"Just south of the Mercado de La Merced, this tiny little nook of a restaurant is a surprise in every way. With just a handful of tables and no menu in sight, the tasting pulls inspiration from Oaxaca’s Mixteca region. The young chef Toño García cooks with the maturity of someone much older, as he brings refined flair to indigenous preparations. His colorful, accomplished dishes wouldn’t be out of place in far ritzier settings, starting with the avocado croquette crowned with nopales. Fish and plantain wrapped in hoja santa in an aguachile pulls flavors from Mexico and beyond.Reservations made through Facebook should be guaranteed before arrival to avoid disappointment, and don't forget to bring cash, as credit cards are not accepted." - Michelin Inspector

Incredibly well thought out dunning experience from the well decorated seating area with a mix of jugs extracting flavors to a view of the main fire fed stove for making tortillas and smoke flavored foods. Set menu that comes out plate by plate with deep explanation. Servings are unique; lava rock with sap burning on it, a bowl of charcoalized wood with a hot ember and rosemary making the taco on top and filled with aroma. My only complaint is I left hungry which feels weird for the price

We had our Christmas dinner here, and it was a real treat! The food and ingredients were amazing, and some of the dishes we had tried in Oaxaca were even better. The place has a really cool bohemian vibe that makes you feel right at home. But unfortunately, the service was terrible. It took us an hour get out of the “welcome drink” and our waitress, who was also explaining the dishes, didn’t seem to care as much as the chef did. I hope the service improves soon because it really ruined the experience.

The food is excellent with very interesting flavors from all over Oaxaca. Specifically the Indigenous food and herbs. If you are willing to try new flavors outside if the norm, this will be the place. From the handmade drink concoctions of fermented fruits to the gin and vermouth you see fermenting in front of you, to the smells and flavors of the eclectic food brought before you. This is truly an amazing experience. The chef personally introduces the dishes to you and from his banter you can tell he truly love what he does. Thank you for an amazing evening. Highly recommended.

I give it one star due to the overall experience. The food was good although not as expected. What I truly liked was the esthetic of every plate and the ingredients used. However, the service was extremely poor for a michelin restaurant. My partner is gluten intolerant and the waitress had no clue about what it is nor the minimum interest in going and asking in the kitchen. There were 7 steps from which you do not receive any proper piece of protein so the feeling is frustrating when leaving the resto. The toilet was blocked and was not working for about 30 min. There is no menu at all to see the cost of drinks. You have to pay cash. The cost is 1250 MXP per person with no drinks. I paid 2700 MXP in total including 2 bottles of water of 296ml each). The overall experience is thought-provoking as you wonder if the place is paying taxes and their employees properly.. all in all, I personally do not recommend it. There are many great options out there in Oaxaca for a better price and service. Do not waste your money here and be distracted as happened to me by the nice way the food looks in the pictures.

Hidden gem that rivals Casa Oaxaca or Criollo for artístic presentation, elevated mixture of flavors. It’s a tasting menu with 6 courses that may be pared with creative unique drinks that complement the flavors of each dish. Service has improved from last review. Prices are not listed and while high for Oaxaca, are in line for what you get. Cash only, so plan accordingly (1500 pesos pp

Place is phenomenal.. off the beaten path, quaint and delicious. Had an amazing experience with my family for my daughters 1st birthday and my 40th birthday. Dorian behind the bar and also helping serve and translate a few of the dishes was amazing. Highly recommend this place for a cozy evening and delectable tasting menu.

We just had a lovely dinner here. The food was inventive and interesting, and we especially loved the housemaid drinks. The portions aren’t huge but we left satisfied. Staff are largely Spanish speaking and there wasn’t a lot of explanation of what was coming, but we were happy just to be on the adventure.

What an uniquely incredible experience. Everything about this restaurant was thought out impeccably, down to the water. We were served two fermented drinks which were absolutely delicious and paired between certain courses in addition to a flavoured water that complemented the entire meal. We were surprised that it just kept going, but always happy! The food was interesting, surprising, and perfectly balanced. The flavours of the food were perfect in small portions and I can honestly say I haven’t tasted anything like it, even if I wouldn’t necessarily want a larger plate. The ambiance was stunning and service was friendly and prompt. While it was an expensive meal in comparison to other places in Oaxaca, something this thought out and well-executed is assuredly worth the money. It’s also worth noting that they were able to adjust the food to no fish due to a personal preference on the fly and still create a meal that progressed like a song! Left full, happy, and reeling from the beauty of the experience! CASH ONLY
