Located in the Hangar food hall at Long Beach Exchange near Long Beach Airport, Tenori serves made to order onigiri. They have been popping up with locations all over the place and, though I've seen it around, this was my first time trying it. I have to say that I liked it a lot more than I thought I would like it and I think it's a great addition to the food court.
I got 3 onigiri for $11 and went with tuna with mayo, spicy salmon, and KBBQ (Korean BBQ) flavors to diversify my exposure to their menu. Here are my thoughts:
1) The rice they use on the onigiri is served warm and it's cooked absolutely perfectly
2) The fish is simple, but it does the job. I do not think that I'd get tuna with mayo again, but I might get spicy salmon or spicy tuna again. The fish resembles what you'd get in the can, but it does the job.
3) I really liked the KBBQ onigiri as the meat, rice, and onion combo was nicely balanced and very satisfying.
The food came out fast, it was very filling, and I felt extremely satisfied. I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it. I will likely come back to try more. I think I'd be more inclined to get more of the meat onigiri than the fish onigiri, but it's all pretty satisfying and the flavors are quite different. If you're at the Hangar, this is a pretty solid option!
