"Gildardo Preciado owns a Colombian restaurant in East Boston called Tertulias Cafe. At the beginning of the pandemic, he cooked and managed the entire operation by himself. Without the ability to ask employees for help due to COVID requirements during the initial shutdown, he took on every job in the restaurant, from cooking to cleaning to managing delivery orders. Even now, with the lack of customers due to the continuing effects of the pandemic, it’s difficult to bring in revenue." - Marissa Cardenas

The food was amazing! I always wanted to try this style of pork rinds and I was not disappointed. I would love to visit again. It was a lot of food, so it was pretty easy to get full. The drinks are also delicious. Definitely try the well-made cocktails here when you have the chance.

Went for dinner with a couple of friends. It has a cozy vibe, and the restaurant was full when we reached. We ordered some calamari, pasta, tacos, arepa and a shrimp salad. All the dishes were delicious and the portion sizes were generous. We also ordered some margaritas, and the mango margarita was brilliant. Would highly recommend this place for some South American cuisine. The staff is very friendly and warm as well!

Delicious arepas and drinks. A small place by the food is good. A bit pricey, but still good.

Great food and drinks! I highly recommend dining here very consistent in quality and service.... you may have to wait just a bit....but so worth the wait! I live in the neighborhood and it's definitely one of my go to places to eat. I am a manager for Hilton Hotels and send my guests here for a great Columbian/Venezuelan dining experience! Calvin C.

Tertulias Cafe in East Boston offers a cozy, inviting atmosphere and a menu that celebrates authentic Latin American flavors. Known for its warm ambiance and friendly staff, this cafe is a local favorite for those seeking a mix of traditional and modern Latin-inspired dishes. The menu includes a variety of flavorful options, such as arepas, empanadas, and hearty breakfasts, each prepared with fresh ingredients and an emphasis on authenticity. Their coffee is also excellent, featuring rich, smooth brews that pair well with pastries or breakfast options. One of the standout items is their Venezuelan-style arepas, filled with perfectly seasoned meats and fresh toppings, which are both satisfying and delicious. Tertulias also offers freshly-made juices and smoothies that add a refreshing touch, especially popular during the warmer months. The staff is welcoming, attentive, and happy to provide recommendations. Prices are reasonable, making it a great spot for a casual meal or coffee break. While the space is small and can get busy, especially on weekends, it adds to the charm and community feel of the place. Overall, Tertulias Cafe Restaurant provides an authentic taste of Latin America in the heart of East Boston, making it a must-visit for both locals and newcomers.

Small space. Not a lot table space. Efficient but not overly friendly service. Good drinks. Food is tasty but heavily salted.

Yelp
First time trying Columbian food and it slapped so hard. I love the plates and it was very savory, crunchy, and filling. The price was worth the amount of food you got, along with the quality as well. The servers were also super friendly and made sure we had a good time there (they also gave Columbian candy and gave me extra because I loved it so much). The service is great there! The place itself was clean and seems like a lot of locals like to chill there, which was great.

Yelp
I've had a hard time finding arepas in Boston and most of the arepas are Venezuelan, so I was very excited to see that they have Colombian arepas here. The arepas are very big and range from $5 for a simple cheese arepa to $18 depending on what toppings are on it. I ordered a carne desmechada arepa ($13.20) and arepa paisa ($15.60). Both arepas were very dry and the surface completely hardened so the arepas were hard to cut with a knife. They were piled HIGH with meat. The meat had great seasoning and flavor; the shredded beef was juicy and the chicharron was very crunchy. Sadly, the carne desmechada arepa only came with two tiny pieces of avocado! I also got an order of yuca fries ($4.80). The fries were more firm than fluffy on the inside. I probably wouldn't get these again. I might come here for their entrees because their meat is tasty, but I would look for a different place if I crave arepas.

Yelp
I am definitely coming back with here every week! The food is amazing and the low cost makes it even better!

Yelp
The service is good. I ordered Ajiaco it tasted good not like in Colombia but close. Unfortunately the tres leche was not fresh so dry

Cely C.

Yelp
The restaurant is very small and the service was not the best. My family and I ordered appetizers and were only offered it utensils. The server was very inactive.

Yelp
Really good food amazing arepas I'm Venezuelan and the carne mechada was amazing 100% recommended

Yelp
I think this place is fantastic! I've been here twice and have not been disappointed. The first time I came here, I ordered the Pabellon Criolla which was amazing. I believe it's a typical Venezuelan dish and if you are on the fence of what to get, I would definitely recommend getting this plate. The second time I came here I ordered an arepa. Colombia and Venezuela are known for their arepas so when you come here you'll find a lot of different varieties. I ended up getting a bandeja paisa arepa and though I don't typically like arepas, this one was really good. The location is in a busy/congested area so it may be difficult to find parking but I didn't have any issues the times I've gone. The staff were friendly and never had to wait long for my food. Definitely a favorite spot of mine in Eastie!

Brian S.

Yelp
We came in for breakfast this morning and we're very happy we did. Quick and friendly Service Clean and appealing restaurant Delicious arepas (my girlfriend is Colombian and absolutely loved it!)

Franchy H.

Yelp
Glad this place exist. Coming from Miami, there's not a whole lot of places that serve arepas up here. Tertulias has excellent food at excellent prices. Staff is always very welcoming. I've been here plenty of times, and I never leave dissapointed!

Yelp
New place! Colombian and Venezuelan arepas filled with glorious tasty chicken or beef, soooo good. I tried both along with arepa de Chocolo, it's a sweeter arepa. It's small and cozy. Service is excellent! They were super helpful with recommendations and I had two small mishaps with my water that were promptly fixed , no biggie. For my trouble I was compensated with a free coffee that complimented my meal and I will be back to try many more things I saw. 5 stars for this new establishment, highly recommended!

Yelp
Food is not good. 2 stars because they were offering delivery on Christmas Eve & that's nice of them. But the food was very lackluster. I got the reina pepiada arepa & I was less than impressed. There was no flavor in the chicken, just very dry. The avocado was not ripe or combined with the chicken, so there were just chunks of avocado throughout. There was no seasoning, no Mayo that I could taste. Overall just really unimpressed. My mother ordered the "lechona" which we know is not supposed to taste how it did. We are colombian and it is a tradition to have lechona on Christmas. However, this lechona was unflavored and dry. The meat seemed to be cooked separately from the rice, making the flavors very bland. Glad they were up and running on Christmas Eve! But if you're going to make mediocre food that day.. there's really no point in staying open.

Yelp
Two stars only because the food is good. But their service definitely needs improvement. I understand your location is small but something as small as acknowledging your customers when they walk in makes a huge difference. If instead of having to ask how long is the wait, the waitress/server/to-go woman should have let us know the minute she saw us standing in this establishment for more than 10mins. When I proceeded to ask how the king the wait will be, she was rude and commented that clearly they were busy and had no space for us. Rude and it's so unfortunate because the food was yummy last time.

Katie L.

Yelp
Went there today and the service was horrible! Food was not good. Definaly not coming back!

Milo T.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. Very rude, unsympathetic and the owner herself is very rude. And the food is sometimes ok and other days is not and I feel like in a restaurant the food should always be good. Tried to have a good night by going there, but my friends and I decided to leave with that horrible customer service. 1 star is too much for this place.

Susan H.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. While from the outside it doesn't seem like much, it was very clean and comfortable on the inside. They served amazing South American cuisine in generous portions for a great price. This has become a favorite local spot. Amazing food and friendly staff!

Lea L.

Yelp
Right on! Tertulias is super authentic! Forget ordering in english. There, everything happens in Spanish. The food is tasty. Their menu is big enough to fit everyone's needs. Vegetarian, Pescatarian or delicious meat; you got it all! The servers are attentive and the juices are excellent! Tertulias is the kind of place that you go once and then start going again because you are craving it!

Yustin M.

Yelp
I love their sangria, the food is good but if you are looking for a bandeja paisa then this isn't the place to go to. They do have amazing steak and their Venezuela and Colombian arepas are delicious. Service is good. Recommend it

Jacob S.

Yelp

GiGi S.

Yelp
Hidden gem!!! We found this place and went back 3 days in a row every different dish was just absolutely delicious! The sangria was to die for! Can't wait to try other dishes on the menu !

Yelp
The best Colombian restaurant ! Over any other restaurant , everything delicious , a lot of options (no only Colombian food) , and excellent service.

Julian P.

Yelp
Nice, decent and great prices, last time we went, we had fried ribs with arepa and the grilled steak with shrimp on top, both amazing highly recommended.

Andreso ..

Yelp
The best part of this place are the prices! Great quality food, large portions for low prices. I also love that it's small and out of the way. It's great place to relax and catch up with good friends. My wife and I love this place!

Yelp
First time I went, three different servers came to us in a matter of 10 minutes. We were in a rush so we decided to have our food to go. When we went to eat, we realized they had given us completely different food than what we had ordered and paid for. Decided to give it another try and once again disappointed. They forgot our appetizer which wasn't a huge deal, but when we went to pay what a mess! We were using three cards and we explained to our server as clearly as possible how we wanted it split. We got all but what we asked for. We ended up getting charged more than we should've and the server had no idea what she was doing. You can definitely find better food in the area!

Brian D.

Yelp
We went here for a friend's birthday party and were amazed by the food! Large portions for very reasonable prices and great quality. The sangria was also so good that even I enjoyed it even though I generally don't like anything with wine in it. The servers were also very accommodating when my girlfriend ordered a dish without the meat in it as she is vegetarian. We're definitely going to be going back if we're in the neighborhood!

Yelp
Unfortunately, this restaurant is no longer as good as it was when it opened. I recently ordered a Montanero and the chicharron tasted rancid. This was the second chance I gave this restaurant after I had the same experience but that time was with the Colombian Sausage. It is a shame since this restaurant had started so well. I am not one to write reviews however, I feel that this is necessary after my two experiences and after complaining to the waitress and never hearing from the manager.
