Where to Find the Best Guacamole in Miami, Florida | Eater Miami

"Nestled in Sunset Harbour, this family-owned Mexican joint satisfies cravings for classic Mexican cuisine using abuelita’s recipes. Begin with a classic rendition of guacamole, featuring creamy Hass avocados mixed with tomatoes, onion, cilantro, and a spicy jalapeño kick, all paired with crisp, golden tortilla chips." - Alona Martinez

10 Best Miami Bars & Restaurants for Mexican Food & Margaritas | Eater

"Even though Tequiztlan is modern and industrial — think graffitied city flair with a dose of shabby chic — their food is all traditional. Just like at Taquiza, you can sample chapulines here. Another tasty option is the lengua, or beef tongue, a Oaxacan delicacy. Tequiztlan also has the usual tacos, like chorizo, pollo, and carne asada. Go old-school with your drink at Tequiztlan and order up a house margarita with Cazadores tequila and Tequiztlan’s margarita mix." - Vox Creative

My wife and I have been coming to this restaurant for months and it never disappoints. One of the few Mexican restaurants in Miami that we truly enjoy. Service is remarkable, food is amazing and fresh, and I highly recommend going for happy hour to get the best bang for your buck. Sunset Harbor has some expensive eateries, but this place is easily affordable and worth every penny.

Google
I have to say out of all the restaurants we tried this week on Miami Beach, this was our favorite and the best tasting. Would highly recommend. I have the 3 tacos with rice and beans on the side and it was very good. The food was very well seasoned and flavorful.

Google
Such a cute place with delicious food! The customer service was outstanding. Nicely decorated restaurant with moderate seating options. There is a TV by the bar to watch the games. The Happy Hour starts at 4pm during the week. It's on the menu and offers great small options to try a variety of dishes. The plantain dish was amazing! It was full of flavor in every bite. I wanted to order more!!! We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Google
Authentic, gourmet Mexican food served beautifully, with wonderful service. Craft cocktails and a tequila bar that rivals any. This is one of my favorite restaurants in any category.

Google
Absolutely wonderful place for family gatherings. We enjoy going to Tequiztlan weekly. Quality of food and service are top notch. Grateful for Felipe and how he takes care of our family when we go to the Tequiztlan.

Google
Love this place 🤩 my favorite dish are the steak tacos and i think they are having the best Michelada in town .. they offer also great lunch specials.. Philippe is always super attentive, perfect service as well 🙌

Google
I recently dined at Tequiztlan and was blown away by their Beef Tacos. The beef was seasoned to perfection, and the fresh toppings added a delightful crunch. Our server, Dulce, was attentive and ensured our dining experience was top-notch. Highly recommend!

I sat at the bar during happy hour and ordered the tacos and chips & guacamole. The margaritas were nice and priced amazingly well. Overall, a great experience!

Yelp
Every single item we ordered from the menu was fresh, homemade and incredible. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting. Decor is adorable. The service is top notch. They truly value customer service. Very happy. Will definitely come back.

Yelp
My partner and I visited here June 14th along with our pets and as soon as we walked in the place was breathtaking. I instantly loved the decorations, the dog statue at the entrance and the cherry blossom tree. This is a pet friendly restaurant which is something I really admired about this place. Usually a lot of restaurants pets are only allowed outside but here it was different, they were able to join us inside. Which made is a plus for us. When entering the restaurant , the staff and managers were having a pre-shift meeting. They had just fairly opened for the day and were prepping for their shift. We did have one server come up and visit us , took our drink order. Shortly after that, we didn't really know who our server was. The one whom initially took care of us, didn't visit us for about 30 minutes. So we did grab someone's attention to order and went ahead and ordered our apps. Overall the food was great and fresh, drinks were good for HH price. But I would not spend $16-19 on a drink for a regular day there.

Yelp
My third delicious meal here but the same takeaway each time. Fabulous space, gracious thoughtful service, fantastic food at fair price BUT, it's very very salty. Sad that they ruin near perfection with this epic fail. I live in LA, I spend great deal of time in Mexico. This is great Mexican food, it's just way too salty. Please, please - this is an easy fix. Last thought, adding a 22% tip is Obnoxious. Beyond over the line. STOP THIS STUPIDITY.

Yelp
Went here for my very first date with my love. The food was perfection. Chefs kiss! I love tacos and they definitely impressed me. The flavors of the tacos were delicious. Even the drinks were amazing, and very cute and creative. I love the little ducks they put on top of your drinks and the creative cups. I give the presentation an A+. The service was good too. The server was very attentive and the food came out at proper timing. I can't wait to come back here!

Yelp
Amazing fresh authentic Mexican food and servers well equipped to answer any menu questions in several languages. The drinks have a menu of their own. The decor is romantic in the evening because all of the candles, art work and cozy tables. Cool vibe and beautifully appointed with a Cherry Blossom tree and all. If you want amazing Mexican food on South Beach without the over priced parking this place has self parking building upstairs which is sooo reasonable and hassle free. It's on SoBe but tucked out the way and more of a locals place vibe. When know you know. Locals know where the goods are, hint hint. Take note check this place out.

Yelp
Tequiztlan is always good! We were looking for happy hour on a weekday with my boyfriend and decided to start the year at this place! Their happy hour is amazing! Weekdays from 4-7 pm including drinks and small bites! We started with some drinks, I ordered an Agua Fresca, hibiscus tea, and it was delicious! My boyfriend did take advantage of happy hour drinks and ordered a Miami Cartel, it was really good too! And creamy! Similar to a Piña Colada but not frozen. For bites, we ordered the Guamacole and it was delicious! If you are ordering the one from happy hour, make sure to let your server know is the one from happy hour since they also have the regular size one. Happy hour one is smaller but it also comes with salsa and delicious and fresh, tortilla chips. My boyfriend ordered the Tacos which were the daily selection they were carnitas and he loved them. We also ordered the Queso en Cazuela and it was so delicious! Three different types of cheeses in one plate! Including some fresh tortillas which the dough was out of this world! For dessert, we ordered the Churros Sandwich, and wow!!! It was like having churros with ice cream but as a sandwich! Soooo good!!! It was such a great experience, the restaurant is so beautiful and the service was great! We will definitely come back!

Yelp
I loved absolutely everything about this restaurant!! Besides the food being absolutely delicious, the aesthetic of the restaurant is so cool and they have great service! I went during Miami spice (I.e restaurant week) which was a great deal, but the food was so good that I've gone back twice since and ate from their regular menu! The chicken soup is an absolute must and I'd recommend a margarita if you are a drinker!

Yelp
My favorite Mexican restaurant in Miami! The place has a beautiful decor, it is an upscale Mexican concert with delicious food and amazing service. I had the chorizo & potato taco and carne asada taco, both deliciooouss. The esquites are yummy & the tres leches is to die for!
google avatar

Yelp
An elegant spot for elevated yet relaxed Mexican, Tequitzlan is worth the hike from South Beach. We stopped in for happy hour and enjoyed a couple of delicious Cadillac margaritas at their stunning bar, accented with beautiful Mexican pottery and handicrafts. Service was exceedingly friendly and we felt right at home. A perfect spot to kick off the weekend.

Yelp
Delicious tacos and drinks here. The shrimp tacos were delicious. The beef tacos were quite good too.

Yelp
Was in Miami on a girls trip & came across this place! The decor is so freaking cute! The Churro ice cream sandwich is what caught my eye when looking it up online! We were the first people there! Our waitress was nice & the service was good. I ordered the chicken burrito chimichanga style & it was good! The cocktail was good as well! The churros sandwich was good. I just wish the churros was a little softer. I'd definitely stop by again when in Miami!

Yelp
I wish I could give 6 stars. This has been one of the best restaurants I've been to. The vibe in here is GREAT. The atmosphere is laid back but the decor is elite. Frida everywhere. We love this. The music is subtle and a good mix of styles. I thank the Tequiztlan gods that the music isn't as wildly loud as the rest of the Miami restaurant scene. Vibes are immaculate. The service is GREAT. Everyone was very kind and attentive. I really appreciated our waitress's input when she said we were ordering a tonnn of food (did we eat it all? Yes. Was she impressed? Maybe. Probably a little disgusted. I was too.) Her recommendations were really tasty. For drinks we had the kiss kiss bang bang and it was INCREDIBLE. Super spicy and sweet. My boyfriend had the taco dirty and it was nice for those who don't like sweet drinks. Wasn't my jam. The drinks came with a really cute "never have I ever" card which was a really fun touch. The food. THE FOOD. I cannot rave enough. My boyfriend spent half of the meal processing how good the food was. Our absolute favorite thing that we had that I could eat every day for the rest of my life was the tlayuda. It was insanely good. We also got three tacos. The cochinita was incredible. It was so juicy and flavorful. The lengua was the most tender lengua i have ever had. I loved the mushroom tacos too, but definitely only get them if you love mushrooms. On top of that we got the consome de pollo which was really homey and good. My boyfriend said it tasted like his grandma's soup. Theeenn we got the tamale. It was good, but not my favorite thing we had. Then we had (y'all I told you, we ordered an alarming amount of food) the Plato Mexicano. I almost had to tap out at this point, but the food was so good I ate myself out of breath. We ended the meal with the sopapilla and it was really yummy. They give you a ton of food, we were surprised at home generous the portions were. To be honest, we ordered SO MUCH I expected the bill to tots much more. 11/10 recommend this place. We will be regulars now.

Yelp
I recently discovered this restaurant and it is one of my new absolute favorites. It's not a cheap taco spot, but a beautifully decorated Mexican restaurant with really really delicious food. I've been here for both their new happy hour and for a Miami Spice dinner, and had the same favorite dish both times. The platanos rellenos with roasted pork are absolutely SO delicious! I'm not even the worlds biggest platano fan and I just LOVE this dish! Their margaritas are also delicious, and they have a huge tequila selection. I see myself coming here often!
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant! The food is delicious and so authentically Mexican. We ordered taquitos and fajitas which were great and even better with their home made sour cream on top. If they sold their sour cream and salsas, I would have my fridge stocked with it. The mango and strawberry mojitos were yummy and came with a cute rubber duck. We dined al fresco, but when I went inside I noticed how thoughtful all of the decor is laid out, from a Frida painting to neon signs with fun sayings to the oversized Catrin skulls. Took some flan to go, and this was also tasty. Will definitely be back again.

Yelp
Impressed! That is my one word to describe the entire experience. My wife loves Mexican cuisine and for her birthday I wanted to take her to a place we never been before. We were impressed with the decor, service, food and drinks. Drinks were great but on the pricey side. The food was great, from the appetizers to the main dishes and desserts. And the best part was the service. Very attentive and honest feedback when asking for recommendations. The margaritas Hija de la Guayaba (Guava and Jalapeño) and Spicy Rooster (Casamigos with jalapeño) were fantastic, again these will set you back almost $20 each (with tax and tip). The guacamole was very well done. The tacos selection was great. My favorites were the tacos of cochinita pibil and lengua. The grilled mahi mahi was also a good taco. My wife got the colossal shrimp fajitas and the shrimp where seriously huge and buttery delicious. Someone at the table ordered the Tampiqueña, which is a Charcoal-grilled Angus flap Steak Served with Yellow Rice, Slow roasted & pulled chicken Enchilada, Frijoles Charros & pan-seared Grilled Cheese. It must have been good because nothing was left from that plate. The desserts were really good, I recommend trying the 3 Leches or the churros sandwich. The flan was good tasting but not as creamy as it was expected. This is definitely a place to try, as it is very enjoyable from the actual decoration to the food and service. Will be definitely be going back because there was only so much we could try and there is a lot more in that menu! One last note! Great for families and kids. The place has a very relaxed and chilled vibe.

Yelp
I keep exploring the places for happy hour! And this one is a pretty good one. $8 wines around $10 appetizers, it's not bad for that fancy area! Inside the decor is absolutely amazing, owners have pretty good taste! Bartender was pretty attentive too even that he couldn't explain very good the items from the menu in English. I ordered some wine and melted cheese it was pretty good and great presentation! I went there with my dog and they gave me a small paper how the dog should behave inside and in general it's common sense so we didn't have any problems. And a good thing is that happy hour there is every day! 3 to 7

Yelp
2/5- this one is not positive unfortunately. Came here to sit down and have an early dinner / happy hour (which they dont have btw) with the family. Ordered some fries (for the kids) and a salsa as appetizer while drinking a cold one. The goal was to order food for the family - but this service lacked of any positive performance, not from the staff and not from the food. We payed for this and decided to go eat somewhere else - most likely wont return which is a shame seeing the positive comments. Venue inside looked pretty cool though - therefor the 2 stars.

Yelp
We walked in to this restaurant with 2 minutes before Happy Hour ended. The hostess told us we were too late that they already called 'last rounds.' We were frantic for a discounted margarita and so sad until our waiter, Angel came to save the day. Angel, honored our happy hour margaritas deal--but not only that---he makes this restaurant a 5 star experience. I would give him 10 stars if I could! Food was great--we had elote, tacos, guacamole , chips, and of course the BEST strongest margaritas ever. This restaurant was full of repeat customer locals and has beautiful decor. If you are an old school South Beach resident you will know it by its other name--El Rancho Grande from back in the days. The days of free chips and salsa are over; however, their salsa is on point. We loved the experience but honestly would have left if it wasn't for our Angel!! That man needs a raise!! He's the best.

Yelp
This place is amazing and I hope it sticks around for a long time. I think it's my favorite Mexican restaurant on Miami Beach. The food is ridiculous. Everything we ordered is Everything! Great miami spice menu! Service is great. Very cool local vibes. Love it. Will keep coming back for sure
google avatar

Yelp
Totally cool. Friendly staff. Delicious food. We ordered several items and they were all superbly prepared. Good ambiance, nice decor, a little dark but we had a great time there.

Yelp
Best Mexican food on south beach! Dog friendly too! We loved it The service here is amazing! Ask for Felipe or Summer Steph

Yelp
We are OBSESSED with this spot! It is our favorite Mexican spot in Miami hands down. The food and vibes are excellent! The resturant is very clean and the decor inside is very tasteful. The staff are so very friendly and very attentive! The guacamole is a must order - it is so fresh and comes with an adorable serving spoon! The Chili Relleno and Steak Fajitas are also delicious. We love taking our visitors here for their food and amazing drinks (we like the Spicy Rooster)! There is street parking and parking garages around the area. You don't need a reservation - they have plenty of seating!
google avatar

JD G.

Yelp
Their menu is full of authentic Mexican dishes. I really enjoyed it. Drinks are on point, and the service very attentive and ready to help out whenever needed. My second time coming to this place, and I'll keep on coming back for more.

Yelp
Lovely for a casual evening! This beautiful place is one of a kind in the sunset harbour area. Food is always good, super tasty and fresh. This time we're a party of 3 so we decide to share some dishes like their nachos y guacamole (one of my favourites), melt cheese and tortillas and of course their churros (soooo good). It's a good place to meet up with your friends for a chit chat ,to bring your family to a Mexican night out or lunch. I super recommend it. Service is always good. Attentive staff. Public parking available Pet friendly
google avatar

Jeanne R.

Yelp
I came during happy hour and ordered the fresh fresh baby margarita, happy hour bites chimichangas, Chips and guacamole, Tortilla soup with chicken. Everything was delicious accept the chimichanga bites dough wasn't done and tasted like a egg roll shell instead of a flour tortilla fried.
google avatar

Steph H.

Yelp
Really wanted to love this place after reading some reviews. Overall it was okay. Tried the 3 salsas with chips. Small portion. The habanero salsa did pick up heat as you ate it but not too spicy. The medium salsa had really good flavor. Chile Relleno had some meat in it that seemed grainy. The mole and barbacoa were overly salty. Refried beans were black beans which was a pleasant surprise. Tortillas were hot and delicious! Hubby had the steak and felt it was good, nothing that stood out. Food is overpriced for servings. We got there about 5 pm on a Saturday and it was pretty quiet and slow. It is very dark inside and was relaxing with some fun signs and decor.
google avatar

Vanessa J.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this hidden gem this past weekend. And I must say we were extremely impressed from the time we got our drinks to our appetizers and to our main entree. I had the mahi mai, shrimp, and salmon tacos which was so good and flavorful. I definitely recommend the taquitos and polanco (hope I'm spelling the drink name correctly). If you enjoy fruity drinks it comes with a popsicle inside and it was amazing. After two of those it had me feeling right. SN: you can ask for the drink without the popsicle. The noise level was just right if you there on a lunch/dinner date. The service was speedy and our waiter gave us great recommendations that were tailored to our liking.
google avatar

Sandi T.

Yelp
Our family (fun, cool people ) has been eating here for decades. The newer location (Sunset) is stylish and everything you want in an upscale Mexican restaurant. The best guacamole, cocktails (try the mango margarita) and fresh, grilled ingredients. This place is a staple for our family and friends and a local favorite.the bar is extensive, the weekend DJ super talented. A great place for private or group events....yum!! love Sandi
google avatar

Joey B.

Yelp
For context.. I'm originally from Dallas, Texas. This is, by far, the best Mexican restaurant I've discovered since moving to South Beach nearly 10 years ago. If you're looking for a real margarita, try the vieja ricachona. Came hungry? Try tampiquena steak, with a side of rajas poblanas, my favorite dish. As of October 2022, they can deliver to most places in South Beach via the Toast Takeout app.
google avatar

Olivia C.

Yelp
My favorite Mexican food. So delicious. The food is authentic and the staff are all so nice. Nachos are the best. Stephanie takes such good care of us every time. Highly recommend!

Patrick J.

Yelp
I'm USA business frequent traveler and always check Yelp first. My wife was with me at a conference in Miami. The place we wanted to go wasn't opened yet. Randomly came in for a happy hour drink. Tried a few food items off the happy hour menu. Huarachi and Plantanos Rellano. The flavors were awesome. I ordered another round of the Plantanos. Perfect balance of the sweet underneath some bold braised pork. My wife who is a margarita snob approves this message. I had an excellent old fashion, hold the tequila. If happy hour is any indication of dinner you're in for a treat.

Deborah B.

Yelp
Our second visit did not disappoint. Food is excellent with great service. Chips, salsa and queso were great to start off with classic margaritas. Lots to choose from on menu and easy to sub out ingredients. Nice ambiance. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
What an amazing hidden spot! I came here with some work colleagues and I fell in love with the vibe from the moment I walked into this establishment! The decor all over is so amazing and authentic that I could not get enough of it! From the beloved characters of Chespirito, to the entrance neon sign that says, "no time for pendejos", the amazing bar to the Freda wall! We all started off with the guacamole and chips along with the ceviche tequiz which were so delicious! The ahi maki and shrimp in the ceviche was so good I'm still dreaming of it! For drinks I ordered the manguera and polanco and boy they did not disappoint! They were so good if I wasn't driving, I would have ordered some more. As an entree I ordered the enchilada poblanas and it was so good I cleaned the plate clean! You truly can't go wrong with their in general. I plan to come back soon and try out some other dishes and desserts!

Maggy J.

Yelp
Food, service And atmosphere are great. Went twice in a week and the waitresses are really nice, attentive and welcoming. My partner loves spicy margarita and she wasn't disappointed. The bartender did amazing drinks
google avatar

Alexander H.

Yelp
Burrito and tacos were BOMB. Service was fast. From Texas so I'm used to free chips and salsa at a Mexican place. It's $5 here. And we asked for more chips and salsa and it was $5 more. They didn't tell us. But that's probably our fault lol

M B.

Yelp
Solid Mexican food. You can tell the mole is homemade. The spicy marg felt a little off. As far as food, overall everything was good and authentic. Will be back to try more things out. It's hard to find good Mexican in Miami and this is probably as good as it gets.

Dominic B.

Yelp
service was terrible, prices were outrageous for very small portions. food was mediocre at best

Billie G.

Yelp
Authentic and fun. Service, food and ambiance makes this an enjoyable experience. Family friendly.
google avatar

Alfredo H.

Yelp
Excellent Food and great service , the restaurant has a nice vibe. Don't miss out going there.
google avatar

Angela N.

Yelp
I have to say - I was pleasantly surprised. I've passed this restaurant many times while in town and just never considered dining there & tbh - I don't think I've ever had Mexican food in Miami. We were looking for something casual on a rainy Saturday and was feeling margaritas so we stopped in. Service was fantastic and my favorite item was the guacamole and chips. I probably could have eaten two bowls of it. The margaritas and (chicken) fajitas were good - all of the food was fresh. Def hit the spot and I will be coming back.
google avatar

Luiz C.

Yelp
We went for Miami Spice lunch and everything was outstanding. The carnitas were amazing, tender, tasty, and with just the right crisp. Carne assada and Al pastor we're just as delicious. Don't skip desert! Worth every calorie. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Kendra M.

Yelp
I went here for a birthday party and it just happened to be the 10th anniversary. I loved the ambiance when I walked in. It gave the feel of privacy, even though the place was full. I thought the food would be Tex Mex, but it is authentic Mexican cuisine, the guacamole is fresh and flavorful. My favorite margarita was the strawberry basil, that comes with a nice surprise. I'm not really into desserts, but the churro was made in house and delicious.
google avatar

Sean E.

Yelp
I loved the Tequiztlan! The ambiance is nice with light music in the background. The service was amazing, very attentive and personable. The food was freshly made and you got to taste their homemade sour cream!! The tres leches I will be back for again because it was that good. Definitely recommend coming whether it's for a lunch date or a family dinner time.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Excellent Mexican food and a fun, vibrant atmosphere! Would highly recommend! The guacamole, salsa, and chips are amazing. The fried ice cream is a great way to end your evening.
google avatar

Nicki R.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and service and food have all been amazing! I came most recently for Cinco de Mayo and it did not disappoint! They were well prepared and organized for the craziness that the day brings. A slightly limited but very abundant menu... food obviously flavorful, authentic, and plentiful. They increased outside seating to the street and included a bar cart for people to get drinks while waiting for a table. The wait was not very long, which was astonishing. So well handled! A huge shout out to the managers and staff that kept the machine working so perfectly! We sat outside, as the bar was packed. Bathrooms were very clean and staff was greeting everyone as they walked in or even just by! Drinks of course were on point! Nom nom nom!! The marachi band was a great hit too! The staff here really make their customers feel welcome and at home! I highly recommend visiting from anyone local to out of towners... one of the few places you can get real, good, Mexican food in and around Miami
google avatar

Carolina C.

Yelp
The reason I gave them 3 stars was because no one welcomed us in, we had to wait a while to be greeted and seated and I felt the food lacked in flavors. I came to this restaurant years ago and I remember feeling like they lacked something and decided to give them another try. The decorations were unique and great. We had the torta de carnitas and i felt it was missing a lot of flavor. It definitely has a nice ambiance. Parking is tough to find. We went on a Wednesday night and it was raining and still had a hard time with parking. The waitress we had from the bar was so kind and friendly. She brought us water right away and was extremely attentive.

Jenn D.

Yelp
Service is horrible. Steak was dry and overcooked. And none of the staff seem to care. It's disappointing because I used to come here all the time. I don't know what happened in the last few months. It is customary to ask your patrons how their food is after it's been brought to the table. Especially when it's steak. And the worst thing you can do is make your patrons wait 15 minutes + for a drink, or to pay their bill. Hospitality 101.
