"It’s refreshingly unexpected that such a hip and immaculately turned out restaurant would call the largely tourist-packed Centrum home—though you’ll be grateful it’s there come dinner after a day of doing touristy things. The French/Asian menu is heavy on street food—spring rolls, fish cakes, dim sum—and the piping hot, delightfully flavorful pho broth is heavenly in the colder months. There’s a bar on the ground level, but you can get your booze on at dinner, too: ask for the house-made iced tea spiked. Trust."

Yelp
We actually came here sometime around mid-afternoon when the restraunt actually turns into Tinner, which primarily serves brunch fare. The poor waiter was absolutely slammed working on so many tables, no doubt before a flood of tourists had invaded the city for Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). I had the Tinner burger and wasn't that impressed. It was a standard burger that could've used more flair (caramelized red onion perhaps?). My SO has the chicken club, which was filled with thick slices of chicken thigh that were exceptionally tender and juicy, meaning not over cooked. Throw a side of the truffle fries to share and some mimosas on the side, it was definitely a more than satisfying brunch.

Yelp
Another one of my hidden gems. Ready to blow up at anytime and betray my inside knowledge and love. I come for the drinks. Stay for the food. And enjoy the staff, who always seem to laugh at me in the right kind of way.

Yelp
I went here for WijnSpijs. It may be unfair to judge a place based on an event, but the fact is this is an opportunity for a restaurant to showcase their talents and drive home an incentive for people to return. Unfortunately Terpentijn failed in all regards. Today, there is only one dish to make. That's it. It's not complicated or rocket science. I had a vantage point to the kitchen which only made my teeth grind as I could see the dish was nothing more than a salad with a sprinkling of something, and a pinch of something else. Yet the chef was so nonchalant going about his business that it was no wonder the place was overflowing as no one was getting their food. Attending this event for the 5th time, I can accurately estimate that any given restaurant will produce their dish within 5 to 10 minutes max. Terpentijn took more time than all the other restaurants combined (there were 6 in total.) My annoyance was brought to a boil when I realized that dishes were now randomly handed out to people who arrived well after us. After 45 minutes of waiting and no food, we just left. I'd rather drink turpentine than set foot in this place again.

Yelp
Just fair. Limited menu with a few decent options. Burger was the best thing. It's alright not great.

Yelp
There is no doubt about it: this place will deliver top of the chart on every aspect, and do so at a reasonable price. You could qualify Terpentijn into the current Bistronomie movement, but hat would not do it justice. More than that however, I'd say it should be in the Michelin star (or at least bib gourmande) range. Sublime, qualified flavours, attentive and down to earth service, good wines and intimate enough decor to enjoy a night together or in a group. Definetely a place you may want je to frequent from time to time.

Yelp
Nice accidental find. Interesting array of little bites to choose from with a nice full bar

Yelp
We hired the room upstairs for our party. Furthermore, they ask a bar turnover of 1.000 so you would expect they have enough stock to deliver this. Moreover, the party started at 20.00 and at 22.00 all the beer was already finished! We discussed a beer price of 3,- for each beer and they only could offer us beer that was way more expensive. In addition, the manager blamed us for all of this and it was a really uncomfortable and inappropriate situation. We had to leave earlier and our party was ruined.

Yelp
Cute local, trendy place. It was packed when we went. Food was tasty but small menu and it had just changed.

Yelp
I met a friend for drinks in the very cosy bar downstairs, where one drink led to another and (SO good!) yet another. Excellent cocktails and ambience, an evening to remember (despite the three cocktails).

Yelp
Took a recommendation from NY Times and and glad I chose this spot to dine alone my first night in Amsterdam. Upstairs is the full menu and more "formal" dining room and downstairs serves "street food" and is a bit more casual; I chose downstairs. Cool spot with a fun vibe and perfectly loud and lively. It was about 75% full with after work buddies and locals coming in from shopping, so eating alone was totally comfortable. It's a get together type of place, rather than romantic. Food was tasty and asian inspired, servers were busy but friendly. Also, all of the servers and bartenders are very super cute Dutch men. Just saying.

Yelp
So I am not easily impressed by a menu and I usually find it quite easy to decide what dish I prefer to the others on the menu, but at Terpentijn I basicaslly just wanted to try everything because it all seemed so great. I went for the Very Veggie Cury (you can order the lunch or dinner version) and it is super delicious! I went back to try asian style steak tartare and it's amazing. I also went there for a Friday night cocktail event and the bar has a really nice vibe, with people standing outside when the weather is good. I am definitely going here more often.

Yelp
Pro's: Really like the space and design. Friendly staff. Interesting selection. I met a new friend here for coffee/tea, and arrived early for a sandwich, which was pretty good, but I've definitely had better. Would return and try some other menu items and consider a 4th star, though.
