"This neighborhood bakery wins over West Bankers with its glazed doughnut, apple fritter, and 24/7 hours on weekends. Its appeal extends beyond Terrytown, however — the Times-Picayune has awarded it as having the best doughnuts in all of New Orleans, and for the best value." - Eater Staff

Google
Best affordable breakfast and lunch spot in the new Orleans area. And the doughnuts are off the chain. Quality service, and quality local folks from the Gretna area. Definitely in my rotation. Best cheese grits in town also. And as far as the battle of the best hot glazed goes, they are definitely amongst the best!

The store was closed down a while back because the manager tried to unalive herself. At least that's what I was told..and apparently her boyfriend told all the employees as well as the customers. I hope she dumped him! Her late husband started the business and after he died, his wife, Lynne, took over. She will run the business into the ground because she has no backbone and poor management skills. She prefers to keep a leaching, homeless vagrant in there for hours, eating sugar packets all day intimidating the customers by acting insane. Its very uncomfortable while he's in there. A waitress tried to get him to leave and he wouldn't. So she called the cops to remove him from the property but the manager, Lynne, told the waitress to not do that and that he could stay so the waitress quit on the spot. I don't blame her. Why would ANYONE want to work for someone who doesn't care about the safety of her employees or customers??. They say he's harmless. Maybe he is...until he isn't. This place won't last much longer due to the poor management, giving unlimited free food to her friends, employees and their friends as well. It's a shame she takes sides with a homeless man, laughing hysterically and pulling his hair out, dropping hair and dirt all over the counter top, being no help, over a waitress doing her job trying to get by in life. Ill never return. I read a review on google where someone said they were racist cause of the treatment they saw given to a black waitress. I don't believe they're racist. They have a click vibe. If you don't fit in, you won't. Its pretty bad when management says to take a 20 from the register at the end of closing shift as an incentive to do their job...wowww. It really is a shame. The manager is too nice for her own good. The donuts are good and so is the food. A bit over priced but, what isn't over priced these days?

Holy fuk this place is great I’ve gotten donuts so many times, and I’ve also gotten the chicken strips and French fries 🍟 and cheese fries and bacon omg and the sliders aren’t bad. The service can be a little sketchy but they don’t do that bad for a small donut shop on the corner. Pretty solid.

Google
Delish. I have family that has come here for years. Those hot glazed doughnuts are quite possibly the best I have ever eaten. We also had the hot breakfast and it was very good.

Stephenie Stack

Google
This place is like a whole in the wall would never thought the food an donuts would be so dam good. If you come out here you have to try them. The lady was so sweet they have the best hospitality out here.

Dana

Google
Donuts were gross and undone. One bite left a linger nasty and uncomfortable uncooked dough taste in my mouth. On top of it all, they had the nerve to charge 10dollars for the four glazed donuts and 16oz milk. When the Asian lady went to the back ,I thought she would be bringing out hot donuts since there were some in the front already but instead she bypassed the ones in the front for donuts that were not only cold but undone after biting into them.

Rena Balestra

Google
Don’t advertise classic 24/7 donut shop when you close before dinner. Might want to make that adjustment. I fought the bc traffic to get there for some mini burgers to find out they were already closed at 6pm.

Brittany Williams

Google
My chocolate frosted donut was delicious but my cinnamon cake donut was doughy.

Teira R.

Yelp
They make McKenzie's Cinnamon Rolls!! Never actually had a McKenzies one, but my older family raves about them. If they are anything like this, then they were amazing! The cinnamon rolls here are so soft and fluffy. I love their Blueberry Cake Donuts. The cakey soft texture and taste are just right, and not overly sweet. I couldn't decide between sweet and salty during my visit, so I also got the Sausage Egg Bacon & Cheese Grits Bowl. A delicious mixture, only problem is they use old crumbled bacon and the grits are not creamy at still. Staff is very friendly and welcoming, they get the line down fast!

Maia S.

Yelp
Good was ok, but I ordered through Uber so I'm sure that has something to do with it being cold!

David G.

Yelp
It's nice to find a breakfast lunch spot, which is locally owned, delicious, affordable, and well staffed. The hot glaze doughnut here is in the running for the best in the city! Eggs and grits are great here as well. But the grilled cheese chicken sandwich really caught me off guard. I didn't expect it to be that good! Great local doughnut spot, one of the best anywhere!

Huda K.

Yelp
Does anyone know what happened??? They haven't been open for weeks and it's my boys favorite place for donuts ??

Dac C.

Yelp
Why this donut place was closed. Just this pass Tuesday it's open again. Their donuts are so good I really wish they could have more glazed chocolate donuts. Thanks!

Tarita T.

Yelp
Down and around the street we go to Terrytown Cafe & Donuts. I did not have many expectations for this establishment except for getting good donuts. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they serve more than just donuts. However, I just got donuts. Something to try out, the next time I am in the area. One of the things that I like is that they sell huge gigantic donuts at the counter. These donuts are the size of dinner plates and they do not have to be pre-ordered. If you are lucky to see them, I would buy one just because you can. Some of these donuts are not your average. I got to try their figure 8 donut which is a play on a twister donut. It was tasty and I enjoyed eating it. Another donut I ate was their lemon filled which I was surprised to see was not powdered but glazed. However, I liked it. I would get it again! They had other donuts like chocolate glazed and an assortment of creme filled donuts. Terrytown definitely has a variety of donuts to try and I can't wait to go back for breakfast/lunch and for more donuts. The staff were nice and pleasant which made the overall journey to Terrytown worth the trip.

Karen K.

Yelp
Where I grew up, we only had a shipleys. So I know good donuts. AND THESE are amazing! I'm a glazed donut or donut hole type of girl with a glass of milk. I'm sure all the other flavors are great but trust me, I know what I like, okayyyy? Anyways, the first time I went here was great. Then I don't know if something happen the second visit so I stopped going. I thought I give other places a try BUT NOTHING compares to Terrytown Cafe (with the exception of Shipleys, sorry, my first donut love). They have sooo many options, apple fritters, chocolate covered and even chocolate donut holes (on my list next time). I swear I'm craving a donut now that I am typing this. Along with that, they serve breakfast and lunch. AND GUESS WHAT? THEY HAVE CASTLE BURGERS aka Krystal burgers in my mind and they taste exactly the same. I might leave work and grab some now...

Cole M.

Yelp
Terrytown Cafe is a MUST. Hot and fresh every time. I live in Delaware, and every time New Orleans is brought up, Terrytown is the first thought in my mind. I recommend it to people before I even think about Cafe du Monde, po boy spots, and other tourist attractions. I will die saying that Terrytown has the best donuts in the world. I truly have not tasted anything better. A simple glaze is my go to!

Krystal R.

Yelp
The people are always nice, and the food is what you expect of a cafe. They seem to be closed most nights, even though the hours say 24/7. But definitely stop here if you want good donuts!

Sarah H.

Yelp
Terrytown Cafe is my favorite donut shop anywhere & most certainly a hidden gem! Every time I visit the city I have to stop in (usually multiple times) to get their donuts. They always have the most fresh selections and are friendly! Make sure to stop in early though as they do sell out!

Essence S.

Yelp
I'm doing this high of a rating because I loved this place. The sweetest lady used to work there but I think she passed on a while ago. She was so amazing at her job and greeting her customers when they came in early mornings or late nights. But now they never seem to be open anymore or they are out of something Really did love this place

Cutie P.

Yelp
I went there for a quick breakfast before heading into work . The pleasant smile of fresh coffee and warm donuts hits your senses instantly :) . The employees are kind and definitely handle multitasking well. Fairly small , but if they have plans for expansion in the near future ; it'll definitely work in there favor! The decor of the history shows but for me I'm kind of a history buff so its works !

Nicole A.

Yelp
Cozy Cafe that delivers! Best donuts in town and the Special omelette oh my! This special has my heart! An omelette with everything crispy bacon, sausage, cheese, hash browns all tucked inside.

Nessa G.

Yelp
I love the chicken and waffles and the breakfast sandwich. The donuts are delicious as well. The ladies who work here are super sweet and make the atmosphere welcoming.

Acrealle A.

Yelp
King Cake calories don't count! I'm on my 4th king cake of the season and I'm not stopping yet. Look at this beautiful king cake from Terrytown Cafe. Their king cakes are made with their donut dough and submerged in a FRYER the same as how some of their donuts are cooked. Each king cake is made and decorated fresh daily with glaze and topped with colored sugar and sprinkles. They only keep a certain amount of king cakes in store daily, so placing an order for one would be best. It literally tastes like a donut , I just wanted more glaze.

Hana N.

Yelp
I love their mini cheeseburgers and sweet potato fries! Their donuts are okay. Not the best in the city, but I still enjoy them.

Benjamin P.

Yelp
This little building will always be my childhood and every day, every morning for years eating here before school! The staff were always the friendliest, and I've always idolized this little cafe because it reminded me of simpler times, of course I am speaking through love tinted glasses so I came again and see if it is as good as my mind recalled, and it was! The smell, the atmosphere, the aesthetic, the staff, all of it is just a whiff of personality, it's simplistic. And the donuts are the best, to me. I prefer these over major franchises such as Krispy Kreme. As an official adult I walked into those same doors that I used to walk through as a child before his first day of school. And I was met with a warm welcome, and I spoke of how I used to frequent the cafe as a kid. And they listened and we had a well thought and heart felt discussing of our experiences with this particular cafe. It doesn't speak much off of looks alone. But it makes up for it in everything else!

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
Super disapppointed tonight... Bought a dozen donuts from them and while delicious... They only gave me 11. So make sure to count your donuts before you leave :( Donuts are still good though, I just DETEST being overcharged and not getting enough... Especially when I'm bringing them to work and don't have enough for all of my co-workers. Also, the cream filled donuts this time were kind of nasty tasting... Sour. Tasted as if they had accidentally mixed their lemon flavoring with the cream filling. That or it was spoiled? Either way, definitely not my favorites this time around. I used to really like this place, but now I'm not sure if it's worth the drive all the way out to the West bank just for donuts.

Chris M.

Yelp
I can't tell you how amazing this King Cake is. First off, I'm a native who detests gimmick King Cakes, especially those created by millennials who think apricot and duck fat go together. Second, a transplant can be conned into thinking anything is authentic New Orleans. This is the real deal for anyone who remembers those old yellow-roofed Tastee Donuts King Cakes of the 1970s and 80s. No gross icing and it doesn't require a forklift to move it. Large crystals of granulated sugar and nonpareils make it look old school too. In my opinion, it's far lighter and disappears quickly because it's one of those that you can't just have one or two pieces. It's totally worth the drive to the West Bank for this treasure that's reasonably priced. Pay a little extra and get the large, especially if you're sharing it with more than a couple of people.

Julia W.

Yelp
I used to love this place since it is so close to my house.I do not know what has happened to the baker..but over the last few months, I feel as if the quality of the doughnuts have declined. Granted, I do get my doughnuts after dinner as a dessert instead of early in the morning, but it is still no excuse to have doughnuts that taste like they are from yesterday. The last time I went there, even my glazed doughnut tasted dry and old..the sugar icing could not even moisten it enough. The doughnut also had this moisture on the icing like it came from the cooler. Yikes! My powdered bavarian creme was even worse, the dough was so dry, the outer part was hard and had a slight crunchiness to it, instead of a pillowy softness. So unsatisfying and disappointing...Sigh. They have also recently increased their prices and updated some of their menu items on the board. I think it's great that this place is trying to venture out a little more, but if you are going to add new items and increase prices, you will also need to continue to find better ways to upkeep and improve quality. Even a late night doughnut should not taste like it was from the fridge from yesterday's batch. It will probably be a little while until I come back to visit. I think I will give Joe's cafe who is just a little further down the street a try, until the quality improves. There's been too many hits and misses.

Yelp
This place is a great 24 hour stop! Cheap and good and friendly service to boot! We had 5 mini cheeseburgers, fries, two drinks and two donuts the bill was $8.56 after tax! I am glad I had cash because I am a firm believer in being a generous tipper; especially in small cheap diners BE AWARE they don't have a place for tipping if you use a credit/debit cards. I saw two people but donuts and wanted to tip the sweet girl but they don't have tipping when you use a credit card and most people who use cards don't have cash. Try this place! Late night? Want cheap good eats? Sweet tooth for a donut at 1am? Go here! Just remember your tip money if you use cards!

Rachel T.

Yelp
Fantastic staple on the Westbank! A family business that constantly delivers. On our first trip we ran in to tame our sweet tooth and felt at home right away. The donuts are fantastic, our most recent visit was later in the day, so while we did pick up today's wares they might not have been original hot- but still outstanding. From donut holes to King Cake, and of course our favorites- the Who Dat themed we are never disappointed.

Sara L.

Yelp
Welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, fresh hot pastries. The breakfast biscuit sandwiches are my favorite. Love this place!

George A.

Yelp
Like Ashley B., this review is only for the donuts and not having been in the shop. My sister lives close by to this place and her and her boyfriend pick up donuts from here quite a bit, so we thought it would be a good way to start our Thanksgiving morning before the feast commenced. Her BF picked up a dozen...six glazed and six chocolate frosted. I tried one of each with a glass of milk and they were both delicious. They were fresh, soft, and chewy. The glazed have the more liquidy kind of glaze (I'm thinking due to freshness) so you'll need a napkin. There not huge donuts, and I think there about $4 a dozen. I probably could have downed about 5 or 6, but I didnt...

Curtis C.

Yelp
I normally rate Terrytown Donates five stars but made it only four because I asked for 'Hot Glazed' and received cold donuts for the day before. I was there a bit before 0600 hours to get donuts for the voting precinct workers where I am the CIC... They were not bad and most were eaten but do not tell me 'hot glazed' when they are cold day old...

Nikkie N.

Yelp
Every morning they serve fresh hot glazed donuts ! The best. Better than Krispy Kreme and any other franchises donut place. I love their blueberry cake donuts too, definitely a must try if you have never had it. Terrytown Cafe is a great spot for breakfast and/or late night snacking. With their new menu additions, I can see them being a lunch spot as well. The mini-cheese burger reminds me of the frozen White Castle burgers my mom use to purchase at Sam's Club. Ah, nostalgia. Staff is always friendly! Oh, & can't tip on CC, so bring in a few bucks for tip!

Dina Z.

Yelp
I've been coming here forever. It's familiar and laid back. Good food, good service. I love a simple cup of coffee and this place does it right. Donuts are fresh and well stocked.

Lester F.

Yelp
Even though I love the apple fritters and do like the food here " breakfast " to be exact I am not too fond of how they greet customers, I am very big on customer service and if it was up to me due to the customer service I would not go back there but since I have not found another place where they have apple fritters well Until then I'll have to ignore being ignored when a customer comes in to this place and just tough it out and swallow my dislike on their service.

Adam S.

Yelp
This place was definitely worth going to!!! Awesome customer service and the chicken tenders & fries were amazing!!! We also bought donuts for our family and they loved all the varieties we picked!! We loved this place plus it was very clean!!!

Dan R.

Yelp
This rating is strictly based on the donuts and apple fritter. The cafe itself is take it or leave it territory in my opinion, but 90% of the people that come through aren't there to hang around anyways. Ever since the Times-Pic awarded the Terrytown Cafe with best donut award, I have been frequenting this spot that has been hiding in plain sight just off the main drag. No matter the time of day or night, they'll have donuts ready to be snagged. However, if you really want that true 5-star donut experience, catch em fresh when their rush starts at 6am. I swear that half the on duty Jeff Parish cops are running through there at that hour for a quick bite and a cheap coffee. And if they offer you to hang tight white the fresh donuts are about to be ready, take them up on that offer and wait the extra few minutes. Impossibly fluffy, balanced flavor of doughy sweetness without anything out of place. This is what Homer Simpson would demand if he were a New Orleanean.

David R.

Yelp
Grabbed some donuts from here today for the first time. Parking was limited. The lady that helped me had terrible customer service. I felt that she was annoyed that I walked through the door. She seemed even more annoyed when I had questions about the donuts. I bought a dozen glazed and they tasted like they were sitting out all night. Next time I'm in the mood for donuts I'll suck it up and take a longer drive to Joe's Cafe. I most likely will not return to this place.

Rachel R.

Yelp
I've been eatin donuts all my life, like most of us... I have to say, this place has THE BEST donuts I have ever tasted. I'm pretty simple so I ate the glazed donut and donut holes, both equally amazing. They're so fluffy and perfect. Other folks tried the blueberry cake and jelly-filled, which were also highly praised. If you're lookin for your favorite new donut shop on the Westbank, give this place a try. The girls working the counter were also very friendly and quick. You won't be disappointed!!

Laura J.

Yelp
Best donuts in the city! Always fresh and delicious and friendly staff always ready to take your order. Terrytown Cafe is a WestBank staple and for as long as I can remember, we have enjoyed the donuts.

Eddie C.

Yelp
This is our first stop out the door when we head down to Parasols for St Patty's day block party. Need to load up on some grease before the all beer and Jameson binge. I have had the breakfast and mini burgers. Cant go wrong with either. The donuts are really good, perfect when hot and fresh. If you have time or are feeling all breakfasty in T-town, swing by here. You wont be disappointed. Seating can be limited sometimes due to all of the people wearing glittery green on a weekday morning.

Kelley T.

Yelp
Terrytown donuts is definitely the best on the westbank. The staff is always friendly and works fast, even when it's really busy. The donuts and King cakes are delicious.

Ana N.

Yelp
Seriously.... I ordered 3 chicken sliders with cheese plus mayo.... Bread is hard as a damn brick... Chicken is fried in old grease... It was obviously microwaved because the cheese is like plastic.... Wouldn't feed this shyt to a dying dog... Never a-damn-gain

Jasmine H.

Yelp
I LOVE DONUTS! Particularly old-fashioned donuts. I'm not a fan of those massive trendy donuts with a bunch of random toppings. Terrytown Cafe serves up the donuts of my childhood. I got the hot original glazed donut and it was perfection - soft, warm and fluffy. They had your regular donut shop assortment of flavors: original glazed, chocolate glazed, plain cake, sourcream cake, blueberry cake, apple fritters, etc. They also had some other pastries like cinnamon rolls, muffins, and danishes. Everything is super cheap; my donut and small coffee was $2.65. Another plus is the fact that this place is bustling, so there is really high turnover and they're constantly bringing out new trays of fresh donuts. The workers were super sweet despite how busy they were. My friend summed it up really well: this is where the locals go; the trendy new shops Uptown are full of New Orleanians who moved here within the last 5 years (nothing wrong with that - I am clearly one of them). If you're looking for classic donuts and great service, this is the place to go!

Dallas T.

Yelp
Service was short and inattentive. Place is dirty. Breakfast is utterly disgusting. I don't know what they did to my eggs and grits but I left the whole plate on the table. I have never had eggs taste stale. It was extremely off putting. And the grits had a weird almost metallic taste I have never experienced. The mini burgers are your token frozen castle style burgers, so exactly what you expect. The best part of this meal were the delicious chicken tenders. Literally the only thing that tasted fresh. Unless I go in for donuts, I will never order food there again. It's hard to screw up a donut. I was so hungry and left extremely turned off from food.

Denise K.

Yelp
I've been coming here when it was originally a Tastee Doughnut shop, over thirty years ago. And went to Livaudais Middle School. But when Tastee went out of business, It became Terrytown doughnuts and cafe. It's been here ever since. But this is the first time I've reviewed it. This one of the few places in and around New Orleans that still reminded me of the original McKenzie's bakery doughnuts. These are old fashioned kind with a little substance. Not collapsing puffs of air and sugar which are So popular now. I love the original glazed but their apple fritter is my favorite. And of course the glazed chocolate too. The other good thing about here is that it's always been open 24 hour a day. They were open not long after Katrina hit. I would get a box of doughnuts and bring them with me to sooth me while l cleaned out my flooded house. I ate a lot of Terrytown doughnuts during those dark days. The staff have always been friendly and they love to talk to you. Of course this being an older establishment, the fixtures are worn from use. A sure sign of good eats. But they're always clean. Oh and they have good Community coffee too.

Carmen P.

Yelp
The ladies up front were super nice and let us know which doughnuts were hot. They took our group of 8 with good speed and didn't seem annoyed at our wandering eyes. I got two Boston creams. The Boston's were very good. My friend wasn't to keen on her fritter but said it was good. A few others got chicken strips and loved them. Overall great place and i would come back if we ever make our way back to terrytown

Seth C.

Yelp
This was my first time in and I really enjoyed it. I came from a small town, and this place made me feel like home. I had some of the mini burgers, and I gotta say they hit the spot. I topped off the meal with a chocolate raised donut that practically melted in my mouth. As far as atmosphere goes it's a tiny little place but that's part of its charm. The waitress was very friendly and I was immediately served when I walked in which is a big plus for me. I could tell that this was a major staple in people's lives and coming here was a part of their routine. I felt very comfortable and I will be back to enjoy more of those delicious donuts.

Jess F.

Yelp
My favorite thing about living in Terrytown is that Terrytown Cafe is right around the corner!! My belly and my wallet loves it completely, I highly recommend them!!! By far the best doughnuts and breakfast biscuits around!!

Tanner C.

Yelp
Who doesn't like donuts? These donuts rule and the variety is awesome. They're open 24hrs and the shelves are always stocked full. Couldn't pass up the massive apple fritters that were staring us in the face when we walked in, glad we bought one. It's been a day and I'm still working my way through it. Also snagged a dozen donuts, tried to not eat all 12 in a single sitting. Lots of choices, even late at night, and the service was great. Came home, ate 2 of the 12 right away, and then passed out. I would gladly go back to this place, really a great little place.

Nijel B.

Yelp
I love this place. My son and I have breakfast here once a month. The service is friendly. The donut holes are really good. I have finally learned what hot glaze stands for......

Samuel A.

Yelp
A great, hidden place for late night donuts. They have substance and are delicious. They don't skimp on the filling for their donuts!

Kyle B.

Yelp
I just went to get some donuts here and when I got home I was very disappointed when I started eating the said donuts. I think these cinnamon rolls and donut holes were made yesterday. They were very hard to the point of being crunchy. At least my dogs got a nice treat. On a positive note the service was very good.

R K.

Yelp
This is what you expect from a good local dinner. Breakfast was nothing fancy, just simply good. Ordered eggs, hash brown, biscuit and gravy; it was brought out fast and as ordered. Folks were nice and attentive. Donut was great too. The place is small with limited parking. I think all but maybe one table is seating at the diner bar, looking at all the awesome looking donuts. I would gladly eat here again.

Vivian H.

Yelp
If you're looking for some cheap bites, coffee, or donuts, this 24-hour joint can hook you up! Right as I walk in, I can already see the fresh, pillow-y donuts seducing me from their shelves. There is a nice assortment of simple goodness, such as glazed, chocolate glazed, buttermilk, apple crumble, powdered, etc. Don't worry, baby, they've got your chocolate covered sprinkle donuts, too! They also have donut holes, muffins, and other pastries as well. I haven't actually tried any of the real food here, and I might never get the chance if the donuts don't stop distracting me.. Really though, donuts at any hour of the day? There is hope for humanity after all.

Miukat O.

Yelp
First day in New Orleans and we were kind of stuck on the West Bank in the morning. Took a chance on this place and we weren't disappointed! We were greeted with a hot, fresh glazed doughnut to try. Divine! Coffee was delicious, and breakfast was filling and inexpensive. Cute local spot. Can't wait to go back and try the burgers! Open 24 hrs.

Marielle S.

Yelp
This is a great little neighborhood coffee shop. They serve coffee, donuts, breakfast and the usual coffee house faire. The place is family owned by an awesome guy named Phil Songy and the staff is really nice and personable. If you come in, you will be made to feel like a part of the team. My favorites are the jelly donut holes and the apple fritter.
