Flying Fish Is Now Open at New Cypress Waters Development | Eater Dallas

"A budget-minded Italian concept from Abel Gonzales of State Fair of Texas fried fame, who deliberately moved away from the deep-fry focus for this venture. The kitchen offers approachable, wallet-friendly pasta dishes, Italian deli-style sandwiches, and salads." - Adele Chapin

I thought the outside of the restaurant was eye-catching and it is such a nice color! The inside was nice and homey. My mama and I enjoyed the food and the music! I danced around a bit, lol. AG was a kind and patient while we decided on our order. I’d DEFINITELY go back when in the area!

I pride myself on finding incredible places to eat, drink, and experience genuine hospitality when I travel—and Texican by Abel Gonzalez is one of those special finds. I took a day trip to Dallas to visit a friend, and after landing, I was starving. A quick search led me to Texican, and the photos alone convinced me to give it a try. I’m so glad I did. When we walked in, there were a few guests enjoying breakfast in a quaint, cozy dining area—beautiful, but unfussy. We headed to the back to check out the menu, and the guy at the counter was incredibly pleasant and knowledgeable. His enthusiasm about the food made us even more excited to order. We went with two brisket, bacon, and egg tacos and a vegetable and bean taco. Every bite was amazing. The brisket was smoky and tender, the eggs were cooked just right, and everything was packed with flavor. But the surprise standout? The chips and salsa. Freshly made in-house, the chips were fried to absolute perfection, and the salsa was vibrant and full of depth. The customer service was fantastic, and the owner was present and generous with his time, happily sharing the story of the restaurant. Texican has been open for about five years, and it’s clear it’s something special. I already know what I’m ordering next time—the brisket breakfast plate I spotted at the table across from us looked incredible. If you’re in Dallas, don’t miss this spot. Texican by Abel Gonzalez is a true gem worth discovering.

This place is the bomb.com. Their meat is elevated. Must try the brisket. Where have you been all my life?!?!

Google
What an amazing little spot. Needed a place to kill a little time before heading to the airport and we scored big with this pick. We had their brisket breakfast tacos with bacon and sunnyside egg. Snapshot 5 star delicious!!!

Went to pick up some tamales and grabbed a quick lunch plate. Brisket tacos with rice and beans, bag of chips and salsa. I had high hopes and it DID NOT disappoint. Delicious!!

Google
This cozy place was perfect for me and my daughter to dine. The wonderful dishes you see are a delicious and was perfect. This is the Best Italian cuisine on Dallas! Wonderful spices and seasonings on the Cajun Alfredo Pasta. The Banna pudding was smooth and cool perfect for a hot summer day. A incredible restaurant to come and visit, service was on point and the food will never disappoint! Coming back to entertain my pattlet again!

The atmosphere was super uncomfortable and the service was one of the worst I've ever had in the 29 years of my life. The cashier was very rude, disrespectful, immature, especially for a middle-aged guy, and came across as racist. And I'm not one to throw that word around unless it's the real deal. He seems like the type that stereotypes an entire group of people and tries to fit them into a small box. I’m the kind of person who’s genuinely kind to everyone I talk to, so his behavior really caught me off guard. The food was very bland, and lacked flavor and love. I won’t be coming back. My friend definitely needs to recommend better restaurants.

Google
The owner is awesome and the food is even better. You get a good amount for the cost and is a great Tex-Mex restaurant. We go often for lunch and tell everyone how good it is. The breakfast is even better!

Yelp
Front door parking makes it easy to stop by but best of all - the smell hits you as you walk in - smoke meats - and more. Enjoyed tex mex today along with a pork chop lunch special - the BEST cooked to perfection with 2 sauces, homemade tortillas - beans - brisket mac n' cheese absolute heaven. Never disappoints - will be returning for holiday tamales in a couple weeks. Quick refills on chips - sauces - anything you need or want.

Yelp
Great little spot (6 tables) to eat breakfast. I had the brisket, bacon and egg taco along with a steak and egg taco. Tortillas were fresh and the meat was on point . It was served with a green sauce that was excellent and a small container of salsa that was also very good. Staff were nice and the restaurant was clean. Check it out! I'd bet their regular menu would be great as well.

Yelp
We were starving when we arrived in Dallas. OMG!! This place is amazing!! The meat is tender and flavorful. Don't even need a knife for the brisket. We loved everything!! Excellent services and incredible prices. Great way to start our Texas trip :-)

Yelp
Delicious tex mex. We got the smoked pork quesadillas and brisket queso, the quality and taste of the meat was so good. Definitely some of the best queso I've ever had. They also have some of Abel's state fair food, so we tried the fried cookie dough which had a great flavor. The dough actually had chocolate chips, coconut, and pecans which added texture and depth that elevated the dish. Prices were very fair for the portions. Shocked it wasn't packed inside.

Yelp
Visiting for a volleyball tournament from San Antonio, we found this small restaurant. Breakfast tacos r 10/10! They're small but so delicious! My husband had the brisket , bacon and egg. Best taco on the menu. I had potato and egg and bacon and egg. 10/10 place is super clean. If we ever come back to Dallas definitely coming back.

Yelp
Went with the brisket tacos: excellent smoky flavor without over powering the other fresh ingredients of the tacos. Two sauces in the plate, verde (tomatillo) and chipotle. Both were extremely fresh. The side of rice was good, cooked just right. Equal to the tacos was the side of beans. Not refried, more like borracho style. Outside of my mother's beans, these were the best I have had in decades. Highly recommend the brisket taco plate. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
DELICIOUS! 10/10 can't wait to come back! Particularly loved the chorizo potato, and both hot sauce options were great! Great tortillas, high quality bacon, and the brisket was perfection!

Yelp
Just got off a plane at love field and was looking for a breakfast place. This establishment was FANTASTIC. I ordered two brisket breakfast tacos and one chorizo and egg taco. The brisket tacos were huge! Everything was delicious. Some of the best breakfast tacos I've ever had.

Yelp
Four and 1/2 stars! Had lunch there today. First time, ordered the catfish special very reasonably priced, but before I could leave the register someone walked by with the steak and potato tacos and I changed my order. They were great!!! Gave you just enough chips to the plate to complete the meal. Rice excellent beans good! Will definitely return. Service very friendly!

Yelp
Rock-solid Mexican food at a fair price. The picadillo and smoked-pork tacos were both legit. I'll be back!

Yelp
Great place for breakfast or lunch what I really like is that brisket is a protein option other than bacon or sausage , Chef Abel can smoke a mighty tasty brisket he also has the fried PB&J sandwich on the menu.

Yelp
If you have not tried this place, it needs to be on your priority list. I have run into a lot of good brisket lately, but this one rises above them all. Melt in your mouth deliciousness!

Yelp
Amazing food. The brisket is phenomenal. I might be bias because I love this place so much. Daily specials. Brisket, bacon and egg taco is so good. The owner recommended the potato and egg and I was tempted but didn't get it my first time. My third time here I ordered it along with the brisket taco, let me tell you the best potato and egg breakfast taco I've ever had. Salsa is really flavorful but not spicy. 5 stars all day, everyday.

Yelp
I visited Abel Gonzales' restaurant, The Texican, this morning for breakfast tacos. I ordered Brisket and Barbacoa tacos. Everything about them was excellent. Fresh, homemade tortillas, wonderful meats, and incredible salsas. Can't wait to come back and explore more of the menu.

Yelp
Love this place, food and service are always fantastic. They also have great daily specials.

Yelp
Oh my goodness what a treat the brisket here is simply amazing I can't stop stuffing my face with the amazing queso and fresh chips the pico to Gallo is on point. The service is always fast and friendly. I almost finished the whole plate.

Yelp
This place is a real gem and I visit almost weekly. The owner is awesome and the food is top notch. Well worth a stop if you're in the area!

Yelp
If you are a Menudo type of person, this is not your place. Got a bowl with about 10 small pieces of meat. Not a full meal by no means. And!! Only 2 tortillas!!! They agreed to bring me additional meat but it was not what most of us know as a"bowl" of menudo!!
