16 Portland Restaurants and Bars With Live Music | Eater Portland

"Teutonic, a Southeast Portland urban winery with several Germanic-style wines, is also a common hangout for jazz heads, who visit on Sunday and Wednesday nights for jams and casual shows. The winery will host musicians at least those two nights every week in its industrial winemaking space, where people sip rieslings and listen to acts like Dan Faehnle and Jon Lakey among the string-light-lit barrels." - Cooper Green

Our first trip to Oregon started with a tasting at Teutonic. It blew us away. Truly. Set a high bar for every other winery we visited. We found each wine we sampled to be unique, full of story, and delicious. What they are doing at Teutonic is incredible. To top things off, our tasting was lead by Colleen who designs most of their labels. She was so engaging, easy to be with, and without agenda. We felt we were hanging out with a friend and left knowing we had made one. We think Teutonic is a MUST. Put it on your list!

Google
Colleen was very informative on how the wines are made and where they get the grapes. Bought 2 wines and actually had to figure out which 2 to get. Must say this place is AWESOME!!!! Will return for more again!!!!

Olga, the owner was such a great host. She gave us all the info about the wine, poured three wines at a time and left the bottles at the table so we could remember what each one was. The wine labels are a work of art and the wine is delicious. The tasting room is super cute and in the city which is nice when you want a quick drive and yummy wine. None of the wine is crazy expensive and everything we had was super good. We even got a bonus pour of a sparkling and loved it, bought 2 bottles of that, the Merlot and the 2022 Pinot Noir, which waived our tasting fee. The cheese plate was a nice added bonus to the tasting. Highly recommend checking out this Winery and tasting room in Portland.

Google
The wine tasting with Collene was truly phenomenal. Every wine was distinct and and amazing and blew us away. We ended up leaving with two bottles but wish we could ship more home with us.

Olga is amazing! We came here for a tasting and it was a blast. Selection is amazing and the ambiance is just amazing. Make sure to drop by if you’re in the neighborhood.

I couldn’t think of a better way to start a wine tasting weekend than at Teutonic. In the heart of Portland, it’s a great first stop of the plane. We had the pleasure of working with Leslie who was fantastic. She introduced us to Oregon whites with so much knowledge and love for what she was doing. Barnaby is truly doing something special. We tasted a lot of good wine this weekend but some of the best, with the best experience was with Leslie at Teutonic!

Google
Perfect evening thanks to Teutonic Wine Company Delicious German style local wines. The live jazz and rustic atmosphere added to the good experience. Nice place to hangout get some snacks, wine with music. Any out of state travelers like me, Alaska airlines lets you check in local OR wines for free. I loved the Riesling which was sweet and refreshing and my husband loved the Pinot Noir

Google
Wine tasting with good friends. Leslie was especially helpful and knowledgeable about the wine. And of course the wines are top notch. Unfortunately because of COVID many businesses have had to change how they accommodate their customers. This can sometimes be challenging. While I used to love the events and drop in tastings at Teutonic, this unfortunately is not possible right now. Let’s all practice kindness and patience. The folks at Teutonic are doing a great job in keeping the wine tasting experience alive and well.

Yelp
I was visiting for the weekend with my fiance and he wanted to try Portland wine. The tasting here was amazing. He accidentally made a reservation for the wrong day (the next day) but we were able to get accommodated and we were the only ones doing a tasting at the time. I really liked the blends especially the one with the boil label. Before I tried these wines I thought that natural wines were very funky but these were not and they were so enjoyable. We got a mix of white and reds to try and they were each pretty different with a variety of acidic flavor, sweetness, and fruitiness. Colleen was a great host and answered a lot of our questions about the wines and the wine bar in general. We ended up buying 5 bottles to fly back home with us and the tastings were covered. I'd come back if I was in town!

Yelp
Not knowing that this tasting room is nominally available by reservation only (prior to COVID, this wasn't the case), we lucked out in that there were no appointments scheduled during the time we popped in to visit, right after they opened. We were welcomed by Leslie, a fantastic conversationalist, who answered all of our questions about the winery, the owners, the winemaking process, and details about each of the vintages we sampled during our flight tasting, which was...formidable! There are 8 wines in the flight, but we were treated to a couple off-menu vintages as well, so by the end of it all, we had a pleasant bit of buzz going on. Each successive sample poured is slightly darker in progression, although things don't start getting pink and red until near the very end, which was a highlight for me! I generally am not a fan of most red wines, finding them to be too cloying, too chewy, or too mineral-ly for my taste; having a white-heavy tasting menu is perfectly alright with me! That said, every single one we sampled was incredible, opening my eyes to a world where, apparently, I have just been drinking shitty red wines before now. We ended up taking home two bottles: a "backyard" vintage grown, literally, in the proprietor's back yard, called "97212" (my favorite), and the "Skin Contact" Gewürztraminer; both of them light and crisp, with the former being sweet, and the latter drier and fruitier. I haven't enjoyed wine, *any* wine, as much as these two, in quite a while! It's a shame that Teutonic no longer has an outdoor patio, live music, and other events catering to the general public. But as a private establishment, perfect for a quiet, romantic tête-à-tête (well, plus one sommelier, of course), this is one tasting room we will be making the extra effort to return to, in the future...and with a reservation, next time!

Yelp
I've tasted a lot of wine from the region and always favor the smaller wineries. You are much more likely to be surprised (both good and bad). It makes trying new wines and wineries exciting. This was our first experience with Teutonic and we had no idea what to expect. We were blown away by their whites and it just kept going. We walked out with two of each of the eight bottles we tasted. The service was impeccable and Leslie was extremely knowledgeable of the wine, the vineyards and the winemaking philosophy and process. Thoroughly enjoyable. We will be back and we'll recommend it to anyone and everyone. The tasting room is small but very welcoming. Do make a reservation however (we walked in and we're lucky that they weren't busy).

Yelp
The wines that Barnaby is making are forward thinking and out of this world. I love what he is doing with noble rot (candied mushroom Riesling) and grapes that were affected by the wildfires (sea foam, rauchweins). The wines here reflect our current environment. They're beautiful. A focus on German/Alsatian wines, natural wine, wild fermentation, old oak barrels. The first time I had a glass of Teutonic was in Houston in 2018 and it was Pig & Swords - immediately fell in love with that beautiful skin contact. The wines are food friendly and there's not a bad wine. Since the pandemic, tastings have to be scheduled online.

Yelp
Love this place! The wine and service is great! There's only street parking but, it's tucked away in a little industrial area so the parking situation really isn't bad at all. The wine per glass and the food is pricey but, the atmosphere is amazing, the staff is knowledgeable, and they have local live music twice per week. The Place itself has an 80's underground rock meets Bourbon St. jazz vibe. If you decide to go here, I recommend doing a tasting and then buying by the bottle instead of by the glass. As a side note, you get a 10-30% discount if you buy a bottles to go (depending on what you buy). The best part, you do not have to be a member for that "bottle to go" discount! ***Outside patio is dog friendly***

Yelp
Great wine locally. We found this place because of Paella! PDX Paella ($10 - $12 a plate) is a new pop up that will be at Teutonic during the nice weather months on Friday nights. We have been two times and are looking forward to going back to experience Seafood Sundays. The wine we've tried is excellent and reasonably priced. A bottle of Jazz Odyssey ($17) was the perfect accompaniment for the Seafood Paella($12) being served the second time we visited. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. I look forward to going many more times to try their other wines.

Yelp
Cute little place. This was my favorite wine bar during my visit to Portland. Our server was so nice and knowledgeable on all of their wines. We sat at the bar and was provided excellent service! I recommended this wine bar for fun, casual drinking.

Yelp
Great wine and food. They have great events and dog friendly outdoor that had some shade.

Mark B.

Yelp
Arrived over an hour before closing and the host came outside to stop us entering because they only did tastings by reservations and she had a party inside already. Which, fair enough, except there was still plenty of seating inside and my friends had bought several hundred dollars of wine there the week before and had highly recommended it. Easy enough to find somewhere else to visit!

Yelp
One of my all time faves - so easy to enjoy everything about these beautiful wines. A bottle I proudly share with friends and family alike for its consistent delivery on the palate. The wine club also has nice perks!

Yelp
Music is consistently great (jazz). Food is there, but just there. Wines are fine... damn fine. I wish that they would obtain their hard liquor license. At times, I'd much rather have a cocktail with music rather than wine. Service is OK, nothing special, nothing bad. I want this to be better! There's a lot of potential here!

Yelp
Had a horrible experience trying to purchase wines from Teutonic. My daughter found their 2019 Rose at New Seasons at the $20.00 per bottle price point, which in itself is amazing, and we tried the wine and loved it. Let's just say this wine is lovely, goes down easy and before you know it, you are opening a second bottle, which really isn't hard to do between two people. So, we saw that it was local wine with a wine shop and thought we would visit and purchase some wines. Well, that did not happen. Had a very uncomfortable and off putting experience. We entered the shop and there was no one present except the person working there behind the counter. Immediately we saw an empty case of the 2019 Rose we were looking for out with other wines for sale. Why keep an empty case of wine out with other wines for purchase? Not sure. We inquired as to purchasing this specific wine and was told, rather rudely, they were all out. BUT we could purchase the 2020 Rose. Okay, they did have a bottle of that on display by the counter with other wines. I inquired as to the taste of this wine, and basically was meant to feel like an idiot, because the 2020 was even better than the 2019. Okay, thanks for setting me straight. As I said, there were other wines on display, so we inquired and again, very rudely told, that those were wine club wines releasing in about two weeks and we could not purchase. No information provided on how to become a wine club member, or anything else about the wine club. The woman behind the counter was so off putting, unfriendly and not helpful at all. We decided to leave and go to New Seasons to purchase more of the 2019. We told her thank you for her time and she, in a smirky know it all way, I don't give a damn way, said good bye, which felt like good riddance. It was a really unfortunate encounter and I don't think the woman we encountered should be in the customer service industry. Some great places to go to purchase wines, with knowledgeable staff are Damn on NE Killingsworth, also an amazing restaurant, Ardor on SE Belmont and Division Wines on SE Divsion. All of these places have lovely staff members who actually want to engage with customers.

Yelp
I was pretty bummed about my experience here this evening. I walked in with enthusiasm that was basically shut down immediately by one of the staff. It's unfortunate because I was very excited about this urban winery initially but the way we were treated by one individual made all 4 of us not want to revisit this establishment.. I am in the service industry and I worked in the wine biz specifically for nearly 10 years.. I get it sometimes you have a bad day but nonetheless it's is one's responsibility to take care of their guests and treat them with kindness when you are in the industry. We felt very uncomfortable here tonight. Unfortunately I won't be recommending this winery to my vast network.

Yelp
This is the kind of place I go out of my way to find. Quirky, delicious, hidden, tasteful, musical, serves one beer only, winecentric, pickup truck, pork slider, tree slice bar, friendly, Iron Butterfly, guest winemakers. Nuff said.

Yelp
Eclectic, fun. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Service is excellent, local wines are varied and delicious.

Yelp
The wine was lovely, small plates looked great. It would be really helpful if they put descriptions of the wines on their menu. 7 pinot noirs with no idea what makes each special written anywhere. The gal working explained each to us, but we were the only people there, so not a big deal. But would have liked to have the info in front of us. Also would be good to have a few lesser expensive options. $27.00 for two glasses of wine is steep in our book. We will be back when there is music, maybe that will make the prices a bit easier to swallow.

Yelp
Cute little wine bar with accomodating staff. Only downside is the small plates were quite...small.

Yelp
Found this place by chance wandering back downtown. Stopped in for some refreshment, and had an excellent Gewürztraminer. It was actually better than wines I've had in Germany. It's a good sign when I get a couple bottles to go, and I'm walking! The server, Olivia, was very helpful, knowledgeable about the wines, and about things to do in the area (Thanks!). I was headed out just as their paella chef was getting set up for their evening event. Couldn't stay, but I'm definitely coming back for food, and more of their excellent wine.

Yelp
Noah Simpson band and Teutonic Wine Company were the perfect combination Friday night to help us celebrate four birthdays. We had heard of Teutonic and checked it out ahead of time since we expected to have a large group. The owners were excellent to work with. We ordered food ahead of time which was delicious and the wine of course paired perfectly with the food. If you haven't heard of Noah Simpson I encourage you to go find him. He uses standards to jam just like back in the day and he brings with him various musicians to build and create right in front of you. He is a fantastic musician and band leader. He encourages everyone to participate and provides the environment to do it. We've been following him for years. Check him out. And if you catch him at Teutonic, all the better!

Yelp
Lovely wine and great customer service. If we lived in Portland I could imagine hanging out here frequently.

Yelp
Excellent wines and lovely, knowledgeable service. Great for a date night, meeting spot with friends, or quiet solo evening spot.

Yelp
I was thoroughly impressed by Teutonic Wine Company. They are SERIOUS winemakers, inspired largely by Germanic/Alsatian wines, which is a cool departure from the French style of many Oregon producers. The tasting room is beautiful, the staff is very down to earth (thanks Derek), and they have an awesome vinyl collection. I highly recommend Teutonic to anyone from the most experienced wine professional to a casual wine drinker looking for a nice time.

Yelp
Rae is amazing, can't wait to come back and meet owners, lovely well made wines, gorgeous tasting room...will be back to talk metal, cars and wine with Barnaby....(industry, come visit me at Oregon Mead and Cider off Sandy)

Yelp
Attended a "soft" open today that was promoted through social media. Didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised to find yet another Portland gem. First and foremost the owners are inviting and hospitable (inclusive of the Portland indie charm). Followed by a simple [yet defining] decor and wine that is traditional and on par for the region. The 'special notes' for this venue is the location, vision of the owners and the support of the eclectic friend circle. I recommend you stop by for a tasting to stand behind the ingenuity, dreams and craftsmanship of Portland's entrepreneurs.

Yelp
This place is great. Super friendly staff and owners. The wine is great, and the food truck serves up some good stuff! One of my new favorite places in the SE.

Sanj S.

Yelp
Nice ambience with the jazz band and Oregonian wines. Good finger foods too. Chill place to be with friends.

Mark S.

Yelp
I enjoyed talking to Olga and Rae about their German styled wines, and am looking forward to trying out their Seafood Sundays!

Jackie D.

Yelp
Attended the Grand Opening and was seriously impressed. The wines of course are super and you can usually get the owner Barnaby to give you a lesson in German wine making. The space is very inviting. Decided to go back for their first Seafood Sunday and had awesome shark tacos. Even though they are just getting started and will be tweeking things as they come up, this is already a great place to hang. Looking forward to more visits and seeing what new ideas for events are on the horizon.

Lindsey F.

Yelp
Great place AND they're open on Monday afternoons! Looks like they have on-going events and outdoor seating; we'll definitely be back with more friends!

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Great wine bar with the best Riesling I've ever had. I generally am not a fan of sweet white wines, preferring nuanced red, but they easily won me over. Great and friendly service, easy to get to, and great hours. Will definitely be back soon.
