Tenuta Negroamaro (Sannicola, Puglia) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"This corner of Puglia is unusually green, and so is Tenuta Negroamaro, just outside of Gallipoli near the coast of Salento. The farm and vineyard exert a verdant influence on the hotel’s interiors, by the London-based Olga Ashby; the ten suites are designed in a playful and memorable rustic-chic style. And while the estate is best known for its red wine, the rest of its produce is put to equally good use in the hotel’s small farm-to-table restaurant." - Tablet Hotels

Exceptional stay with my family. Hotel had quiet and mindful atmosphere. The kids loved the pool while we enjoyed the peace and comfort of the rooms. The staff was extremely friendly and went so far as to make sure we had a great time. The selection of fruits and pastries during breakfast was awesome. We had amazing dining experience with Chef Mario. Will definitely be going back.

We spent six wonderful nights here and couldn’t be happier. From the warm welcome at check-in to the spotless, cozy room overlooking olive trees and gardens, everything was perfect for relaxation. Breakfast was a delight every morning with fresh fruit, pastries, and omelets made to order, and dinners at the estate’s restaurant were just as delicious and romantic. The peaceful countryside setting is ideal for couples who value comfort, charm, and attentive service. We’ll gladly recommend this place to friends and can’t wait to return.

The tenuta which is the luxury country home. The setting is so peaceful. There are olive trees, gardens, and lush trees all around the property. I believe there are only 10 villas which gives a very nice private vibes. During our stay we met a wonderful couple and a nice family with kids, which is great because the kids can enjoy the property while the adults can relax in the cozy 'living room' lounge. The staffs, the chefs are wonderful. We met chef Marlo who came to greet us personally. And They provide personal service and always

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are amazing. Drinks are on the pricier side. Location is crazy beautiful. Service is amazing: they see when you go for breakfast, after breakfast your room is magically cleaned. They have 2 of the sweetest little dogs running around the compound. We stayed at the trullo (old school stone iglo, completely refurbished to luxury standards). Highly recommended when visiting puglia!

We recently spent 5 nights here for our honeymoon in June, following our wedding in Puglia. This is a genuinely hard review to write, as there is so much that this place gets right. Firstly, this property beautifully embodies the concept of "slow living," which was an absolute dream after the hustle and bustle of London and the excitement of our wedding. Our pool suite was absolutely gorgeous, offering a perfect sanctuary for post-wedding relaxation with its lovely outdoor area and daily housekeeping. We loved that they refilled the coffee pods/ water in the room each day. The expansive property itself invites leisurely exploration, allowing you to roam around, see the animals, and enjoy a gym session. Breakfast was great with an array of options including being able to order a perfectly cooked omelette. Crucially, the staff across the board were friendly, contributing positively to the overall atmosphere. Our frustrations began even before arrival. On the day we were due to arrive, the hotel cancelled our booking after attempting to process payment ahead of time, despite Hotels.com clearly stating it was 'pay at property.' This caused unnecessary stress right before our honeymoon - thankfully we could rebook. As big foodies, we had high expectations, especially given previous reviews. However, the menu was quite limited, with the lunch and dinner offerings remaining the same throughout our stay, and the only dessert option being ice cream. While the food wasn't bad, it simply wasn't great, and given the high price point, our expectations for quality were not met. We wouldn't have minded the cost if the quality equated to the price, but we found we could get far better quality food at a fraction of the cost elsewhere nearby. Although the presentation was beautiful with lavender and edible flowers, this didn't compensate for the taste. A specific recurring issue was the wedges served with almost every meal; consistently undercooked, hard yet oily. A particular disappointment was the fish BBQ evening, priced at €80 per person (excluding drinks). Unfortunately, they forgot our starters entirely, turning it into a two-course meal instead of three. Even more frustratingly, three out of the four fish served were overcooked, with the calamari and octopus being particularly rubbery. The dessert course being ice cream again (we don't have a sweet tooth so this wasn't an issue for us). Finally, and perhaps most disappointingly for a honeymoon, despite referencing our special occasion multiple times throughout our stay, there was no real special acknowledgement – not even a handwritten note. At £500 a night, this felt quite disappointing. We were offered a glass of wine on the last night, only to be charged for it later. While this was eventually rectified after some back and forth, it left a rather sour taste. Adding to this frustration, after settling the final bill and checking out, they whatsapped us afterwards to say they had forgotten to add something (which was difficult to verify given how the bill is broken out – a proper POS system would probably help). It was only at this point that they acknowledged the BBQ wasn't up to par or the honeymoon drinks, not when these issues were raised earlier during our stay. When you aren't fully happy with your stay, being asked to wire an international transfer doesn't sit well. This hotel offers a beautiful, tranquil setting with excellent service from its friendly staff and wonderful accommodation. However, for those who value their culinary experiences and expect recognition for significant life events, the high prices for food that doesn't consistently deliver on quality, coupled with the lack of special honeymoon acknowledgement, and the initial booking stress, detracted from what should have been an unforgettable stay. I hope this feedback is taken constructively as there is a lot of potential!

Luxury at its finest. Breakfast, lunch and diner are absolutely gorgeous. We stayed in the trullo which gives a modern twist to the ancient tradition. Highly recommend this place when visiting Puglia.

Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing stay at Tenuta Negroamaro. Given the room rate and the pictures on the website, we had expected a ‘relaxed luxury’ experience, but this fell far short. I want to be fair and balanced - as I say further below, parts of the hotel are great, but many others are significantly below par. The room we were initially given was tiny, smelled damp and was dirty (marks on the walls, ceiling and in the shower - see photos). The hotel, to their credit, seemed to accept this was not acceptable and very promptly moved us to another (larger) room. Whilst somewhat better (there was no damp smell), the walls were still marked, and the bathroom was so tiny it was difficult to open and shut the door because of how close it was to the toilet. The outside area (being a ‘pool suite’) was very nice. We had to move to another room for our final night, because the alternative room was not available that night. This third room had at least clearly been cleaned more thoroughly (it smelled of bleach), and had a more spacious bathroom (this was the ‘garden suite’). The beds in all of the rooms were uncomfortably hard, and on the final day we were woken up at 8am by the sound of power tools on-site… we appreciate that the workers likely wanted to start work before it got too hot, but it was not very relaxing! Whilst the main lounge and pool area are lovely (see photos), the rest of the site leaves much to be desired. It seems that work is still ongoing to finish the hotel, but much of the site is unkempt (unswept areas, piles of rubble on the driveway etc). The furnishings in the rooms feel cheap (e.g. paper cups, no kettle, cheap bathroom fittings). To be honest, the rooms feel more like a basic AirBnB than a hotel of this price! The hotel is also located in a bizarre area outside Gallipoli, which feels somewhat deserted - it is tucked away down a road which seems disused, and when we arrived we were sure Google Maps had taken us to the wrong place, but no - the hotel was there. The disused funfair rides next to one of the access roads really added to this strange impression. The staff are all very pleasant, and the breakfast is great, although our one dinner experience was a bit disappointing. We only ate at the hotel on one night, and there was a limited menu that night, which we weren’t informed about in advance. As I have seen mentioned in another review, the only dessert option is ice cream (only 2 flavours). There was also only one option for each course, all of which were beef. Whilst the food was good quality, you would hope for a bit more variety. Overall, whilst we were grateful to the hotel staff for trying to accommodate us after the problem with the first room, we were left feeling that we had not got what we paid for, nor what we were led to believe we would be getting, especially when compared to other properties we have stayed during the past year at this price point. Our advice would be to not waste your money here, unless the hotel brings down the room rate to match the standard on offer. We made clear at checkout that we thought some compensation was in order, but the reception staff said they had no authority to deal with such matters. We asked them to escalate the matter to management (via our booking agent), but we are still yet to hear back from the hotel four days after checking out, which has ultimately left us feeling like our concerns haven’t been dealt with.
