How Restaurants Become Key Stops on the Campaign Trail - Eater

"Ted and Wally’s, an ice cream shop in Omaha, Nebraska, hosted First Lady of Minnesota Gwen Walz and actress Connie Britton. The event emphasized Omaha's role as a liberal 'blue dot' in a predominantly red state, with discussions aimed at first-time voters. The shop created a special 'Blue Dot' ice cream for the event." - Jaya Saxena

Google
Some of the best ice cream you will taste! Great for an after downtown dinner dessert or even a special trip only for ice cream! This is a popular place, so expect to wait in line for 5 to 10 minutes...it is really worth the wait!

Patrick OReilly

Google
A unique ice cream craftsman producing a rotation of flavours in house on a daily basis. The staff are friendly and helpful. A cozy retro ambiance and you can watch them make ice cream the old fashioned way right in store.

Laney

Google
Great local ice cream shop. Fresh & delicious. Every time I visit they have new flavors which is fun. Parking can be difficult if you go on the weekend, only because it’s located in the Old Market downtown. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area!

Sanjay Subhedar

Google
This ice cream parlor has been around for decades and is very popular with the locals. Hand made ice cream served I cones or cups. New flavors every day. I tried the Ashtagandha Lemongrass , very crowded with long lines to get in

Ken Schultz

Google
Bring patience as lines can be long but the ice cream is worth it. Unique flavors that satisfy the sweet tooth and a great closer for the night. Finished here 2 nights in a row while we were in town.

MJ Schooley

Google
Some of the best hot caramel I’ve ever had. Great fudge too. Line was so long and moved slow as molasses. I’m still not sure if it was worth the 30 minute wait…But the service was pretty good once we got helped, besides being charged for an extra double scoop of ice cream. Ice cream (rice crispy, peachy keen, praline&cream, and vanilla) were all pretty bland. So glad I had the sauces to make mine taste like something! The building was adorable. Decorated retro and full of plants!

Sarah Wright

Google
The vanilla bean was fantastic! This old-fashioned ice cream is worth every calorie 😍 the service was fast, even when they had a line out the door-- if that doesn't tell you how good it is, I'm not sure what will. This is an old Market staple, especially on a hot summer day

Lauren Francke

Google
The long lines are an indication to stop here! It moves super fast and was worth the wait. They serve mountain freezer made ice cream that is absolutely delicious with great prices. Servers were very knowledgeable with helping me pick gluten free options (celiac). Would absolutely stop here again.

Yelp
I know we've all heard of cone flower's weird flavors but I think Ted and Wally have some interesting ones too! I went here with some friends and I was curious if one of their flavors: French corn bread. To my surprise it tastes just how I would love corn bread to be, it was creamy and not too sweet. It reminded me of the famous Dave's corn bread for those who have been. I had talked with one of the workers and they get this cornbread from a local bakery! Talk about supporting small businesses!! I really like the vintage-y feel of the location downtown. They have a decent amount of seating inside and out.

Yelp
So we were on the hunt for ice cream and this was the only place close by on a weekend night that was open. The full parking lot and decent line we thought was a good sign that this place would be good. Honestly I feel like the flavors were mid, and even the basic ones were too. I got a sugar cone with 1 scoop of ice cream, and while it was a decent sized scoop... it had freezer burn pieces of ice in it. Needless to say not impressed with this place, maybe they had an off night/day? But will probably not come back.

Yelp
we were traveling to Omaha and decided to stop for ice cream. the atmosphere was cute with a retro vibe but the service was extremely rushed and too distracted by how busy it was. The ice cream was okay but not worth waiting 20 minutes in line for in my opinion. i got Coffee mousse and asked for Reese's mixed in which they only put a couple pieces on top. My fiance got New York Vanilla and found a long strand of hair mixed in the ice cream better than my reeses were. definitely was not worth the stop

Yelp
This was a short walk from our dinner spot in old town. Grabbed two cups: mint Oreo milkshake and the Dutch chocolate. $13.51, both are expensive. The ice creams are pretty smooth in texture. The mint Oreo ice cream color doesn't look so appealing. Neither ice cream does a lot for me. It's not super creamy or rich in flavor, both seem flat to me. Both would be a tad bit better to add some chocolate bits or chips or something to break it up some. About the most underwhelming ice cream I have had since a very long time.

Yelp
Ice cream is good! Service is nice, and ambiance is alright with me! I always get a vanilla ice cream in a cone, with almond topping - my personal go-to!
google avatar

Leigh P.

Yelp
My boyfriend visited this spot before & was eager to share this ice cream experience with me. We were delighted to see the shop from our hotel window - so we walked in the rain to try it. Even a chilly, rainy night didn't prevent others from coming in - I was surprised at how busy it was. There was an interesting selection of flavors. (I wanted more options with chocolate - but that's my bias) I tried Make America Crunchy Again - an apple pie-inspired flavor. The taste was good but I wanted more chunks of stuff in it. My boyfriend lived his French Almond Custard. It's a popular spot with a fun vintage vibe. I see why folks like it.

Yelp
Wow cool setting from previous gas station. For me, a banana split of Honey Expresso Bean and Spiced Bourbon Walnut. B having a sugar cone of honey expresso bean. All excellent. I prefer a smooth and creamy texture. This is not. But still, very good.

Yelp
I'm visiting from AZ and after having a horrible lunch from a restaurant nearby, my girlfriend who grew up in Omaha wanted to redeem the Omaha food scene by suggesting we have some dessert here. She redeemed the day because the ice cream was the perfect cap to end our afternoon. Because the flavors are in constant rotation, you have to hope they have something that suits your taste buds. Having sampled a few flavors before we ordered, you know they use quality ingredients. For us the Maple Bourbon was money. I ended up getting a scoop of the Maple Bourbon, Heath Almond Cappuccino, and Vanilla Bean (I'm a sucker for vanilla bean). It was all great and would have no objections to coming back for an ice cream fix if I lived here.

Yelp
Ice cream itself is good. There are plenty of options and there was one vegan one as well that tasted great. Low review is for the service alone. The workers here are teenagers that are not interested in being nice. Many gave us rude looks or just stared awkwardly. They were very rude taking the orders and someone even pushed me aside trying to get into the kitchen. Random friends of the workers went behind the counters and like wandered around laughing. Everything was slow like we were inconveniencing them by being there even though the line was out the door. Lots of the workers hanging out behind the counter whispering to each other. Super unprofessional. The person who blended my milkshake shoved the spoon in there so hard it broke :) I had pieces of plastic spoon mixed into my drink :) whole thing had to go in the trash :) Needless to say I wouldn't be back. The ice cream itself tasted good but I only had a bit or two before I realized the spoon was completely broken and started fishing pieces out. Wouldn't be back.

Yelp
Great ice cream selection. Awesome location, cute decorations. I highly recommend, it won't disappoint. I got the brownie hot fudge with vanilla and chocolate ice cream. Five stars. I will be back
google avatar

Emmelynn G.

Yelp
It's hard for ice cream to taste bad so I wouldn't NOT recommend it if you're wanting a sweet treat. But there's nothing that really stands out. I asked for a small cup of chocolate and was given a very sad and smushed scoop with crumbs as a graham cracker topping. Kinda disappointing :/ there is usually a bit of a line and their flavors rotate daily. You can do a quick google search to see what flavors they are offering that day.

Yelp
This place can suck it.....walked ten minutes from the park to get here for this....(see pic) Time to back track and go to Coneflower!!
google avatar

Olyvia K.

Yelp
I really love all of their fun and unique flavors they have. Their waffle cones are also very good. The service is always pretty fast and although lots of times they have lines, you don't really have to wait that long in my experience. Love Ted and Wally's!
google avatar

Travis T.

Yelp
The ice cream was rich and creamy. Although it can get crowded, it wasn't crowded when I got there probably since I went on a Sunday afternoon. The outside looks like a vintage service station and the inside had a modern industrial feel into it.

Yelp
Stopping in for some homemade ice cream! Yikes! What happened to customer parking at Ted & Wallys? Ted & Wallys offers great ice cream and a typical visit to this restaurant is probably not more than 20 minutes to finish an ice cream. Customer parking has now been overtaken by employee parking and reserved spots for other businesses in the neighborhood which makes it a bit problematic to try to get into this particular business. We stopped in on Monday evening, and of the seven employee parking spots, three were taken and the balance of the four empty spots were blocked by cones. It's pretty clear from a conversation from the employees that there are no plans to address this access issue and honestly probably puts a little bit of a Kabash on coming back. Despite the good ice cream, service was spotty, wobbly tables and no parking access is a big problem. Probably will going to another business with better access, service and seating in the future.

Yelp
Delightful! We were staying across the street and this was the first place that caught my eye. Being an ice cream connoisseur I had to check out the very popular ice cream shop. We waited in line for approx 15 minutes - line was out the door. Time passed quickly as they have many antiques. Choosing a flavor was difficult as they have many eccentric flavors - I wanted the red velvet cheesecake, but they ran out right before I made it up to the counter. Went with the salty seahorse - salted caramel with Oreos! Great flavor combination!

Yelp
Great ice cream and long lines move fast. The inside of the restaurant seemed a bit beat up though and could use some sprucing up. The peanut butter ice cream was some of the best I ever had!
google avatar

Yelp
I read that Omaha is known for their corn ice cream. Ok- when in Rome do as the Romans right? WRONG. I read an article that stated Ted and Wally's do corn ice cream. I stood in line for an hour only to realize that the corn ice cream is seasonal (Which season? I don't know.) But it wasn't July! I pivoted because I did stand in line for an hour. I ordered cake batter which I was then alerted there might not be enough left for a small scoop! This ice cream was ok- regular ice cream. Why the line? It's in the market. I cannot tell you the jokes the guys made when I got back into the car after standing in line and not only did I not have corn ice cream but then the cake batter was a flop. Ted and Wally's totally entertained them.

Yelp
My daughter and I visited on Thursday night. We thought it might be less busy than the weekends--wrong! The line was just starting to go out the door when we got there. We waited anyway because we know that's pretty typical and the line moves quickly. Their seating area is not very big, but in warmer months people will often eat outside as well. They have a mix of tables and booths where you can sit. Ted & Wally's posts the day's flavors on a big chalkboard display, and they're known for making their own waffle cones in-house. The variety changes daily and even throughout the day---two flavors that were on their Facebook post earlier in the day had been switched to two new flavors by the time we got there, around 8:30 pm. Along with ice cream dishes and cones, they make sundaes, shakes, banana splits, and have toppings you can mix with your ice cream. My daughter got a single scoop of vanilla, and I got a single scoop of blueberry pomegranate sorbet. I say single scoop because that's the size we ordered, but I watched my server scoop my sorbet out of the container four times. It was more than enough for me--but they do offer larger sizes as well. This was our first visit back for the spring, but I am sure we will return many times over the spring and summer months.

Yelp
I visited Ted and Wally's on a weekend and it was quite crowded. The ice cream shop has fairly less seating space. It is lead by a team of youngsters who are doing a great job! They have plenty of options in ice creams to choose from including a few sorbets and vegan friendly ice creams. I tried their Date and walnut ice cream and vegan strawberry lemon ice cream, both were amazing! Date and walnut was creamy, not too sweet with prominent flavor of dates with occasional crunch from the walnuts. While strawberry lemon ice cream was evidently made from coconut cream, although one could taste the nuttiness from the coconut. For someone who does not fancy coconut in ice creams, I must admit it wasn't overpowering the other key flavor profile. The fruity strawberry and tart from the lemon formed a perfect flavor balance, and I recommend this flavor. Although on comparison, the vegan ice cream was a little grainy, perhaps its the coconut cream, while the regular ice cream was quite rich and smooth, nevertheless, bot were a flavor bomb! Ted and Wally's is a must visit for all ice cream enthusiast including the vegans!

Yelp
Yes there is a line, and yes it's worth the wait! I had a cone with a honey vanilla and it was fantastic.
google avatar

Aaron S.

Yelp
Great place for ice cream! They're in a nice location with other neat places adjacent to them. The inside has a neat atmosphere with friendly staff and great service. I decided to be adventurous and try their black seed and honey flavor. They were helpful in describing it and offering a different flavor if I didn't like it. I LOVED it! Omaha seems to have multiple good ice cream options but I'm glad this was our pick during our visit.
google avatar

Dillon G.

Yelp
Old-fashioned style ice cream spot that transports you back in time. There was a line out the door on the evening we visited. We waited for about 15 minutes before placing your order. The service was friendly and professional. The ice cream was delicious but overpriced in my opinion. The flavors were very fun and innovative.
google avatar

Kat S.

Yelp
The sign boasts 20% milk fat in their freshly churned ice cream... I would argue it is closer to 80%!!! A wonderful, nostalgic, and quality way to make ice cream. I saw the churn churning while waiting in line. It reminded me of my childhood days of adding ice and rock salt around the edges and having to patiently wait for the mixture to get thicker and the sound of the machine to become more labored. In looking at the board, it appears that they have 10 or so dairy based items in stock with a vegan, a vegetarian, and a sobet flavor available. I sampled the Twinkie flavor (yes, it tasted just like that Hostess treat I had in my lunch box in elementary school) but ultimately landed on the dulce de leche. It certainly is a must stop in the Old Market section of town.

Angela W.

Yelp
My daughter and I visited Omaha, NE for a day for the first time. One of our stops was Ted and Wally's Ultra-Premium Ice Cream. One of my favorite ice cream flavors is banana. Another of my favorite flavors is coconut. That day Ted and Wally's was offering vegan banana made with coconut milk. I was sold! It was one of the best banana ice creams I've ever had! And I'm 69 years old! The flavor and texture were sublime/amazing! No artificial colors or flavors. It was exquisite! My only regret was I didn't order two scoops!
google avatar

Yelp
What better way to end a Friday night evening in the Old Market, is a cap of Root Beer and Coconut Coffee ice cream. While the Root Beer taste is literally a float in mound form, it's SO good with a hint of childhood nostalgia. You know, the ones where it's blazing hot at 9pm still, and the only logical way to cool off is a hefty root beer float! Coconut Coffee... need I say more? With little flecks of coconut mixed with cold coffee, it brings me back to some excellent memories as well. Texture wasn't grainy - which I can appreciate - and if you know me y'all know I L O V E that ever famous candy bar, Mounds, and it was damn near close. I requested a taste of their Persian Prince - rose, saffron, and pistachio - which was INCREDIBLE. So glad they didn't overpower it with rose. It's early spring so the line wasn't wrapped around the corner which is always a bonus! Bathrooms stank as usual but it's downtown, so...

Yelp
Cute shop with lots of flavors. I came here 3 times during my time in Omaha. The first two times were great, but the last I ordered cookie dough in a waffle cone, and there were literally only two pieces. Not a big deal, but was just vanilla really.
google avatar

Yelp
Nothing stood up. Regular ice cream Chocolate ice cream was inedible Cinnamon was ok
google avatar

Carrie D.

Yelp
The balsamic black raspberry was sooooooo good. Paired with the chocolate... yummmm Wish I lived closer!!
google avatar

Yelp
Omaha has a new chichi ice cream store, but ted and Wallys has the best. It's a great location in the old market they let you taste the flavors it's always a fun experience! And did I mention they always hire great people to wait on you. Every time I go to Omaha, I come to check mollies Hands-down very best ice cream!, And great service. Plus it's a great and fun place.
google avatar

Jen R.

Yelp
Omaha staple! Love the changing menu! I got Pribble's Nibbles which was coffee ice cream with cashews and chocolate chips! Only gave them a four because there were like 3 employees messing around and one girl doing all the work on a busy day
google avatar

Bill L.

Yelp
Obviously a very popular place. We waited about 15 minutes. Unique ice at 20% butterfat. Very creamy and rich. Service once you get to the counter is quick and friendly.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
After a spicy supper we were all looking for something cold (& sweet!) while walking around the Old Market area of downtown Omaha. Delicious homemade ice cream! Seems like they have different flavors daily. It's a cute setup in an old filling station. The service was good. There was a line, someone ahead of us said there's usually a little bit of a line but it moved quickly. Great place!
google avatar

Jim L.

Yelp
If you're in Omaha's Old Market (especially in the summertime), you must get yourself to Ted & Wally's for their delicious, fresh-made ice cream. So many incredible flavors, you're guaranteed to find one or two that you'll remember for years. It's that kind of ice cream shop. Today, I had a two-scoop cup with Julian's Spotted Pony and the Chili Ginger Cinnamon! Julian's Spotted Pony is a malted vanilla ice cream with coconut flakes and chunks of chocolate. The chili ginger cinnamon...well, you can guess. It was so flavorful and incredible. When I decided to visit the Old Market, I knew I'd be visiting Ted & Wally's. The visit isn't complete until you have desert here.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Great ice cream!! The old market location is generally pretty busy; especially in the summer months, but they get you through the line and enjoying your ice cream in no time! I love the unique flavors they offer. I generally opt for a single scoop but they have multiple scoop choices, cones, shakes, and all kind of other yummy goods!
google avatar

Stacy B.

Yelp
Who doesn't love a good ice cream experience?! Here's your place in the old market Omaha!!
google avatar

Johanna S.

Yelp
We spent a night in Omaha and while walking through the Old Market we noticed this place was very busy so we decided to give it a try. We came quite late in the evening and the line was surprisingly long but moved fairly quick. Service was very friendly and the ice cream was really good. Ambiance was lively.
google avatar

Kourtney A.

Yelp
Ugh! I really wanna give this place a good review, especially because it's basically THE place to go get ice cream in Omaha. I didn't love the service. We have been having such a great experience so it was extremely obvious when the service was mediocre. The staff were just not interested. As for the ice cream, interesting model to have flavors of the day, I just wasn't a fan. I will say, it's super cute, has cute decor etc but be careful for the booths! The tables are pretty wonky.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
This is THE best Mint Oreo ice cream I have ever had! They churn it right there onsite. The staff were very sweet and attentive. We sat and watched as the next batch of chocolate, chocolate chip ice cream was being churned with added ice and salt. Really enjoyed this and will be going back again tomorrow!
google avatar

Tisha B.

Yelp
What's there to say about this place It's tried and true - the dark chocolate is my all time favorite
google avatar

Yelp
Ted and Wallys is a locally owned family ice cream shop in Omaha Nebraska. It's located in the Old market area which was close to our hotel. Being that it was a hot summer day, we decided on getting ice cream. There were several choices of the flavors of the day. I was excited to see the flavors of mango sorbet, and guava sherbet. When I asked if the guava sherbet actually contains guava, I was told that it did and would have authentic flavor. I ended up getting the guava sherbet and strawberry ice cream. My daughter got the strawberry ice cream and the Dutch chocolate, I can't remember what my husband opted for. Both my husband and daughter seem to be enjoying their ice cream very much as this is ultra premium ice cream. The strawberry ice cream was good, but the guava sherbet left much to be desired. It had a very watery consistency, and did not taste like guava at all. Being born and raised in Hawaii, I've grown up eating guava all the time so I know what it taste like and this tasted nothing like it. It was a pink color, but just tasted like sugar but had no actual guava flavor. Maybe I just picked the wrong flavor?? Anyway for a premium ice cream shop, it was just blah. If I'm back in town, I would consider giving them a try but would definitely stick to basic ice cream, and not order sherbet or sorbet.
google avatar

Toya C.

Yelp
Growing up in Omaha means a lot of my childhood memories were spent at Ted and Wally's. I remember when they were on Howard, next to Homers and Godfather's pizza. Their homemade ice cream is worth waiting in line (even in the winter) and some of their daily flavors makes me wonder, "how did they come up with that?" One of my favorite flavors that I haven't seen in years is lemon custard.
google avatar

Cat F.

Yelp
They have it all here and everything that I've had was delicious. Them being open late makes them even better. Ice Cream and all that it entails. The servers were very knowledgeable and helped make our night even better. When in town it is a must go-to spot.
google avatar

Nancy H.

Yelp
My absolute favorite and go to place for ice cream in Omaha! The ice cream is so creamy, made with 20% butterfat and is absolutely delicious! I love trying all of the fun rotating flavors! Highly recommend Ted and Wally's!
google avatar

Leilani G.

Yelp
If you're looking for some good ice cream then look no further than Ted & Wally's! I stopped in while on a quick work trip to Omaha and I am so thankful that I did! When I walked in it was quite busy which was my first hint that I was about to have some very delicious ice cream. I decided to get two scoops, dutch chocolate and cookies and cream. They are very generous with their scoops and I definitely could've gotten by with just one scoop but I'm thankful I got to try two different flavors. The texture of the ice cream was so creamy and thick, and most importantly the taste was delicious. The only thing I would've done differently is get a cone instead of a cup, because seeing everyone around me eating out of a delicious looking cone gave me FOMO. I also heard from a friend that their flavors are rotated on the regular so I wish I could come back and try some other more extravagant flavors. Overall super delicious and highly recommend to any ice cream lover!
google avatar

Christine A.

Yelp
Best locally sourced ice cream with old standards and creatively infused flavors. It never disappoints!

Kristy W.

Yelp
We tried this place while visiting, It tasted amazing. Will come back again the next time we visit. The bailey Irish cream was so good.
google avatar

Sarah E.

Yelp
The best vanilla bean ice cream I have ever tasted. The line was long, but the wait itself was short. I enjoyed the ice cream with a waffle cone and it was perfect. The waffle cone tasted fresh and like it was made in-house. The employees were nice and accommodating. Although the environment was busy, service was not lacking. Unfortunately I am not from here. Otherwise this would be my go to place for ice cream.
google avatar

Leah B.

Yelp
Can you say "holy ultra-premium 20% butterfat"?! I didn't even know that was a thing until now! Great little find right across from our hotel. From what I've been told, their ice cream is hand churned and, as fore-mentioned, 20% butterfat. They have some really unique flavors, and then of course, your staples like chocolate and vanilla. I got the cardamom, which I loved, and their Dutch chocolate. My grandma had the vanilla bean. My mom had the blueberry cinnamon granola and their Mexican vanilla (omg!). My mom and I also sampled their cucumber lemon mint sorbet and maple walnut, as well as sampling one another's picks. Every flavor we tasted was delicious, so rich and creamy! We didn't partake, but I see that they also have an old fashioned soda fountain! Locally owned, made from scratch, from primarily locally-sourced ingredients... my kind of place!
