Yelp
I really wanted to like Tenjou and was rooting for their grand opening to start off strong, thus I made reservations as their menu truly captivated me however the experience fell quite short of my expectations.
We ordered the below-
Omurice: Onion, Chicken, Mushroom, Green Bean with Chicken
Mega Ramen: Shrimp Tempura, Chashu Pork (Replaced this with Fried Tofu), Half Marinated Egg, Corn, Bamboo Shoots, Scallion, Sliced Kikurage (Wood ear mushroom)
While the interiors of the restaurant and flatware are aesthetically pleasing, my main gripe is that everything was over seasoned and tasted overtly black peppery. If you were to ask me how the ramen's broth tasted, I'd just say peppery. While I was grateful to be able to sub the chashu pork with fried tofu, I think inari tofu would taste better with the ramen.
I tried the omurice, but I could only make out a peppery taste. While the omurice came out on a cute black marble paved plate, I had a hard time scooping anything off it because the bumps were a bit of a hassle. Maybe instead of sacrificing accessibility for aesthetics, find a happy medium?
If you want to try Tenjoy, I recommend first coming for the $25 lunch set since this is a good deal inclusive of an appetizer, main, and dessert; plus you won't get buyer's remorse if your experience isn't too hot. I'm a firm believer that when a restaurant makes good food, they don't have to overseason it-at the same time, imagine if someone was actually allergic to the black pepper seasoning? The gesture of the complimentary Thai Iced Tea was appreciated, however that can't be the main thing that pulls the restaurant's weight.
