The 17 Best Restaurants in Columbia, Home of the University of Missouri | Eater

"Located downtown on Broadway, Teller’s is a cozy, warm spot with tons of local art on the walls and a diverse menu that features sandwiches, wraps, entrees, and pastas. Poultry dishes, like the sesame chicken and Jamaican jerked chicken breast, are highlights. Be sure to wash any order down with one of the restaurant’s famous martinis." - Chloe Konrad

Outstanding. What a wonderful place. The food was delicious - Cajun pasta with a kick. Andouille sausage, shrimp and peppers. Tasty! I added blackened chicken to the entree. Plus for dessert fresh peaches, pecans and ice cream! So good!! The service was 5 star as Hannah was friendly and courteous. She was knowledgeable and explained various items on the menu. Robyn, the owner stopped by and explained the history of the place. She and her partner started the place years ago and has built a solid base of regular customers. By 5:30pm the place was packed with happy people. A fun atmosphere. The bar is loaded with many liquors. Plus several signature drinks that the patrons were enjoying and mocktails too. Highly recommend Tellers for great food and a good time.

Tellers is located downtown Columbia and is known for their fresh entrees as well as their awesome cocktails and mocktails. We would go to Tellers for happy hour all the time back when we were attending college! The salads are vibrant, fresh, and packed with flavors. The appetizers are ALL amazing as well. There are a few tables outside, if you are lucky enough to snag one on a beautiful day. Tellers is a wonderful spot to enjoy a beverage in downtown COMO!

Google
The sauces!! Yum!! Especially the red pepper one that comes with the crostini app, OMG, so good! Tara got me a side to go with what I didn't finish, and I enjoyed it just as much the second time around! I swear I'll try the sweet potato chips but this time I had crispy tots with my burger. I drank a Michelada, a bloody beer, which was very good because I don't like clam juice and they don't use any!! Servers are all friendly and attentive, and they get pretty busy, but I always find a seat at the bar!!

And they're back! After a very long closure due to a fire in the building last year this Columbia staple is finally open again. The decor is very similar to the old Teller's we all love however it's been upgraded during the remodel to give it a fresh new look. And is much brighter! The food was just as good as before. If you've missed this iconic food stop or you're looking for a trendy place to grab a delicious drink and meet with friends, this is your Columbia go to. So happy to have it back on the CoMo food scene.

Google
So happy Tellers is back. Service was fantastic and personable. Everyone was willing to chat and recommend stuff. Espresso martini was a great way to kick the day off. Started with some fried pickles. The buttermilk sauce that comes with them are out of control. One of the best buffalo chicken wraps in Missouri.

Google
This was my first visit to Tellers Gallery & Bar in Columbia, MO. It was fairly busy, but seemed well staffed so service was prompt and the staff was attentive. I had the Onion Rings and Poblano Peppers appetizer and the pan grilled Ribeye Steak. The Ribeye was the special for the evening, I don’t think it is on their regular menu. The food was excellent and whiskey pours were generous. I will definitely return when I am back in the area.

Google
Absolutely amazing as usual. I got Cajun pasta. It was incredible from the first to the last bite. Our server was amazing as well as other staff members who didn't hesitate to refill water or take empty plates away as we finished our food. The restaurant was packed which is a sure fire sign of great food, but the employees worked like a well oiled machine. I've been there multiple times now, and would recommend this restaurant to everyone from the pickiest eaters to those with eccentric pallets. A+ every time.

Yelp
Excellent food at this gastropub. It's a bit loud with noise from TV's and the bar, but the delicious fare makes up for any shortcomings. Service is attentive and prices are fair given the large portions and high quality. Recommended! We'll be back next time we are in town.

Yelp
Welp.. I got the Crispy Duck. It was DELICIOUS!! So good I cleaned my plate... just to find a Caucasian hair waiting for me like a Cracker Jack prize at the bottom. Told the waiter and he had nothing to offer the situation. Sooo.... I guess that's normal for them?? Killed my meal & my mood. The restaurant was pretty crowded & noisy, nothing special in the way of ambiance. In fact, we were sat at a dirty table that my date wiped down for us.. clearly it was a sign

Guaranteed great food, service, atmosphere, location, pricing, and experience...must try.

Yelp
Ambiance is stellar for a date. The lights are dim and cozy, the bar is beautiful, and the food is great. The team here were total pros and checked in the perfect amount.

Yelp
We came for lunch before Mizzou basketball game. Great food, nice atmosphere and location. Good, strong drinks and really good food. Service was a little slow but it was a busy gameday Saturday and our server had a lot of tables. I would return again when back in Columbia.

Yelp
I just stopped into Tellers over the weekend. I had never been before and we just wanted some apps and martinis. We had a phenomenal pear martini and lemon bar martini. The Brie appetizer was exceptional and we can't wait to come back!

Ellen N.

Yelp
We came in and happy to be added to the online wait list. I could track and actually see 4 groups be seated before our table for 2. We bought drinks at the bar. We finished the drinks. Not great. We left and went to Addisons-Downtown (fantastic).

Dora L.

Yelp
Love the ambiance and the food was amazing! Our server was great. You need to add this to your rotation of restaurants.

Yelp
I hate to say it, but this is not one of my favorite places. I've been 2 or 3 times now and I was pretty underwhelmed every time. Nothing about the experience was "bad" I just thought the food was average and there isn't really anything on their menu that makes me want to come back. The service is hit or miss too. They last time I went our server was very friendly, but just took a very long time to take our order and bring our checks out. I'm not sure if they were understaffed or not, that could've played a role. I would say the best thing on the menu is their French Onion Soup, if I were to ever go back it would be for this soup. Very good. Everything else, not amazing from my experience.

Yelp
Tellers is one of the best in CoMo! Right up there with Murry's. Great food, wonderful atmosphere, and fun cocktails.

Yelp
Outstanding service the mid afternoon we enjoyed a late lunch in this casual but elegant bar-restaurant. My wife had a great shrimp salad, described as a small salad on the menu, but large enough for two to share! I went for a simple turkey club - perfectly balanced, sitting atop a true "mound" of my favorites, waffle fries! Drinks were stealthy refilled during our repast - all reasonably priced. A winner in downtown Columbia!!
google avatar

Jackson D.

Yelp
Got the patchwork porkchop with the rosemary cream sauce and sweet marchers and it was really standout! Good portion and unique, savory flavor with everything working together! Got the brie pastry app and it was also pretty solid. The place was busy so the service was a tad on the slow side but the staff was moving around like crazy just be cautious if you're trying to get a quick dinner. Right downtown so convenient walk away from a lot of other places too which is nice. The ambiance was alright, it was very loud so at times it can be hard to have a conversation.

Toni F.

Yelp
Food wasn't very good A Ruben has sauerkraut & dressing 1/2 had very little rest didn't have sauerkraut.
google avatar

Shay D.

Yelp
I was not very impressed by the food options. I got the steak wrap with waffle fries and the flavor was not there for me. Although I must say, I enjoyed the drink selection: mango madness and the bread pudding deserved chefs kiss. I would probably go here for drinks and dessert only.
google avatar

Yelp
I didn't get any food personally, we were here on a Friday evening to have drinks with friends while we were in town. The few bites I did take (French fries specifically) were great. This review is more for the drinks. As someone who went to college in town, this place is awesome for us now that we're a little bit older. Better beer, better drinks. And being in a college town, they're very well priced! The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming, everyone feels like family. The best part was you weren't competing with all the college kids. Will definitely be a regular here when we come into town to visit!

Yelp
I've been here a couple times for drinks and dinner, and I've had mixed experiences. The service and food is hit or miss. But the quesadilla I got was so good! - Dr. Dilla quesadilla (4/5): delicious! Love the black beans and peppers mixed in. The texture and flavor are great - Andouille sausage and mushroom flatbread (3/5): more like a pizza than a flatbread. But this was just okay, a bit dry and needed more sauce or toppings - Bloody Mary (2.5/5): this was too salty, and just tasted like a premixed type of drink. The garnishes were good We need to try some other food items and hopefully can write a better review!

Yelp
Looks like a pretty poppin spot in Columbia, Missouri college town Mizzou! Go tigers. I ordered the bacon, blue burger, cooked, medium rare, although it was well done, and the bread was beyond stale, I was starving so, the burger was still OK. Nothing to really write home about though. My man got the quesadilla. The weight on this thing was impressive and he smashed it, so I am assuming that was pretty good on his part. I asked if they had sweet potato fries and they said yes, but I'm pretty sure all they heard was sweet potato, because what I got was sweet potato chips with this special dipping sauce, which wasn't too bad luckily.

Yelp
Darling spot for a late Saturday night dinner in a college town. Has a slight jazz bar vibe, not crowded like a typical bar on Broadway, & we lucked out with a cool picture window seat overlooking all the college town activity: pedestrians headed to/from bars & shows, various city lights, traffic cruising for metered parking.... Some music was playing loudly (piped in) when we were seated, but it seemed to have softened or we got used to it. Our service seemed a little slow & inattentive; soup needed salt & pepper but ended up eating without it bc couldn't get server's attention. Had a great pork chop but difficult to cut with a butter knife so I had to track down another server for a steak knife. Daughter overall enjoyed her jalapeño dill potato soup ("three of my favorite things!") & we will venture to make something like it at home. House wines very reasonable and just hit the spot for $6/glass. Great place for a visiting parent to enjoy nice dinner in a classy place with their college student; both enjoyed!

Yelp
Teller's is a classic COMO spot on broadway. We love to go here on Saturday for the $4 mimosa and Bloody Mary! The salads are fantastic and all of their dressings are made in house. We always get their burger (you can only get it before 4pm though) and a large salad to split. Large portions always! Go check out this place for lunch or dinner.
google avatar

Joseph M.

Yelp
I don't know how they do it, but Teller's is at a 100% satisfaction rate for me. Actually, it's beyond satisfactory. It's excellent. The black and blue burger with TOTS (How special is that?) is one of my favorites. Again today, they got the temperature of the burger just right and the tots were crunchy and not at all soggy. I love this place.
google avatar

Maria A.

Yelp
This was my second time at Teller's, my first time there I only went for their cocktails. This time around I went for both their food and cocktails. The mango madness was really refreshing and sweet. I had two glasses, my friend had the fruitika, but she preferred the mango madness when she tried it. The brie was different, first time having it. It was great when we ate the brie cheese plus the crackers and fruits at the same time. Eating the brie and the crackers only wasnt hitting like that. The calamari was well seasoned, it was crispy without the fishy smell. The Cajun pasta was alright, I have had Cajun pasta from New Orleans and this doesn't compare.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
The most consistent high quality food with the best hospitality in town!! Great atmosphere that features new local artists every month.
google avatar

Hanna A.

Yelp
Teller's was one of the first spots I tried in COMO and I have to say my first experience was subpar. I had one of their salads and it was dreadful! BUT! I've been several times after and Tellers has been fully redeemed in my book. Their curly fries are one of my favorite late night pick me ups. And their flatbreads are delish! Service is quick and attentive! They also have a fun happy hour deal if you can make it before 5!

Yelp
Great food, contemporary, calm ambience, good service. Mother daughter lunch at 11:30am. The Crostini appetizer is a must! Salmon BLT sandwich was cooked to perfection and French dip, tender and huge! Highly recommend. Coffee could have been fresher and refined without asked. Still deserves 5 stars‼‼‼

Yelp
It has been a minute since I've written a review and unfortunately, this experience has inspired me to write one. We are visiting COMO for work. Here for four days. Not a huge fan of traveling much less spending 4 days in a town in mid-MO that I don't live in... but while here, let's have the best experience, right? Food. Food is a huge thing for us... we like good experience, good food and a nice restaurant. Starting talking about where we were going to eat earlier today. I spent a solid hour on Yelp trying to find the perfect place.... not over priced, somewhere we can feel like we have a local / casual experience yet awesome food. So let's talk about the positive. First, we got in immediately. Second, great table in the center of the restaurant. Third, super fast service taking drink and food orders. We both mentioned to each other how glad we are that we chose Teller's! This was a good (but yet short) start of our experience. Drinks were good and served immediately. We ordered a salad to split, it came within minutes... could not have been happier.... until... .... we waited another 20 minutes for our food. We get it, the restaurant was busy. Typically, I wouldn't have been sore about that but tables sat before us were getting food before we received ours. Disappointing but survivable. Then, the food came. S.U.P.E.R. D.I.S.A.P.P.O.I.N.T.I.N.G. The worst. We ordered two wraps and two sides of fries... it came with two wraps and one side of fries. Person #1 (me), Chicken Caesar wrap with waffle fries ( I asked for curly, I received waffle because they were out of curly). Caesar Wrap - hard no. The chicken was so old / cold / dry, I couldn't chew it. The wrap itself was inedible. I pushed it around my plate and gave up. The fries were horrid. Cold, stale, hard, they literally cut my gums, I was bleeding when I left the restaurant. I was so concerned about the age of the chicken, I Googled the local health department to notify them of bad food being served. My meal with 101% awful. Person #2 (partner) Pork wrap with sweet potato fries. Pork wrap was fine. Nothing to write home about. Wasn't great, wasn't bad, it was at least edible (the only thing on the table that was edible). Sweet potato fries.... well wait a minute... we can't comment on those... they never made it to the table. So, let's talk about the service... because after your meal arrives, typically someone checks to see if you are satisfied and if your meal is good? NO. NO NO NO. Never happened. 3/4 of the way through our horrid meal, I mention to my dinner partner that no one has checked on us... he brushed it off and said there is no way we're being ignored... so we started counting the times the waitress walked by our table without checking on us.... we got to 9 times. NINE TIMES our waitress was within 12" of us and never once asked us 'how we are doing', 'how is the food', 'do you need anything else'..... NINE. TIMES. 47 minutes. 9 pass bys. Horrid inedible food. A $40 bill. No apology for the horrid service and crap food. Nothing. No resolution. Simply, 'here's your bill'. Full price for all of it. I'm not the guy that doesn't tip 30+% typically, but for the first time in years, that didn't happen tonight. NO. APOLOGY. They couldn't have cared less. An hour on Yelp to land on a review like this is... well... sad. If you have any other option in Columbia.... choose the other option. Teller's is NOT the place to check out while in Columbia.

Yelp
Pretty mundane dining experience. Pricing is slightly on the higher end for basic casual food. Ordered the $18 grilled portobello mushrooms and it was okay. Kinda odd how everything was deconstructed and not a cohesive dish. Came with sides of goat cheese, polenta, salad, and dusted zucchini. Waiter was pretty short and took forever to take the order.
google avatar

Shanna S.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday with a group of 10. We had reservations so they were ready for us. Our server was great. Super attentive and kind. I had a sandwich, it was ok. It was on sourdough bread and it way way too crunchy. I had to eat the filling without the bread. The sweet potato chips, delicious! Love those. I also had the bread pudding. Wow it was a huge serving and super delicious. The menu had quite the variety of food and drinks. You won't go wrong here.
google avatar

Debbie F.

Yelp
This was my second visit to Columbia and to Teller's for lunch. It is a great atmosphere and very welcoming environment. There is something on the menu for any tastes. I especially love the beautiful spinach salad. The onion soup would be a no-good next time, but simply because I am a fan of a more thin brothy type onion soup, not due to taste. Lauren has been my server both times and she is personable, attentive, and profession and is a great Ambassador for Columbia. I will definitely return.
google avatar

Ayman G.

Yelp
Stop with the pork! I am so over this place. Nothing for Halala/Crohn's diet. I lived here for two years, and I don't understand the love for this place.
google avatar

Devan C.

Yelp
I've heard great things, but wasn't blow away at my visit. The service was slow and the menu is a little on the different side. I don't have a lot to say because I wasn't blow away. I would consider a second chance but kind of unlikely. There were several of us there, and we ordered quite the spread. I ordered a chicken pesto pizza that I'm 97% certain didn't have chicken on it when I arrived. The curly fries were nothing special, or even at all different from what was served at my high school. I did enjoy the soup of the day, it was a broccoli au gratin.
google avatar

Asenath N.

Yelp
Came here for drinks after the dinner. We did not eat here so this rating is just for the drinks and ambiance. The drink menu had many great options and the pricing was good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food menu looks good, we plan to come back for dinner.

Yelp
Teller's is one of my favorite spots in Columbia and always offers a reliable, decent American meal for a reasonable price. The restaurant has a fantastic ambiance; the dim lighting, string lights, table decor, and lovely furniture create a relaxing vibe perfect for a fun dinner with friends or family or a relatively affordable date. The service is decent, but expect a packed house and long wait in the afternoons and evenings. I usually opt for their Black Bean Veggie and Rice Wrap, Black Bean Quesadilla, or Spicy Veggie Quesadilla, which are all phenomenal. The friend that I frequent this restaurant with is a huge fan of the Buffalo Chicken Wrap, which is consistently pretty decent (we did have one bad experience once in the winter of 2018, but every other visit to Teller's has been perfect).
google avatar

Margot W.

Yelp
Blackened salmon with seasonal veggies & presto rice. 6/10. Not very flavorful. Started with the tomato funnel soup which was delicious!
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
Horrible food and lacking in service as well. Rueben was literally two slices of dried and leathery corned beef on a dry and hard marble rye with a smear of sauerkraut. The Brie en croute was pale, cooked, but with no color, anemic. The French onion soup was a disaster. It was sweet and thick like a gravy. Don't know what kind of cheese was on it but clearly it was not melted in the oven to even give it color. In fact I saw it sitting on the shelf for, no lie, 15 minutes before the server brought it to me. The Cajun pasta with supposed crawfish was light on the crawfish and andouille which begs the question, " what exactly are they charging $17 for?" All in all I think this serves the drinking crowd and the non distinguishing pallet. Overcooked pasta and lacking in flavor, I would not waste my time eating here as I did. Hard pass, people!
google avatar

Mai C.

Yelp
Great bar. Above average food. I prefer their appetizers and sides more than the entrees. Their food is very consistent on quality which is a plus. Laid back atmosphere. Quick and efficient service. Great bars for larger groups. This is out fallback when we can't decide where to go.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
This was an excellent experience, we were helped by Tara who did an amazing job while we were dining here. Always right on time for refills and then on top of great service the food was amazing, I got the chicken slider special which had amazingly tender chicken and the sauce on it complimented that. My friend had your pulled pork quesadilla which was really good, sauce on chicken is superb and it contains pineapple which is just the acid to cut through the sweetness of the sauce, mixes very well! Got two desserts to split, the chocolate mousse which is very thick and absolutely decadent and then the bread pudding which was warm and inviting. All together this is probably one of the best experiences I have had in town. Will be back soon!
google avatar

Jeffrey E.

Yelp
One of the best places for brunch, lunch, and dinner on broadway! If you haven't had their black bean pulled pork quesadilla, then you're missing out! This place is for sure to leave you satisfied, with nice staff and leftovers to take home! Call or dine in, your meal is waiting for ya!
google avatar

Taner E.

Yelp
Non-pretentious good food. One of our favorites in Columbia, and we don't even drink.

Yelp
I love Teller's! When I lived in Columbia, I'd come here decently often with girlfriends for a classy drink and appetizers. Great dinner menu, awesome bread pudding with yummy maple bourbon sauce. Not exaggerating at all when I say this, but best bread pudding I've ever had still to this day. I was in town this weekend for an art show and got to experience their brunch for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the blueberry pancakes with a side of scrambled eggs and bacon. My fiancé got The breakfast burrito which had scrambled eggs, bacon, tater tot's, pepper jack cheese, scallions, and normally black beans but he didn't get those. The wrap looked amazing and he thought it was fantastic! I also enjoyed a Mimosa this morning and it was very well-made. Great ratio of champagne to orange juice, heavier on the champagne. ;) We came at a great time today too because even though it was mom's weekend at Mizzou we were able to get right in which was awesome! I just always have great service here! Awesome waiters and waitresses, great menu! They have amazing martinis as well. Try the cucumber Martini, it's very refreshing!
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
We love teller's!! Such good martini deals, amazing french onion soup, and I love their chicken wings. 10/10 recommend. Good date spot or place to bring a boyfriend.
google avatar

Julie N.

Yelp
We came to the restaurant after 9p for some food after Roots N Blues looking forward something other than a burger or a taco. We realized it was late but the server didn't mention anything about it. We ordered some calamari, a rueben, a flat bread and some French onion soups. Frankly they should have been embarrassed to bring out the plate of calamari. It was cooked to a crisp and inedible! Sweet potato chips came with my sandwich and they were terrible as well. The flat bread that came was a kid size one. The only redeeming part of this meal was the French onion soup. I asked for a tea and they didn't even acknowledged the request. Overall it was not a good meal at all. If they didn't want to serve a meal they should have just said so.
google avatar

Big W.

Yelp
I liked this place. The service was excellent, and the food was great. I got the calamari for an app. The only disappointment was my colleagues kept eating them too. I clearly said calamari, solo. Whatever, sharing is caring. I got the bacon wrapped filet for the main course. It was amazing. I ate every bite. I will most certainly go back. Highly recommend this place, it can get busy so timing is important if you don't like to wait, like myself.

Rachel B.

Yelp
Food and drinks were good. Service was atrocious. Took us over an hour to get our food. Tables were seated after us and got checked out before we even got our cold food. Lots of profanities exchanged between wait staff and bartenders. Only giving another star for the nice toilet paper.
google avatar

Jean R.

Yelp
First time visiting Columbia, MO. We stopped in for drinks and enjoyed the Monday martinis. The local beers were scrumptious per hubs. Shiphead Ginger was his favorite. Jacob was the hostess and also our server. He was awesome!! The spinach salad was delicious and Jacob recommended the creole salad with blackened chicken. What an incredible combo! Jacob should get a raise and be promoted to manager! No, we are not related. He was such a nice young man and a pleasure to speak with.
google avatar

Nick T.

Yelp
The food was excellent with very generous portions. Even though not crowded and 0100 pm the service was a little slower than I expected. Definitely worth a return trip.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Enjoyed Teller's at lunch today. Great salads, friendly staff, reasonable prices in a comfortable laid-back bar setting. Although service was a little slow, even though our visit preceded the noontime rush, I'm still going to rate as, Highly recommended! The rest of the menu, sandwiches, pizza, appetizers deserves to be checked out as well.
google avatar

Brianna B.

Yelp
The food was alright, nothing impressive. The restaurant itself was pretty dirty looking, especially the ceiling fans. It's also discomforting to watch the cooks in the kitchen without hair nets for their heads or facial hair. They gave generous wine pour, which was awesome!

Karlee S.

Yelp
In my opinion, best drinks in COMO and most definitely best bartenders in COMO! Geoff is AMAZING and can make any drink to perfection. This place is always a good time. I've only gotten food to go and it has always been amazing but I can't wait to eat here soon.
