The 24 Best Restaurants In Montreal - Montreal - The Infatuation

"The super crispy falafel and thick pita is what keeps us going back to Tesfa, a small, counter-style restaurant in the Plateau. The two owners are brothers who made their way from Eritrea to Montreal, and now have a menu of housemade shawarma and kebabs, plus veggie options (in plate or pita version) served with their zhug. The way they treat eggplant really delivers, though. It comes smoked in the De Maman plate, served with tahini, hummus, pickles, and that zhug. And it’s fried in their signature sabich, slathered with more zhug and a tangy amba mango sauce. You can order out from Tesfa, but the (often Ethiopian) soundtrack and the happy hum in the kitchen make it worth showing up for in person." - ivy lerner frank

Tesfa is an absolute gem. I was visiting from SF for the F1 weekend and ended up eating here 4 days in a row. THAT good. The food is fresh, wholesome and served with a smile. It is evident the owners take great pride in giving you a good experience and homely food. There’s not much to go wrong here and the reviews speak for themselves. Don’t miss it!

If you’re into Mediterranean food, this is the spot! They claim to have the best falafel in Montreal—and it’s true 😁. I also loved the kebab. The ingredients were super fresh, the staff were friendly, and the freshly baked bread was amazing. Probably the best and freshest pitas I’ve had in Montreal. Totally worth the price! The lemonade they recommended was good—nice and sour—but a bit too sweet for our taste 😅.

Google
Fantastic local Mediterranean spot! The menu offers a great variety of flavorful dishes—fresh, vibrant, and perfectly seasoned. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the whole dining experience even better. A hidden gem worth revisiting!

Google
i was super excited to try this place given the lovely reviews. as a food lover and enthusiast for mediterranean food, unfortunately, this did not hit the spot. the pita was yummy, but the chicken was dry and flavorless. the spicy like sauce with the fries was delicious though. the decor inside with the trailing pothos is lovely and very friendly service. the food just fell flat for me.

Google
Amazing food. I’d you want falafel and pita with an OUT OF THIS WORLD hummus, look no further. So incredibly delicious. And the staff is so friendly.

Google
I don't know how this place got 4.9 starts, probably fake reviews from family and friends . Very very basic tasteless sandwiches, shawarmaz or dounya make way better stuff for half the price. Tomatoes tasted old, no taste of garlic mayonnaise, chicken breast dry! What the hell . Add to that the smell of sewer that came out of nowhete while eating everyone took their food to go

Small place with limited seating but the food is delicious 😋 Their pita bread is also different than the other places I have tried

Yelp
Fantastique! We stopped in for falafel salad since we wanted a lighter meal (although the wraps I saw looked good, too). Delicious, fresh flavors: fattoush salad, arugula, pickles, and red cabbage with several small falafels, seasoned pita croutons, topped with tahini dressing, mint and za'atar, and a side of spicy chili oil. Yum! Very reasonable price, lovely service. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Delicious, fresh ingredients served with a smile. We had chicken shawarma sandwiches in fluffy pita bread with flavorful veggies and condiments. We ordered online for takeout and it was ready within minutes. There are a few small tables to dine in. Open kitchen allows you to see the orders being made. Will definitely return to try their other middle eastern style sandwiches.

Yelp
Hidden gem located in the Plateau. The owners are two young and very friendly entrepreneurs and world travellers from Eritrea who started their adventure last November. They have chosen a beautiful name for their restaurant , Tessa, which means hope :-) The restaurant specializes in middle eastern sandwiches such as Falafel and Shawarma but also offer wraps, burgers and salads. I had the falafel sandwich and was extremely satisfied as the falafels were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside garnished with humus, pickles, cabbage and tahini just the way I like them garnished. Overall great experience and would go back for sure. Check them out, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Falafels in Montreal are usually a disappointment, but the sign in window: Best falafel in Town, gave hope and did not disappoint. Made FRESH to order and authentically delicious. The genuine personality of service was also refreshing for the area. We'll definitely be back to taste the rest of menu.

Yelp
What a find!!! We just randomly walked into Tesfa after getting a good feeling about it while walking by and had one of the most delicious meals in a long while. My god, the food was so incredibly fresh and that pita bread was perfection. Thick, soft and pillowy. The food is so lovingly prepared and you can see, taste and feel the love and appreciation these two gentlemen have for their customers and their business. Such a special journey these two souls have had and it's fascinating to see how they've melded the cuisine of all the places they've lived as refugees into their own unique culinary world. A gem. We'll be back for sure.

Yelp
Got there right as they were closing and were welcomed inside by one of the owners who let us try the wonderful fresh homemade falafels and shared his story with us. We ordered the shawarma and the "maman" and they were both delicious. Lots of vegetarian/vegan options. We will definitely be returning for the delicious food and the wonderful service from the talented chef.

Yelp
Love this place! Their hummus is so good - not too garlicky, fresh and super reasonably priced. It's tucked away just off of St Laurent. Super clean and the guys working there are really lovely. Highly recommend it :)

Yelp
Sign outside says, "Best Falafel in Town". Pretty bold statement, so I tried it out. So glad I did. Absolutely fantastic. Falafel itself was near perfectly crispy, and you could taste the fresh herbs inside. All the pita fillings were exceptional as well, especially the zhug. Coming back here for sure every time I'm in town.

Yelp
I had a delicious shawarma sandwich here with some excellent sweet potato fries. The staff have been lovely. Going back for more soon!
