Tentenyu Review - Sawtelle Japantown - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Tentenyu is a Japanese ramen import that’s been serving hot bowls of noodles for over 40 years in Kyoto. Tentenyu’s distinguishing factor is that its broth is chicken-based, not pork - so it’s still fairly rich, but not so much that you want to fall asleep at your table. Also, you never have to wait in line." - Brant Cox

Google
Very good ramen in the basement of a building. Not straightforward to find but once you get there you are greeted by very enthusiastic staff and a super tasty ramen. We had a great dinner, ordering a ramen bowl each and a cold beer. Particularly happy about how kind and chatty, in a super respectful way, the staff was. Would definitely go back.

Definitely top three ramens we had in Japan. We got into Kyoto pretty late and it was one of the few Ramen spots that was open and definitely worth . In the basement of a building, but very good. The broth was flavorful and they had good priced to set meals.

The chicken-white soup is super yummy and the boss is very friendly! My 6 y/o-daughter finished a set 😆

注文/order: 鶏塩中華そばセット/salty chicken Chinese soba set 値段/price: 1040円/yen It was quite delicious. This is a good variety option as compared to Kyoto's traditional thick and rich flavoured ramen. This restaurant offers a lighter flavour and more refreshing ramen taste and it was a good change for ramen lovers like me who seek a variety in flavours while still being able to enjoy having their favorite food on a regular basis. They also have cheaper options other than my order as I tend to eat more than the regular portion. I will definitely recommend this place 👍

Their pork chicken ramen was the best ramen of my life. Fyi people who are Japanese almost never give out 4 or 5 stars, so the higher the google rating, the more the restaurant caters to tourists. This spot was in the basement of a nice commercial building and we were the only tourists in sight. I love how they give you all the condiments: chili oil, spicy garlic chile paste, pickled ginger, ‘ramen sauce’, and several others.

Cash only, no English. I had an amazing Tonkatsu ramen. Much much better than what I had at one of the Ichiran chains nearby ( for comparison, I ordered a 4/5 fattyness for the broth and 4/5 chewiness for my order there). Here at Tentenyu I found the broth perfectly hot, non-oily, non-salty, and densely flavorful. This basement level joint was mostly empty at 4pm in the afternoon. Had amazing frozen strawberries with a sweet filling to cool and sweeten the mouth after.

A small hidden gem for ramen. Price is very reasonable. Service was prompt and polite. Seating is somewhat of a problem as it is only counter seating. The broth and cha shu were flavourful. Cha Shu is thin sliced but I prefer it thinner than a thick piece. Broth base is chicken which I usually do not prefer but this place took it to a next level and I really liked it. I would have ordered 2 bowls per sitting if we did not have other plans today.
