It was such a freeing experience coming into this class! Damon was so energetic and he really helps you come into your own and explore your body without judgement, only encouragement! You'll feel so hunty after the class! Promise you wont regret

What people don’t realize about dancing is that it is an expression of your relationship to the self; it is such an honest mirror. Damon’s Vogue class has provided me with the tools to combat the darkest, most critical parts of my mind and overcome my fears; their classes have helped me to have fun in the art of voguing while also finding my footing and confidence. This studio is a must-visit for anyone who is serious about embarking on a journey of self-love & discovery.

Three months ago, I showed up for a Body Burn class at Textured Dance Studio. I was greeted by the owner and main instructor, Damon. Damon’s welcoming presence and positive vibes were felt immediately. Things only got better as we began class which starts with a warm up followed by conditioning exercises then a choreographed routine for about 4 songs for cardio. This workout can be challenging but also SO MUCH FUN! Damon’s infectious energy paired with his choreography/dance skills blew me away. He promotes a judgement free zone where all fitness/dance levels are welcome. I became a member that same day and have been coming to class 4-5 times a week now. I have also tried yoga, contemporary and restorative mobility classes. I highly recommend all of those classes also! I absolutely love the workout and welcoming community I have found at Textured Dance Studio. Highly recommend this studio for anyone looking for a fun and effective workout with wonderful people!

A year ago I was taking a walk in the neighborhood and this dance studio caught my eye. So I decided to try out a dance package groupon here on a whim, and I'm so glad I did! I will admit I was a little nervous the first couple of classes, simply because I didn't know what to expect and I am by no means a "good" dancer. By that I mean I haven't taken any professional dance courses or training, I came here just as an alternative to gym workouts. I quickly realized I had nothing to be nervous about. The studio's owner and main instructor, Damon, promotes a judgment free environment where all experience levels are welcome! His joy, and positive, goofy energy is so infectious I found myself with a huge smile on my face, and a full heart. Afterwards I decided to keep coming back and bought a full monthly membership to the studio after my groupon expired. Over the past year I've taken bodyburn, restorative mobility, yoga and even tried out a contemporary class! I love all the different types of dance classes available here and the warm and welcoming community that never fails to brighten my day. I'm now a regular member and try to come to classes here 3 times a week as my regular fitness routine. I cannot recommend this studio enough, if you enjoy dancing and want to change up your fitness routine this is the perfect place to go! I also really like that for bodyburn we get a new dance routine every couple weeks 🥰 I like to show off what new moves I learn to my friends and family! 🤪💖

Damon is such a phenomenal, respectful, educational, judgement free and entertaining instructor. Has helped me. To find a new form of expression and has taught the class and I incredible lessons! Love him!

Taking classes at Textured Dance was my first voguing experience. Both Damon and Willyum were very encouraging to me during class even though I clearly knew I was a newbie haha. Damon is really good at teaching technical elements and Willyum is the teacher to inspire me to find myself in voguing. Willyum embraces who I am by teaching me how to Vogue. I would definitely recommend both Damon and Willyum’s class.

I have known Damon Green for a very long time now as a colleague, collaborator, and friend. It is a great pleasure to see his enthusiasm and ebullience for underground dance styles and forms to manifest in a dance studio where people can learn these underrepresented techniques. Most dance studio around Chicago do not offer what TEXTUREDance offers, which they should take notice. I had a chance to witness this by taking Damon's Vogue Class that happens on Thursday nights at 7pm. I typically would not travel from Pilsen to Uptown (an hour plus during evening rush hour) to go anywhere, but I wanted to vogue the house down but could not think of anywhere else to go besides TEXTUREDance Studio. The studio even has the underground feel to it even though Damon has kissed it with a modern vibe with the interior design. Damon makes you feel like your at home when you are there. Lots of smiles, laughs, sincerity, and desire/eagerness to share his knowledge of dance. What makes TEXTUREDance unique is not the push and drive to make you this manufactured technique ridden dancer but an honest approach to making you a dance artists that is unique to the devices and idiosyncrasies you already have in/on your body. One of the most important things I remember Damon expressing to the girls who took the Vogue class with me was "do what you know how to do and carry with that" and the girls dancing changed and they were beginning to understand what vogueing is. If I did have one criticism, it would be having vogue class at least three times per week, so there would be more opportunities to take vogue class. All in all, if you want to have a good time and put your work in, I would say go. Go because if you want to learn how to vogue, this is the place to be. The Monday night Vogue class with Moosey Avant-Garde is a treat too because you will be learning from a Master Voguer. Do not forget to bring your pumps!

I've been dancing here for about 2 months. At first, I was nervous, since I have NO dance experience. I have experience with music and a lot of energy, and I needed a new hobby since my work was taking up all of my time, and I needed a way to de-stress. When I found TextureDance in my neighborhood, I decided to give dance a try, since it was convenient for me, and dancing always looked fun. I have LOVED going here! I didn't really know what to expect when I started dancing, but this place managed to exceed my expectations. Damon is a fantastic dance instructor. Even though he's a very experienced and skilled dancer, he is great at explaining things to beginners, and encouraging everybody to do their best, regardless of skill level. Every time I go to a class, I leave feeling great, and my body feels excellent for the rest of the night after having a good workout. Since starting here, I have gotten myself back in much better shape. I use the monthly membership option, where I get unlimited classes for 30 days, then register again. This option has been great, as it's allowed me to go to 3-4 classes a week, as my schedule allows. They're great for people with busy schedules, since you can attend as many or as few classes as you can, and you can register for each one individually. Anyway, I just want to encourage anyone who's in Chicago and wants to learn to dance, or to get in better shape, try TextureDance! It's a great environment for everyone, regardless of your level of experience.

Texturedance is an amazing and positive place. One of those unique small businesses that makes the world better. Damon teaches my kid dancing and body confidence - he is kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable about how to motivate. He sets the bar at just the right level - a little challenge, so there is opportunity for true pride when the goal is achieved. My kid and I feel so happy every time we go there. Kid says, "Damon can teach you how to do a headstand, and I learn from him. Without him I would not be able to do a headstand or a cartwheel or a handstand."

Just finished my first hip hop class. Seemed very disorganized. The class before ran long so we didn't start dancing til almost 30 minutes after we were supposed to start. The instructor, who was not the owner, seemed like he made up the choreography ten minutes prior. Very hectic and fast with no good explanations throughout. He would skip moves in the routine or do the counts differently each time we ran through it. Overall confusing, and it made it more difficult to enjoy dancing. Maybe it was a fluke. Debating if I should try again with a different instructor.

My group is having rehearsal here for our fundraiser in January. The dance studio space is really great and wide. It's conveniently positioned right off the 36 bus at Balmoral. There's a nice coat room/ dressing area and bathroom. A small bench is located right by the door, but you don't feel crowded because the studio is spacious in its width. Also, the non-profit rental rate can't be beat especially here in Chicago. One thing to note is that the address says Broadway, but the entrance is on Balmoral.

Damon's Vogue class is one of the funnest classes I have ever tried. I especially enjoyed the arm control portion. Damon is energetic in his approach and his passion for contemporary dance styles is refreshingly genuine! Thanks Damon for the introduction to vogue. Texture Dance is a great space for rentals as well. I was able to make a solo in his previous space and expect even better resources from his new space on Kenmore. Keep up the great work Damon and Texture Dance !

Lucky us! We can be taught by these professionals who believe in making dance accessible to everyone. I have taken two Contemporary classes so far, and both of them were PHENOMENAL! Having no dance experience, it was a bit out of my comfort zone to walk in the door, but once there, the teachers welcomed all and taught to the level of the class. I highly recommend this place if you want to learn how to move from the best of the best!

I love to get down, but I was seriously lacking in my ability to throw some shade. Damon, during the vogue class, taught me the moves and the attitude to feel like I can fearlessly strut my stuff on the dance floor. I had taken ballet and jazz for nearly a decade and eventually quit because the instructors took all the fun out of it. Not Damon! He is an EXTREMELY talented, very capable teacher, who manages to keep dance fun while working with dancers of all different abilities. I am moving back to my home state and I am very sad to leave Damon and TextureDance behind. Until finding Damon and this studio, I had never encountered such a welcoming and positive dance environment! So, if you are looking to learn new dance skills, brush up on some old skills, have fun, dance, dance to good music, dance with fun people, dance because you just want to dance, then get yourself to one of Damon's classes STAT!
