Google
10/10 experience. The atmosphere, wine and staff are amazing. This was my first time visiting and I was so impressed. The wines are amazing, which comes at no surprise since they have multiple 100 point wines (which we bought).

I wish I could give this winery no stars. When my Asian American walked into the tasting room she greeted the employee behind the bar and received no greeting at all, only a cold stare, When the rest of us (all Caucasian women) walked into tasting room, the same employee gave us a forced greeting like we were intruding. We are all well groomed, mannered ladies so there was nothing in our appearance or attitude to give the employee bad vibes. Her bad attitude continued during the tasting giving us the feeling that she was forcing herself to serve us. We left the tasting early as we couldn't bear anymore rudeness from this employee. There was only a handful of people tasting at this winery while the rest of the wineries we visited were busy but the employee provided us with cheerful, excellent service

Save your money and support the plethora of other wineries in Amador that deserve your business! A group of friends and I recently tried Terre Rouge as part of our Annual friends trip to "Behind the Cellar Door". Upon entering we weren't greeted with the warm and fuzzies. There were 7 of us all in our later 30's and 40's- not young, wild kids. We were seated in the back to do our tastings. You could tell from the get-go the staff didn't seem thrilled to have us there. We were all enjoying our time amongst ourselves.. not being loud and obnoxious. Simply conversing and chatting about the day! My husband had brought in a beer because he does not like wine. He did not realize that wasn't allowed as he had brought it with him to other wineries and we are newer to California. Nevertheless, not a big deal, he now knows it's not ok and respects the rules/law. That being said, when the owner realized he had a beer she stomped over and scolded him as if he was a child and demanded that she was going to have to "take his glass." It was so bizarre we all initially thought she was joking. Like I said, he didn't realize this was wrong and he was happy to pour it out. There were a plethora of other ways to request him to get rid of it without being so rude and still appreciating our business. Mind you, we bought cases of wine at other wineries! After the owner went and dumped his glass and then returned with it in a huff.. she quickly exclaimed that they could "no longer serve us because we were loud and we came in a party bus!" What?! This is laughable.. Again, we were nothing but respectful our whole time there.. enjoying each others company and tasting wine. Then, a party bus? I'm guessing she means the bus we came in that isn't a party bus, but, a yearly van rental company we use to take us from winery to winery so that we we can have a good time safely. Perhaps next year we should drive ourselves drunk?! Those comments were absurd. All in all the wines were sub par and the ownership is beyond terrible. The way they treat customers is beyond rude and they obviously don't appreciate people that want to come in and enjoy each others company!

We did not enjoy this area. Give two tickets for two taste or use both tickets for a half of a glass. They are very small and not really people people if you know what I mean. They need happier staff.

Visiting Sierra Foothills has always been my idea. The impact of the epidemic has blocked my trip. After sending my daughter to summer camp this summer, I can finally make the trip. Since this region is not very well known, I didn't have high expectations. But my opinion completely changed after tasting six wonderful wines, it's a gem and I can't wait to visit again with good friends.

Really remarkable wines, and wonderful people standing behind them. This is always a 'must' stop on my twice yearly drives up from the Bay Area to the Amador County winery scene. If zins/syrahs/barberras are what you seek, definitely try some here - they're well aged, finessed, and offered at several price points. I prefer their cab sauvignon over many others from other California regions. Definitely add to your list for any Sierra Foothills wine trip!

Google
Referred to Terre Rouge by a couple other vineyards as we were looking for a particular wine. Walked in with our group of 4 at 3:45 and we're told they would not do a tasting with us because we were in a limo and they were close to closing. As we walked out the staff mocked my wife & daughter. Our driver had been going for years & committed to never going back. Typical attitude of a wanna be winery.... Total garbage in service! We ended up across the street at Jeff Runquist, great wine, great service & $1,000 worth of wine later we are now part of their wine club.

I don’t know why, but this was my first time tasting here. A very solid lineup of wine, I will be back regularly!

Yelp
The servers were friendly. I enjoyed most of the wines from the tasting list. The tasting fee is waived pp per bottle purchased. The tasting room was outside which was pretty spacious. They have corn hole and that game where you roll the ball. I don't know what it's called. Haha. We purchased their 2021 Easton Sauvignon Blanc. We were served some kind of olive spread with crackers.

Yelp
Nice laid-back winery, with outdoor patio for bring-your-own picnics. Very friendly staff. Dog-friendly. Wine tasting was well-done. Several wines stood out. Lovely kitchen ceramics also on sale, if that's your thing. Will definitely go back there. This was the first winery in Shenandoah Valley that we've been to. Will be back. Shenandoah attitude beats Napa attitude, hands down!

Yelp
Went to Terra Rouge w hubby as part of his birthday celebration. They were so sweet and personalized the tasting menu for us! Sherry was our server and my husband didn't feel like he could nerd out about the wine as much as with some other places he'd gone to. However, we did like the extra 3 tastings she recommended (the sav blanc, tete a tete, and the Easton Zinfandel that was voted part of top 100 Zins in the world. We bought the Sav blanc as

Yelp
Very nice open tasting room and outdoor area. Felt welcoming and warm. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Wines were yummy. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
We tasted based on the 100 points on their Syrah for 2018. We had never been here. They make you wait and wait in between tastings. They are serving wines that are 8-10 years old and oxidized. Don't wait your time. So many other better wines in Amador County

Yelp
Not sure how anyone can not love this place. For a wine event (Cellar door) they had the service on hit! Great wine, ambiance and a sweet dog Ginger. I would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Yelp
This is a really nice stop. Super friendly staff, and a good selection of wine in a beautiful tasting room.

Yelp
Kindest staff I have ever encountered at winery. They give you information about the information about the wine without getting too far into things that I as an average drinker don't concern myself with. Always treated like a valuable customer and always leave purchasing at least 6 bottles. This is a must stop.

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise. This was one of four wineries I visited during my first visit to Amador and was by far the best. I've been to Southern Rhone and totally appreciate quality Rhone wines. These wines are the closest I've found to that in California. They also late release their wines when they're ready to drink, and prices are modest. David guided me through a very memorable tasting of a combination of their Terre Rouge and Easton labels. This is a real gem and I would highly recommend to anyone who is interested in experiencing quality wines inspired by Old World style in a relaxed setting.

Yelp
This place is not worth coming back to. The customer service is awful aside from the gentleman that works there. We walked in as first time customers to be sat in no mans-ville when there were many open tables. We asked to be sat where all other customers were sitting and the girl with her fly down gave attitude because we didn't have a "picnic". Wine is eh to say the least. On to the next. My advice is to bring a picnic but you can't eat it until "after you taste". They made us feel uncomfortable and we won't be back.

Yelp
I heard about Terre Rouge way back when because they support NPR. Finally, had the chance to try them out! They have new hours and are open for tasting on Thursdays now. I think it is only for September/October? Anyway, call head if you come out on a weekday. So many wines, so little time. Because I was here on a Thursday, they were only pouring about 7-8 varieties or so. On the weekends, there is more of a selection. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise, but I didn't buy the case of 2004 Viognier (only $149 a case!!!) that I wanted because I am unemployed. Wait a second...that came out wrong. It does really suck not to have any income, but it has made me very conscious of $$$ going out. As a result, I am learning to refrain from buying unnecessary items. Unfortunately cases of wine fall into this category. The 2004 Viognier is lightly oaked, giving it a hint of butteryness, but not overly done like some chardonnays. It also had the characteristics of Viognier, slightly fruity with hints of tropical flavors. I am not a wine connoisseuse by any means, but I really enjoyed this one out of all the viogniers that I tried that day. I highly highly recommend checking out their case specials right now. I don't know how long these prices will last, but should I get a job, like tomorrow, I'm going back to get my wine.

Yelp
Probably my favorite stop of the day, after a disappointing first stop in Placerville, this tasting experience definitely made up for it. The tasting room is on the smaller side and there are two bars, one long main tasting bar and another for groups. Luckily we had an appointment and had one of the staff, Marie, attend to us one on one. Marie was awesome, she exuded passion and knowledge about the wines and the winery. She was friendly and welcoming and was willing to answer all of my questions. Though the tasting room was small, it was warm and charming. Marley, the winery dog greeted us before any of the humans did...which we were okay with. The golden retriever puppy that we had with us definitely appreciated another four legged friend. The wines from Terre Rouge are exceptional. Bill Easton, the owner and winemaker, makes his wines with the utmost care and ages them before release. I enjoyed a 2010 Roussanne which isn't always made into its own bottle, so finding one was particularly exciting, and finding out that a 6+ year old white wine was still tasting good was another thing. I also took home a 2009 Pinot Noir, which is another rare find in the Sierra Foothills region, much less a Pinot Noir with so much age on it..tasting great and I can't wait to share it with other Pinot Noir lovers. For the quality and controlled aging of the wine, almost all the bottles were under $40...not bad at all. Definitely my highlight of this trip to the Sierra Foothills. Would love to meet the owner and/or winemaker...maybe next time!

Yelp
I first visited Terre Rouge back when the Sierra Century spring bike event was held here in the early '90s. It seemed to be an idyllic weekend: biking and wine tasting. Unfortunately, I had to really "taste and spit" in order to not become inebriated. [ Seriously, drinking and biking is a ~bad~ idea. In a bike vs car clash, it more than likely that the cyclist will be the one most injured.] However, we were free to return after the cycling event and make our purchases then. This was one of the first places I visited where they had Rhone varietals as well as the usual Bordeaux varietals. I think I tend to get more of the Easton label bottles, on average, when I stop here. The house red wine blend is fantastic and a great bargain. I recommend it if you like big, bold reds to complement a steak or roasted beef meal.

Yelp
Without question the best, most consistent wine producer in the region. Well on the par of Napa Valley wineries. If you like good wine, check this one out.
google avatar

Mary T.

Yelp
My family did wine tasting here. I liked the quicker pace of the tastings (in comparison to other wineries) because I for one don't particularly care about the history behind each wine, Im here to drink. While the tasting room itself didnt give me any sort of vibe one way or another, I loved the outside picnic area. Tons of shade, several picnic tables, just peaceful and lovely.

Yelp
Another of the "damn you!!!" vineyards of Northern California. I say this, because despite steeling myself, ordering myself to not spend money, reminding myself of my adult responsibilities, I generally walk out of here a lot poorer then when I walked in. With this spot though, you get the best of both worlds - quality AND quantity. We're talking excellently priced, high calibre wines here, folks. And nestled in the middle of the tasting room lurks their sale pile. For example, a case of 1999 Estate Cab for $199. (Normally $40 a bottle.) Which works out to... um, buy 5 get 7 free. Seek out their pocket buddies - little half bottles of velvety aged zin for $50 case on a good day. To cap it off, tasting room manager Doug Bellamy knows his stuff. I mean, KNOWS his stuff. Remember that scene in City Slickers where Barry and Ira can pair ANY meal with their ice cream? Doug'll do the same thing with their tasty, tasty sauce. An absolute must see in the heart of Amador's wine country, that's starting to make Napa and even Sonoma look bad...

Yelp
WORST ENCOUNTER EVER We frequent wineries and go wine tasting at least once a month. Such a shame because beautiful place with good wine but the rudest owner/wine maker ever. Group of 14 people. All professionals buying wine at every stop. The owner actually put his hands on and pushed one of our party when she spoke up and told him to quit putting his finger in peoples faces. Little does he know that she a Ca State Attorney. Good luck with that one fella. On top of it all the 3 bottles we had just purchased literally 2 minutes before the shove fest, wouldn't be refunded by him. Kick the party out while yelling and keeping our money. Not to mention, we all paid tasting fees which were not refunded with bottles of wine bought. This review cannot even explain at how shocked and confused by the way this fiasco went down. If you look at my review history you will see I generally give 4 to 5 star ratings on the places I go to. I honestly forget about reviewing places that are just average. This 1 star review is about the rudeness of the ownership. Beyond rudeness actually. He is lucky cops were not called on him. You can yell and tell people to leave but do not push anyone.....especially a State Attorney. There are hundreds of other wineries in the region. Spend your money elsewhere.

Yelp
Terre Rouge (Rhone varietal label) and Easton (the Amador tyical varietals- Barberra, Zin, Syrah) happens to be one of the best places to stop in the California Shenandoah Valley (yes there is one outside of Virginia). After tasting one of their many delicious wines, there's no better place to pop a cork on a bottle of their Vin Gris and enjoy a picnic on their lawn or a game of petanque (balls are provided) on their pitch. Doug is fantastic at pairing wine with food- so you can always ask him for great ideas to take your appreciation of wine and food to the next level. He also drives a mean bargain and is quick to point out the ridiculously well priced specials in the middle of the tasting floor. My husband actually left there last week with a hole burned through the card and a broken back from carrying all of the boxes to the car. Well worth the visit if you're within 50 miles of the place!

Yelp
For my mom's birthday, she decided she wanted to go to Amador County and do some wine tasting. This place was one of the places on her list. As our family isn't too keen on Zinfandel, so my Mom specifically sought out wineries that focused on Syrahs and Petite Syrahs. Terre Rouge definitely fits that bill. This place is one winery that produces wine under 2 labels. The Terre Rouge brand is more for their french based wines and the Easton is for everything else. When you are in the tasting room, you get the luxury of tasting both wines. Their selection is GOOOOD. I loved their Syrahs and I was even impressed with their Zinfandel that they were serving (wasn't a typical California Zin). This winery makes me think, why go to Lodi? Why go to Napa? This place is equally good and close to my parents house, so I don't have to take a long trip or even book a hotel. I already signed up for their mailing list and looking forward to going back for some of their events. The scenery surrounding the winery is beautiful. With the rolling hills and the gorgeous vineyards, you are definitely seeing some breathtaking views. It almost makes me miss living in the area. The staff at the winery is very knowledgeable about the wine. You never have to question whether or not they are just giving you a line
google avatar

Kraig T.

Yelp
A great little winery in the Amador foothills. Lots of great Rhone varietal wines and Zinfandels under the Easton banner. I really enjoy the Syrahs.
google avatar

Yelp
Terre Rouge was another one of my favorite wineries. Whle the winery was busy, the owner took the time to talk to our group and listen to all of our stories. Most of the wine, like many of the wineries we visited, was a tad above my price range (the $20s per bottle), but we scored a dessert wine that was only about $15. The tasting room was plenty large to accomodate a lot of people, which was nice compared to some of the other wineries that didn't have enough space, but it still maintained a homey and cozy vibe. The friendly dog that hung around was a nice touch! Like most of the wineries we visited in the area, they had a great selection, both for tasting and for purchase.

Yelp
I had a wonderful visit to this place about two years ago, back in the days of the no-Napa-no-Sonoma pledge and the heyday of the Yelp Wine Tours (damn, that was fun). Almost organized an event here, but the group dispersed before I had a chance. I came back on a random Sunday and stumbled into a comprehensive syrah tasting weekend. This is exactly where I am with respect to the universe right now. The syrah spread was formidable in breadth and depth and all were very good. The Shelter Oak Vineyard bottle was my favorite, with the kind of rich Amador flavor that I love. The flight ranged from low-altitude valley vineyards to high altitude grapes grown at the edge of the Shenandoah Valley, and each had a distinct flavor profile and nose that spanned a range of tastes. All good. As a bonus they were pouring a GSM "Vin Gris D'Amador" that is one of the best roses that I've had outside of NPA Pinot Gris. Even better, at $120/case it was worth stocking the cellar for many warm nights in the future. Next time, I'm bringing food for the outdoor picnic area and making a day of it.
google avatar

Gary R.

Yelp
Classic reds! This stuff is always good. They are usually a few vintages behind the rest of Amador because they perfect the barrel. Such a smooth, complex syrah.
google avatar

Sarah Q.

Yelp
Full disclosure: I am a member of the Terre Rouge wine club (a "Grapehead"). Terre Rouge/Easton has, by far, the most consistent, best tasting wines in Northern California. I've been wine tasting in Napa, Sonoma, and Lodi, and Terre Rouge/Easton always knocks it out of the park. I know that wine appreciation is 100% subjective, but I really think that these wines are extra spectacular. I think the high quality is partly due to the foothills' soil as well as the cooler temperatures. In addition, Terre Rouge doesn't get caught up in all of the marketing hype. Yes, their wines get high ratings in Wine Spectator, but there are no egos here. This small, family run business has a lot of heart and soul, and I bet it will stay that way for years to come. Finally, Doug (tasting room manager) is the nicest man you will ever meet, and always greets you with a smile. If you are going wine tasting in Amador county, you must visit Terre Rouge/Easton wines. You won't regret it one bit!
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
We stopped in for a taste and left with a case... Nice tasting room with a wide selection, the young woman who was pouring was getting her details a little twisted, but I think it was because it was busy. There was a wine festival that weekend and all the tasting rooms were bustling. Whats nice about Terre Rouge is that they actually had the space to accommodate. I would have liked to have checked out the grounds more, but we had several stops ahead of us, so we had to move along.
google avatar

Darcy R.

Yelp
One of the best wineries in the Plymouth area. I enjoyed the wine so much I actually got a part time gig at the winery a while ago. The owners are so friendly! Beautiful spot to picnic and enjoy a bottle. A wonderful selection of wines so I guarantee there is something for everyone.

Peter J.

Yelp
Really good quality wines here. We've been wine enthusiasts for many years and do quite a bit of tasting at wineries. Of the dozen or so wineries we tasted from on our trip to this area Terre Rouge/Easton was in the top two or three.
google avatar

Jayne G.

Yelp
Picked up a case of the Easton House Red at the Big Crush Festival for under $70. Awesome everyday table wine, and for the price, you can't beat it. Two thumbs way up.
google avatar

Nadine F.

Yelp
Pretty good wine in Amadore. My friend and I happened to be there on the day of their syrah tasting. I am a big fan of syrahs and enjoyed what they had to offer. Not the best winery on this trip but definitely a fun place to visit. My friend, however, was more of a barbera and zinfandel and he said all the syrahs tasted the same to him. We both decided to pay the five dollars to try the last specialty syrah and it was well worth it. Probably the best syrah of my life!
google avatar

Reed N.

Yelp
I started drinking Terre Rouge back in the late 90's. While the prices of their wines have gone up, so has the quality and breadth of offerings. The tasting room is friendly and grounds are wonderful.
google avatar

Frank S.

Yelp
5 star on staff- great info knowledge and service. very friendly. they have a large "older vintage" selection which is excellent to be able to try. I was not a fan of ALL of the wines though. A little hit and miss on some. Def worth trying though. Everyone likes different stuff.

Marie B.

Yelp
I will likely not ever visit this winery again. We came as a group and were celebrating a few of our friends birthdays. We were having a good time until we were told to "quiet down" as if this were a library. We were treated very rudely even though some in our party bought some wine. There are so many choices in the Plymouth winery area that I don't understand how this winery can afford to be so rude to paying customers.

Amy Y.

Yelp
Great wines, and very accommodating staff! The 2011 Cooper Barbera is a must try. We look forward to a return visit.
google avatar

Scott R.

Yelp
Knowledgeable staff and modest tasting fee - but the wines currently being poured for tasting are not really the best Terre Rouge has to offer. I found the 2006 syrah almost undrinkable - but the more current syrah vintage now being poured to be quite nice. Hard to complain when the tasting fee is only $5...

Yelp
I visited this winery last weekend with a group of pretty rowdy ladies. Yes, we were a large group and no we did not call ahead for an appointment. That was bad on our part. However, we were told they would allow us to stay if we all paid upfront for our tastings. No problem. We all paid and they took our money. Like I said, some in our group were having fun and being a bit loud, but not all of us. The man behind the counter became upset with some of the girls and told them to be quiet, so they left. All that were left in the tasting room from our group was myself and two other ladies. We were quietly purchasing our wine when the RUDE man approached us and began wagging his finger in our faces telling us what he thought about the situation..WHILE WE WERE PURCHASING HIS PRODUCT! One of our friends at that point saw him being aggressive toward us and came in to make sure we were OK and ready to go. He then came from behind the counter and told us all to get out and with hands raised came toward my friend. Totally uncalled for behavior. This man should never be allowed to work in customer service in any way shape or form. Bottom Line: I belong to quite a few wine clubs in the area and frequent these wineries and this is the first time I was ever treated like such trash. Never again will I return and I will spread the word far and wide that nobody else should either!
google avatar

Vicki R.

Yelp
They are rude to people wanting to have a good time. No one was out of line except the owner! My friends and I will not be going back to this one!
google avatar

Cathy G.

Yelp
Yesterday I had the opportunity to do some wine tasting in Shenandoah Valley with family & friends. The Terre Rouge / Easton winery was the last place we visited and it was such a pleasant experience! Doug - was fantastic, patient and quite knowledgeable with our group. He explained the variety of wines we were tasting and welcomed all of our questions. He definitely drives a great bargain...so much so you just can't help but purchase a few cases...plus the fact that the wine is impeccable! I walked out with a case of the Noir....many thanks to Doug for a wonderful wine-tasting experience!
google avatar

Nate S.

Yelp
One of the groundbreakers of the Foothills, Easton crafts red and white wines that more often than not hit the mark, giving nice expression of their origins, without excessive manipulation. With a broad range of offerings, including a deep library selection, they are an excellent jumping-off point for exploring the region's potential.

Charlotte W.

Yelp
Of all the wineries I visited in Amador County during a recent vacation, this one was by far my favorite. The tasting room manager was very knowledgeable - you could tell this was a passion and a profession for him, not just a hobby so he could sip wine all day long! I fell in love with a spicy yet balanced old vine zinfandel, as well as a gorgeous syrah there. In addition, several of the barberas and one of their whites were dynamite! I enjoyed enough of the wines during my tasting that I felt compelled to join the wine club - Grapeheads. I'm convinced I won't be let down!!

Yelp
Nice friendly staff and well priced wines. I cant say that I am a huge fan of any particular wine of theirs, but for an everyday red, you can probably find a couple to enjoy here. Its well worth the stop of the highway to taste here and they serve a very nice cheese spread to accompany crackers, while you are tasting.

Yelp
A wonderful place to taste wine at. We were able to taste quite a few wines. Almost all of them were really good. They had some great case specials going on and by the time we were done tasting we left with a split case on their special.

Yelp
One of my favorite California wineries; really a jewel in the Sierra Foothills. I have been going here for years and I live in the SF Bay Area. I had fun reading the other earlier reviews of this wineries and people's behavior at winery tasting rooms that is obnoxious, but they post nd think it is OK because they were drinking or it is OK to act irresponsibly when you are out "partying", not wine tasting. This Lisa D. review really got to me, as I am an attorney, and have represented wineries occasionally. California ABC law does not allow alcoholic beverages to be brought onto a licensed winery premise by the general public for consumption. The winery could lose their license or be fined if they ignore this law and are caught. (See CA ABC:25607. Possession on premises of goods not covered by license.) I really hope you get a chance to stop by this winery for a visit if you are in the area. They are nice folks.

Yelp
Friendly pourers, nice selection of wines. They frequently change their tasting list, so we'll need to come back another time.

Yelp
GREAT for LARGE GROUPS! Wow, we had such a great time at Terre Rouge! It was my birthday and there were 12 of us - family and friends. Wine was just DELICIOUS and Doug and staff were SO NICE... Doug opened up a special bottle for us - that i chose. I have to say this is our favorite tasting experience in the foothill wine country.
