Tonight I had a bit of a strange encounter, me and my loved one ordered an appetizer, more specifically: the cactus blossom. As we ate it, it had a bit of a strange taste and a lot of grease that left a pool underneath. We wanted to get it addressed, the rest of the food during the experience was great, and had to have a manager to come and talk.
The server manager came by to talk about it, which he was nice at first but kind of snappy at the end remark. He claimed that we should’ve known better on ordering a fried dish and that sometimes the grease gets ‘trapped’ in the onion layers. He then said we should order a different appetizer next time…
I work in the restaurant industry. I have worked in it for 4-5 years as a server and had my fair share of working with management, not only that but I cook well too in restaurant quality. I also worked at Outback Steakhouse for a bit and know how those onions are made, what the manager said was semi-true, but you can shake off excess oil easily, trust me. The batter also tasted off and funky, and normally I don’t say that food tastes “weird” or etc, I’m not picky and I have a good palette for taste. I don’t blame Texas Roadhouse because it is Saturday night and I know the cooks are in more of a rush, but didn’t appreciate the attitude the manager gave me when addressing my appetizer. Again, I’ve worked with management before, they don’t give customers a hard time based on a kitchen mistake. Our server Madelyn treated us well though and accustomed to my problem better.
