"Just south of the Mercado de La Merced, this tiny little nook of a restaurant is a surprise in every way. With just a handful of tables and no menu in sight, the tasting pulls inspiration from Oaxaca’s Mixteca region. The young chef Toño García cooks with the maturity of someone much older, as he brings refined flair to indigenous preparations. His colorful, accomplished dishes wouldn’t be out of place in far ritzier settings, starting with the avocado croquette crowned with nopales. Fish and plantain wrapped in hoja santa in an aguachile pulls flavors from Mexico and beyond.Reservations made through Facebook should be guaranteed before arrival to avoid disappointment, and don't forget to bring cash, as credit cards are not accepted." - Michelin Inspector

A unique, unusual experience. The chef is a recognized master of haute cuisine, combining flavors with the warmth of someone who knows their origins. The sequential presentation of portions is the ideal size for a complete meal. Creative dessert. They adapt the menu for all types of food restrictions. Impeccable reception and service. The decoration for the Day of the Dead was a wall altar created from candle wax, besides the lovely dried flowers's arches.

The chef & kitchen staff are doing a wonderful job. The food was amazing. The service was absolutely terrible. There is 1 server for 6 tables. No orders are taken. She might need to make a few cocktails here & there. And the kitchen helps to bring out the food. We asked at least 4 times over 30 or so minutes for a wine opener and glasses to the point of me going behind the bar to get them myself. We finished our dinner and finally got her attention to ask for the check after 20 or so minutes. After at least 10 more and deciding we would wait for her to come out of the kitchen 1 more and if no check, we would leave $ on the table & leave. So….thats what it came down to but my husband did take it into the kitchen and say we had an early flight. Also, book early (6:30-7:30). Those that came later had to wait. One couple waited at least an hour past their res. He kept looking at his watch and po’d.

Tika’aya was a pleasant surprise. The food was delicious and presented in a unique and intriguing way. The service was excellent and the waitress Lily was kind and patient. She introduced each dish with carful attention to each ingredient. The atmosphere is dark rustic and intimate. Cash only.

Incredibly well thought out dunning experience from the well decorated seating area with a mix of jugs extracting flavors to a view of the main fire fed stove for making tortillas and smoke flavored foods. Set menu that comes out plate by plate with deep explanation. Servings are unique; lava rock with sap burning on it, a bowl of charcoalized wood with a hot ember and rosemary making the taco on top and filled with aroma. My only complaint is I left hungry which feels weird for the price

Amazing experience and incredible creativity in food preparation and presentation. Inventive dishes with great use of ingredients including a wide range of vegetables. A wide range of colorful and flavor forward salsa's and infused oils really added to the richness of the food. We had had enough mezcal on our trip so we opted for the restaurant-made kombuchas which were delicious (coffee, hibiscus, passionfruit). We will definitely go back again. Two minor nits: a) google reservations didn't quite work, allowing us to make a reservation for a time when it was not open (and there was no record of the reservation. b) cash only

We had our Christmas dinner here, and it was a real treat! The food and ingredients were amazing, and some of the dishes we had tried in Oaxaca were even better. The place has a really cool bohemian vibe that makes you feel right at home. But unfortunately, the service was terrible. It took us an hour get out of the “welcome drink” and our waitress, who was also explaining the dishes, didn’t seem to care as much as the chef did. I hope the service improves soon because it really ruined the experience.

The food is excellent with very interesting flavors from all over Oaxaca. Specifically the Indigenous food and herbs. If you are willing to try new flavors outside if the norm, this will be the place. From the handmade drink concoctions of fermented fruits to the gin and vermouth you see fermenting in front of you, to the smells and flavors of the eclectic food brought before you. This is truly an amazing experience. The chef personally introduces the dishes to you and from his banter you can tell he truly love what he does. Thank you for an amazing evening. Highly recommended.

Incredible food and service, only slight issue is the location but apart from that great place would recommend 10/10
