The Best Bars In Harlem

"Paris Blue first opened in 1968, and they have hosted jazz shows there almost every night since. It’s fully a dive bar (if you order anything with liquor, it may come in a plastic cup), but unlike most dive bars, Paris Blues has amazing nightly performances without any covers, as well as tons of framed portraits of famous musicians who have performed there and may or may not haunt the bar to this day." - hannah albertine, bryan kim

Great place! Awesome musicians. We had a blast Tickets are $20 cash No food inside. Only drinks. Huge selection of whiskey and bourbon. A few beers and drinks. It was super crowded and a bit hot tonight. But after an hour or so, they realised and turned the ac on

Google
No food, just drinks—but you’re really here for the music. The blues vibes at Terra Blues are ridiculously unique and soulful. Intimate setting, talented musicians, and that raw, nostalgic energy that hits you deep. A true NYC gem for live blues lovers ❤️❤️

Ema Klimaite

Google
Love this place! Great Blues till 3am, multiple sessions and you can stay all night long with your $20 entry ticket. Huge selection of whiskeys! So just sit an enjoy! Didn’t have food, but whiskey and atmosphere was 5 stars.

Google
It's been a long time since I came here and I'm glad I came back. I love me some blues especially blues with harmonica and I just came in at random cuz I was up on midtown doing something else and I came in here afterwards cuz I thought about this place and like I said I haven't been here in a long time. Caught a good band met a couple of people at the bar. Service was good, music was great. Very glad I came. Be warned the space is a little bit tight but this is Manhattan. You probably already knew it wouldn't be the size of a football field.

Google
I love the place. I was there recently and it was a beautiful night! The acoustic Blues session was great, the artists were great and the people there are friendly and fun. I want to go back again.

Adrian K.

Google
One of the best nightlife attractions in New York. The Pioneers and Hubby Jenkins gave what I was looking for when visiting the city. I also highly recommend it to bourbon lovers. It would be worth coming from Poland for this one evening.

Bob Rea

Google
Cool place to hear some live music. The beer was cold, the service was great. They've got an extensive bourbon list. We didn't have any food, so not sure about that.

George Mais

Google
Had a great time. Made a reservation for 630 when they open. It's a twenty dollar cash door charge, when you get your tickets they are good for re-entry for the night. We got the whiskey fly, which is 3 shots of whiskey a beer and olives.

Yelp
I love the cozy and intimate vibe here. The Michael Hill Trio were so sweet, charming, and amazing!
google avatar

Zaina H.

Yelp
There is live blues every night at 7pm and 10pm. It's an intimate scene, there's a $10 cover charge, they offer whiskey, beer, olives and nuts for snacks. I saw SaRon Crenshaw who is a soulful artist and performer. You can feel the inspiration from B.B. King and Albert King who are some of my favorites. This place is semi-touristy, and I heard they don't strictly play blues but change it up at times. Despite, I had a pleasant experience.

Craig U.

Yelp
Best blues bar in NYC. Good enough to thrive in Chicago! Best selection of whiskey I have seen anywhere in the world. Excellent bar tender! Very reasonable prices.
google avatar

Maya F.

Yelp
Really great ambiance here. Email ahead of time to guarantee a table. Amazing service, good drinks, great music. Had fun enjoying dinner in the WV and walking over for drinks. Cover $10 on the weeknights.
google avatar

Justin B.

Yelp
Saw the eight o'clock show, mellower (which was good with the crowd). But it also got us a seat - which was great. Good poors, great service, and the $20 cover was for the full night. Have not had better live blues outside of New Orleans. The room is cozy, and fills with people. Which is why getting there earlier is recommended.

Yelp
I was on the fence about what live music bar I should visit while in NY and I'm so glad I chose terra blues! the music was amazing, the place is definitely cozy so either come in early to snag a seat or be prepared to stand. The band was the main event for us so as far as drinks we had beers and they were reasonably priced.

Yelp
An absolute gem of a piece I am glad we found in New York. Service was exceptional, the live jazz music was astounding... felt like I was being transported back in time. The bouncer, the servers, the music, and the drinks all created a little slice of heaven for us. Highly recommending this place to all of my friends!!!

Hugh H.

Yelp
Great find for a Sunday night blues fan. Pioneers were the real deal, and we're so glad we went.
google avatar

Harlan S.

Yelp
Pro tip. Great for dates. Great venue, and better music. For live music lovers I cannot recommend them highly enough.
google avatar

Nick K.

Yelp
I have been here many times over many years, but finally writing a review. I can't say enough good things about Terra Blues. I went tonight and sat at the bar (Sarah at the bar was fantastic!), and I had an amazing time seeing Doc French and Seydura! I'm planning to come back tomorrow!
google avatar

Ludo R.

Yelp
I really liked the venue. My cocktail was decent. The musicians were good on the night we went but a little past their prime. Our server was super nice and accommodating. She wins the star of the show award.
google avatar

Les M.

Yelp
This was our first visit to Terra Blues. The entertainment was top notch and a great time was had. The service was also very good. We will definitely make Terra Blues a "go to" on our quarterly visits to NY. If there was one negative, I'd mention that the noise level from loud conversations in the bar area was distracting for those who came to hear the music.

Alec A.

Yelp
Best live music venue in the city without a doubt. Excellent whiskey selection and bartenders with good recs. Scott runs the spot right to enjoy the sets and Seti's a legendary mascot. Don't miss the SaRon Crenshaw band.
google avatar

Delilah B.

Yelp
Amazing NY experience, service was great, JR Mack was a pleasure to listen to as well as so friendly and personable as I walked near him and he talked with me. I will be back when the world gets more normal.

Dennis M.

Yelp
Nice place with a good music. However, this is a bar, not a restaurant. Make sure to eat before coming here.

Masha B.

Yelp
Great music! Amazing ambiance with good drinks. Service is decent. Only thing there is a 20 all cash cover.

Kevin E.

Yelp
One of my fav spots in NYC. Always try to go when I visit. The real deal when in comes to blues and a good drink
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
If you like Blues you really can't go wrong. Bring cash for the cover ($20), cards accepted for your drinks. Good service, good music, good beer, not much more to add.
google avatar

Dawn P.

Yelp
Perfect ambiance. I will be back! Food, music and and service were good. Thank you!

Yelp
- Blues bar - $20 cover charge on the weekend - Tried the Stillhouse Peach Tea Whiskey and various other ones that I forgot the names of - They have such an extensive list - Dark, intimate, and tight seating - Bar near the entrance - Small round tables and chairs near the stage - Saw groups of people and couples - Perfect date spot - Great service

Yelp
I found this place online and I was not disappointed. There was a single performer name Ray that was first and it was an acoustic set. His music was wonderful and his voice was lovely. The next was a band that I believe was five or six guys and they were all very towns and it was much more upbeat sort of danceable music. Our server was fantastic and exceptionally knowledgeable. They had a huge whiskey menu but also other cocktails and beer is for those who don't like whiskey. There is a cover charge in cash of $20 but it was completely worth it. We also made a reservation ahead of time for table to make sure we had a good spot for viewing the stage and listening to music.

Yelp
The best blues bar in the world! If you like music and an excellent warty of drinks, Terra Blues is the right place for you! Musik is always top noch. I like this place because of the atmosphere and lovely people.

Joanna C.

Yelp
Horrible service and music was terrible. Better to go to Zinc Bar which is a 2 minute walk than this lousy establishment.

Ailsa C.

Yelp
A really fun intimate atmosphere with a good selection of drinks. The music was great tonight! They do have small plates available. Bring cash for cover and to tip the artists.
google avatar

Troy D.

Yelp
Great music and vibe/atmosphere. Such a cool gem of a place. Been here a number of times, most recently this past weekend. Maybe it was an off night for the table waitress but she was not good. Looked disinterested...not welcoming or polite...forgot snacks and drinks we ordered only to disappear and come back to the table 15 minutes later to ask if we needed anything. We ended up leaving due to the service which was a shame since we had more money to spend and took it next door to the bitter end. Will we be back? Yes. Will we reserve a table? Hell no. The bar probably will provide better and more attentive service. Hopefully. If not then it was at least somewhat enjoyable while it lasted.

Yelp
We had so much fun listening to jazz after fireworks on July 4 this year! Huge liquor selection; my boyfriend could take his pick on types of whiskeys to have to enjoy the jazz with. Very cool atmosphere. The music was incredible. The performer was so fun with the audience and very engaging and talented. Would definitely recommend for a fun night.
google avatar

Yelp
My fav blues bar in the city! Small, intimate and classic. Great, heavy pours as well. Awesome spot for dates, groups or by yourself. There are 2 shows per night - 7 and 10 pm. Ray Schinnery is a legend and usually performs at 7pm. Such a great voice and very personable. Love the Pioneers for the 10pm slot. Expansive bourbon and whiskey selection
google avatar

Brian L.

Yelp
Such a spot! What a great little Jazz and Blues bar, live music and great cocktails! Cover is 20$ but worth every penny. Live Music till 3 AM. A treasure!

Gus E.

Yelp
Our first time at Terra Blues and the experience was great. Scott was awesome and made us feel like regulars. Staff was awesome as well. Great vibe and had a good time. Definitely will come back and visit..
google avatar

Yelp
Personally, 100% my vibes. GREAT MUSIC PERFORMERS. Southern blues vibes. I'd recommend this place to anyone

Yelp
Really chill place for live music and fun. I came here around 9pm on a Wednesday night and it wasn't too packed. $10 cover, which I thought was reasonable. They have an extensive alcohol menu (whiskey, wine, some beers, etc.) but no food! They sell peanuts/almonds though, which we were not interested in... the prices were just OK, and actually quite pricey for this area (e.g. $8 beers, $9-15 wines by the glass.) I didn't really like the first solo performer too much, but the band who performed second was pretty good! The only issue I had with this place was... between the first performer and the band that came up, there was about a 45 minute delay... I think they were setting up?! This was pretty frustrating because we weren't planning to stay all night. Overall, great value for a jazz bar but the performances are hit or miss. Not sure how busy it gets on weekends, but I would recommend coming here closer to 10-1030pm on weeknights. 3.5 stars.

Colin M.

Yelp
Great venue, lovely environment, good drinks, good live music, chill place to go! Esp if you have visitors in town. Cover charge at the door seems to be a little steep and seems to be getting higher every time we come back. But off putting. Aside from this, good venue... but pricey
google avatar

Francisco P.

Yelp
Very cool place. It feels like it has a lot of history because of all the pictures of blues artists on the walls, which have dates going back to the 90s. The musicians are talented and entertaining! The bar doesn't have much of a cocktail menu but they have a huge whiskey menu, probably 40 brands or more. There's a cover charge so it's a good idea to bring cash.

Catherine P.

Yelp
I almost did not go here because of remarks about the service, but I am glad I did. There was 1 person working the bar and 1 covering the table area. Normally that should be enough in a smallish area but in a bar everyone wants drinks IMMEDIATELY. And, when the music is done, everyone wants the check to be taken care of asap. I thought they did a pretty good job. The young lady behind the bar was super friendly and nice. She certainly hustled trying to accommodate everyone. The place itself is laid back, cool & the music was to die for. I didn't eat because there was only expensive snacks. Only 2 gender-designated bathrooms so their was a bit of a wait to use the ladies (something we are used to). Another negative - as I arrived, and proceeded to climb the steps to the 2nd floor establishment, a gentleman who I believe was the owner/manager saw me and said "hey young lady, are you coming in here?" I said yep. He said something to the effect that he was surprised at how nimble I was I found the comments to be a bit patronizing, sexist, and ageist. It's doubtful he would have said the same to a guy my age.
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
Loved, loved, loved this experience. Covee charge was well worth it. I climbed the stairs to discover this gem. While waiting for the band to start they played music by Freddie King and other greats! I got a table right away and was quickly taken care of by the waitress. The band was incredible! Saron Crenshaw was great ans created a fun and interactive experience for the audience. What a wonderful evening!

Demond L S.

Yelp
While visiting NY for a conference with my colleagues, we wanted to take in some live blues one evening after dinner. I thought about this place because my wife and I were here a couple of years before the pandemic and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. If you are open for great music and drinks, you have to visit Terra Blues in Greenwich Village. Also, the staff were very attentive and friendly. A MUST do!

Ina C.

Yelp
Good blues music. Cocktails not so good. Small and cozy place. Need to get there early to enjoy the band upfront.
google avatar

Holly N.

Yelp
I love this place. We visited from Chicago. The music was amazing. The setting is very intimate. The place was packed. Drinks were pricey and or server was a bit rude but overall I would definitely come back.
google avatar

Lindsay K.

Yelp
What a great music spot! My husband and I saw The Clarence Spady band last night. There is a $20 cover but it's so worth it. I recommend making reservations for a table upfront near the stage. We didn't have reservations but were able to snag a spot at the bar. The wine was really good there and they have a full bar. If like Sauvignon blanc, you'll love the one they have from Cotes de Gascogne
google avatar

Martin H.

Yelp
Really unprofessional of this establishment not to announce last-minute artist cancellations. I called on friday August 2nd inquiring about "The Michael Powers Frequency," performing that night in order to get accurate showtimes. There was an early show and a 10 pm show. Came downtown early that evening for dinner with friends than the show. Got to your place and the doorman gives me some cockamamie excuse about some "religious observance," on Michael Power's behalf. Y'all never even bothered to update your website regarding this cancellation. Get your act together,
google avatar

Colette H.

Yelp
Love Terra! I've been to so many shows there. They book such great talent! Great location, great atmosphere. It's never too crowded and you can always find a spot to sit. I can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Deb B.

Yelp
Nice venue, just minutes from the PATH to JC. 7 PM show means I dont fall asleep at the table. We are seeing the house band tonight, and the kick A! Great drinks (no food except for nuts), great music, great service and a clean bathroom. What more can one ask for?
google avatar

Melaina C.

Yelp
Wonderful Blues bar in Greenwich village! Swanky, dimly lit cool atmosphere with great blues music. Open late until 230am even on Sunday! Every time we come to NYC, we make a point to come here. Decent cover too - just $10.
google avatar

Amrita A.

Yelp
We came to Terra Blues very late on a Saturday night- around 2 am and there was no cover charge. The place was empty but the Jazz band was still going strong. We stuck around for a drink and loved every bit of our time here. Soft mellow and low key- unlike what the scene was over here few hours before. A great place to end our night.
google avatar

Avelino C.

Yelp
What a cool New York hangout. This place takes you back in time and makes you feel happy. The drinks are good, the music is good, the service is good and the vibe is good.
google avatar

Via G.

Yelp
Yes! Amen sistah! This place has the best bands and live music especially jazz & blues. The drinks are double pours so take it slow because the bartenders hook you up royally. There is a tremendous selection of whiskey/bourbon/rye. Live music here touches your core!! It is a must in NYC. If you want a table, get reservations. Otherwise you can hang at the bar with the cool bartenders and enjoy the music just the same.

Geesuss B.

Yelp
Pricing themselves right outta the game with $20 covers. Loved this place since "91, but a high cover won't sell drinks or bring in a crowd. Will miss it when it's gone.
google avatar

Marzena D.

Yelp
Four of us went to Terra Blues on a Saturday night. Thankfully my fiend booked us the table which in fairness was perfectly located but a bit of a squeeze. The atmosphere was very good. Be aware the place is very dark. Space gets very busy by the time the main act is on stage at 10pm. everyone seemed to have a great time including the musicians on stage! If you're into a soulful blues you will adore this place. Service is also very good! No good though apart from some nuts if I'm not mistaken so make sure you eat before coming to this magical place.
google avatar

Ian D.

Yelp
Terra Blues is not handicap friendly. I wanted to attend with a guest with a handicap who couldn't stand during the performance and required a seat. Terra Blues could not offer me a seat reservation after 7PM. Without a reservation I couldn't risk having my guest show up at Terra Blues and not have a seat available. The unfriendly staff at Terra Blues, however, was unsympathetic. As a result, we chose to attend another more handicap-friendly jazz establishment, and I would suggest that everyone else do the same. Replying to Ilan: Terra Blues is certainly not a handicap friendly establishment and you should be ashamed of your response. It is not handicap friendly if after 7:30pm you accept walk-ins but don't provide chairs to handicapped walk-in customers. If you allow walk-in customers then you should be providing the necessary services to handicapped walk-in customers. Despicable!!!

Yelp
My first time here and i loved it (I just wish there was food) .. this place has a great ambiance and the show was very entertaining. I will definitely be back.. Let me not forget to mention how attentive the waitress was..just an update, the performance was by Saron Crenshaw, the band is absolutely amazing
