"When a museum bears the Smithsonian name, you know it’s a worthy stop. When it’s housed in a former hospital from 1896 that’s now a National Historic Landmark, like this one, it’s an absolute must.Telluridelocals return to the Historical Museum again and again to see absorbing permanent exhibitions, which include an Anasazi blanket woven between 1041 and 1271 C.E. and a hands-on gold mining sluice."

A great place to learn about the history of Telluride. Great displays and very old items from the 1800's and before. Listening stations and videos keep you interested. The lady at the desk was very friendly and knowledgeable. The museum is small but will take at least and hour to complete the visit.

As far as small town historical museums go, it was impressive. A large portion dealt with the ski history of Telluride, a little about the building itself, and a little about the mining history of the town. The historic house seems mostly intact, as far as structure goes. The displays are tasteful and interesting, predominately information boards on the walls, with a bit of extras here and there. The downstairs starts with the native-American beginnings, then the early days of town with mock-up store fronts and a room sized model of an old mine town house. There is an impressive imitation mine tunnel behind the building with various mining implements that can be operated a bit. Ticket costs were reasonable and desire what the website says, masks are not required, or ever mentioned. Good place to learn about the area. Nice break from busy town as well. There

Not much here but curios are mile high in price. Nearby is the buskers stage. sign the form and wait your tune sometimes there isn't anybody around and I played all my songs and made a bundle. This whole place is history and this museum is authentic. Check your pistols with the bartender. lol

Great your of the old parts of town - well worth the $15. Ashley was a super tour guide. Museum is worth the visit as it is also one of the oldest buildings in Telluride.

Wonderful display of a town with such a rich and unique history. The admission price was just $5 each, and well worth it. I learned so much about the history of Telluride that made me further appreciate the time I spent there. Gold mining, labor feuds, prostitution, innovative trains, and early electricity are just a few of the interesting historical topics shared at this incredible museum. Must visit.

A lovely experience for the whole family. Staff is dedicated and knowledgeable. Am adorable little gift shop at the end too. Don’t forget to he’s out back to see the old miners equipment. Probably not the best for the littles, but better for the 5 and up range I would say.

During a day trip to Telluride we visited the historical museum to do the walking tour. They had a deal where the tour included a museum pass. The walking tour was informative and fun. They even took us inside the original location where the film festival is held. The museum is definitely worth the time to find what made this area historical as well as beautiful. Person working there was knowledgeable and couldn't have been more helpful.

Best museum in Colorado. Knowledgeable staff, great exhibits, and family friendly. Good mix of local history including Native American, mining, and commerce.

Yelp
I'm glad my friends who visit Telluride each year recommended I stop in this museum. It was the initial hospital during the mining days, which was later converted into a museum. It had so many interesting displays and pieces of history, from the Native American Indians times, through the boom-and-bust mining days, to the present-day ski resort revitalization of this charming town. The exhibits are strategically placed to allow you to experience how the area evolved. It is easy to walk around, taking your time examining specific items that are of interest to you. The small gift shop is charming and has a number of books and periodicals of the town's history that may be difficult to find elsewhere. For a nominal entrance fee, you can easily spend an enjoyable hour or two learning the history of this great town. There is also a museum donation canister at the entrance way, which I gladly deposited additional money in as I finished my tour as it was definitely worth it!

Yelp
This is a must see/do item if you are visiting Telluride. Adult entry is $7, and it is money well spent. This historic spot is chock full of Telluride history. From the early Native American days, through the mining era, and on to the white gold (ski resort) generations. Make sure you visit the upstairs area that shows a very cool video interviewing the towns founding ski resort folks. So much cool history! Also, don't miss the blanket and it's amazing story of how it came to be. You won't believe it until you actually read about and see it. Karen who checked us in was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. So nice. We will be back!!

Yelp
Visited March 2, 2019. Wanted to check this place out and so had 30 minutes before closing time. Really appreciated that the attendant stayed open longer than the normal operating hours. One should probably plan to spend about 1.5-2 hours in there. They had a temporary exhibit upstairs about skiing a few of the areas were interactive. They are closed Sundays and Mondays.

Yelp
Such a cool place! You can spend a couple of hours here! Native American history, snow sport history, and a great video presentation of how Telluride turned from a mining town to a ski town!

Yelp
I love little regional history museums and this one was no exception. They have a bunch of little exhibit rooms, one of which contains a incredibly old blanket. I loved that they talked about the mining but focused on other things as well because once you've visited all the little museums in south western Colorado you know more about mining in the area than you thought you could and there isn't much left to say. It's also only $5 and very easy to walk to, awesome.

Yelp
Wow! A gem in San Miguel regional history's crown! Find out about mining, Tel-ski resort development, Ute inhabitants, and Telluride town development. Walk through a restored building to see the artifacts, browse it's shop for well written books and gifts, or attend any of its many special events from Native American concerts to Town fireside chats about mining, and most recently in June 2009: a live re-enactment of the Butch Cassidy bank robbery - guns ablazing and a horse back getaway - right in the middle of town.

Yelp
The building itself is a great piece of Telluride's history-- the former hospital! Even though Telluride is a small town, the historical museum has been done extremely well and kept up. If you're in town on a Thursday afternoon, I would HIGHLY suggest taking the guided walking tour that is offered. The guide is a local with a lot of great information and stories to share with you on the way.
