever in CT... you have to come and try it for yourself... especially if you are a burger nut!

Yelp
I'm not sure where I read up on this "steamed" burgers thing but when I did, I bookmarked Ted's and here I am. Slow on a weeknight at around 8pm but a few take out orders were picked up while I enjoyed my meal so they're doing good business. They have a pretty good list of burger toppings already thought up, including bacon, barbecue sauce, various vegetables, different cheese and such. Home fries and french fries also available topped. I ordered the "everything" cheeseburger (LTO, pickles, mayo, ketchip) with small fries. The burger didn't take too long to be prepared and brought to my table as ordered. Stil super hot from the steamer and the cheese on top was almost a liquid when I bit into it and some of the juicy goodness poured onto my hands. Delicious. A completely different flavor than grilled or fire cooked burgers. Much meatier and certainly juicier. Well worth the stop that is just off the highway anyway!

Yelp
Quite possibly the best burger I've ever had! My fiancé lived in CT at one point in his career, and he mandated that we stop here while traveling through the area. Due to COVID there is no inside service available, and all orders must be placed at the exterior walk-up window. The restaurant does have a few outdoor tables available, but based on the amount of patron traffic we observed while visiting I wouldn't recommend planning on having a place to sit and eat. But it doesn't matter -- these burgers are so good that I would be okay with sitting on the curb to eat. They're steamed (not grilled) so the meat is an amazing combination of soft, juicy, flavorful perfection encased in a puffy kaiser bun. The cheese is chewy perfection, but it's not your typical cheeseburger cheese since it doesn't over melt from the steaming process. This burger needs no condiments, veggies, or other toppings -- like a great steak, it stands alone. Did I mention the fries? Also some of the best I've ever had! They approach potato wedge size (but not quite), and they're dusted in a coating before being cooked which makes them very crispy on the outsize with plenty of soft potato on the inside. They also have an assortment of local soft drinks in addition to the regular big-brand sodas. There's a plethora of other items on the menu for the non-burger crowd, but I don't think I could order anything else from here now that I've had my first "steamed ham" (as my fiancé refers to them). 100% delish!
