The Hottest New Restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul Right Now, January 2025

"Tender Lovin’ Chix, a new restaurant by TLC food truck owner Marques Johnson and Billy Tserenbat (of Billy Sushi), has opened on Lyndale Avenue. Menu-wise, expect to find the same chicken tenders and Tokyo fried rice that made TLC a downtown food truck favorite, but Johnson and Tserenbat have added dishes like basil chicken, chicken bulgogi, curry chicken, and chicken wings, to name a few. (Johnson calls it the “billion dollar chicken story.”) There’s a full bar pouring sake, plus TVs, pull tabs, and a generally relaxed vibe. Keep an eye out for karaoke rolling out in the future." - Eater Staff

The Best Fried Chicken in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"True, chicken tenders aren’t “fried chicken” in the traditional sense — but Tender Lovin’ Chix’s super-crispy, super-juicy tenders earn an honorary spot on this map. The power move here is the Rush Hour Four: Two hefty breaded tenders served with soul-satisfying fried rice and creamy, tangy “yum sauce” on the side." - Joy Summers

Here Are the Twin Cities’ Most Anticipated Summer Restaurant Openings | Eater Twin Cities

"I'm intrigued by Tender Lovin’ Chix, the brick-and-mortar from TLC food truck owner Marques Johnson and Billy Tserenbat that will occupy the former Fire & Nice Alehouse on Lyndale. Johnson calls it the “billion dollar chicken story”: I'll find the same chicken tenders and Tokyo fried rice that made the truck popular, plus new dishes like basil chicken, chicken bulgogi, curry chicken, and wings. I expect a full bar serving sake, an “upscale dive bar” relaxed vibe with pull tabs and TVs for game nights, and possibly karaoke down the line; it's slated to open in early July." - Justine Jones

Sadly a big disappointment. First, the restaurant interior smelled like pee, we were ordering to go. 17$ (before tax) For just a hot honey chicken sandwhich and fries that looked like this in the photo? The sandwhich bun was burnt on the top and rim, and there was no pickles on mine. Chicken with sauces was very inconsistent, the "hot" honey flavor wasn't that sweet but not hot at all, and didn't mix great with the dill sauce (this sauce was really good). Chicken breading & sauciness was inconsisent as shown in the photo, so overall there was some good bites and not so good. Fries were gross and oddly tough outside doughy inside, reminded me of highschool cafeteria fries. My boyfriend got the wings, good size but barley crispy and the buffalo sauce was bland, 14$ for six pieces & no side or drink?? Worst fried chicken place i've had in the Twin Cities so far. For the price and non-fast food vibe of this place was expecting much better, but I would rather go to popeyes regardless of price.

Went here for brunch. The chicken and waffles were amazing. Waffles had a nice crisp to them like a funnel cake. The brunch potatoes were nice and crispy and flavorful. Tried tje jalapeño burger and fries prior and it was nothing short of amazing. The atmosphere was live for the crowd. Will definitely be back for more.

Google
My girls and I love it here and the owner is amazing. It’s a versatile vibe I enjoy on girls night for drinks and fun family dinners. 10000/10 recommend for everyone to try at least once. The Sammie and rush hour 4 are our favorites!

Google
The burger and chicken were exactly what we expected based on the reviews... Amazing. Until.... We realized that their "special" ingredient was human hair :( Once I sat aside the full head of hair hidden within my wife's dish. It was picked up by the waiter as if nothing was a miss. If you enjoy hair filled food with no response, this is the place for you!

Google
We visted sunday 9/21. So when i think brunch i think women. That was not the case here. Lots of hard bodies lol. The vibe was cool though. My waitress/bartender saved this review actually. I ordered chicken and waffles at first. Waffles were hard and cold. I asked for butter and was given already melted butter. We scrapped that order and i had the sammie. 10/10. Full flavor and the potatoes were actually seasoned. I had a mocktail that was really delish and we spent on avg about $30/pp.

Google
The Food is Amazing, The Chicken is so Juicy and Moist. I have never tasted better chicken and super nice Crunch Factor. The Rice is nice and clean super good. Not Oily at all. A must try , You will not be Disappointed. Thanks for coming to Methodist Hospital.

Google
Tender Lovin is a spiritual experience disguised as a chicken spot. The talent is unmatched, the chicken is unbelievable, and I am convinced they season everything with pure confidence and a little bit of black magic. The moment you walk in, you just know you are not leaving the same person. I recommend their Signature meal. I will not even say the name of it because if you are ready, you will figure it out the same way everyone else does. It is part initiation and part life upgrade. Leos especially understand. This place somehow attracts the entire city. People pull up from every corner to watch football, sports, boxing, and whatever else is on because the energy stays live. The strippers are everywhere, the talent is amazing, and they are all beautiful. It feels like the Avengers of chicken and entertainment teamed up. Final score Ten out of ten. Would return immediately.

Google
Tender Lovin’ Chix is so good. The chicken is crispy and full of flavor, and the tenders are definitely a must. Portions are solid and the staff is friendly. This has become one of my go-to spots when I’m craving fried chicken. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s a must.

Yelp
This place is way better than you think. Black owned business in uptown. The food, service, and drinks are all high quality and very good! Go check them out soon

Yelp
Hey Travoodies Hey ... I tried it! I have been hearing about this place for some time, and recently I ventured to check them out. I honestly can say that the fried rice was yum. Like covered with some yum sauce (that's homemade), and cooked perfectly. Nothing against this spot because I absolutely loved the vibe and the bartender was super friendly and made a delightful drink. The red aura of the space ; red being my favorite color easily attracted me to the space and the excitement from the staff made me interested in sharing from the menu. For Me... I think I'm just not a panko crusted type of girlie. However I would go back and order the fried rice. The drink was a hit with me I forgot the name but it was on their Christmas list. I can definitely see going back for drinks and the catch the games.

Yelp
They did their thing with this one. The wings were awesome, the chicken sandwich was too! And the f'n Beef Bulgogi Bowl, SMACKS!!! Game day specials on beer $20 for a 5 beer bucket. And $4 shots! You're missing out if you don't check it out !! Bartender was super attentive and they were playing the game WITH the sound. There's not a better spot in uptown for a casual night out.

Yelp
When we visited for the first time Tricks made a good first impression, we visited Sunday night so it wasn't busy. The chicken potstickers were good, and so were the onion rings. I really enjoyed the Lyndale mule. However I did not like the birria tacos, maybe I'll try the rush hour next time. The seating was a bit uncomfortable for me personally and the TV was loud and it was hard to have a conversation. Parking lot available behind the building, there is also free street and paid parking as well.

Yelp
Everything tasted under seasoned, but most of chicken was cooked well. I did enjoy the breading. Sauces were underwhelming. Nice open space. Slow service even though it was empty.

Yelp
One visit review Back and forth tween three and four Price gouging, so three Been anxiously waiting for this place to open. Took over the space of my favorite local beer bar. The beer selection pales in comparison, obvi. Four basic beers on tap pales in comparison to their predecessor. The food was really good. Got the Rush Hour 4 which is described on the menu as Tendies, TLC yum sauce, Tokyo fried rice. Tendies were great! Nice, light, crisp breading. Felt like I got up charged though. Before I ordered, saw what a guy next to me got as that is what I wanted. Asked if it was the chicken fried rice. She said no, it was the Rush Hour 4. Looked at the menu. $17. Done deal, give me what he's having. Bill came. Add on charge of $6 for chicken fried rice. Maybe a failure to communicate on both of our parts, but an extra $6 for chicken in your fried rice?! It is only two dollars extra for chicken in your Tokyo fried rice on the menu. I should have protested more than I did before I rolled over on the deal. Shady, shady as all hell. My return is possible, but somewhat iffy.

Yelp
We finally had time to check this new restaurant out in south Minneapolis. We came during the weekdays knowing that street parking would be hard to find. Luckily we found a spot down the street. Mix fusion between asian and American. My friend has been craving onion rings and had to order it. I ordered the salt and pepper wings, the jalapeños were there as dressing, however it wasn't spicy. There was 1 server that worked the bar and tables. I was impressed how attentive she was to every table until someone in the back came out to help her. Big dining area with mostly high tops. I had wished the chairs had a backrest to lean on, but the lower tables had some. My friend likes the fusion, I'm more on the authentic side.

Yelp
Teething problems?? Ordered the wings, which I was told were the full wings but when they came they were winglets and drumlets and they were cold. They took them back and game me hot wings. For the main meal my son and wife ordered the rush hr 4. Which was the highlight. The chicken tenders were crisp and there were 2 large tenders. The Tokyo rice and yum sauce is like the one you get at bennehana. All in all a good dish. I ordered the basil chicken. The proportion of chicken to rice was off and I had more than half my rice remaining. Also it was supposed to come with Asian slaw which they forgot to put on. They did give me some on the side when I reminded them. I think some teething problems which should get better with time.

Yelp
Staff super friendly and attentive! Had the rush hour and wings. Both were really good. The chicken tenders were some of the best i have had. Very light and tender and sauce not needed. Good neighborhood vibe. Supporting local teams with great food and drinks. Seems like they really care which you don't always find. Need a signature dessert

Yelp
I remember one day I saw this red food truck that was driving around north loop. I had the best lunch I've probably had, not just from a food truck, but probably ever. When I heard he was opening up a restaurant, I knew I had to check it out. Somehow... It got even better. The founder/owner crushed it. By the end of dinner we were ordering extra food just to take for leftovers. Vibe, service, quality... Dude didn't miss. Safe to say I'll be coming back.

Yelp
This is an excellent chicken tenders place. The chicken is terrific. Also had some birria tacos tonight, very solid. Had a few beers and the staff is so friendly and the owner is circulating and having fun and keeping an eye on stuff, they are next level for service and doing what they do-- the chicken. (Onion rings also pretty darn good.) Try it for the first time and the staff and owner are going to make you feel like you've been a regular for a while.

Yelp
Tried this food truck on a whim during aquatennial because they didn't have as much of a line and they were delicious! The chicken was so perfectly cooked and fried! The fried rice has a TON of butter so beware, but obviously very delicious. I can't wait to be on the lookout for this truck again

Yelp
This is THE plade to be! Food was solid, atmosphere is great and love being able to watch the games here. The owner, Marques , is giving his heart and soul of this and you can tell he truly cares about everyone's experience.

Ashley K.

Yelp
Delicious. The breading on the chicken is light and crispy, not greasy at all and has great flavor. Yum yum sauce and Tokyo fried rice are also very tasty. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
My favorite food truck in Minneapolis! I follow their Instagram to find their location. Very eager for them to open their first restaurant. Yum!

Cluck Z.

Yelp
I had spoken with their Instagram rep 3 months prior to a work party asking them to attend. They had told me "They would love to", and I gave them every detail, including my phone number, asking them to let me know if I needed to do anything else. They then tell me the day before the event that they are short staffed and cannot attend the event. Abysmal customer service, blamed me for their lack of communication. Would not recommend.

Everett H.

Yelp
10/10 recommended! Best tenders in mn. The rice and salad compliment the tenders! And did I mention the SAUCE
