15 Scranton Restaurants and Bars Referenced on ‘The Office’ | Eater Philly

"In the “Money” episode of “The Office,” a flyer for Terry’s Diner is visible. Not to mention the real phone number — on the “Office Ladies” podcast, the ladies call the diner to chat with a waitress, who tells them that people from all of the world call them because of their television connection. Clearly they’re ok with it — their claim to fame is touted on their website." - Missy Frederick

This was a stop for lunch while on a road trip with the family. This is the perfect Family Diner. The service was attentive and friendly and the food came out quickly. Everything was delicious but we especially loved the hot turkey platter. We all highly recommend!

Google
Anyone who gives this place below 5 stars is lying! This place is definitely the best of the best, if you love comfort food from when you were a kid, this is the place to go. Service was outstanding! We have 4 kids so it's difficult sometimes to go out but our server was amazing.. she went above and beyond for sure. I haven't had stuffed cabbage since i was little, my grandma used to make it for me, she's since passed so it brought many memories back. I would definitely recommend.

Very disappointed with the service I received today. I’ve been here several times in the past and always liked my food. Not sure what happened today, but I had asked for two eggs on my sandwich because i remembered from my last visit that the eggs were scarce on my sandwich. As you can see from the photo I was given one egg even though I ASKED and was CHARGED for two. There was also a piece of plastic bag inside my sandwich?? The containers looked like they were sitting on the floor. My home fries were dried up scraps with two large potatoes that were cut in half (also dry as ever) one looked like somebody bit it. It almost felt like they took leftovers from somebody’s plate, saved them and then served them to me. I’ve never been so disgusted with food in my life. I never leave food reviews, and I’m never a Karen when people make mistakes because I’ve worked in the food service industry myself for years, but this one got to me. It wasn’t one mistake, or two.. everything I asked for was ignored and done however they felt like doing it. I was polite on the phone when placing the order as was the woman on the other side, so I’m not sure where the mishap occurred. I was asked if I wanted salt, ketchup, utensils, or butter and syrup for my children’s pancakes. I said yes to the utensils and butter and syrup. I wasn’t given those either. Very disappointed with the way everything turned out today. Even when checking out I asked for four quarters so my kids could get a gum ball from their gum ball machines and the woman gave me two quarters and five dimes. I wasn’t even going to argue, I could see from where I stood that they had enough quarters but to me it wasn’t worth bickering over. Definitely won’t be coming back again.. I just don’t get it. I’ve always loved this place, never had any issues with anybody and I’m polite and easygoing myself. Seems like somebody maybe had a bad day and took it out on me and that’s not my fault.

Google
Terry's Diner just raised the prices of their breakfast. For the breakfast I normally get it's going to cost me $4. more for a basic breakfast. We have the best waitress, Amy for breakfast others that help are also good.. Once in a while my wife and I stop for dinner on Fridays, but not much because I don't like the soups they have. I assume dinner prices probably went up.

Google
So much History and great food. Can't go wrong with stopping here. St Patrick's food was amazing.

Google
Went to check this place out because of its connection to “The Office.” The place is a little bit dated but the food was very good. I got the Hot Meatloaf Sandwich, I thought the portion was generous and the gravy was delicious. The coleslaw was a bit too wet and more shredded than I would prefer and the chocolate shake tasted more vanilla than chocolate but overall I very much enjoyed the place.

Google
I love old school diners and Terry's fits that bill. The service is wonderful and the food is simple, hot, and delicious. If you are passing through and want a good meal for the money, stop here.

Google
Definitely a fan of breakfast though any time is good. The food is always good and if you ever do have issues they're polite and attentive. The older women in the morning make the whole vibe. It's our favorite weekend breakfast spot.

Yelp
This is my first time at Terry's and our breakfast was really good! All the food for the price, can't beat it. We'll definitely be coming back for lunch or dinner, it's a big menu!

Yelp
I grew up in the diner capital of the world. I have high standards. I ended up at Terry's on a Sunday morning, pretty early, for breakfast. I immediately loved the old school diner feel and the vibe that the place has been around forever. We were seated in a booth in the back dining room and immediately got coffee, which was pretty good. I had a classic two egg breakfast with ham and extra crispy hash browns, and white toast. My eggs were scrambled medium. It was all exactly as expected. Our server was super friendly. She came around often with coffee reheats and water refills.

Yelp
I truly don't know how to rate this place. I come here often. However, the menu is too big for the cooks to actually divulge their skills into your order. I recently had a burger from here and it was Dry, tasteless and about 1/5 of the diameter that it should have been. I choked it down only because I didn't want my spouse to complain. Overall, for something quick I would say, sure stop here. But for a quality dinner (after many times of coming here) I would unfortunately have to say go somewhere else.

Diane S.

Yelp
Excellent first the staff is awesome and we felt very welcomed we stopped there before going to the movies what a great place we ate in the back dining area. Our waitress was great we got the Italian hero the reuben hero. The chicken Creole wrap and the chicken Parm hero we were very happy with everything the portions are great and the food is excellent

Jennifer D.

Yelp
I am giving 1 star only for the hours posted. We didn't get to eat here tonight. All signs say that they are open from 8am to 8pm. We got there this evening looking for some great comfort food only to find a hand written note (under the posted hours of 8 to 8) on the door that the kitchen closes at 7:30pm. We were there at 7:20 and were told we would not be served. If your kitchen closes at 7:30 and you are a restaurant then you are closed at 7:30!!!! Very disappointed!!!

Amy S.

Yelp
service was excellent and breakfast was awesome!!! will be back. Delicious potato pancakes and blueberry pancakes. My husband got the steak and cheese importer omelette and said it was the best!!!

Yelp
Cannot pass up on a good old classic stainless steel dinner. Our server, Helene, was a gem. She was pleasant and attentive to these two visitors from the NJ/NY area. The menu was quite big and took a while to make a decision. My wife went with the classic beer battered cod with pickled beets, mashed potatoes and a wedding soup. I had pot roast, which was super tender with pickled beets (I actually like these things), fries (a big, crisp portion too), and vegetable soup. Complimentary Irish soda bread slices and ice tea made it a great meal. Definitely worth the stop, if you are near Moosic PA.

Yelp
Really good diner. Lots of choices and quick service. You can tell they've been doing this for a while. Really have there act together. If you like diners, you'll love this place.

Yelp
Wow. I actually worked here as a young teen. The original owners would likely roll over in their graves if they saw how things have gone downhill. Of particular concern, a group of us ladies went for lunch after a day out. We were met by a large, very senior, very grumpy woman. She directed us to a booth, grumpily saying - "by the window!!" Then she brought over menus and napkins and silverware that was wrapped in plastic. She LITERALLY threw it at the table. I am guessing she is so immobile that it is hard for her to bend, but she had to be the absolute most unpleasant restaurant employee I have come across. She also checked us out, and once again, was just miserable and not very efficient, having made mistakes on two of our checks. All of our lunch dishes were acceptable, but boy, with "hostessing' like this, she sure made people feel about as unwelcome as possible.

Rich S.

Yelp
Don't go there. Service was bad. Food was bad. It took over a an hour to be served all our food. We waited for the main course 20 minutes between the soup and bread course until the main dish was served. the bread was stale. And the piggies were cold and tasteless. The staff was more interested in getting orders out than waiting customers. Not even a Hello when you entered nor any apology why the food was so late. Don't go there last time I was there was over a year and I thought it would change but it hasn't good luck go somewhere else.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Hey, it's a diner! The front is classic railroad car design, with a couple of cute rooms added on. I went there during Peach Festival, so there was an extra breakfast rush between the locals and festival attendees. They were busy but kept up with the crowd. Prices are reasonable, and the freshly ground coffee is good. The first morning They gave me extra-crispy bacon. The second time I went the bacon was just exactly perfect. If you're choosing between a diner and Waffle House, choose Terry's.

Yelp
Ordered takeout on a rainy day through Grubhub. Went for the french toast and plain omlette. Both were reasonably priced and I liked reading through some great reviews. Food arrived cold but it could have been Grubhub's fault as well. Taste-wise, it was good except with no salt. I wish they keep that in mind the next time.

Richard M.

Yelp
Food was ok. Stopped after nightshift to try their breakfast out this the second time around. Bunch of people walking in though the handicap entrance at 7:50 but they don't open until 8. So I walked to the front entrance to get in and it was locked and the staff just looked at me like an idiot while they let the old timer regulars in the side. If you aren't a regular they don't care about your business.

Yelp
I love this place, Everytime my boyfriend comes in we come here many times during his visits. Breakfast is amazing and is served all day along with some good coffee, which is never ever half empty. The Spanish omelette is especially delicious. Lunch and dinner is good too, many items to choose from as well. Service is always so friendly and welcoming, definitely one of my favorite places to eat at. Has it's own charm that a lot of other American diners struggle to achieve sometimes. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The food is good. Standard diner fair. Service was adequate. I would try them again in the future.

Yelp
Terry's might not be fancy, but the food is tasty, the service is friendly and attentive, the menu is large, and breakfast is served all day. Bob had the hot hamburger sandwich, fries, and applesauce. I wasn't feeling my best so I kept to just a BEC panini. Bob's sandwich was massive and was only outsized by the steak fries, which easily would have been enough for 3 people. My panini was tasty and uncomplicated, and is sitting well on my queasy stomach. If you're looking for diner classics with some updated options, you won't go wrong here. There were at least three customers there who gave the impression that they were there at least several times a week. While the decor and tables and booths were old, they were relatively well maintained and more importantly they were very clean. Neither of us visited the bathroom so I can't speak for that.

Yelp
Amazing service very nice staff place very unique and fast service I will be going again

Yelp
There are not quite a lot of establishments in today's world which have rich history and been around for a while serving customers, Terry's diner does fall into those one of a kind places because of it's rich history. It's an authentic 1950's diner which serves authentic diner food in great ambiance(with stainless steel, terrazzo floor, and juke box). The space at Terry's is divided into 3 sections mainly the counter top seating , casual dining section, and another elegant dining section mainly for parties and banquets. In the true tradition of diners, the menu is very extensive listing over 200 items - from breakfast (served anytime) to sandwiches, wraps, subs, salads, and full course dinners. We came here twice during our recent stay in the area. We tried a couple of things like house special soup, grilled chesse, chocolate chip pancakes & fish entree. The food is good but not awesome though the service is really good.

Yelp
we walked in about 2 minutes after they opened on Sunday morning. The staff was friendly, all social distance guidelines/restrictions were posted and followed. it is a real classic dinng car! the story on menu cover was engaging and everything was delicious. By the time we left (maybe 45mins later?) the place was full with reservations being made. I cant wait to go back. Terri

Yelp
Stopped in on 5/18/22 for lunch because being an old-style diner with stainless steel cladding on the outside made it look interesting in passing, and the hope was there that a good old fashioned value and quality meal would be had. Well, the old adage about not judging a book by its cover holds true. The diner is closely surrounded by ramshackle motel like structures, half of which are boarded up. The food was mediocre at best, and the description of the meals were deceiving. Example: One lunch special was a platter of 2 Texas Weiners with fries. I had to order that. Who can pass up Texas Weiners? What I received were two tiny hot dogs (literally the size of Vienna sausages) on half size buns with chili, onions, and mustard (all pretty bland). The steak fries were soggy with oil and undercooked. The expectation clearly was to get full size hot dogs, but alas, rip-off was the name of the game here. Pass it up. Don't fall for their nonsense. Your taste buds will thank you.

Yelp
Diners come a dime a dozen but this one is packed full for a reason. Upon entering the dinner I was immediately greeted with a wonderful small-town vibe. Everyone inside the diner seemed to know each other and the atmosphere was lively. My wife and I both had breakfast and coffee. Neither one of us had any complaints and recommend to anyone in the area.
google avatar

Eileen H.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night around 10 pm craving a patty melt. A sign on the door read that they close at 11:00 p.m. but stop serving food at 10:30 p.m. I felt a little bad going in so close to closing and I was the only one in there but I was greeted by a friendly waitress. And the food was spot on!

Yelp
I'm a diner girl. I'd take a diner over a chain processed food restaurant any day. Terry's Diner doesn't disappoint. It's just real people making real food. It's not fancy or whatnot. It's food. And one place I'll let my toddler take a bit of my food bc it's real food. There have been times when the food wasn't totally great but everyone has an off day.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. Plentiful servings of well prepared food. Large menu, something for every taste. We only had breakfast, but I have no reason to doubt it is just as good.
google avatar

Rob D.

Yelp
Terrible service and the waitresses were practically brain dead and rude. Food was okay. Would not recommend

Mike G.

Yelp
Classic American diner food and really does not disappoint. Food is good, fairly priced and overall service is always good.

Yelp
Stopped in one morning for breakfast before a funeral. It had all of the charm of a typical New Jersey diner. Excellent food, excellent prices, fast service. Will return
google avatar

Julia B.

Yelp
Terry's has some of the quickest service around this area and also largest menu. I've never been disappointed going here. Since we're local we go at least once or twice a week. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner is great. The pot roast is my absolute favorite. Open faced turkey sandwich dinners are good. Paninis are good. Give this place a try... don't understand why they don't have a higher rating.
google avatar

Shawn H.

Yelp
As long as you are OK with indoor smoking at diners... and if you REALLY LIKE diners, Terry's is a great place--especially late at night in this area! If you don't like cigarette smoke, you probably shouldn't go to diners anyway, but if you like great diner food, grab a booth and get ready to eat. I am not from the area and have only been once, so there may be some who disagree with my opinion that Terry's is fantastic, the services is excellent, the prices can't be beat and they're open late! What more can anyone ask for?
google avatar

Gretchen E.

Yelp
The folks at Terry's are the kindest and most helpful I've ever met. We were in Moosic for the first time and there was no delivery where we were. I went to Terry's and they offered me the take out menu and our diner was prompt and wonderful. I highly recommend them to any traveler.

Yelp
Wonderful diner for breakfast. Friendly staff, great food, never too busy. Their potato pancakes are phenomenal.

Renee B.

Yelp
there was food on floor under are table oor was dirty . not worth the time and food was tasess and minimal
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Excellent example of a hole-in-the-wall diner. Great breakfasts though not all that flexible on health options - for example sugar free syrup for pancakes, they do have a few gluten free options though.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Had their excellent pot roast dinner. It came with salad, a basket of various breads,a vegetable and potatoes. All for $11.95. Coffee was excellent too. Their chicken soup was also great. Friendly and attentive waitstaff. What more can you ask?

Melissa S.

Yelp
Whenever my cousin and I travel to PA. this is the ONLY diner we go to. Staff is super friendly and welcoming. Food is always made fast. Very fresh and extremely tasty! Nice portions for affordable prices.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying I had higher hopes for this place. Upon pulling in and parking , I noticed the slum apartments in the back. Black mold all over the building like a science experiment. Grass growing in the cracks in the steps to the front door . Go in get seated , wallpaper peeling off the walls , menus were so stained , one had hair in it. And then the flys all over . Took forever to get a waitress. By time I ordered and got my food I had aged 20 years. French fries we're like a wet noodle, my chicken was still clucking.Pretty much a mess the whole experience They were nice Enough to alter the bill. After arguing like we were on jerry springer. Upon leaving and consulting with my friends in the parking lot. We noticed one of the cooks had come running out of the kitchen and ran into the wonderful barely held together apartments That surround the back of this place . My meal was probably cooked on the George Forman grill on his back porch. I've been to a lot of places to eat in my life , I imagine prison food is better then this
google avatar

Bill F.

Yelp
Lunch and dinner always good never bad experience I get the movie /dinner combo from time to time typical diner food

Duncan S.

Yelp
We just needed a bite to eat mid road trip, chose Terry's at random, and it was perfect. Great food, great prices, convenient portion options, and some cool things you don't normally see on diner menus where I live. Go for the cheeseburger and pierogis.
google avatar

Barbara S.

Yelp
I like diner food. The prices are fair and the variety always has something from which to choose. The staff is friendly and the food tasty.
google avatar

Tasha N.

Yelp
Great little diner , very good food and friendly atmosphere . Its more along the lines of a traditional diner so it's tight space wise and usually pretty packed.

Amanda ..

Yelp
Horrible, HORRIBLE SERVICE I put in a reservation over a month ago for Mother's Day, and they put me down for EASTER!!! I tried calling to find out WHAT HAPPENED and they hung up on me!!!! Never again!

Carol G.

Yelp
My husband and I got 2 takeout dinners for Mother's Day they were delicious!! The amount of food we received was huge !! Thank you Terry's for cooking our Mothers Day dinner !!

Tanya M.

Yelp
Ate here on Saturday and ending up with food poisoning. Staff looked dirty. Diner was dirty . Never again. Ordered basic food which was horrible.
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Classic PA diner...simple but good. Food was average/good and priced decently. The Irish soda bread in the bread basket was freaking delicious. If I lived nearby I'd be in there all the time just for that bread. Our waitress was phenomenal. Probably one of the best servers we've ever had. Super attentive and so sweet with our daughters. We'll definitely eat here again when we're in the area.
google avatar

Upneet K.

Yelp
Its a huge dinner divided in three sections. They offer more than 200 dishes including breakfast brunch nd dinner items. I tried couple of things including house special soup, grilled cheese sandwich, chocolate chip pan cake. I liked grilled cheese, that was crisp and fresh. Pan cakes were ok ok The food is good but its not awesome.
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
Has always been my local favorite. Wonderful friendly staff, amazingly tasty food, my only 2 recommendations would be switch to coke products and larger side salads. Their Italian dressing is YUMMY!!!

Susan S.

Yelp
When traveling we always look for local diners & Terrys fit the bill perfectly. Friendly staff and good food.

Brianna W.

Yelp
If you're a gambler, try it. Had breakfast here several times. It's truly hit or miss, either classic and pretty damn tasty diner fare, or not edible. Consistency with kitchen staff would go a long way and I would definitely stop in more often. I got tired of the 50/50. Unless you like it weak, skip the coffee.

James H.

Yelp
Just got back from Terry's with my husband, we haven't been there for quite awhile. After getting our breakfast we realized why. Service was good, meal was awful. My husband ordered the feta and cheese omelette which was dry as a bone along with potato pancakes which had to be the frozen variety and just thrown in oil to heat them up, they were truly awful. I ordered the 222, the eggs were good the bacon overdone and the sausages were ok. The pancakes however were chewy, I've never had chewy pancakes before, I tried eating them but could only get down 1/3 of them. The hostess asked how our meal was as I was paying I expected at least an apology but didn't even get that. So were done with terry's my advice, eat at your own risk. Jim H.
