Teppen Ramen

I didn’t expect much after reading the other reviews but was pleasantly surprised by the ramen here. The items seems to be hit or miss. The curry ramen was really good with a medium curry flavor and firm egg noodles. The veggie ramen (oat milk based broth) was alright and closer to a shoyu broth. I found the topping to be lacking a bit: wish there was corn and mushrooms to supplement the bowl.

If you're looking for authentic Japanese ramen, this isn't the place. We ordered the fried shrimp shumai, which was mostly dough and lacked tenderness, served with soy sauce—a strange choice, as fried shumai is typically paired with sweet and sour sauce. It feels like common sense is missing here. We also ordered two ramen dishes, which were even more disappointing. While the noodles had a good, chewy texture, the soup ruined the experience. It tasted artificial, like something from a chemistry lab, with no real flavor and heavy on MSG. If you're after delicious food, I'd recommend the Indian restaurant next door or the Chinese restaurant across the street.

4 star for the ramen but 5 star for value. The ramen was not bad, the pork was grilled but it was good. $16.9 per bowl is a pretty good price in NYC.

This used to be our favorite neighborhood ramen spot. Now the food is just disappointing. I would give a 0-star rating if allowed. For a bowl of ramen over $20, having only one piece of egg size pathetically dry char siu pork is just terrible!!

This was a nice place, we popped in for a quick lunch after getting to our hotel nearby. Very great place for quick, high quality food. We got the spicy miso and the Tokyo vegetable, both were very good.

I’ve been here a couple times now and while I wouldn’t travel for it, do find it a decent neighborhood ramen spot. They have a nice selection of appetizers - especially like their spicy bamboo which you don’t see often. As for their ramen, I’ve had the shio and shoyu. I prefer the salt based shio a bit more - nice depth of flavor to the broth and the noodles come nicely al dente. Just wish there was a bit more going on - possibly some wood ear mushrooms or bean sprouts for texture.

I wanted to eat Ramen (Chinese noodle with soup). I ordered Teppen Shio Ramen and Takoyaki. Ramen was good, volume was enough. A little bit pity taste of the coup. I liked it, creamy and smoothly but if it was Tonkotsu base (Pork born bouillon), I prefer more thick one. Takoyaki was really nice! I recommend it. It was different than regular Takoyaki, outside was crispy, inside was soft, very clear taste. I ate such tasty Takoyaki first time!!

The gyu-don bowl and all the rice bowls in general are so small and not worth $16 in my opinion. But the atmosphere was pretty good and the service was good, they refilled water a lot. The appetizers were decent, the takoyaki was pretty good and soft and creamy which is good.

Perfect place for a cold winter night. Snagged a table for four in a walk-in, place is very unassuming but clean with efficient service. They were out of a couple things we tried to order (curry ramen and Sapporo beer) but the menu is extensive and has several vegetarian (even a vegan) ramen options that did NOT disappoint. Ramen was hot, fresh and super flavorful. decent portions for around $19 per bowl. Recommend stopping in if in the area and need something filling and tasty!

Cozy ramen place hidden away from the business. I came in a group of 6, and we were seated immediately on a Friday afternoon. The servers were attentive and friendly. We each got a bowl of ramen which came relatively quickly. I got the Teppen Miso Spicy Ramen, and the broth was very flavorful and rich, but not overly heavy by any means. It wasn't too thick or watered down, and clung to the chewy, bouncy, wavy noodles perfectly. I also enjoyed the ramen egg, although I would've preferred a slightly more molten one. The meat wasn't dry but not super out of the ordinary. I always like the touch of corn to add a hint of sweetness to the dish. The Teppen Shoyu Ramen had thin straight noodles that were nicely cooked and a broth that was lighter and not was heavy/rich if that is your preference. Overall, pretty decent ramen and perfect for a cold day, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

DELICIOUS RAMEN!! On East 55th Street, steps from 3rd Ave. Between 3rd and Lex, but closer to 3rd Ave. After my FDR Post Office errand, it was cold out, and I needed to eat. I had wanted to try TEPPEN RAMEN for at least a year, but now was the perfect time. I came in about 2:50pm, after the lunch busy times-I enjoy a late lunch in order to bypass the crowds. There are tables inside, it is cozy with warm natural woods. THERE IS AN "A" rating in the window, and that means a lot, in terms of proper food handling and storage, as well as cleanliness. I had read the rave reviews, and now I have finally enjoyed delicious homemade gyoza AND a wonderful and flavorful bowl of ramen. I will be back to try other menu items, for sure. My food was DELICIOUS!!! I ordered the TEPPEN Shoyu Ramen- it has pork in a chicken broth, with fried garlic, seaweed, seasoned boiled egg, scallions, straight noodles. THE FLAVOR WAS FANTASTIC!! As I finished my ramen, there was about a teaspoon of broth left, and you know how it can be challenging to get that with the special Japanese soup spoon? Well, I know I have really enjoyed the ramen when I lift the bowl and pour that last little teaspoon amount of broth into my Japanese soup spoon, AND THAT IS WHAT I DID!!! :). So very good, I did not want to miss a drop! I know I will be back here again, even in the very cold weather, because my new Eddie Bauer Cirrus Down pants arrived just as our cold weather arrived, so I look forward to more of this delicious ramen this winter. And summer, too! There are lots of choices on this menu, so just take a look at my photos. TEPPEN RAMEN IS A DEFINITE YES!!! Service was nice. You should visit! Enjoy!

While visiting NYC had dinner with my niece & her family. Their Christmas tradition is to have ramen at Teppen Ramen before a visit to the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. We were so happy to tag along. It was so authentic tasting. Best Ramen I've tasted in a long while. Great hot soup for a cold 32 degree weather. The broth was super tasty that I can eat everyday. Hubby & I shared a Shoyu ramen & Pan Fried Pork Gyozas. Service was great. Staff were friendly. We did not wait long for our order place was small but had a nice warm vibe. Next time I visit the Big Apple I will surely stop & have a bowl of deliciousness

Teppen was definitely a surprise, especially since we hadn't planned on coming all the way here for ramen. Unfortunately, we couldn't try the ramen because there weren't any chicken options, but we decided to try a few appetizers instead, and they were delicious! The flavors were on point and made the visit worthwhile. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely come back, even if it's just for the apps.

I am not a huge ramen person; yet, we were hungry and needed something quick before hitting the road so here it goes: AWESOME FOOD, super fresh ingredients & authentic feels. SERVICE was quick & friendly. AMBIENCE was neat and cute. Very chill vibes, casual seating, homey feel. My recommendation? Get their Tan Tan ramen, both versions because they are slightly different from each other but equally spicy and warm to the insides!

Stopped by last minute for a quick dinner and really enjoyed it. The staff were very professional and attentive. I was in and out within 15 minutes, which was perfect for a quick meal.

Lovely ramen restaurant tucked away in busy midtown east! Teppen had a simple lunch menu with a few different ramen options, in addition to other appetizers and entrees. The ramen was delicious -- both the spicy and the miso had creamy broth that were full of flavor. I would definitely come back for more if I found myself in the area again. The space itself is crowded, as is to be expected in this part of Manhattan. But they do a good job of making the most of the narrow floor plan, and the service didn't miss a beat, even at peak lunch times.

Solid Ramen. I have had both the Spicy Shoyo (3/5) and the Spicy Shio (4/5). The shrimp shumai were good (3/5) but not extraordinary while the pan-fried dumplings are delicious (4.5/5). I will continue to visit occosionally

After a super long day a friend and I were craving some Japanese ramen. Normally I would be at Totto ramen but it was far too late and Teppen popped up after a quick Yelp search. For starters we were walking in long past 11pm but the staff were bright and welcoming and also quite inviting. There wasn't anyone else sitting inside at first but a few came after we were seated. The staff are Japanese. The food is delicious. We were served ice water upon sitting and then our orders were taking promptly after that. We didn't have to wait long at all of the food -- if anything it was surprised at how fast it came but then again we were originally the only ones there. While waiting there was Japanese music playing in the background just loud enough to enjoy but not so obnoxiously loud that you can't hear your own conversation. They also had a nice corner with manga books for a light read while passing time. I had the shoyu ramen and it was a solid bowl of ramen I'd definitely come back to have again regardless of the hour of day. The flavor was on point and the serving portion will leave you full and satisfied. It came with straight noodles and the texture was perfect. Overall a great bowl of ramen that ended my day with a win. I regretfully didn't try any other dishes as it was already pretty late but will definitely be coming back for more. Would recommend if you are especially hit with the late night cravings as they are open well past 12am!

Great place in Midtown East to grab a hot bowl of ramen. The only reason I am giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is because the prices are a bit high (my vegetarian ramen was more expensive than the pork ramen!). Vegetarian ramen is usually a hit or miss but this one had a depth of flavor! I loved the addition of fresh vegetables, they added a nice crunch as well as a unique flavor. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area! PS: I've also gotten takeout from here and it's just as good!

I came for dinner and was seated quickly. The restaurant seems clean with dim light and casual vibe. The menu is pretty standard for a ramen restaurant. I got the spicy shio ramen. The broth is the star of the show. It's full bodied, thick, with rich flavor of umami, sesame and garlic. The noodles have a good springy texture. The half egg that was served however was cold, unseasoned and hard boiled. The ramen came with 2 small and thin slices of pork which was too little for the price. Service was good and the waitress was quick to refill water when I run low.

Pros: - Recommendation: Teppen Shio Spicy - Hella good pricing $17 - $20 for ramen - Flavorful rich broth - Thick, juicy, succulent char siu - Jammy, creamy egg FOOD UNDERRATED ASF ramen spot in New York. HOT TAKE: I feel like Teppen is a better spot than Ichiran and Ipuddo. Pricing is a lot better for the portion and quality you get at this spot. Char siu here easily blows the other two out of the water. It's thick, fatty and succulent which when paired with the springy noodles and rich broth speaks to your taste buds and soul in a different type of way. AMBIANCE & SERVICE The restaurant is kinda small but like an intimate, cozy setting. Perfect for late night bites. Service was fast and readily attending to our needs

I've been here like two years ago and this place still doesn't miss. It's just down to earth, comfy Japanese cooking. Whether it's a warm light pleasant bowl of ramen or a filling Donburi or curry, you'll get a very pleasant Japanese comfort meal at a very reasonable price point. This time, I got the Shoyu Ramen, which was light and pleasant and had straight noodles with firm texture, just the way I like it. The pork is a little substandard compared to other great ramen places in the city but the broth is magnificent, warms you up on a chilly evening. Come in for a quick bite and walk out feeling satisfied

My husband and I came here for lunch on a Sunday and got seated right away. The service is very quick and you get your food really fast. We got the teppen spicy and teppen shio ramen and my favorite of the two was definitely the shio ramen. The broth was superrr flavorful and I love the noodles they used. The spicy ramen was just okay imo because the broth was too overpowered by spice but it wasn't spicy at the same time. Each bowl was a regular portion size and the pricing is typical nyc. Overall, thought the place was decent and I would only recommend coming if you were in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. But for ramen, it's pretty good!

Amazing ramen one of the best's I've ever had. The place is nice, and good service. I would recommend this place for sure.

The takoyaki had very little tako (octopus). It was mostly dough and there was too much sauce. Almost overpowered by the sauce really.  The ramen itself was good. We had 3 different types - the spicy trepen, the shio and the shoyo. The tonkatsu flavor is the most savory with the shoyu but they all tasted good. The broth is not too thick and not too thin, the eggs are cooked perfectly half boiled - though you have to eat fast because the longer you let it sit, the more cooked it gets.  The salmon don was ok - hard to mess up salmon but the rice was a little too vinegary.   I think if you come here, just focus on the ramen because that really is the highlight and strength of the restaurant. Everything else is just extra.

I came here for lunch with a group of 3 people on a Saturday afternoon. It was rainy so it was perfect for a hot bowl of ramen. We were looking for a ramen place since we were in the Midtown East area. This was the closest ramen place and the reviews looked good on Yelp. My friends and I ordered the takoyaki, the miso ramen, the spicy shio ramen, and the teppen spicy ramen. The takoyaki was hot and fresh but not much sauce. The ramen broth was flavorful and the noodles were perfectly cooked. The spicy ramen was not really spicy. Prices were average for the area. However, the service was very slow and the waitress seemed to not want to serve us. Also, I only got one chopstick instead of a pair of chopsticks? I don't think that's ever happened to me before. I probably would not come back.

an uninspiring ramen spot that is a bit expensive for what you get. both the food and inside decor were forgettable. i found the ramen broth weirdly creamy instead of light as with normal shio and the shio taste wasnt strong. the egg was also fully cooked through like a regular boiled egg. chashu was ok and I liked that the black fungus was topped dry but the only other topping was scallions. in an age where ramen places dot every few blocks in manhattan, its hard for me to think of a reason to visit this place unless the location is convenient for you.

a great late night ramen spot! i got the teppen vegetable ramen, with wavy noodles since i normally don't enjoy eggless ones, and ended up adding chili oil to give it a kick! the toppings were good, i do wish there was more of the fried tofu though. the noodles and broth were also delicious! my friend got the late night taiwan ramen and said it was not spicy enough for their liking. however, we both enjoyed our ramen overall and would come again!

Ramen isn't always on the top of my list for food cravings but Teppen wasn't bad! We ordered the Teppen Shio, Teppen Spicy, and their limited quantity of Dan Dan Ramen. The broth for each of the soups were similar but had a slightly different taste at the same time. I got the Teppen Shio, which wasn't too rich and creamy and also not too salty. Sadly it only came with 2 slices of pork, but was overall just the right amount of food. If you're looking for a quick ramen fix, Teppen would be a good place to try. The service was decent, they didn't bother us too much which is what I prefer. When we were done though, it seemed like they were rushing to get us to leave, as they cleaned up our dishes like 5-10 minutes after they gave our card back to sign off on the tip. I thought that was a bit weird especially since the restaurant wasn't full and usually servers clean up the dishes while you ask for the check. Besides that, the restaurant was kind of small and was located below street level, so if there is a handicapped person or if you have a large stroller for a child, it'll be a bit hard to go down the stairs. I personally wouldn't come here again since I'm not the biggest fan of ramen but it was worth a try.

such a cozy restaurant perfect for a quick and comforting meal. the waitress was very attentive and made sure to refill our drinks often. the shiyo ramen had a very light broth that paired amazingly well with the mushrooms and pork. I replaced my straight noodles with wavy, which I highly recommend.

Ambiance (5/5): The ramen shop is quite small but plenty of tables. There's also a glass window that peers into the kitchen to watch the chefs prepare! There's an ATM inside. Service (5/5): I visited on a Saturday afternoon and there was only 1 other party there and an overabundance of wait staff. So I felt I was properly attended to. Teppen Spicy (2/5): The broth was very flavorful and appreciated the saffron sprinkled on top. However, everything else lacked in this ramen--there's only half a soft boiled egg and ONE thin slice of charsu pork, which was terribly dry and hard!! There was a small portion of ground meat but overall $18 is quite steep for what this bowl turned out to be. Happy hour is Monday to Friday 2:30pm to 6:30pm with beer at $4 and soju cocktails at $5 and appetizer sets for $11

Ramen and house made pork gyoza are so satisfying. The broth was rich in flavor and generous with the toppings. We had the miso and spicy ramen limited to 20 bowls made a day. I usually don't go for spice but this was tasty with the just right amount of heat! Very enjoyable.

This is a delicious hole in the wall ramen spot! We got the spicy ramen and it was piping hot and not too spicy. Will definitely be back! Quick service and good in and out dinner.

I'm not a huge ramen lover but I loved Teppen! We saw a YouTuber who lives in NYC come in and rave about it, so we had to try. My boyfriend got the Shoyo Miso ramen and I got the Tan Tan Men. I normally always prefer the tantanmen over any other ramens, but if I could go back, I'd get my boyfriend's dish. It was fairly priced, good portions, came out quick, and it was the perfect balance of flavors. It never felt too heavy (a con for many ramen places for me!) and the noodles were so bouncy. The customer service is super nice too and the environment felt inviting. I'll be back!

Love this little hidden gem! The spicy ramen was delicious, i'm so glad i was able to fit this into my trip. The service was quick and friendly and i didn't feel rushed out of the place. The place is very cozy, cute and very inviting.

They're a fraudulent business that has lost its flavor. The service is terrible. It's a very down scale, unappealing place to eat food. They also are very insistent on tipping to the point if you don't, they add their own to your bill afterwards on their behalf.

It was worth to visit this restaurant while you are staying midtown east. Authentic taste but it would've been much better if the soup had been hotter (temp.)

Fantastic! We each haf aoy based ramen, one spicy and one regular. Both so good! Spicy was flavorful and not overly spicy. Nice ambiance. Servers very attentative- great price for sinner or lunch.

This is somewhat of a hole in the wall; it didn't seem to have too much seating, but my group of four didn't have any trouble getting a table around 6:15pm for dinner. I ended up ordering the shoyu ramen which had a rich broth and these straight, more firm, noodles. I did appreciate the flavor of the soup-- it was a bit heavier and fattier than I'd like it to be, but for a ramen broth it was pretty standard. As some others have been saying, the noodle to broth ratio was off-- though I appreciated the amount of noodles I got, I definitely would have preferred more broth to go with them. Jury's still out on whether or not I liked the straight noodles, but I'm going to say they didn't really detract or add to my overall experience. They were just a little different! I didn't grab a photo of it, but we also ordered the fried tofu as an appetizer. It was really lacking that crunch that you look for in this dish, which made it regular tofu. I do love regular tofu, but not when I'm expecting that crisp of the classic fried tofu dish. I wouldn't recommend getting this one. I probably wouldn't come out of my way to come here again but on a scale from 1-10, I rate this decent.

yummy ramen and fast service! we ordered the shio spicy ramen and the miso spicy ramen. I liked the miso one a little more, especially the noodles they used, but both were delicious. The broths were amazing and very flavorful!

Best ramen we have ever had! We make sure to stop at Ichiran every time we visit NYC-definitely worth the wait!

I ordered takeout for a weeknight dinner from this solid ramen spot! I got the Teppen Miso Ramen. I would've liked a bit more umami flavour from the miso, but otherwise this was great and not too salty. I also ordered the gyoza and karaage. The gyoza was good, but not super memorable. The karaage came with pretty big meaty chunks, and I liked the dipping sauce. Overall, this won't be my go-to ramen spot and it's not somewhere I'm dying to return to, but I'd definitely consider it again if I was craving ramen and in the area.

Good food, very salty, and good prices. Got the tuna steak appetizer (rare) and the sauce was super salty. Both the shoyu and miso ramen were very good but also salty. Al dente noodles. Water never got refilled.

Dropped by for lunch for a decent bowl of Ramen and some unfortunately soft and shriveled edamame. On the bright side, service was quick and courteous. Would this be my go-to spot for ramen - no, but if I am craving quick ramen around this area, I would definitely consider coming back.

My friend introduced me to Teppen one day after work. I am obsessed with the quality of the food. The kimchi, karage, and pork buns are soooo good. The service is immaculate and the selection on the menu is extensive. I love coming here because the crowd and staff are always a good vibe.

Overall: 7/10 Food: 7/10 I only tried the shio ramen and shio spicy ramen and enjoyed both. The noodles were on the thinner side but overall still had a nice bite. The broth was not overwhelmingly salty or oily and was smooth and creamy with a light umami taste. I did not try the fried potatoes or takoyaki but the friends that i dined with said that they were great. The takoyaki seemed to be crispy on the edges and perfectly golden brown while the fries was a fan fav at our table, being shared with everyone as more of an appetizer. Service: 7/10 Good and fast service and were willing to accommodate 8 of us for dinner at 5pm Ambience: 9/10 Small place that would be a quick and fast solo dining experience but can still host families or groups if necessary with a brightly lit dining area similar to most ramen restaurants around.

Stopped by at around 11PM after a Broadway show with a party of 2, and it was one of the locations that was open. The restaurant was empty as expected. We started off with the kimchi and shishito appetizer. Great way to kick off our meal! I got the shoyu ramen and it was delicious!! So refreshing for a cold day, it hit the spot for sure. My party got the spicy teppan ramen (it's not too spicy). I definitely wish the broth was hotter, but that's just a preference. I'd come back here for sure! Just keep in mind it's cash only, but there's an ATM inside.

As always- just freaking delicious! Ordered delivery and even those I messed up the address still came hot and yummy.

This ramen restaurant is cozy, no frills, and has a very straightforward menu. This is a great place to catch up with a friend, as the place isn't too loud, but I would say probably that it's not too fit for large/loud groups due to the size of the restaurant. There are no surprises and there's nothing wrong with their food: a dependable bowl of ramen for times when you don't want to experiment with hit or miss restaurants in the city, and just want a no nonsense meal. Really appreciated that the staff let my friend and I stay here for around 2 hours just chatting and catching up despite us just getting one ramen bowl each!

It's a cold windy New York evening, and all we wanted was soup! Eureka! She found one that was 4 blocks from where we staying at the Pierre in Central Park. We bundled up, and off we go on our adventure. The walk was nice, as we were able to sight see, watch ladies in dresses and stiletto's run down the street into traffic hailing down a taxi with a wave of her hand. Teppen is a hole in the wall Japanese Ramen, where you had to go down a basement to get to the restaurant. Once you open the door to this tiny, quaint establishment, you are immediately annihilated by the delicious smell coming out of the kitchen. We arrived a little after 800PM, so the place was still packed with dinner crowds, but we were able to find a corner table. We poured over the menu, and pondered what to order, since it all looked delicious. I went with their vegetarian ramen. The broth was made of soy milk, which was rich in flavor (I asked for extra broth to take back to the hotel) the noodles were egg free, and handmade. The ramen was topped with 2 crispy fried tofu, bamboo shoots, mushroom, chili oil, mixed salad, scallions. My date opted for their fried rice, which had bits of char shu pork, bamboo shoots. It must've been delicious as well, since her bowl was clean. She also had the mango mochi, which was delicious! It was a far cry from the frozen mochi you would get at your local supermarket. The freshness of the mango, and the thin layer of gluttonous rice was a perfect ending to a delicious meal. Highly recommended when you're in Manhattan.

Delicious!! Attentive staff, everything was so delicious. Added some spicy chili powder to give it some kick. Solid meal, perfect on a chilly day. Would def return. Done just to the liking of myself and kids. No complaints at all!

Absolutely fantastic! This is the best ramen in Manhattan ! We love it and eat there every chance when in NY. They have fresh delicious ramen. Exceptional !!
