Where To Eat In Miami When You're Running Late

"Much like croquetas, pikliz, and late-night queso frito—tequeños are an essential part of Miami food culture. And not only do these dough-wrapped Venezuelan cheese sticks blow mozzarella sticks out of the water, but you can eat them in the passenger seat of your friend’s car, who is very pissed at you for taking so long. If that’s the case, share one with them, because Tequeñomania has some of the best cheese tequeños in Miami, as well as dozens more options. Our favorite is filled with carne mechada (similar to ropa vieja) and gouda, and it reminds us of a much-improved version of those taquitos you find at gas stations. Tequeñomania has many options ready to grab and go, but you can also ask them to prepare a few fresh for you and eat it inside." - carlos c olaechea, ryan pfeffer

The Best Things We Ate This Week

"Carne Mechada And Gouda Tequeño Tequeñomania, which has locations in Kendall and Doral, is one of the best places to grab these Venezuelan cheese sticks in Miami. If you’ve never had one, it’s basically the Miami version of fried mozzarella, except made with squeaky queso fresco and wrapped in a strip of dough to look like a bready barbershop pole. What we really love about Tequeñomania, though, is that they don’t stop at the traditional cheese tequeños. We really fell in love with the carne mechada and gouda filling featuring juicy shredded beef (kind of like ropa vieja) and gouda cheese that melt together into one of the tastiest phallic-shaped foods we’ve tried in Miami. Don’t forget to add a squirt of their addictive green sauce." - ryan pfeffer, carlos c olaechea

Google
They sold me bonus bread, I had to buy two because they didn't sell one and it was as hard as a stick. I went to complain and they told me that the bread only lasts when it comes out of the oven and then it gets hard after it's been put into the oven. It's already getting hard, I've never heard so many ridiculous lies 👎

New location at 12700 sw 122nd Ave, kendall. Open only 3 weeks ago far but definitely working hard to stay around. Fantastic customer service. The owner was wonderful with recommendations and the desserts are fresh and delicious. The passion fruit mousse and key lime desserts were so amazing. 21 flavors of tequeño's and other bites ! Welcome to the neighborhood and great start!

I was on the go with wife ordered a coffee and small spinach pastry.Total with taxes 11$, I understand things are more nowadays but this is robbery no prices listed. This is one of many examples why places go out of business. Never again buyer be aware.

Google
We love their chicha as well as the cocada. The best part is that they have a few gluten free options.

Google
Not sure about other flavors, but the original cheese tequeños are definitely the best! Small but clean place. Most of the people order to go. The staff was friendly and courteous. Prices are fair.

If my phone wasn’t dead I would’ve taken some photos! This is amazing. If you like tequenos, you will LOVE this place. Their tequenos are so fresh and filled with deliciousness! We got cheese and guava tequenos. The cheese ones were like the best mozzarella sticks you’ve ever had. The guava was super fresh and tasty while not being too sweet. The tequeno outside itself was supple light and fluffy while still having the smallest amount of crunch to retain the rigidity of the item.

Google
Best Tequeños in town. First time visit, tried the cocada drink and immediately fell in love. Wide variety of tequeños and friendly service. Give them a try.

Google
Never tried tequeños before. They are really good. The girl in front was excellent and polite. Too many flavors to choose from

Yelp
This place is always fantastic Ordered two chocolate tequenos and two of the ham and cheeses. Phenomenal place worth every minute

Yelp
We came out for breakfast and left very satisfied. The tequeños were tasty and good, the service had ladies with knowledge, and the ambience was quiet. Overall I will give it a 4.5 stars, if the place was bigger with a menu with more breakfast varieties, it would have been 5 stars.

Yelp
Service and flavors continue to be great highly recommend anyone give it a try. Just be prepared to pay premium prices in comparison to your traditional bakery prices.

Yelp
I always enjoy grabbing some tequeños from tequeño manía as they are fresh and sometimes made to order. I tend to order in bulk for the family or their combos. Staff is always sweet and nice and the ambiance is quiet.

Yelp
Way over priced. I asked how much the trea leches was she didnt seem to know, then states $6.90. The smaller ones that are the size of your middle finger are 5.00. Doesnt make sense. I asked for a chocolate mousse cup instead and she tells me that one is $7.90. For that price a can go to publix and buy a small chocolate cake. No good ambiance and her customer service skills were not existant. No hello. Its like i was bothering coming in. Never setting foot in that place

Yelp
The only reason I look forward to getting my oil changed! I always walk here while I'm waiting for my oil change, and the Tequeño sand cachitos are so yummy, the cocada and chicha too!

Yelp
i am obsessed with tequenos, especially guava and cheese ones! i think it is such a great idea that they made this little fast food restaurant with such a variety of them. From salty to sweet you can definitely satisfy your cravings here. Not the best guava and cheese one i have had but its not bad. The gouda cheese and ham one is delicious and the chocolate one good but a bit too sweet if you eat the whole thing, i recommend sharing that one with someone. They also have little boxes where there original cheese tequenos come frozen so you can make them at home, i thought that was an excellent idea. They also have this drink called a cocadas which is like a coconut milk drink with coconut shavings in it, its pretty good. Not as good as if you were drinking a pina colada but it'll do.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor if you're a chocolate lover and order the chocolate tequeños RIGHT NOW!!!

Yelp
My daughter's favorite fast food restaurant. Tequeño Mania has a variety of delicious Venezuelan Tequenos filled with cheese, ground beef, jam, jam and cheese, dulce de leche, chocolate, pork, guava, guava and cheese, spinach and many more, as well as their tasty Cachitos. They also have cocadas ( coconut milk drink ) and malta (but the Polar one :) As a Venezuelan I can tell you that these are the best Tequeños I have tried in Miami so far, you should try the cheese one but be careful they are so fresh, perfectly made and juicy that you can not have just one, thats why I recommend you to have a sweet one for desert after, like the chocolate, although next time we will be getting the dulce de leche. Another must is their cafe con leche, nothing better than start your day with a Tequeño and a cafe con leche from Tequeño Mania!!

Yelp
Great spot to sit down and enjoy some tequeños and cachitos. The place is very clean and quiet. The food can be prepared right on the spot and the service is nice. The prices are reasonable and the sauces that go with the tequeños are delicious.

Yelp
TERRIBLE SERVICIO.

Yelp
DELICIOUS Tequeños! Love love love this place, a bit over priced but other than that everything is delicious. Recommend to anyone and everyone. Their garlic sauce is my favorite but you do have to pay extra...

Yelp
Tattoo artists may look like gangbangers but mostly they're divas. In order to see Cato from Marked 4 Life, an expert in ethnic tattoo designs, I had to get an endorsement from his boss, pay in advance, and take whatever appointment he gave me. There was only one slot available and it was at 8am on a weekday. Of course I almost missed my appointment. I had to drive to the edge of the civilized world, West Kendall, it was raining and people were driving like they were in bumper cars at the Dade County Youth Fair. I skipped the most important meal of the day and two hours into my session my stomach started growling like Godzilla. I think he was actually losing his concentration because of my talkative stomach. He also finished the second part of my chest piece in an 1 1/2 hours when the first half took almost 2 1/2. He must've been desperate to get me out of there. I know I was desperate to eat, so I stopped at my closest Yelp Bookmark on my way out of WeKe...Tequeño Mania, that serves Venezuelan-style fried cheese sticks. The Mania part of the name is true, it's crazy in there. It shares the location with a Bill Pay/Check Cashing/Envios to (insert Latin American country). There was a customer with 3 babies in tow losing it in there. She was complaining about late fees and how her husband had just been deported by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). I gave her the $2 she was missing, not because I'm a Good Samaritan, but because my hunger headache couldn't take another second of her 'pleito'. Here's what cured it -- Gouda - the Dutch would shake their heads in disgust if they ever had this. Basically a string cheese wrapped in dough that didn't melt during frying. Spinach 'n Cheese - so this is where Chili's leftover spinach-artichoke dip goes... Coconut 'n Cheese - shredded coconut makes me cough so I don't know what I was expecting but it's a lot like melting mozzarella on an Almond Joy. Guava 'n Cheese - one of those flavors I get homesick for when I leave Miami. I will extend this treat's visa indefinitely. Cachito de Chorizo - The sausage in the middle tasted like it was equal parts hoof, spice and grease. Maná definitely wasn't singing about this South American bagel-dog in their unplugged hit 'Cachito'. Frozen Chicha - drinkable rice pudding sweetened with condensed milk and spiced with cinnamon. If I lived any closer I'd be a 'ChupaChicha' that raided their stash daily. Check out how it's traditionally made in this episode of Brew Masters -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fcf8WUB33hg Don't worry commercially available chicha uses the synthetic enzyme ptyalin and goes through the pasteurization process. I walked out of there like Edward Tequeñoshands with five doughy cheese sticks but I'd only go back for two of them and the drinks. The dough is too dry from rotating on 7-11 style spits, the fillings tend to be salty and lukewarm at best. Tequeño Mania. should take a page out of European Corner's book and use a Baño María method to keep their product moist, the filling hot and customers happy. http://www.yelp.com/biz/european-corner-south-miami

Yelp
A Venezuelan tequeño (cheese sticks aka deditos de queso) shop, pretty much - and with various stuffings (which is not traditional, but still a good idea). Stuffings include carne mechada (shredded beef), chicken, spinach, ham & cheese, guava & cream cheese, caramel, and chocolate. The dough is good and homemade on the spot, which makes for good tasting tequeños. But they still use a different dough from the tequeños that I love - at European Corner in South Miami. I've learned by now that the dough for the tequeños they have here are the typical kinds you can find elsewhere in Miami. But compared with the similar type of tequeños, these rank well above average. With the various stuffings they have here for the tequeños, I wouldn't mind coming back! Just skip the original (cheese only) for something more unique although the cheese ones were tasty with the sauces (30 cents more). Prices were very affordable, and they even have combos. Sodas, coffee, cachitos, chicha (tasty! recommended) are also available here.

Neha G.

Yelp
Really nice little cafe, there weren't too many people while I was here and everything was really clean. Everyone working was incredibly nice and helpful as well. There was such a good variety of tequeños from sweet to savory, and everything that we ordered tasted really fresh. I would definitely visit again!
google avatar

Danielle P.

Yelp
Delicious!!! Best tequeños in Miami. The original cheese ones dipped in guava sauce are the best! A must try. The cafe con leche is also amazing. Growing up I would always see the "Tequeño Mania!" Sign on the turn pike, it's no surprise that they've been around for years! Simply delicious.
google avatar

Felipe Z.

Yelp
How badly do you want Venezuelan food? Can you drive a little further? Do so! This place is overpriced and usually empty. With so many options for a good tequeño eating here does not feel inviting in anyway unless you're getting your car serviced next door. Their menu mainly consists of tequeños of various fillings. Other options are not recommended lets just say its not their specialty. I won't completely disregard this place but definitely not a place I see myself visiting anytime soon due to the many other options in the area that offer a more enjoyable dine in experience at cheaper prices.
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
Such a great variety!! From salty to sweet and everything in between. Love their chicken, chorizo, and ham & cheese tequenos. They also have these frozen boxes so you can do them at home! If you're in the area, definitely stop by.
google avatar

Luisa T.

Yelp
Best original tequenos. Try the Hawaiian for a mix of sweet and salty.the Gouda ham is also good.
google avatar

Jess G.

Yelp
I love tequeños just as much as I love cheese sticks so I pretty much scout them out wherever I go. This place has an assorted variety of fillings that you probably won't get elsewhere because most places only serve regular cheese-filled tequeños. On this trip I had the regular cheese as well as the Hawaiian version with ham and pineapple but other varieties there included spinach or pizza. They also have Gouda cheese if you want to be a bit fancier or go the sweet route with a guava/cheese version. Also, the name might suggest they only serve tequeños but they also had cachitos there. I usually opt for ham but they were out so between chorizo or chicken, I went for the latter. Looking back I'd forgo this option next time but that's not to say it was bad; it was more of a one and done deal. Don't miss out on the frozen chicha! With some added condensed milk and cinnamon you'll be in heaven in no time.

Vanessa C.

Yelp
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, the women at front is so lazy, she doesn't enjoy her job. It was my first time in this place and I WILL NOT COME BACK, what a bad experience.
google avatar

Aggy O.

Yelp
Tequeno Mania owns a little piece of my heart. Try the Chicken Tequeno. ENOUGH SAID!! Although I recommend going when the store opens or during lunch time. Sometimes they have old tequenos that have been there since the time they open I think.. :/
google avatar

Marivict C.

Yelp
The service is good and the tequeño variety is out of this world. I always bought a box of tequeños and brought it back with me to NYC. It was a hit amongst my friends. Keep doing what you're doing!
google avatar

Ana Cristina P.

Yelp
I agree with Jordan that the dough is not the same as the one I love so much for these little things...But I have to say they're pretty tasty nonetheless. The place is hard to miss, as it is a little hole in the wall next to a rather large Jiffy Lube, but once you find it you'll be glad you did. The menu isn't filled with much, just tequenos and cachitos (which I guess I'd describe as the venezuelan version of a calzone maybe?) with your choice of soda, cafe con leche, or chicha (mmm yummy venezuelan rice drink that tastes like arroz con leche in beverage form). I particularly enjoyed the chicken tequenos, and of course you can never go wrong with the traditional cheese ones. And oh yea, you can buy them frozen in bulk so you can have them fresh at home whenever you want!
google avatar

Virginia M.

Yelp
Salami and cheese tequeno is where it is at people! Great and friendly service and this tequeno...oh Lord it was delicious! Not stopping by here when I'm on this route is definitely going to be a tough one. Yes, there is a western union right inside it next to where your tequenos are but you won't even notice after you're eating one of them. My boyfriend had the tequenobono which is a combination of tequeno shape with pan de bono taste. SO YUMMY! I'm a lover of tequenos and this place definitely has become a favorite!
google avatar

Annie A.

Yelp
It's on the way to FIU for me which I love and it's way cheaper and better than the tequeños that FIU sells. It's in a rinky dink area between a gas station and car shop but I've learned that these places are the true hidden gems in Kendall. The service is EXTREMELY friendly (for the times I've come it's always the same sweet lady serving me). I don't think they have any bad tequeños, just ones that are better than others. Next time I go I'll remember to take pictures before I devour the tequeños.
google avatar

Angel B.

Yelp
awesome? Tequeño, Chicha, etc... A to-go box so that you can make them at home (50 for $25) is not bad at all..

Ax M.

Yelp
I always liked Tequeños from the first day I tried them, but since I visited these Tequeños little cafeteria I became a fanatic. What a treat!!!! Super fresh, well made making the experience of eating them unique. The attention was very nice. I feel sad that it is far from my home but I will visit them again.
google avatar

Daniel P.

Yelp
Last time I was in here , it was a tiny place with a western union inside. I came back and was impressed of how much bigger they are without the western union inside. They have tables where you can enjoy your Tequeño . They have a large selection of Tequeño choice and also sell you a box of their type of Tequeño so you can make at home.
google avatar

Danny P.

Yelp
Really good tequenos here, not that gas station or quick marts hardly any cheese tequenos. The cachitos which are small empanadas are delicious with good flavor.

Gustavo M.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed with this restaurant, thought I'd have better tequeños than your ordinary down the street bakery but not even close.. these were cold and didn't even have cheese inside them no cups of ice for customers either. All 3 of these tequeños were cold and seemed to had been sitting there all day..Great customer service from cashier though.
google avatar

Oliver G.

Yelp
Wow this place is super fast and awesome. The salty stuff like carne mechada chicken ect is the bomb. The dessert is ok not the best thats were they can improve. Oh and they definitely have to be fresh if not its not really worth it
google avatar

Matthew K.

Yelp
Please do yourself a favor & come to Tequeno Mania! Make sure to get the chorizo and the guava and cream cheese one as well. Absolutely delicious, great place to stop by real quick and get some delicious food.
google avatar

Michelle Z.

Yelp
greasy stuffed little cheese fingers that are a snack for on the go. I definitely can't see myself having these everyday.

Tesa P.

Yelp
What company would send refrigerated items via 3 day ground shipping? Tequenomania did, and they charged a small fortune on top of that. Check other websites before ordering. Better prices and same quality tequenos.
google avatar

Victor F.

Yelp
Love this place. Even though I prefer the traditional tequeño, their ham and cheese one is really good.

Micheal S.

Yelp
Tequenos were mediocre. The location is behind a gas station not a great location but it was clean inside. Nobody spoke english.
google avatar

Yessenia R.

Yelp
Tried it today for breakfast. Nice spot with good service and a great quick treat. I had the chorizo tequeno and the coco y queso tequeno with a cafe con leche. The chorizo tequeno was my favorite.
google avatar

Jonathan D.

Yelp
Its pretty cool that they are a cafeteria with different types of tequenos, really cool and ballsy. They have interesting twist on this classic midday snack, including Hawaiian, gouda and ham and chocolate-guava.
google avatar

Joaquin R.

Yelp
Best and most creative Tequenos in Miami. My favorites are the Ham & Gouda, & the Coconut

Yelp
Forget don pan this place is fantastic if you like tequenos and cachitos do not hesitate this place a try this is an establishment I will continue to come to because the idea is great and the execution is even better.
