Where to Eat Vegetarian and Vegan Food Around Boston

"Terramia Ristorante isn’t a meat-free restaurant, but it offers a robust selection of vegan pasta dishes in true North End style. This isn’t just pasta dolloped with tomato sauce; you can find vegan ravioli, meat-free meatballs, and a vegan parmesan substitute that guests swear by. Top the meal off with vegan gelato for dessert." - Celina Colby, Megan Hennessey, Eater Staff

Google
Loved everything about it. Friendly, laid back service where I felt like a guest at a family place. Sat outside on a great little patio perfect on a nice night, a camber Salem street made it enjoyable compared to the hectic scene one block over on Hanover. Nice wine list and the food was excellent. Starting with the oil and bean dip for the bread, through a great “open faced ravioli” with fresh shrimp and scallops on a house made pasta sheet. Dessert was extraordinary. Will be back!

Google
Ample vegan options and staff are knowledgeable (even the wines are labelled vegan!) Cozy, warm, romantic ambiance, filled with professional and friendly people. We were rushed out of our table as soon as we had eaten and paid so just beware of that. Otherwise recommend!

Google
Just a superb delectable selection of vegan and several gluten free items. Th favorites were the bean dip for bread, gnocchi al fungi, rigatoni and the eggplant soy vegan meatballs. The mushroom risotto is not to be missed. Service was friendly warm and eager to share favorites- definitely coming back.

Google
Amazing italian cuisine! The vegan risotto is the best I’ve ever had! (And I’ve been to Italy quite a lot!). They also have vegan meatballs which are amazing. Definitely a must not just for vegans!

Google
Celebrated an anniversary at Terramia. We chose the restaurant because I'm vegan and my husband is not. The vibe is intimate and cozy. I always appreciate when restaurants have vegan options. To be picky the "V" meant vegetarian, l which could be made vegan which was a little confusing. I got the Mista Salad and Spaghetti Con Polpette. There was cheese on my salad and I sent it back. Not a big mistake as it was very visible. Food was well timed. It was nice to find something we could both enjoy in the North End. It's good for vegans going out with family or coworkers. I wouldn't choose it for my vegan friends as we have lots of other options. A for effort.

We ate here in April 2025. A member of our party of three made a reservation on a Sunday and the place was pretty empty when we arrived at 5:00pm. People came and went while we were there and it never did fill up. My partner and I both had the misto salad, which seemed to lack any sort of dressing. It was moderately fresh, the texture seemed like the salads were made ahead of time and refrigerated until served. I had the ragu Bolognese pappardelle, thinking it would be meaty. It was not. It was pretty bland. The server was pretty stingy with the fresh ground black pepper and rushed away from the table after a couple of turns of the grinder so I was not able to ask for more before the pasta got cold. My partner had the much acclaimed veal chop. He found it to be very tender and also bland, although he said the mushrooms on top had flavor. It makes a spectacular presentation, but the flavor was lacking. Our friend had the lamb shank which she reported was also very tender and nearly flavor free. Our wine was as described on the menu and we were content with our choices. We each ordered a dessert. I had the flourless chocolate cake. It was a thin sliver with what tasted like Hershey's syrup drizzled over it. Not my thing. My partner had the bread pudding. He reported that the bread part was good but the caramel sauce was too sweet for his taste. The restaurant does not have coffee or espresso, which would have helped us to cut the sweetness of the desserts. "No hot drinks." Food is such a matter of expectation and preference that all I can say is that this was not what we prefer and we were disappointed. Other diners around us seemed to be enjoying their meals, so to each his own.

Google
This is a North End Gem! The menu hosts all types of options including vegetarian and vegan options. Everything was delicious!

Google
my favorite italian restaurant in the north end! the prices are well worth it. we all practically licked our plates clean!

Yelp
Visited Boston for the first time and found this restaurant in Northend, delicious authentic Italian food and our server, Gabriel was great and friendly. we will be back on our next visit to Boston

Yelp
After deciding on a place for some spaghett, we must have met Carla and she had tried hard to convince us. We felt "duped!" service was ok and the food was less than ok. Truthfully Olive Garden was better than this place. We should have stuck with our intuition and went to the place 200 feet down that was way busier. Live and learn. Very disappointing. and after all that convincing she never returned to the table to ask how it was. Would not recommend!

Yelp
After spending more than a half hour meandering around the North End to find the ideal Italian restaurant, we came upon Terramia Ristorante and decided to take a chance. So glad we made that decision, since the service was outstanding and each of our dinners were delicious! Next time we visit the North End, we will definitely return to Terramia.

Yelp
Sooooo delicious! We had a reservation which was good because they were very busy and it's a pretty small eatery. Our server was friendly and accommodating, I ordered a spicy pomodoro with housemade spaghetti and grilled shrimp. Hubby hit the bolognese, and then we shared a salad. Oh and the amazing bread they make in house either the white bean dip, so amazing!!!!!! Def go, it was all very tasty!

Yelp
Heck yes for vegan options at an Italian restaurant! And not just salad. My sister and I made a reservation, which I highly recommend because the entire neighborhood was bustling during the weekend around dinner time. After enjoying the complimentary bread that was served with a unique and tasty white bean dip (love the creativity) I ordered a glass of wine as well as the Insalata Di Arugula Con Finocchio E Arance. In other words, wild arugula, shaved fennel and fresh orange segments tossed in an Italian honey dressing ($17). Yum. I love the combo of fennel and citrus so this was a winner in my book! I went back and forth between a couple entrees and finally chose the Gnocchi Ai Funghi based on our server's rec ($28). This vegan potato dumpling dish is plated with a mushroom sauce. The serving was pretty generous and the flavor was decent, although the gnocchi themselves didn't melt in my mouth as I hoped. My sister seemed to enjoy her Vegano Ravioli, which is a brightly flavored, lighter option. Service was decent, and the atmosphere is pretty lively for a smaller space. If I'm ever back in Boston I'd be happy to return to enjoy the arugula salad again and try another plant-based main!

Yelp
Omni restaurant with lots of Vegan and GF options. The white bean olive oil dip was lovely. I ordered the vegan ravioli and it was good. Waiter was generally attentive even though he had 12 or so tables, and was able to answer questions. One star off because we ate pretty quickly after our food came, but were rushed out by the hostess as we were divvying up the bill. I quickly paid it with the QR code and ended up having my friends Venmo me their portions from a bench outside. We didn't order drinks and weren't there that long, so being asked to leave was strange.

Yelp
The restaurant is SMALL and loud, but the food (in my opinion, mainly the appetizers) is delicious. My party found the entrees less flavorful than the apps and if we were to go back we'd all just stick to apps! The service was incredibly friendly and the food came fast, plus the bread and bean-oil spread were delicious starters! (Make sure you are on time but you may still have to wait for your table--and if you have to wait you have to wait outside because the restaurant is so small!) Great location in the north end for vibes and pictures AND it's only a quick walk to Bovas for post mean cannoli!

Yelp
My wife had never been to Boston before, let alone the North End. I brought her to Terramia Ristorante and it did not disappoint. The ambiance and service were great. She had the pasta bolognese, while I had the lobster ravioli, which was one of the specials.
google avatar

Phil M.

Yelp
Very good food but very small dining areas and as such very loud. The lobster ravioli was excellent.

Yelp
We met family here while in town for a regatta. We had a reservation which is a must as this is a very small place. First impressions - Terramia is charming! I began with an Aperol Spritz that was just what I needed. It was refreshing and lightly sweet. While we perused the menu bread was delivered to our table. I was pleasantly surprised by the dip that accompanied the bread. It was a purée of seasoned beans and spicy oil. So good! For my main I chose the lamb osso bucco. It was tender and so flavorful. Along side were generous servings of delicious, creamy polenta and fresh spinach. For dessert I had the flourless cake. Lovely ending to the meal. I wished they served coffee or hot tea, because either would have been a nice compliment.

Yelp
Brought my friend here for her birthday and had some really delicious food! We started with bread and olives - classic. The entrees were incredible. The Ravioli Amatriciana was some of the best I've ever had for sure. It was a bit spicier than I expected but just perfect. We split that and the Salmon which was also another great choice! Dessert looked great but we were pretty full. While the servers were nice, they sat on their phones behind us texting and talking the whole time we ate and it was hard to get the check. Really not what I would expect for this price point. I'd still go back though as it was some of the better dishes I've had in the North End.

Yelp
The seafood ravioli has to be one of the most amazing dishes i ever had!!! The service was pretty good and i got lucky on a Friday night without reservations. It's a nice looking restaurant but the place is tiny! You may/can/will easily bump into other dinners.
google avatar

Yelp
I haven't done a review in a long time but I haven't been in Boston in a long long time. I decided to venture into little Italy! I was fixated to go to this one specific restaurant but it was full and I didn't make reservations! Passed by this restaurant that looked cute and when I checked reviews was better. Was greeted by a big smile! My host told me a couple of things in a very thick Italian accent but I said but I said yes to everything. I got an amazing Sangiovese and a short rib ravioli that I knew at the first bite it was fresh pasta, at that moment I knew I made a very good decision to come to this restaurant. The sauce was a shiitake sauce, yum, well balanced perfect for the 3 huge raviolis. I wanted to eat the whole menu of this place, and the service, ... is like being at home!!!!!! Yes, yes, and yes! Haven't gave a 5 in a long time either!

Yelp
Great service. Delicious antipasto and pasta and salmon. Small space was not loud - a nice place to talk. Would return again.

Yelp
YUM. this was some of the best gnocchi i've ever had. we started with sangria and i highly recommend that as well, delicious. they bring out sourdough bread after you order and dare i say we asked for seconds - all the food was great and it was a very classic north end spot

Yelp
This place is incredible. The food is authentic italian and the restaurant is small and cozy, with only about 10 tables. I'm confident that this chef makes each dish to-order and puts a ton of care into his food. There's also a complimentary bread service, which is fantastic.

Neha K.

Yelp
We didn't have a reservation, so we put our name down with the host, who told us a table would be ready in 45 minutes. When we returned, there were several empty tables, but the host seated another party instead and informed us there would be an additional 30-minute wait. At that point, we decided to leave as it certainly felt disrespectful. We won't be returning and definitely don't recommend this place. There are plenty of other great options on the street with polite and respectful staff.

Max F.

Yelp
10/10 recommend. Our server was Gabriel and he treated us like family. the food was incredible and the wine was divine.
google avatar

Yelp
Linguini with clam sauce and ravioli both delicious. Friendly staff and attentive service.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was a little slow, they were busy on a Friday night. Window table, very nice! Antipasto was amazing. All the dishes were excellent and cooked to perfection. Solid choice for North End Ital
google avatar

Dennis M.

Yelp
I knew I was in for a special experience when Carla texted me to tell me the table was ready early and could I come. The table was by the window and it was gorgeous. Service was excellent from the beginning, water and bread to the table. Order taken for appetizers and entrees. We had vegan meatballs and tomatoes and burrata for appetizers. Both were superb. Next came the entrees -- gnocchi and mushrooms (vegan), vegan spaghetti and meatballs, and pasta and clams. All were delicious. They asked us about dessert but we had eaten too much already. If you are looking for an intimate, friendly and excellent restaurant in the North End you can do no better than Terramia. Tell Carla I sent you. And yes there is parking down Cooper Street, expensive but generally available.
google avatar

Haja F.

Yelp
You have to go here when you are in the Northend. Unfortunately did not get to try a bunch of things but what I had was delicious. I had the Raviolone aperto and bread pudding for dessert. The portion is perfect so you will have lots of room for dessert. You can't skip dessert! Similar to most of the restaurants in the area it is small. But it is very cozy and cute. The staff was just amazing and the service was fast. Pictures can't do the taste any justice. Just go and try it for yourself, you will not be diss appointed.

Yelp
Cute restaurant in the Italy District of Boston. Very small restaurant, but the service and food quality is out of this world. Very romantic spot for first dates. Only problem they do not have a full bar. Great options for vegans and vegetarians.
google avatar

Phebe C.

Yelp
The vegan ravioli is outstanding! I also tried lobster fritters which were cooked perfectly. Their complementary bean spread and fresh bread was filling. Best was how they accommodated me as I was dining alone- thank you Julie for making me feel welcome.

Yelp
My wife and I had an excellent experience at Terramia Ristorante tonight. Service was perfect. The food was incredible. We will certainly be back soon.

Rose Q.

Yelp
We did restaurant week there, and we had a great time. Because it is a small restaurant and very popular, even with reservations we still waited a bit for our table. But there are chairs outside so it was not bad waiting. The service was very friendly and fast. They have a lot of vegan and gluten-free options. It is a good spot for gathering when someone in your group has dietary restrictions. Everything tasted great. The rice ball, salmon, and the two deserts are my favorite of that night. The only issue I had is that when I sit down I saw my napkin was stained, food or drinks was not on the table yet, not even water, so I was a little bit disappointed. But we had a great time and that's the most important part. And the food was very good.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
Great food, ambiance, top-notch service. Wine and great, assorted appetizers that fit dietary needs. Loved our time here and cannot wait to go back!

David R.

Yelp
We had the meatballs & found a long black hair Kind of ruined the rest of the meal the special lobster ravioli was very good

Raavi P.

Yelp
Though I have liked caprese on many occasions, the hostess seems to display a pattern of being rude racially. When I pointed it out recently, the cool just refunded me for the wine and didn't say anything to her. Never going back again.
google avatar

Samuel S.

Yelp
Fantastic food and great service! Definitely worth the stop if you're looking for Italian food in the North End.
google avatar

Thomas H.

Yelp
Positive: while it was busy, they were able to accommodate us late on Friday without a reservation with less than a half hour wait. Charming street and location. Negatives: super loud. Maybe because of that our waiter kept screwing up our order but it seemed like he didn't care. In the balance, not worth the price. There are so many other cute and nice restaurants within a stones throw. In fact, we went to one two nights later - much better ambiance, service and food. Do your homework.

Yelp
I came here with my stepsister and her boyfriend for dinner on a Monday night. We made reservations, but nearly the whole restaurant was empty when we arrived at 7. We were originally seated inside, but I asked if we could move to the patio, which our waiter had no issue with. We ordered a bottle of wine and some olives to share. The complementary bread comes with puréed white beans and olive oil, which was a nice touch. We placed our order for our entrées at the same time, and unfortunately, every dish came out at once. I wish we had had some time to have a glass of wine with the bread and olives before eating our dinner. I ordered the muscles. They were good, but not outstanding. The bread was somewhat stale, which made it perfect for dipping in the juice. The highlight of Terremia are the plentiful vegan options, which are generally hard to come by in the North End. They are accommodating of dietary restrictions and not as old school as a lot of other restaurants in the neighborhood. Overall, it was fine. 4 stars for having inclusive menu options and for our waiter, who was very attentive and nice. Otherwise, just 3 stars. If you don't have a vegan in your group, I would go somewhere else.

Annie D.

Yelp
Some highlights and lowlights. Very cozy, homey feel to this restaurant. The caprese app was very good and fresh. Also we loved the meatball app, truly Italian and wonderful fresh tomato sauce. My husband's chicken Marsala was also fantastic, best he's ever had. My daughter and I had the lobster ravioli special, which was not special. The lobster tasted fishy and not fresh. Pasta was great but sauce and filling weren't fresh. Have had so much better. Bread pudding dessert was a standout it was spectacular. 3 stars because our special main meals were not very good. Service was functional but not overly friendly, although the other table waiter seemed better. I'd go back and avoid the seafood.

Connor B.

Yelp
I brought my girlfriend there as one of her first forays into something as large as a city. Great, high quality food at a fair price. Small accommodations but it felt more homey

Alex S.

Yelp
The food was the greatest we've ever had in North End, and the service was amazing, with great ambiance

Kathleen R.

Yelp
I am so thankful to have had such an amazingly delicious meal last evening! From the moment we stepped into the sweet, cozy restaurant, we were kindly greeted by Julie; and, I immediately felt great anticipation...it smelled just like my husband's Nona Gina's kitchen!!! Our Daughter was equally delighted with the Vegan and Gluten free options!!! Also, thank you Julie for sharing the broccoli rabe recipe!!! Yum!
google avatar

Katherine R.

Yelp
Let's be honest, all of the Italian restaurants in the north end are amazing and this place is no exception. The restaurant has a cozy Italian vibe with the kitchen in the back. However, it's small, so you will be in close quarters with your neighbors. Outside seating (during the summer) is just off the sidewalk outside. We enjoyed being submerged in the north end neighborhood and grabbed some cute pictures while we were eating. The people here are so sweet and accommodating. We had great service and everyone was so professional and kind! The food here is great! I typically start with the arancini (cheesy rice ball) and get the bolognese. The first time I came here I swore it was the BEST plate of bolognese I ever had (a high praise from me). However, I will admit the most recent time I went the bolognese seemed different. It was still really good but I preferred the old preparation!
google avatar

Lena M.

Yelp
Cozy, quaint and friendly spot for dinner. Our family sat in the front window, a little snug and warm enough with the heaters under the windows. Fortunately, their flexibility gave us a chance to enjoy a family meal after a long drive from Conway, NH for our weekend getaway. We both enjoyed the caprese appetizer with the freshest burrata since Aruba. The olive oil was the most flavorful I've ever tasted and didn't waste a drop. Thank you to whomever I chatted with via text, you avoided us from a potential disaster (of waiting hours for dinner had we been unable to make our reservation). Thank you! We look forward to coming back next time we're in town. Cheers

Rob T.

Yelp
Lovely north end restaurant, great food from appetizer through to dessert. Nice vegan options!
google avatar

David J.

Yelp
This was a last minute dinner spot and I loved it. It is a small dining room that was densely packed but they designed it in such a way that it doesn't disturb your meal. We were seated in the center. The food was great . The staff were efficient and friendly but not overly solicitous.
google avatar

Justine B.

Yelp
Highly recommend you come try the vegan pasta here! We got the vegan gnocchi with the truffle oil on the side and we highly recommend this because the sauce flavor is out of this world and the truffle oil almost overpowers it. The pasta was so fresh and flavorful. The ravioli was great. The red sauce was slightly plain becAuse they don't have vegan cheese to put on top, but the ravioli itself was perfect. The complimentary bread and dip is vegan and out of this world tasty. If we ever come back to Boston we definitely would visit again! Service was great. Ambiance was romantic and cozy for the holidays.

Zoe B.

Yelp
My favorite place in the North End. Food and espresso martinis are equally amazing. The bean dip at the beginning is so freaking good. They have a few vegan options and I could get them on repeat. The place is the size of a room so def would try to make a reservation first or call to see if they have space
google avatar

Taylor H.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my dinner with family at Terramia. We had been in the area and got done our touristy tour a little early. Although we had a reservation for 8pm we stopped by to see if they could let us in and they did. The bread and bean spread you get kicked us off to a great start, we ordered a bottle of Oregon red and shared some arachini which was fantastic. Most people at the table ordered the open faced seafood ravioli, I wish I got a picture because it was beautiful! Creamy but not too heavy. I ordered the mushroom gnocchi!
google avatar

Julia L.

Yelp
This is one of the absolute restaurants in the north end!! Absolutely incredible menu - whether you're feeling pasta, seafood, meat, any of the north end staples they've got it all. My personal favorites are the bolognese, the osso bucco, and the lobster ravioli special when they have it. Great oysters too, and the tiramisu is some of the best I've ever had. They also have plenty of vegan and gluten free options too! The service is always amazing, on my last visit they went out of their way to ensure we got a table by the window, which I didn't even request! It was totally above and beyond of them and so sweet. It's super cozy too, and slightly off the beaten path so you get a break from the usual north end traffic - perfect for a date, but also great for family dinners and celebrations. Couldn't recommend it more, will always be one of my all time favorites!
google avatar

Theresa Huong D.

Yelp
Super small and cute place. They were very accommodating with our reservation (but was a Monday evening). The pasta was delicious and so was the wine. I would highly recommend and would return.

Bernard P.

Yelp
a terrific experience we will be back for sure. save room for the dessert. lots of really good vegan substitutions.
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
We went to Terramia as they offer a great selection of classic Italian dishes and vegan options. It was the best of both worlds! The vegan dishes were delightful! We appreciated knowing we didn't have to worry about explaining what we could/couldn't eat. Those in our party enjoyed other non vegan dishes as well. They also give you bread and olive oil which was enjoyed as we waited for our main courses. The service was just right; Some in our group showed up early and were able to be seated quickly whereas my partner and I hit some delays and ended up showing up a smidge late. It was a lovely experience at a restaurant in the north end!

Judy B.

Yelp
We ate at this restaurant during our stay in Boston and enjoy delicious food. Good service and a wonderful night out.
google avatar

Cole R.

Yelp
It's pretty rare you find an Italian place like this that can make dishes vegan and gluten free, but they were very accommodating and we loved our food. Nice authentic vibes inside, will definitely be returning whenever I'm in Boston.
