Run by a grassroots nonprofit, this museum documents Black history in Tyler and across Texas with rotating exhibits and annual celebrations like Juneteenth. Recent renovations and steady programming reflect growing community support.
We are so blessed to have a museum that gives a beautiful testimony to so many of our heroes of African descent . There is an awesome museum of our war heroes in Bullard. But until the Texas African American Museum was opened in Tyler we had a void that needed to be filled. Let’s all embrace this excellent facility and support this museum that shines a light on our Texas African American hero’s.

Mrs. Washington was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot from her. The artifacts in her possession, are very valuable and there is so much life and growth within this establishment! People should go there to learn.
