If you are looking for authentic, this is about as close as you can get before getting on a plane and going to Japan. I have also been to Japan many times and found this to be the most authentic experience in Pittsburgh. Definitely will be back! As other reviews have said, only complaint is that the salmon onigiri has next to no salmon inside of it. And Everytime I order rice, it never arrives and I have to remind the staff

Wonderful place! Easy to put a reservation in a couple days before. The experience did take us back to our Japan vacation a little, with ordering on a tablet, the delicious food and drink, general atmosphere, and the service. The okonomiyaki, shrimp tempura, and gyoza were all so tasty. I didn’t feel like we were charged way too much for things. My only complaint is with the salmon yaki onigiri… It had only the tiniest flake of salmon in it, while my friend’s had a more normal amount.

I just came back from Kyoto around 2 months ago, and I accidentally discovered this hidden gem in Pittsburgh! Their food tastes exactly like, sometimes even better, than some of the food I had at Kyoto. The decorations in store is also very aesthetic as well, and not to mention, their price is also very fair! We ordered 8-9 dishes and it was only around $70! 15/10 WOULD RECOMMEND AND I WOULD COME BACK AGAIN!!!

Teppanyaki Kyoto is my favourite (whole-in-the-wall) Japanese Izakaya restaurants in town! We love the Hiroshimayaki (a Japanese pancake with yakisoba, cabbage, eggs and teppanyaki and mayo sauce) and Karage Chicken (Japanese Fried Chicken). The Takoyaki (Octopus balls), Chicken/Pork Katsu Curry, and Japanese Croquettes are great too! Their service is quick, but they can get quite busy, so I recommend reserving a spot.

Hands down the best Japanese food I’ve ever had. The older woman running the front was kind and appropriately attentive, the atmosphere at lunch time on a Thursday was very quiet with just myself my partner and a few other older women fussing over who paid the bill. The pork katsu kare was phenomenal, the takoyaki and onigiri were fresh-fresh, I burned my mouth on those squid balls and didn’t regret a single bite. I would drive the 6 hours to make a trip back to this restaurant and if you are in Pittsburgh and do not have Teppanyaki Kyoto in your calendar, make room, order lots and enjoy yourself. A hidden gem I will be visiting again.

Came here to try something new, specifically the cabbage pancake, or okonomiyaki, and it was great trying something new! It was very sweet but at the same time being savory, but not very filling. You would have to order many things to fill you up for dinner, which here could be very expensive. I just got home the okonomiyaki, kimchi, salmon and veggies which ended up being almost $90 for very small portions 😅. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for something new to try but keep in mind you will be spending a lot.

A FOODIE’S GEM OF AUTHENTIC JAPANESE TEPPANYAKI🤩🤩🤩, none of that show off knife flinging in air so common in pseudo-teppan eateries serving mostly greasy stir fries. It’s a a cozy Izakaya, i.e. modern bistro, based on the Kanji concept of “stay-drink-place” to dine-and-dine be comfortable the Japanese way😎😎😎. The ambience is that of a relaxed, minimalist bistro with an open Teppan where cooks prepare foods made-to-order.👏👏👏 This is true Teppanyaki, foods are made-to-order all on a teppan. GOOD FOOD TAKES TIME TO COOK…so NO RUSHED DINING, not the gobble-and-run type. The menu is very very short, as should be for a bistro especially for a Japanese one. ALL THE FOODS ARE SIMPLE, WITH SUBTLE COMPLEX FLAVORS and very textural. RECOMMENDATIONS 🤩 Tako Karaage: tender and fried octopus 🤩 Yasai Kakiage: very elevated veggie tempura, crispy and balanced seasoning 🤩 Saba no Shioyaki: very subtly flavored Teppanyaki Mackerel fillet, the fish is the star 🤩 Kamo Negi: outstanding tender and juicy Teppanyaki Duck sautéed with leeks 🤩 Grilled Mixed Vegetables: very well seasoned, dipping sauce merely lifts up the natural flavors of the veggies and 🤩 Katsu Kare: it’s tender juicy fried fillet of pork served with outstanding Japanese curry, aroma of curry but completely different flavor as only the Japanese can concoct🤩 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩Kare is probably the most understated Japanese dish. It is heavenly!!! *** It is worth mentioning that curry was introduced to the Japanese culinary consciousness in the 1860s during the Meiji Era. Japanese cooks literally re-invented curry🤩🤩🤩 by taming the sharp aromas of spices in curry pastes. They cleverly infused unique Japanese umami flavors (savory meaty flavors of dashi).*** For desserts: The mochis are excellent 👍 Sakura Mochi: lavender flavored (I believe) wrapped in edible cherry blossoms leaf 👍 Kashiwa Mochi: green tea flavored with red bean paste filling Service is outstanding. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I had heard good things about Kyoto and wanted to try a Japanese restaurant, which serves more than sushi. Kyoto didn't disappoint. The ambiance and homely and the service is friendly. Most of the food was delicious, while some of it was ok. In appetizers th pork katsu was descent, while the takoyaki was very good. We got kids (4 & 7) the pork gyoza, Yakima soba noodles, and Yaki onigri. They loved it all. My wife ordered teppanyaki eel, which was the highlight of the dinner. I ordered the oknomiyaki, and it was delicious as well. Overall we had great time here. We will definitely recommend Kyoto, we will be back here soon.
