Didn't plan to visit here while in town, but found it on the map and had extra time. We're glad we made that decision! Had a great time. There is a lot to see for a small museum. Looking forward to supporting the drive to expand to a larger facility.

Google
Great fun. Go on board a DC-3, NASA trainer, and a C7-A. Limited space for the exhibits makes it a little overwhelming. Lots to see! If you can’t figure out how to get in the sign in the street points to the door you enter. See pics.

Google
Nice place to visit, but it's a bit hard to find. We did go inside the facility. We did not get to see the outside displays. I am guessing they use volunteers to manage the museum.

Jerry Grosenick

Google
The museum was decent. The gentleman who took outside to look at the planes and helicopter was excellent. Glad he showed and explained everything to us.

Google
This museum is volunteer run and an absolute gem! Ron is very knowledgeable and generous with information. There are several indoor and outdoor exhibits, and I was excited to hear they're planning to expand. Definitely worth the time if you have any interest in aviation!

Went there on a quick trip once we were passing through Amarillo, very happy I did! I met some lovely absolutely engaged volunteers that seemed excited to talk about everything they had. We were allowed to roam the inside on our own, then we were accompanied out onto the tarmac by Ron, the President of the place! Definitively a funny and informative man! Loved this entire visit!

Google
Wonderful experience visiting. Obviously a labor of love running on the efforts of wonderful volunteers until they are able to obtain needed funding to move into a larger facility. Recommend -, for hands on experience of history of flight, an intimate view of Texans who contributed to flying and our Space exploration.....and remembering those who sacrificed their lives. Make sure not to miss the 'model room'.

Google
This place was amazing! I highly recommend stopping here. The people who work there are volunteers trying to keep the place alive and are so incredibly kind and helpful. They even let you go inside some of the planes! The amount of history to see and read about is overwhelming and often emotional. If you go and have a guide named Ron then you're lucky! He is a very sweet man who will answer all of your questions, show you around and even help you take some awesome pictures! They don't charge anything to go through but I highly recommend leaving a tip out of respect. They all volunteer there so that we all can have the opportunity to see these amazing planes up close and learn about the histories. I will definitely be going back :)

Yelp
Staff was so knowledgeable and they had a great exhibit of models and unique aircraft. Wish weather had been better but we made the most of it.

Yelp
This is an amazing museum! My son and I loved the guided tour we had. The docent was so knowledgeable and kind to us. We got to go inside so many different aircraft. An added unexpected bonus was the Osprey that happened to be landing on the runway while we were there. I was not expecting to enjoy this nearly as much as I did. I can't say enough great things!

Daniel K.

Yelp
Museum is small very awesome exhibit with a variety of different planes with amazing service. The only thing that needs work with this place was some of the planes was outside in grass and it rained beforehand. We had to walk on squishy muddy grass to get to some of the planes.

Yelp
Great little Aviation museum. Has a plethora of planes including an NASA Shuttle trainer used by Amarillo's own Rick husband. Neat story about the dc3/c47 in the hangar. Mr. Ron is a great guide and is very informative.

Yelp
Small museum with the friendliest people! Definitely worth a visit any time you're up that way.

Yelp
We've been here now 3 times and will most definitely stop in any time we're in town. They have a nice collection of stuff including many many models. What these guys appreciate most, though, is sharing the stories behind each piece. Ron said, we can collect "things" but what we are going to lose are the stories. The first visit was just Mom and Dad and Dad noticed that they did not have a KC - 135, which was the plane he was on during Vietnam as a boom operator. Ron said "We take donations!" so Dad came home and built one. When we took the Stratotanker to them, I went along and asked them if they had Glacier Girl, who I have a personal connection with. They did not know her or the story of The Lost Squadron, so we came home and built a model of her. I also found some videos and a book detailing her story and the story of The Lost Squadron. We just recently delivered her. If you have a personal connection to any aviation story, they would love for you to donate something they can share with others but most importantly, your story.

Yelp
My husband and I have aviation backgrounds. Both USAF and FAA. We enjoyed the museum. The curators were very knowledgeable and friendly.

Yelp
This place was great! It's free but by the time you leave you'll want to make a donation to help them keep it going. They have all kinds of old airplanes and space travel information and when you walk in the volunteer working will take you on a tour of the place and tell you all about the planes and equipment you see. You can go inside some of the planes and there is interactive stuff on some of the computers. If you have any questions your guide will try to answer them. He was able to answer most of mine. The whole experience was very informative. It's great for kids and adults both. If you get to town make sure you stop by here! Oh, and go at a time that's a little restaurant, the English Field House Cafe, is open because it's very enjoyable to sit and watch the airplanes take off and land while you enjoy a meal and or drink.

Yelp
Take time and go visit this museum. We really enjoyed it! Me, my wife and 2 year old had a great time and enjoyed the tour. We aren't big fans of guided tours but he took his time to let us explore and enjoy the planes. The museum was free but accepted donations. We donated and picked up a souvenir at the shop for her. If we are ever around this part of town will visit again.

Yelp
We had such a great time here! Our guide was so informative and funny. I loved seeing the planes and going in them. We took lots of photos too. The staff was very friendly. Thank you Texas Air & Space!

Yelp
This is such a neat little museum! The lady up front is the sweetest thing and absolutely knows her stuff. There's a little plane near the front that you're able to climb up into and my son was a big fan of that. They have a wonderful display and I could have spent hours in here. My only recommendation is to go during the fall or spring. It can get pretty hot in the main hangar, I wanted to look around more but ducked into the side room because I was getting sweaty. I thoroughly recommend that travelers and locals alike take a trip out to this hidden gem. It doesn't matter if you're a fan of planes or not, you will enjoy yourself!

Yelp
I absolutely loved it! Incredible aircraft an history. We'll be going again some day.

Yelp
Nice little museum. Must see for aviation enthusiasts. Will be moving soon and in need of donations! Spent about hour there and thoroughly enjoy the tour.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem right here in Amarillo. The museum is FREE although they gladly take donations. Volunteers can guide you through the museum where you'll see all kinds of treasures related to planes and space. There are even several you can go inside. My family had a great time and the volunteers were so kind and knowledgeable.

Yelp
We had an amazing time at this museum. It looks small- but there is so much information and history packed into this place. Ron, our tour guide, really made the trip. He was knowledgeable, fun and kind. The kids were able to climb into the airplanes and helicopters for pictures. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Stacy R.

Yelp
Great experience and lots of fun touring the aircraft. Ron is an excellent tour guide, very funny and knowledgeable. It's free, but they take donations. It's well worth a visit if you're in Amarillo!

Yelp
I didn't give 5 stars because it is the best museum I have ever been too, but because of the volunteers who work there that make it special. I went on spring break just as COVID began to get crazy in Dallas where we were from. I took my 6-year-old daughter, and they treated us like VIPs. The volunteer took us onto the runway to wave at the Commercial Jets that were leaving and took us inside many historical planes. The volunteer was very good with my daughter. He told her she could be a pilot someday. We had such a great visit. It is free, but if you are able leave them a donation.

Yelp
We spent a couple of hours at the Texas Air and Space Museum in Amarillo today and had such a good time! Mr. Dunn, our guide was knowledgeable, shared some great stories, and didn't rush. We were able to enter several of the planes, and learned about Amarillo son, Rick Husband, Commander of the ill-fated space shuttle Columbia mission in February, 2003. There are some less-than-positive reviews on TripAdvisor about this museum, but we had a great time and hope to return when they move into their larger quarters, where everything will be under one roof.

Yelp
This was such a lovely stop on our way through Texas. The two veterans were very nice knowledgeable and it was very patriotic experience. They even recommended that we stay the night in the canyon and see the musical and they helped us make reservations. I'd have to say it was one of our favorite stops in Texas. Highly recommend you visit. It's all through donations and it's free, but they do have a gift shop where you can buy a few things to support them and you can leave a donation at the desk as well. We we're in a 38 foot motorhome and we were towing a cheap, so we parked in the lot of Jason to it which was unrelated to them but had no problems. We did have to call the museum to confirm exactly where they were located because there's a little bit of construction and it was hard to find. But the answer the phone and they came out and they waved at us and it was wonderful

Yelp
We arrived at 9am on a Monday. The sight said that they open at 9am. Turns out that they open at 10am. We just happened to get lucky and caught an employee there early. He went ahead and let us in. He then took us on private tour of the museum. It was small, very interesting. The employee had a vast knowledge of airplanes. He was an engineer in the Navy many years ago. We were able to get in and walk around inside several planes. One of the planes in particular gave me flashbacks from my military days. The museum was free, but they do accept donations. My kids had a good time and I think my wife and I had a better time.

Sydney T.

Yelp
Cool gem in Amarillo! Passionate tour guides who are very knowledgeable on everything in the museum and more! For someone who knew nothing about planes, I'm ready to fly.

Lori K.

Yelp
If you're into air and space craft, and you like history, this is the place for you. It's rather small, but they fill it with as much as possible. You're greeted by a vet who tells you right off the bat - We're going to get you into as many planes as possible. You can actually sit in and enter most of the aircraft there. Your host takes you outside and gives you some history on the planes out there. It was wondering speaking with him and hearing his stories and those of others who served our country. We will definitely tell our friends and family to stop by if they're in Amarillo.

John G.

Yelp
Oh wow. If you are even interested in old planes a little bit, you've gotta check this place out. It's not your usual aircraft museum. On every visit, you get a guided tour automatically. And you don't just look at the planes from outside - you get to go IN almost all of them. That huge and magnificent old DC-3 that's in their hangar? Yep, you get to go inside. That jet on the ramp that was modified by NASA for astronaut training? Yep, they invite you in. It's a "little museum that could" and a better way to experience aviation history than just looking at planes from behind a rope. Even my toddler loved it!

Yelp
What a fun, interesting, educational find in Amarillo! I thought I had seen and done everything there was to do in Amarillo - then we found this little gem. It's a small museum with a huge amount of interesting information and history. A tour guide walks you through and tells stories about the planes. Our guide - Sam - had a Texas sized passion for aviation and history and told us stories about everything from WWI planes to the helicopters being built next door. There is lots of information about Rick Husband, the local man who commanded the Columbia space shuttle. I'm not a huge fan of air and space stuff but I am a fan of local history and I love listening to people talk about their passions. I wish I could give more specifics about what we saw - but I have poor retention for these things. Regardless - this is a great little museum. I highly recommend a quick visit.

Yelp
From the informative, kind guide... to the planes in which to climb ... this is a gem! Our young kids enjoyed it and we parents did, too. Thank you for the welcome and the snapshots of history being preserved!

G W.

Yelp
No fees, but donations appreciated. We were very disappointed. Our tour guide made a lot of odd comments, one being be sure to not leave the tour outside the building or you'd be shot. He said this several times, only 4 adults in our tour with no one wandering. Some nice memorabilia and hopefully soon they can relocate to a larger facility.

Yelp
Do not pass this one up. The guided tour is top notch! Not many planes but they are in the expansion mode. Hands on, meaning you can touch, go inside, sit in the planes and turn some knobs. Usually have to stand behind a rope and just look!!

Yelp
What a great find! The tour guide was very entertaining and informative, he made us feel as if we had a private tour. The history of the planes on display is incredible. My son and I enjoyed this jewel of a museum. They are going to move to a larger space, we will definitely go when back in Amarillo.
