"Teoté House Cafe is a counter-service restaurant serving knockout arepas (South American corn cakes), rice bowls with beans, vegetables, and meats, and a sizable menu of agave spirits. The house margaritas, built in a collins glass over ice, are deliciously refreshing to sip out on the covered patio, but it’s the mezcal margaritas that really shine. These juicy, lightly smoky drinks get a dash of orange juice to balance out the heat from the mezcal." - Alex Frane

Nice local joint with a delicious full menu of gluten-free options (GF kitchen). Queso is on point, added to nachos, even better. Brisket arepa was well made and tasty, but chicken one really reminded me of my time in South America. Amazing how flavors can bring back memories. Was disappointed that large patio was closed, but there are sidewalk tables out front for al fresco dining. There was no mention of a vaccination card requirement when we went. We will be back. Gluten-Free rating: 5/5

Great food, great service. The guy working was really friendly and inviting. The portion was generous and the flavors excellent. I’ve been continuously eating for 30 minutes and only got halfway through my vegan bowl. Would not skip the plantains, so yummy. The soyrizo was also great and they had cool salsas to pair stuff with. Including a picture of it half eaten which isn’t the prettiest but I wanted y’all to see how much food it was lol

This place is hard to miss with it's shout out to you blue exterior. I arrived at 5pm on a Monday and drove around a couple of times before finding a parking space. Once inside, I thought it was a cute little eatery and after placing my order for a cueso appetizer, the brisket bowl and Horchata drink I was told that there was more seating upstairs which was a great thing as the music downstairs was a little too loud for comfort. Once I climbed the stairs with my order number in tow I was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of comfortable seating inside and additional seating outside on the patio. I reccomend this place to anyone in the mood for some Latin food and drinks in a comfy setting. The food was good, not extraordinary but I think the decor and ambiance is what really sells this place.

Google
This place is amazing, with fantastic food and even better atmosphere. We came around 7 and the place looked empty only because I didn't realize there was a whole second floor up above us. Once we'd order we took our number and followed the servers going upstairs with food. The main dining area upstairs is beautiful with nice sturdy wooden tables and booths and excellent atmosphere. We went into the patio which is this lovely long room with a bank of windows overlooking the street. There are only two person tables back here but we were able to fit a third on one without being in the way. Then when we went in search of a bar we found the outside patio. It's covered which was great since it was already raining. It also has a bit stone fireplace with seating and other tables to the sides and the bar in the back. The food was amazing, down to the last bite! The smoky pollo arepa, even though it looks like a small bowl was soo filling and delicious and the steak was delicious on the plate meal.

Google
I loved this place, the pork belly & palatines were absolutely amazing! The chicken was also really good, but the pork was my favorite! 10/10 would go again

Google
Excellent casual dining joint in inner SE. Venezuelan cuisine. Very solid approach. The bowls are totally scrumptious and filling. My recommendation is to opt for the mole bowl with a side of pickled onions. The hot sauce is also amazing, as well as their selection of mezcal. The outdoor seating is also a huge plus at the Southeast gem.

Google
Nice joint for a quick and tasty lunch. The (interior, and exterior) decor is overwhelmingly colorful for my preference, but, it stands out from a multitude of forgetful decor. The food was tasty. The Ama's bowl, with Pebellon beef was delicious. Fried plantains was done well, and the brisket was well seasoned. The only thing I wish was done better is the rice. I like this joint, but, I think they can up their rice game! Rive was too bland, and a little watery. Service was fast, and very professional.

Google
The food was excellent and very delicious! I don't normally eat gluten free food, but it didn't taste any different from food with gluten. The margaritas were also really good. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

Yelp
I hadn't been here in about 4 years. I remembered the food and ambience both being amazing, this was not my experience yesterday. If I had to summarize my experience, I'd call it "sad." They only had one employee which was weird.. Ambience: They closed their patio and upstairs seating so the restaurant is now only a small eating area. Felt cheap to eat using disposable plates and cups. Food: The queso dip was amazing but that was the only thing I liked. The vegetarian plate lacked flavor and the beans were cold. "Agua Fresca": please do not order these. It tastes just like margarita mix without tequila. THIS IS NOT HOW THEYRE SUPPOSED TO TASTE.

Yelp
Hadn't been here in years but really glad it was still around when I came back to Portland. They had the same great menu and delicious home made sauces that you definitely want on your meal to give it an extra pop of flavor. Unfortunately their upstairs section is closed/no longer going to be theirs and they only have the downstairs area, which is still nice but definitely takes away a lot of their room and ability to look out over the street. The flavors of their dishes have a nice combination of savory and tangy, with veggies, herbs, the biscuit, and meat. I hope they stay in business!

Damon D.

Yelp
Been 5yrs since our last visit and closed for equipment maintenance the day we can come. Also sad to see patio and upstairs closed permanently.

Rebecca B.

Yelp
We had a small window to eat, plugged in gluten free near me and this popped up for a reasonable price. Loved it! Took my boys in, they had no problem finding plenty of things to choose from. The chef was fun and engaging, the waitress was the same. It's very cozy and bright and the food is friggin' delicious. I know they had a balcony that's closed now, and that's sad, but if it had never been there I wouldn't know the difference. Very clean tasting food, high flavor, yummy hot sauce, food came out quickly, and we left stuffed without feeling greasy gross. Which is important when you're about to put on fancy clothes to watch the opera.

Ploy N.

Yelp
Have had food catered from here a few times and gotta say that they've been very solid! Everything was done well and super flavorful. The Smoky Pollo was tender and packed a punch with the spices. Don't sleep on their salsa and pickled onions as well; they're addicting.

Jeannie D.

Yelp
Outstanding service for being one guy on a busy Sunday! He took the orders, made the delicious food, was handling take out & made time to talk to us about some creamery's online. It's a smaller spot, no longer has outdoor seating but has big windows for light. Street parking of course. P.S. Try the Queso!!

Cami S.

Yelp
Teote House Cafe had great flavors and quick service. I had the Smoky Pollo bowl, the chicken was smoky, tender and salty while the bits of plantain added some sweetness to the crunchy cabbage in the bowl. The El Diablo pork was caramelized but very oily. Portions are big and filling. We had hoped to sit in the outside area but it doesn't open till later in the day.

Paul K.

Yelp
Ayo Tay-O! Teote house cafe is poppin' with flava in your mouth and your ear (shout outs to craig mack). Been eating here since I've moved here since 2019 and they catered my wedding. Solid food for a great price point. Best bang for your buck when you need some plaintains, rice, protein, veggies. This review is reflective of the food alone. Now, just as an FYI, there is some reformatting of the usage of the space. I think their upstairs section is closed or is no longer their space. Nonetheless, this spot is so yummy, you should come eat. Any of the bowls is a great place to start.

Lyle M.

Yelp
Super nice dude working at the front (and still fully masked!) made us the most amazing Teote platter to-go today. We never go out to eat anymore (bc Covid) so to have such a wonderful feast completely made our day and was delicious and amazing. We got home and opened it and it was legit like a food Christmas. Thanks so much for being awesome.

Alissa N.

Yelp
Unfortunately I wasn't a fan overall; ordered their brisket teote bowl which was dry as hell and bland. The nacho appetizer was also bland. Part of the reason we wanted to eat here was because of the fire pit dining area we saw online, but for whatever reason that area was closed, so everyone was packed into very close quarters. It was really just not as pleasant and comfortable as I expected. The plantains and their prickly pear margarita were great, though-- and the prices were good.

Hannah W.

Yelp
Restaurant is only open for takeout! The Teote Plate weighs about 5 lbs.! So much goodness in one box! Love the pickled onions with a bite of savory pulled pork and sweetness from the plantains. The guac was fresh and the arepa dense and sturdy to hold the weight of the food. Enough for two meals!

Jesse S.

Yelp
They have a website with menu! When I came in, I knew exactly what I wanted, so that alone earns extra stars (: I ordered Teote Bowl with El Diablo Pork ($11.75 as of July 2022) and Arepitas (6 for $8). Omg, the bowl was so so sooo good; I don't think my mouth has ever tasted such diversity of flavors! Everything on the plate was just perfect. Arepitas were great, too! I always try to seek new food places when I am in Portland but I think this is going to be my go-to place from now on (:

Jenifer W.

Yelp
I ordered the teote bowl with soy chorizo and the flan for delivery. The bowl was absolute trash. It was inedible. It looked and tasted like they took random leftovers from the fridge and mixed them up with an entire package of soy chorizo and then nuked it. There was some old Spanish rice and some old white rice in there and so "meat" heavy and mushy with two buried plantains and dry, tasteless cabbage on top. The flan smelled of old refrigerator/freezer, filled up half of a small to go container, and had a date on it if 9/1, with the date of the order 9/5. It tasted cheap, old and underwhelming. Nothing like any flan I've ever had. I will never eat at this place again.

Stephen M.

Yelp
It seems like they have given up. Flavor was decent but nothing seemed fresh and it was all served on disposable bowls and cups. Compared tot he pictures on yelp it was very disappointing.

Audrey W.

Yelp
Updating this review to say that I haven't had a chance to return to Teote since this review (2 years ago) and it is just as incredible as I remember! They are only doing takeout currently due to COVID, but everything was still delicious and worth the trip.

Andrew H.

Yelp
Cheap beer. Outstanding San Gria. Great food. (huge arepas fan here) Flavorful sauces. Nice covered patio. What is not to like about this spot? I'd come here every week if I lived in Portland.

Melissa E.

Yelp
wow one of the worst "Mexican Food" because this restaurant should not even be consider as, not even close to what real mexican food is. Tasteless food, horrible guac, small portions. Please avoid coming here

Ellie B.

Yelp
This used to be one of our fave Portland spots all my Out of town friends were obsessed. Sadly now it's a shell Of what it used to be. Maybe the Alberta location is where it's at now?

Lucas K.

Yelp
My wife and I were looking for a place to eat that had a nice patio and Teote came up as one of the best patios in Portland. However, unless you get there early or for lunch, the patio is going to be packed and you'll be forced to sit elsewhere downstairs or upstairs. It's not the patio that keeps bringing us back to Teote, it's the food! Teote is serving outstanding Venezuelan food. Every dish we've tried has been extremely flavorful. The AMA's bowl with el diablo is probably my favorite. This includes rice, fried plantains, verde sauce, queso fresco, cilantro, and of course their el diablo which is a flavorful pork belly. Another dish I highly recommend is Pabellon which is beef brisket with black beans, verde sauce, plantain sauce, smoked gouda, and cilantro. Other notable items are their fried plantains and sangria. When you come to Teote be prepared to stand in line. But you won't be disappointed with the food. I only wish the seating was a little better and that you could hear the music any place you're sitting. Right now you can only hear music on the patio. If this issue was fixed, I would easily give this place 5 stars.

Caitlyn S.

Yelp
Today I got a $15 small greasy bowl of rice and beans with flecks of bacon (no cheese, cilantro, veggies or $3 guac that I paid for). Was supposed to be the el Diablo Toeté bowl... looking at other pics and having been here before this was a major disappointment. Tried to call instead of leaving a review to give them a chance to remedy the order but there is no working line to the restaurant. Update: the owner contacted me to issue a refund and apologized for the experience. Hopefully a better experience next time we visit!

Denice R.

Yelp
My 5 stars is for what Teote's has accomplished. They went from a taco truck, to this location which is just celebrating its 5 year anniversary, to their newest location. Their Venezuelan fusion food and drink niche is interesting and different. Their 3-level physical space including outdoor patio with mist, trees, and fireplace is downright sweet. Their prices are reasonable. The vibe is comfortable, laid-back, and welcoming. It's a great place to go eat solo, with a date, or with a group. They've created something original and their success is growing. How can you not celebrate THAT?!

Nerissa T.

Yelp
The food here is delicious! I got the Teote bowl, which comes with your choice of meat, black beans, fried plantains, queso fresco, and cabbage salad. I got mine with the smoky pollo and added guac. Flavors were spot on. For those who want to add some serious heat to their dish, try out the verde and orange habanero hot sauce. Beware: it might take a while to kick in so use it cautiously. And like everyone has already mentioned, great atmosphere and plenty of space. We enjoyed our meal on the patio. Perfect spot to come enjoy food and drinks, especially with summer around the corner! Would love to come back and try out their other items.

Erin H.

Yelp
Came here two years ago. Food was great. Has gone downhill since. Dirty tables, reheated food from previous day. All single use cutlery and dishes. Food was not awful but way overpriced for what they are serving now.

Charlie T.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to grab a drink and sit in their covered patio. Super casual place where you can order at the counter and wait for your food and drink to come out. The arepas are deliciously made and can't go wrong with any of there protein. Happy hour is daily from 3pm to 6pm.

Samuel W.

Yelp
I hadn't been here in quite some time. It is now much smaller and I'm not really sure the inside story but seems like it's just not going to last. I say that because there isn't really anything special about going to this location. The food itself is just ok. Not as I remembered it though a little bland. Got their hottest hot sauce and thought even that was kinda boring very vinegar based and didn't taste much habanero. The queso was pretty good. Maybe 3.5 stars but that's not an option

Jeanie N.

Yelp
Awesome to be able to go to a place that's great during the day and at night for different reasons! Ordering food here, you can't go wrong with any of the bowls. They are filling enough (no leftovers) and there a couple different options (chicken, pork and vegetarian and then the base of the bowl). El diablo is a favorite..craving plaintains now! The house itself is transformed, so you feel like you're in an old house in another country. You order at the front (makes it easier so you don't have to split the bill or wait for it). Then you find your own table. At night I like going to the bar in the backyard. It's covered with heatlamps and a nice firepit. It's great to catchup with friends here and grab a drink and then you can still order food as well!

Courtney J.

Yelp
This Peruvian place serves up a wide variety of arepas bowls as their main selling point. While VERY cutely decorated, it really fell short in the flavor of the food. FOOD: The most important part of any restaurant. First I sampled the watermelon agua Fresca, it was warm when she gave it to me and tasted like syrup... gross! Went with a classic Mexican beer instead. Beef brisket arepas bowl: beef was good but greasy, arepas themselves pretty good Diablo: this pork belly bowl was swimming in so much grease it made me GAG. Like I want to taste the meat, not drink oil. Also over salted. Could barely take a few bites and opted to just drink my coke for the meal. Chicken: the best one, though still underwhelming and over salted ATMOSPHERE: The interior is v cute, they have an upstairs and a back patio all awesomely decorated. A casual place, maybe better to just get margaritas at. SERVICE: The girl who took our order was very nice. OVERALL: I would not come back

Bryan C.

Yelp
Teote is one of the restaurants in Portland that I come back to time and time again. They pair the South American ambiance with superb Venezuelan food. The menu, which ranges from the micheladas and margaritas to the arepas, does not fail to leave visitors satisfied! My go-to choice is their signature plate (with pabellon). Despite the good portion size, you'll be left craving more - it's just that great. This is an easy recommendation if you're looking for something filling and flavorful. If you're on a bit of a time crunch, grab an arepa. My second recommendation is scouting out a good spot on their patio by the fire pit or sitting upstairs by the windows that overlook the street (pro tip: you can push the windows open during the summer for a nice breeze). So with that being said.. The service is great, the food is outstanding, and the ambiance is comfortable. Hard recommendation for anyone spending time in the city!

Rachel G.

Yelp
We walked in here very excited to have some food and drinks. I've never been "greeted" by someone so rude. He babble ranted through his mask at us about how their roof is not open yet, they don't have all their drinks available and blablabla something else. He honestly seemed to think we were anti vaxxers or something (they still have a sign requiring a mask or vaccine card which I was happy to present)?? Terrible. Never again.

Dee M.

Yelp
Pros: Open till late in the night. The rice bowls were nice. The bar had some nice drinks as well! Open air part was really fun. Cons: Tables were extremely dirty Drinks were overpriced!

Jasmine T.

Yelp
I'd been looking forward to eating at Teote for awhile, and now that I have I understand the appeal. Dishes are affordable, well-portioned and tasty. We ordered el Diablo and the beef arepa, both were good but el Diablo was phenomenal. If you're unfamiliar with arepas, they are similar to corn tortillas but thicker and fluffy on the inside with a crispy outside. I definitely recommend trying them, they are well-made at Teote. We did not get a chance to try the cocktails, but I did see that they do $3 off all margaritas on Mondays so I would definitely stop in for that!

Michelle J.

Yelp
Arepa were completely raw in the center. Rude staff. They make you show proof of vaccination to even stand inside to order. Husband who couldn't get his 2nd shot due to a reaction was treated like a leper. Made to stand outside in the rain. I wont ever be going back.

Rohit P.

Yelp
Usually the first impression about this place goes like this:: What deserted area is this? Why is only this place lit up and everything else in the dark? Why is the downstairs empty? Are we the only ones here? Wow the upstairs is so pretty! Wow this is a huge area upstairs! Wooow the fire place looks so cool! This place is greaat!!! ------ The food is very tasty ambience is just I guess the only downside I'd say is the quantity of food.. left me feeling hungry even after spending some $$ But overall great place.

Demi T.

Yelp
I've been here a couple times and really enjoyed my food. I've gotten the Pabellon Arepa and Reina Pepiada arepa in the past and quite enjoyed them but tonight I got the Teote bowl and wasn't as stoked. I can't pinpoint what I didn't love, it just wasn't as good as the others I've had. I am impressed with the portion sizes, I think it's a good amount of food for the price you pay, and the arepas are always fresh and warm. I highly recommend going and sitting in their little covered patio area (when we can) because it feels like a treehouse, has a fire pit and is colorfully decorated. It's a pay at the counter and take a number to your table type place, which is fine for me, but I know some people prefer full service.

Desa D.

Yelp
Probably by far the best meal I had while in Portland. I had the pulled chicken which was seasoned prefect. The rice and beans were hot and made the bowl feel fulfilling. I was feeling unsure about getting the bowl because i was worried i would be hungry. But it was the perfect size. This will totally be my go to place to stop next time I'm in town.

Sowmya P.

Yelp
This seemed like an interesting place and we did end up getting a whole lot of things to start with.. The fried plantains, bit on the sweet side, I could take one of them. The corn cake with the cilantro sauce was good on the first bite but was too doughy once you started digging in.. The nachos were a again a mix of everything we had above.. The vegan bowl had avacado beets and some rice and fried plantains and was bland.. After a point it felt like we are eating the same thing over and over again... One time is ok... I doubt if ll be back

Renni J.

Yelp
The last three times I have eaten their food has been worse and worse. I had the Teote Bowl today, the rice was undercooked, crunchy and water dripping out of the box, so the plantains were soggy. There were two chunks of chicken in it.

Tricia K.

Yelp
Teote had been on my list for years, but got edged out every time I came to Portland. I finally made it and was decidedly underwhelmed. The good: service was friendly and quick, décor was colorful and seating plentiful, the smoky pollo was tasty and fried plantains a fun departure from the routine. The bad: rice and beans in the Teote Bowl had no flavor whatsoever. The problem might've been partially remedied with a bit of salt, but I made the mistake of trying the salsa verde, which tasted like it'd gone off. Also: Motown is okay by me, but does it need to be blasting at lunchtime? Overall, a disappointing experience.

Mikhail H.

Yelp
I had zero expectations and ended up here for a friend's birthday gathering. What a treat! I warn you though that the parking in this neighbor does blow. Its worth the hunt though. The line can get a touch brutal but it is well worth the wait. The food is incredible and very vegan and vegetarian friendly. The portions are quite generous. The space itself is much like the Tardis...it is way bigger on the inside...shockingly so! Their upstairs back patio area is staggering and giant with a great fire pit right in the middle. There is an impressive bar as well. I was delighted with the steak plate which could have easily been shared with another person!

Jessica P.

Yelp
I really want to like Teote, but it just falls a bit short for me every time. We initially gave it a try in the middle of summer and it was hot. It was too hot. We were sweating as we ate because it's very exposed, despite being in a house. I felt like that may have clouded my judgement so we went back, this time it was cooler, soI was able to focus on the food. The moral of the story, don't go when it's blazing hot or take your food to go! It's a cute little house with a lot of bright colors, the decor is fun. You order at the counter and then find a seat either downstairs or there's plenty of seating and a bar upstairs. Because it's in a house it has a unique seating area upstairs and we usually choose a window seat. I went with the Teote bowl with the smoky chicken. I liked the rice and black beans, pretty solid. I thought the plantains were so giant they weren't cooked all the way through, but the smaller ones were good. There was a tangy, vinegar based slaw that was good, but a little heavy handed. Everything worked together well, but it just wasn't doing it for me. I thought it was okay, not as good as I had hoped. My husband got the Teote plate and really enjoyed his pork. It was spicy and sweet with a very unique and complex flavor profile. The arepa was also pretty good, I managed to steal half and that definitely improved my experience. Overall, it's alright, but won't be making it into our rotation.

Melissa R.

Yelp
Amazing! I am so glad I finally tried Teote. I ordered takeout and was very pleased with the way they packaged the food and their eco friendly containers. The food itself was wonderful. The flavors were outstanding, even down to the chips. I don't know what they dust their chips with, but chef's kiss. From someone who has to eat gluten free, I am so glad I can safely enjoy a meal here. Thanks Teote!

Hasol Y.

Yelp
Incredible flavor and great environment here!! My friend and I came on a rainy weekday afternoon and service was quick and very friendly. We shared the pear/ginger agua fresca and arepitas. The arepitas with the habanero crema were amazing! Super fluffy and tasty. I ordered the Ama's bowl with smoky pollo and enjoyed all of it as well. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and there's lots of seating area. It wasn't too busy when we came in but I can imagine it being packed during the weekend and dinner time. I'll definitely be back soon!

Kevin C.

Yelp
Ordered a Teote Plate for delivery via Postmates. This is something I've had plenty of times in person at the restaurant. What I received for delivery was very disappointing and not like I've been used to. The disappointment of my meal has left me never wanting to have food from there again and take the time to write this review. This meal used to easily be one of my favorites in Portland both for the amount and variety of food but also for flavor. I ordered the plate with "El Diablo" Which in the past has been more like chunks of pork belly. What I received was not chucks of pork belly but rather thin fatty strips of overcooked bacon slices not proper chunks of pork belly. The pieces I received were pretty much inedible since it was mostly fat and the sauce was not at all as flavorful as it has been. Based on what I received I would never ever order it again. And warn anyone to be carful ordering it. The plates also used to come with Plantains and their bico. Both of these items were missing in my plate. The whole reason I ordered this meal was for Plantains, bico and delicious pork belly. With the bico and plantains missing and the "pork belly" being disgusting the plate is nowhere near worth the cost. If they were out of the items I would've appreciated being charged less considering I received less food or something extra to make of the lost food. Anyways let this be a warning for anyone who plans to order food from here.

Abby J.

Yelp
I am so glad I finally got around to trying Teote! I got a Teote bowl with el Diablo pork. I added guacamole and an arepita and it was worth it! The flavor is really good, and I appreciate that it is gluten free. I also got a spicy margarita to top it off, which was a great addition. The layout is such that you order downstairs and then find a seat. There is lots of seating and an outside bar. I can't wait to come back when the weather gets a bit nicer!

Gabby R.

Yelp
This is actually my first time leaving a review on an establishment, I was bothered enough about a few things to actually leave a review. First, the staff is almost completely unwilling to make accommodations for patrons who are having any issues. Their attitude is basically "this is what we have, take it or leave it" Second, this establishment is so small you really can't come in here with one or two other people. This really made things difficult for us as we were meeting up with friends we haven't seen in a long time, and we are out of town so we had no idea.

Louise G.

Yelp
Solid! Bold Flavors. Colorful interior. Tons of space. Cool place to take friends and hang out with a drink.

Cottie H.

Yelp
Bright and breezy Venezuelan joint. Housemade aqua fresca, mezcal, and sauces. There is a patio and upstairs that have more ambiance than the few tables on the ground level. Posted up by the open windows under the papel picado, intimate seating and small tables. Charming and breezy, perfect for an 80* evening. I was curious to try their bico de gallo (beet-based) and arepas as I had never had one...both were OK. I got the vegan bowl + queso fresco which was a nice mix of starches and toppings. While I would have liked it to be a bit larger, it was surprisingly filling. Washed down w/ a refreshing Topo Chico w/ lime. I was told by my dining companions that the meat (brisket) was hearty and not fatty or oily. Would visit again and try a mezcal flight and their queso fundido w/ plantains.

Christopher M.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. My first time going here gave me such strong familiar vibes because my father's side of the family is from South America. There is comfortable indoor seating in a house converted into a restaurant, the upstairs has tables looking out onto the street if you prefer a window, and the back has picnic tables for seating groups of people under a protective plastic canopy. I saw groups of 20-somethings, older couples, ladies out for margaritas, families with kids, and everything in between. Overall, the setting is humble with no pretentious aire. It's just a great place anyone can go to and not have to dress up too much, although I also saw a few dressed up people sharing food and drinks and laughs as well. My girlfriend and I got the El Diablo bowl, jalapeño arrepas, and platanos. The servings looked small and I almost began ordering more as soon as they arrived, but after we began eating I was glad I didn't. The food is so rich on flavor - a great blend of meat, spices, fattiness, and hearty starches, along with some delicious salsas on the side. The three "smallish" looking portions were more than enough for the both of us. We also ordered off their drink menu, I can't remember the name, but it was a sweet pink drink with some kind of fruit juice and deliciously high quality, classically smoky mezcal. It was an absolutely perfect offset to the savory food we were eating. The food did not take very long to come out to us, maybe 10 minutes and it was quite busy with other patrons, so no complaints there. The staff were friendly and professional, and it is a casual "seat yourself" type place which I prefer anyway. I love finding a restaurant that becomes my go-to spot for a certain cultural or ethnic vibe and right now this is my spot for South American.

Yelp
Really good. Takeout holds up well, even for re-heating. Fried plantains are even a bit tastier than the already tasty average.

Yelp
I ordered via Caviar and went to pick up my order at Teote in 12th street on Mother's Dat (today) at the exact time the app said. The second I stepped in the door the line cook bellowed at me at the top of his voice asking for my order #. It wasn't in my email confirmation from caviar and took me a minute to find the number. When I read it off to him he told me it would be 15 min...which was 10 past what the app said. That was fine, but the guy treated me as if I had a problem with that ...I didn't. When the app said my order was ready, I went back inside. I see a bag sitting on the counter that had some of the same items as my order so I looked at it since the line cook was so spectacularly unhelpful. Once he finally acknowledged me, he immediately started yelling at me that it wasn't my order and I shouldn't have touched it...I responded that I was going by the app. He yelled at me again that he would call me when it was ready. I told him I wasn't giving him any statuc (I wasn't), I just was going by the app and following directions. He yelled at me again that "he didn't care what the app said." He stepped outside and again BELLOWED at the top of his lungs when my order was ready so I stepped inside and he snapped that it was "the 2nd bag." When I said "thanks for being so nice on mother's day," he bellowed "hold on a minute" and started irately yelling at me again about all his problems, which were that he was the only one working and had "500 orders." I walked away with him still yelling. When I told my husband how horribly I'd been treated, he went in there to talk to the guy, who immediately started yelling the same nonsense at my husband. Completely unacceptable...this is clearly a person with an anger problem looking to take out his anger on anyone he could...which in this case happened to be a mom trying to have a nice Mother's Day dinner and pick up food to help support local businesses. This guy is a complete menace and should be fired. I will not patronize you're establishment again so long as you employ people with anger issues and no concept of how to handle their own stress so it doesn't boil over and think it's ok to rage out on customers. Disgusting.
