They always take forever in the drive through. The people handling the food don’t wear gloves while handling the food and money at the same time, and they get mad if you tell them to wash their hands after scratching their head and fixing their hat. Also, the beer Ramen barely comes with any meat, don’t spend $10 on just noodles not worth it

Well I had to try this place out, since I always see people at the establishment when I drive by. Thought to myself it must be some amazing food. I like to give everyone an opportunity, as a food vendor I expect quality food everywhere I dine. As a cook or chef we always put our heart into everything we make. I had a deluxe and the taco was the only thing I enjoyed. The salsa is a great combination with all the food. The consome is actually really good as well. The mulita and tostada were made with stale tostadas. The establishment was filthy dirty outside as guests were leaving their trash on all the tables. All in all I wish this place the very best

We came when they first opened: long lines, bad service and so-so tacos. It’s been about 2 years and decided to go back. …WAY BETTER!! We took tacos to go. We purchased 9 tacos and the sampler, and 3 medium consumes (no meat). Very flavorful, the meat was moist and delicious. I arrived a few minutes before 9am, and they were setting up. So glad they have improved and that we decided to go back again. We will definitely return!!! Kind of wish they opened earlier as we usually eat Birria at 8am… but other than that, it’s worth it.

Always wanted to check this place out. Me and the wifey always pass by this spot when we are in Downey and decided to do so tonight. Birria tacos is what Teddy's doe's and you definitely will not be disappointed. My wife got their signature Red Tacos with birria and I got their #1 Deluxe plate plate which had 4 different styles. One was like a tostada only with their corn tortilla on top which was loaded with flavor and blew my taste buds away. (Tostada) Second one was like the folded ones only with cheese melted on the insides of the tortilla, lightly fried to give it just a touch of crispy crisp, also loaded with birria and flavor. (Beef Quesadilla) The third types on my plate were just like my wifey's, which was their signature street style tacos. third & fourth were their signature tacos (Taco & Mulita) Place was organized, clean, walk up window service which was professional. Of course their food was delicious and amazing. I'll definitely be back for more!

Teddy’s Red tacos at South Gate location is way better then this one the restaurant is smaller but they know how to serve you better and the food is way better so next time go to south gate location.

First time trying Teddy's and I wasn't expecting it to be good. To my surprise I was quite impressed. The consume was flavorful and the chile was hot just how I like it. The best item was the birria quesadilla. The flour tortilla was thick and the beef is juicy. Maybe the only item that was not up to par was the tostada, but it didn't even matter because the mulita was on point. I will be coming back.

Teddy's Red Tacos in Downey, finally got the chance to try these red tacos and they didn't disappoint 😋. I got the deluxe plate which comes with a taco, a quesadilla, a military and a tostada (i think it was a tostada) and a small cup of consome. OK IF YOU LIKE REALLY YOU NEED TO ORDER DOS, TWO(2). Those things are so tiny you going to need to order twice. Thats what I did. This plate goes for around $14 or $30 if you get two and a bottle of agua Fresca. I got the orchata which was pretty good not ridiculously sweet like others I have tried. This place was ok. I didn’t get my cilantro or onion that I asked on the side which bummed me out. If you order the birria tacos the meat is dry so I suggest getting the consomé with meat. The horchata I felt had too much sugar. The birria isn’t that flavorful how I imagined, but not the worst. I was also bummed that there was no thrive thru the reason y I had chose to go here instead of any other spot.

First off the service was excellent, I was there in the morning and they were not busy. I ordered to go and everything was well packaged and kept the food warm for my 30 min. ride home. I ordered the taco combo plates. I really liked the food as well. My only complaint would be that the tacos look bigger in the photos.

The food is super bland and beyond flavorless. Definitely not coming back! The ramen tasted like birria made from a seasoning packet!

You can improve your customer service. stopped by right around 10 AM to order tacos the female that was manning the drive-through has no customer service skills. She was not polite at all. Never a thank you. Never a good morning and when we drove up to the window to pay, no one absolutely no one came up to the window in a timely manner to greet us for payment, etc.. We sat there for over three minutes with absolutely no acknowledgment, even if the place is busy (which it was not at that time) the most basic customer service would have the employee go to the window and acknowledge the customer and say they would be right with them. None of that. My husband went previously and warned me of the terrible customer service, but I had gone once before, and there was a gentleman manning the drive-through and he was very polite. Unfortunately, I will not be going back. I'll drive all the way out to Hermosa Beach. There's a taco place there on PCH that makes Berria tacos that is absolutely delicious and the customer service is excellent. This place needs to understand that with the economy the way it is they better up their game if they want to keep customers and survive, this place obviously does not value the customer who is paying the bills; go somewhere else.

Had the tacos, the ramen, the soup, and the horchata and Jamaica drinks. My stomach wasn't a fan of the food and I don't recommend eating such greasy heavy food if you don't have easy bathroom access (you've been warned) The Jamaica drink(probably spelled it wrong) was okay. Tacos were eh, more crunchy than I'd like. Horchata wasn't flavorful. Overall kinda a let down since my friend was hyping up this spot so much but it was honestly whatever. We spent like $60 for 7 tacos, ramen, soup, drinks, and I've never been more disappointed by my cost to enjoyment ratio lol. It was edible to eat but probably won't come back

I have previously experienced this location giving me yellow, past due lemons at least twice before. But the salsa clearly being past due draws the line for me. GROSS!!

3rd time coming here and every time it gets worse lol. Told them please put everything on the side because they forgot last time and they did it again lmao The girl is always distracted and trying to rush even when there's no line because she has friends there and she's prioritizing them. Chose to put my trust in someone who gets paid to do a simple job and they couldn't even do that. Ridiculous lol.

I just witnessed a little scrawny guy pick up a Pepsi cup off the floor and put it back after he dropped it on the floor. After I confronted him about it at the drive-through window... He just said "OK thank you." I didn't do anything at all I hope they change their practices after management reads this. This is purely on a miss order Ii ordered regular tacos and quesabirria tacos ii got all tacos disappointed not the first time this happens the food is always good in flavor jjst wish ii got what ii ordered now going to have to sit there and physically check all food before leaving

Food was uneatable meat had no texture like Birria nor tasted like Birria unprofessional.

The food was phenomenal, just the right amount of spice and the birria was very tender and savory. I got the deluxe combo and it is very generous of a size. The soup tastes especially better during night time visits. Will come back for sure. The service was helpful and the ambiance was clean and spacious.

Time to say goodbye to styrofoam and hello to safer, stronger options. hot tacos came melted right into the foam plate! Included, no need to pay extra. The tray got so thin I could almost see through it--extra spice, or maybe a little bonus chemical kick? 6 start for the BPA styrofoam. Order was placed drive thru, can wait to go back again.

Has the tacos and ramen Tasty hit the spot. Ramen was delicious. Next time i want to try the quesotacos

I came to eat with my co- workers after a long day of work and I bit a taco and it chipped my right upper teeth (I thought there not supposed to be no bones on the tacos )and I told that fool that looks all fruity and did not give a fxxck thought I was playing I'm going to recommend you check your meat cuz I'm not a satisfied customer and I'm going to make sure yall hear me

So my kids and I decided to give Teddy's tacos. another shot. After the last bad experience! unfortunately, customer service was the worst, the food nothing what it used to be, and in top of that overpriced! So sad! Never again! Too bad I can't do zero star!

My original review of Teddy's Red Tacos for the Downey, CA, location got moved to the Whittier page. Who did that?! I hadn't been back to Teddy's since my brother was in town in September 2020. It was always so packed. Back then Teddy's was 4 stars according to my algorithm. It hasn't been as packed like before and now I know why... Was there on 6/17/22. Got my usual "Deluxe Plate" which is now $16.01 if you pay with plastic. Deluxe Plate: taco, mulita, beef quesadilla, 8oz consome, & two tortilla chips Pay with cash to avoid the 4% surcharge to your overall bill. It's in small, bold lettering on the menu. They used to remind folks of this when they ordered, but have since quit. The birria is still good, but not my favorite in town. This time, the tortillas were all soggy. I live less than a minute away. Parking sucks sometimes. Park in the alley if you have to. MORE TIPS - Unless you ask for beef in it for a nominal fee, your consome (broth) will be vegetarian + beef quesadillas can be requested "plain" (no onions or cilantro) for picky kids - the tortillas are small, street-style sized + outdoor seating + drive-thru RATING BREAKDOWN | Food: 3 | Service: 3 | Environment: 4 | Price: 2 |

Their agua frescas used to be so much better. They now taste like water. Food portions haha change as well. Food is good

Delicious! The consomé is chefs kiss! It was hot with a lot of flavor. The birria torta and deluxe plate is a must have!

Came to Teddy to see what all the hype is about . Well first and foremost the menu is rather small but to the point . You're here for the birria right so that all they offer nothing else . The tacos are on the small side but what they lack in size they make up in flavor . I had 4 tacos with cheese and. Medium consomé to go with the vampiro and a coke . The consomé was nice and hot and they give u tostadas to go with it which is a nice touch . The tacos taste was good and hot . While I can see why people like this spot it's okay not the best birria ever but decent and when you're hungry Thai would hit the spot just right . The service is okay the young ladies taking our order did smile and were kind of sharp . Other than that it's a good spot.

Teddy's has been one of the best birria spots around for years. I remember going to their location on the train tracks and they quickly popped off. Their Downey location is pretty small and does get crowded but it's worth the wait. The quesabirria tacos with a side of consomé are life changing. Definitely give it a try!

I recommend Teddy red taco place, the three (3) tacos beans and rice is delicious. This location is always open and clean to dine in.

love the food and order with uber eats all the time but the last two times BOTH my consome and horchata were missing. Drivers both state that only one bag was handed to them so not the drivers fault.

EVERY SINGLE TIME I go here they get my order wrong, EVERY SINGLE TIME. And I never have a complicated order either. Im extremely simple and order everything plain. And what do they do? Go add onions and cilantro and salsa after I specifically order everything plain because I have children 3 years old who doesn't eat salsa. Or if I order a quesadilla and they over charge me and make a Birria quesadilla. Then have the nerve to tell me. I Need to order a cheese only quesadilla. Well what the F is a quesadilla???? If I wanted a birria quesadilla I would order that. If I order a quesadilla it literally means cheese. So they want you to order a cheese cheese quesadilla WTF!!!!!! I hate it here! EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!! Never fails. You literally have 1 job to take an order and fill it. Why is this so hard??? And if you don't understand??? Why not ask to clarify???!

I ordered four of the birria tacos and shared them with friends for a quick little snack. All I could hear from them was Mmm Mmm good. The ingredients and flavor are just perfect and the service was fast.

Ok, not trying to start a fight in the reviews section, but honestly dont see why the hate? We have been coming here since COVID started(especially during covid) since they have drive through, super convenient. Ive never had my order wrong, or had food taste different. Always on point, always fresh. I remember this spot when they were out of a food truck down Slauson by the railroad tracks. Food is still Fire. Better than other birria spots. We tend to come here often as the wifey only like beef Birria.

Only a few could perfect the balance of flavorful tortillas, birria and combo plates and Teddys used to be at the top. I was a hue supporter and raved about this place to everyone. I don't know if Teddy lost interest, maybe doesn't own it anymore or other establishments simply surpassed the pinnacle of red tacos that Teddys once was. Service is sub par; they no longer greet, preparer and are attentive as they were. The Firestone location is run down. No pride in the location and it's simply a taco stand you can find at any corner now. Missing food on orders is a constant. The speaker at the drive thru is the quality of a microphone toy from the Dollar Tree. I hope they revive and re-emerge into the scene. For now, señor birria in north downey will be the spot.

Please check your orders before you leave, there has been two different occasions that they give me my order incomplete. I understand if they were big orders but there not.

Ok so I've been going since they opened but ever since they expanded their menu idk what they're doing back in the kitchen because I got the runs twice had my stomach bubbling all of it. First time I got 2 tacos & 1 mulita & I got sick. Waited about a month & gave them another chance 3 tacos later same thing I got sick from my stomach. I'm never going again!

Food is great but they need to update their number . I ordered some food on DoorDash but teddys changed it so you can't request no veggies. My brother is not an onion person and i mean most places allow you to take that off. So i assumed i can call the restaurant and make those changes. The site even says to call the restaurant to discuss order. I placed my order and called the restaurant the number is disconnected and the number that they have on DoorDash is for some other random person. We weren't able to cancel because they already began preparing. I had to order from another restaurant i am very disappointed. That is definitely a learning lesson. Please Update your Number

Got there at 10;52 pm before they close and drive tru speaker said it's closed . And it says they close at 11pm in that case change the closing time to10:52 smh drive 30 min got here in time before closing and it's closed it's not even 11 yet super disappointed. Other restaurants I have gone they close exact the time they have their closing times...

I had the best experience , great customer service her name was Diana she was really awesome honestly it was my first time she explained what's was best on the menu and I never been so happy. Food was great! I will be back again.

I ordered a quesadilla no meat plate for $9.99 and they charged me for a deluxe combo w/cheese for $16.95 and when I brought it to their attention I got $5 back. ‍

Located where El Taco was for decades. Now TeddyTacos...Drive thru for lunch. Taco plate. meat barely adequate. Tortillas small hard to chew. Also Cheese quesadilla...not so good. Small size tortilla. Hard to chew. Hardly any cheese. Garnish - four thin slices of old radishes dried out. My daughter didn't eat her lunch what a waste of money. So, Four small tacos and two small quesadillas...over $17. No side dishes available. They carry no beans, no rice, no salad. Just tacos n consume. No other dishes. Sad looking place. Sad looking menu. Watch when you pay as you could wind up okaying a high tip.

I ordered the deluxe plate and was disappointed. The meat they gave me in the tostada and taco was all fat. The broth was good but everything else was not. I also saw the guy prepping my food and then went and grabbed cash out of the register without removing his gloves. Will definitely not be returning. The cashier also over charged me. He said 16.01 over the intercom and once i checked my receipt it said 15.34 so i overpaid by almost 75 cents. Its not going to break my wallet but if they do this to every customer it begins to add up.

Food is ok not what it use to be when they started here in Downey, CA. Their horchata is my favorite and their consomé hs excellent flavor. But their service is why I can't rate them at a 5 star. Unfortunately, they lack attention with their orders online. Ordered my food without the hot sauce and received them with hot sauce. While it is not a big deal I love their sauce but I would rather add the amount myself . Understandable their busy but it's not an excuse for all they know the tacos could be for a child rather than an adult.

Here is my honest opinion, I'm not a hater nor am I jaded. Nada de eso. I just finished eating a combo plate which consists of a taco, a tostada, mulita and a quesa-taco which I didn't care for. La mera neta el consomé had a weird flavor, the broth was NOT thick and rich even after adding lemon y chile still sabia raro. El combo plate is cool pero le falta un chingo de sabor. I would not go there again, it didn't leave me a lasting impression.

I just visited this location today 02/05/2024 6pm I ordered the burrito it was fire definitely would order again nice and fat. I also ordered the meat rice and beans combo. I felt like they got stingy on the meat not worth it at all I paid 14$ not worth the price!!! stick with the burrito fire!!!! for the same price!!!!

Friendly service. Very hard to see. I drive past it twice. Very limited menu. Straight tacos birria. Consume. MulitaS. Vampiros. Aguas frescas. I got 4 tacos. Small consume. A horchata. And it was $23 bucks. Which is pretty expensive. But the tacos were good. The horchata was good. The salsa was good. The consume was good. I'd go back again. The meat was so tender and juicy. After dipping my taco in the consume, I had oily, fatty, sauce dripping down my chin. I loved the consume, with lots of meat. The salsa was very spicy, which I like. Everything was delicious.

Would not recommend coming to this teddys if you have a baby/toddler, food is good but unfortunately there high chairs are outdated and straps are broken so if you have a toddler I would not recommend dining in .

Oh my goodness !!! Everything on the menu has me smiling from ear to ear , so delicious!!! The only thing better than the food is the management and staff members. I want to thank everyone at teddy red tacos for making my day better every time I visit them . Thank you !!!

Food was good. But the girl at the register was rude AF her name is Diana . She was rude and even got my order wrong. An even when I repeat my order she still had 2 person in my party missing food.

I used to be a huge fan of this taco spot but they have became trash over there time on Firestone. Beyond upset I get tipping an all but not when I'm in drive through An all your doing is handing me my order and swiping my card. They charged me 44.39$ no where does it say tip. I check my account charged me 53.27 what gives you the right to tip yourself 20% through drive through?

Absolutely delicious! Try the deluxe platter for your first time, you won't be disappointed. If you need some extra convincing, Vice just uploaded a video on YouTube under their Munchies channel, search for "The Birria Taco King of LA". If Teddy's work ethic doesn't make you want to try his tacos, then you probably don't have a beating heart. Support good people, there isn't too many this day and age. Thank you for not giving up Teddy, your Birria is the best Birria I've ever had!

I love this place not many places make good birria, but this place does! My go to are vampiro, tacos, and the mulitas, top it with their salsa and it's on! I have never experienced any fat or rancid taste with my food, so I don't believe the bad reviews, sound like some of these peeps are just jaded. It's tough having your own business in this pandemic and it's easy to sit there and criticize people. Let's be more supportive of our Hispanic community, Customer service has always been great. I love Teddys!

The tacos are ok , only thing is that I order only 2 tacos to go at the drive thru but they took so long to give me the order, I was waiting and waiting . Also I had to eat the tacos with all this spicy sauce on it , girl didn't ask what I was going to have in the tacos , she just rush me to the next window

The consome with birria is bomb! It came with a hefty portion of meat to my surprise. The tacos also had a nice portion of meat, I liked that the taco shell was actually crispy although dipped in the consome. Only reason for the 3 stars is what the hell is a vampiro? I ordered one because the picture had chiles and etc and made it look spicy. But that taco was no different than my other tacos so not sure why that taco is almost $4 compared to the others that still tasted the same for $2 a piece.

ZERO STARS , no hate , just This location isn't like it used to be This place is disgusting now. I use to come here when it first opened up , there used to be a lot of line. I almost didn't come in today because I hate the wait. Surprisingly there wasn't a line today , now I know why. To start off the meat tasted old and bland The red salsa tasted rotten and so did the cheese. It shouldn't give a nasty smell like it did. I only ate one taco and threw the rest in the trash. They even made the consomé bad. No flavor like before , way too much seasoning. Whole plate Tasted like recalentado. It's like once a restaurant gets a nice buzz and customers the quality of the food slowly starts deteriorating. I hope the location on slauson still taste because the Downey location is never getting any of my money again lol

Delicious . One less star because the quesadilla tortilla was a weird texture. Maybe fried? Also consume was a tad bit too salty/ over seasoned and the cashier was a bit rude. Overall delicious food and will give it another try.
