Five Restaurant Chains to Watch in 2018 | Eater

"A long-standing casual-dining chain that had a difficult 2017, losing customers to affordable fast-casual competitors and the growing trend of people preparing meals at home (meal kits)." - Whitney Filloon

I was always a big fan of TGIFridays so I was excited to find this location in Ft Smith! This one is nice even though it is a little outdated and dark, but the service is not consistent and the menu has changed a lot recently with higher prices. They do have great rewards and promos though, so we have visited a few times for their happy hour and $5 drinks and apps. I love their potato skins, spinach dip, and whiskey glazed chicken. Service is average and friendly, but they don't clear the table ever, which is frustrating when our table is always cluttered. But if you are looking for a good happy hour, it is worth stopping by! They have it every day from 3-6 and 9-close.

We recently stopped by TGI Fridays in Fort Smith and found it to be a dependable spot for classic American comfort food. We ordered their signature ribs and the Philly cheesesteak sandwich, both of which delivered exactly what we were hoping for—hearty portions and familiar flavors. The ribs were tender, with the signature whiskey-glaze giving them that sweet and smoky flavor TGI Fridays is known for. They came with seasoned fries and brocolli, making it a full, satisfying plate. The Philly cheesesteak was also a solid pick—thinly sliced steak, sautéed onions and peppers, and melted provolone served on a soft roll. It’s not a traditional Philly by any means, but it was warm, cheesy, and hit the spot. Service was consistent throughout our visit. Our server checked in at the right times and food arrived in a reasonable window. The atmosphere felt clean and casual, with the usual mix of TVs, music, and a laid-back vibe that works well for groups. Overall, we wouldn’t say it was anything surprising or elevated, but that’s not really what we came for. It’s comfort food served reliably in a space where you can relax and unwind. For a casual meal—especially if you’re in the mood for ribs or a hot sandwich—this location does the job just fine.

Google
One of only 5 tables in the rest and they brought my husband’s wings out and didn’t get my meal until 10 minutes later. Oh and ordered a mudslide and after 10 minutes told her we no longer had the time and to cancel the drink to which she replied they were having a problem with the blender. Watched as the manager showed the bartender how to operate the blender 🤦🏻‍♀️. The waitress was great and the manager apologized for the blender issue, but won’t be returning due to how long it took to get the food and also didn’t appreciate that the menu said nothing about onions being in the dish I ordered.

I like steak and mashed potatoes. It's a good place to have a small business meeting. Anything large I would call ahead. There are plenty of tables for a small party but I would still respectfully call ahead for more than 6 people. The appetizers are really nice don't miss out on that unless you are saving room for the sweet stuff. So good it's hard to choose.😊

Google
Visited for lunch. They were quick, and friendly! The meal I chose was a bit heavy on the stomach, though the flavor made up for it tenfold!

Google
Place was super clean, food was hot and my steak and salmon were on point! Pleasantly surprised and it has been years since I have been here. We shared an appetizer, 3 meals, 3 drinks and even a dessert and left right at $60. Worth it, for sure! Great quality! 👍 time of visit 4pm.

Google
Took 10 min for someone to come take our drink order after sitting down. The food was good and hot so that was nice. Had to ask for napkins that wasn't wrapped around our utensils. As we were leaving we could see in the kitchen and a waitress was sitting on the preparation table.

Stopped in the afternoon after not being in a while. I know there had been changes but Courtney is still an awesome bartender! Great service! Had the spinach dip appetizer & Blue Moon. Hard to beat!

Yelp
01-2024 Tony and I started my Birthday trip to celebrate the big one The Big 60 with a trip out West so we started off with a stop in Fort Smith, Arkansas spending night at the Hampton Inn and having dinner at Friday's next door. Our waitress was so lovely and friendly. She was so attentive and helpful. We placed our order. Tony went with a couple Miller Lite Drafts for only $2 from the bar and I went with Iced water with lemon and lime. I had the french onion soup mainly because of the Mozzarella cheese and a side salad with Ranch that I could and wouldn't eat because it was mainly cucumbers way too many cucumbers for my pouch..so I had to pass..Tony had the Tater tot thingys which he loved. The food was good, the service was good definitely recommend to all

Yelp
Wife & I came here for a nice dinner. Our server Tiffany Jew was fantastic. Our food was fair and the price was okay. The atmosphere was quiet being a Wednesday evening. We would come back again because of the service.

Yelp
Host drops silverware on the floor and puts it back on the order menu then proceeds to take us to our table. At our table we had a roaches crawling around us. Walked up out of there quick bad restaurant multiple health code violations. Clean your restaurant!

Yelp
Wow don't know what's happened here. Used to be a good place to go eat get drinks and relax. When we went in there were like 10 people in the restaurant and no one was at the reception counter. Had a few employees look at us but not indicate they where thereto help. Finally the hostess showed up looked annoyed we were there. We decided to sit at the bar and waited for the bartender to show up. When she took our order for drinks, its like she didn't even listen to what we asked for. Tried to pour us the Wrong drinks. Said never mind and walked out. No one seemed to care. What a shame to a once great restaurant.

Yelp
Been here a few times throughout my stay. Food has been on par, service fantastic, and the ambience is great. Especially on of their karaoke nights are fun. Great drinks during happy hour.

Yelp
TGI Fridays is my favorite restaurant in Fort Smith, AR! I LOVE their salmon with broccoli & potatoes! Their jasmine rice is good too! Their drinks and limeades are all amazing!

Yelp
Makayla was the best bartender I've had in while, she was fast and made my drinks real good! Her customer service is a1!

Yelp
TGIF Chain restaurant at best. Best convenience is it located next door to the Hampton Inn right off the I-40. Food was average for TGIF food. We sat at the bat for drinks and dinner. Bartender was friendly and attentive. Best part is it proximity to the hotel.

Yelp
Left after waiting 15+ minutes for our order to be taken. As soon as we sat down, waiter came and asked what we wanted to drink, then asked if we were ready to order food, to which we responded we needed a couple of minutes. Came back with drinks, left, and didn't come back until 15+ minutes later after we asked the host if he could call him so we could pay for our drink and leave. Waiter said "oh, the other waitress didn't take your order?". He was our waiter and blamed someone else. He saw us waiting to order multiple times as he passed us to attend to the table next to us. It was a slow night, which doesn't explain the inattentiveness. Do not recommend. If I could give them 0 stars, I would.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and I have had a good experience every time. Not sure why the reviews are so low, but when I sat at the bar or table, I've had friendly waiters and bartenders. Happy hour runs from 3pm - 6pm and they have several drink specials and a number of appetizers for $5. For appetizers, I've ordered the Pot Stickers and were good every time! I have also ordered the boneless wings with Jack Daniels sauce, and the artichoke dip. Both were decent. Another time for dinner, I ordered the Sizzling Chicken & Cheese ($11.60), which is a chicken breast marinated in garlic served over melted cheese with onions, peppers, and creamy mashed potatoes. OMGeeeee!!! It was soooo good! I will definitely order that again! The chicken was perfectly marinated and very juicy! I will definitely get that another time! Overall, my experience was good at this TGI Fridays, will come back in the future!

Yelp
Decided to go here since it was right across from our hotel and glad we chose it. We sat at the bar and our bartender Ruben was awesome. Food came out timely and drinks were great. Ask for a "Mexican Candy" drink and you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Tonight, 5/15/23, I'm pretty irritated, y'all know me and my reviews, I'm kind, enthusiastic, but also honest, so here goes - we saw they had 50¢ wings when we arrived, so we stopped skimming the menu and ordered those. Mine were gross, it was like eating maple syrup chicken. They don't have any spicy flavors, just like "not really mild but still mild" options. Whatever, no big deal, I don't go to Fridays because they have amazing food, I go because sometimes someone's like hey, Fridays, and I'm pretty go with the flow. Bill comes and I see I'm charged an extra 50¢ more than my boyfriend for my wings. So I ask why, and the waitress says "because they came with ranch," so I say "I didn't order ranch," to which she responds "but you used it," acknowledging I didn't order it, to which my boyfriend responds "mine also came with ranch," to which she responds "well, I could charge you, too," and like, at this point it wasn't about the money. Fifty cents? Whatever, I'm already tipping $6 on a $20 tab, I'm not taking it back, chill. That was exceptionally rude. First of all, literally the first thing out of my mouth in confused surprise after the waitress left when the food arrived was "why would they give me ranch for this" because i ordered whiskey glaze blaze. Would you put ranch on your pancakes? Well I did because I do not like sweet and savory together, so the ranch helped cut the sugar, the ranch I did not order and would not have asked for and only used because it was there and my food was gross and I didn't want to complain because she lied about there being a kick. Because i can tolerate sweet if there's enough heat. And then she had the nerve to be rude about her mistake. So yeah, I'm irritated and yeah, I wanted to take the tip back but I know everyone has bad days, so I walked out without arguing further, but geez, I am not a prick to people so it is never a pleasant surprise on the rare occasion people decide to be a prick to me. We were polite, we didn't complain, we always tip. Like why, why was it necessary to be like that.

Yelp
Shout out to our server Logan who was still in training. He did a great job getting me an off menu item. He was very friendly and confident and smart enough to ask for help when needed. He had a good trainer.

Yelp
In a word, awful. Went in with company and we waited at the bar for service for long enough that I considered leaving. After finally being acknowledged the bartenders acted like they were under the influence. We noticed that they would step away from the security camera and drink. Not a good impression. Bar was not busy, service was poor. Once we were finally served both beers were seriously short poured. We watched as one bartender reused glasses that had not been cleaned. I was disgusted, I paid and went to neighboring restaurant. Terrible experience. Bartenders should be supervised. Picture of beverage served, not a drop drank. No way to treat customers and certainly not a place management has ANY control over. I quickly decided not to order food when I saw the burnt fried food served to another patron. No quality control at all. Can not recommend.

Yelp
I applied there I've been to culinary school management etc. I was told I basically had to be Hispanic. Theres a epidemic in this city with employment people like Carlos at TGIF on Rogers in Fort Smith AR is a a r why.

Yelp
Amazing food, nice servers, would totally come here again! The atmosphere is really great here!

Yelp
I'd seen quite a few commercials on TV for how good this place is supposed to be, so I figured "Why not?" and went out to it while in Fort Smith one evening for dinner. The overall atmosphere is pretty much your standard sports bar with TVs in every corner playing some sort of sporting match, nothing to write home about there. On top of that, there was what sounded like live music, but between the TVs and ambient music playing, it was semi-drowned out. If you're going to have live music playing, then please turn off your ambient radio as it clashes terribly with that causing more of a cacophony than an enjoyable atmosphere to dine in. The food quality is just 'meh' unfortunately. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak burger, hoping for something different, but it didn't quite meet expectations. It wasn't terrible but seemed to be using the cheese as a crutch for the flavor. The Philly cheesesteak eggroll that came skewered on top was pathetic, it was lukewarm, bland, and extremely small. Keep in mind, I wasn't expecting a giant eggroll, but the fries were bigger than this thing. Sorry TGI, but I was not impressed.

Yelp
High school reunions. Yeah, just go ahead and shoot me. I have been dodging my reunions like they carry the plague. As a matter of fact, I'm not entirely sure that they don't carry the plague. Well, maybe not the plague but some of those people have to have some form of STD. As I said, I have been dodging my high school reunions but recently my wife and I changed churches and we ended up at one with the girl who is spearheading our next reunion. I dodged her and gave every excuse but she hounded me relentlessly. She finally got me to agree to go to a small meeting to discuss the reunion preparations. I was planning on skipping out on that too but then she told me that it was being held at TGI Fridays. I'm not sure I have ever been to this TGI Fridays. I know I've been to one at one time but it's been decades ago and I'm not sure which one it was. I was kind of curious about their food. Let me make this short; I showed up at the designated time and sat around with a bunch of old fossils while they roared on about the "good ol' days". I was just there for the food. The food was very good. I had a center cut sirloin with mash potatoes and broccoli. It also came with a little dish of Jack Daniels glaze for the steak. I put that glaze on everything. I would have poured it in my beer if there hadn't been so many "childhood friends" hanging about. Seriously, it was delicious. It more than made up for the small potato portions. I even looked around and saw a set of ribs, salmon, chicken, and some dishes I couldn't identify from a distance. They all looked great. I don't know why I have been dodging TGI Fridays. Yeah, the prices were higher than most places in the area. Yeah, they sang "Happy Birthday" to several people at the top of their lungs. Yeah, it took about 30 minutes to get our drinks from the bar (bartender's first night). All of that aside, the food was very good, the place was clean, the young lady serving us was an absolute delight, and I had a great time. I will be back. P.S. I'm still not going to the reunion.

Yelp
Lunch at TGI Fridays was so good! We kept asking ourselves why we don't come here more often. The steak, ribs and shrimp were so good. The beers and mojito shaker hit the spot. Our server Holly was so nice and attentive. We will be back soon!
google avatar

Ricardo O.

Yelp
Came for $2 draft and $5 appetizers. Talk about deceiving advertising. The $5 appetizers are 1/2 servings of select appetizers none of which are over $8 for a whole offer. So you can get a full order for under $8 or 1/2 order for $5. What a deal!!
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing doesn't even get remotely close to describing how delicious this place was. OH MY GOD INCREDIBLE sums it up. Our waiter Fernando did a great job. The food was hot and fresh. The drinks were perfect their bartender is great at their job. Thank you Fridays for making our experience truly wondrful

Baylee K.

Yelp
Ordered from Waitr. This is NOT Waitr's fault. This is Sizzlin' Chicken Cheese and Shrimp. No cheese was melted. Chicken, cheese and shrimp was COLD! Paid $16.00 for this.....
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Chicken nachos and drinks. ....... Chips are way way WAY to salty!!!! Clumps of salt on my chips with canned or jarred jalapeños disappointing. It seriously only had Two bites of chicken. Don't waste your money on the not so loaded chicken nachos!!!! Long Island tea???? Or was that just lemon juice with a mix of alcohol? Blueberry pomegranate Long Island was amazing!!!!! Fried green beans were ok. They NEED a better sauce.

Yelp
I really like this Friday's. It is actually one of the nicest and cleanest Fridays that I have been in in a while. The Jack Daniels burger as always was cooked just right and tasted great and the server was very attentive and very pleasant.

Yelp
After being recommended by a friend I decided to dine in tonight. Upon entering the building, I was not so welcomed by a rude hostess, then five minutes later shown to a table by a different one. But this story has a happy ending, the waitress immediately helped my table and was very welcoming and warm. The food came out in a timely manner and was cooked well, and I never had to ask for a refill! I will definitely be coming back!

Donna B.

Yelp
I came to this TGI Fridays in Ft. Smith on January 13, we had great food and great service. A few days later I realized I left my Arkansas wrap somewhere, and called to see if I dropped it there, sure enough they had it and put my name on it. I finally made it back to Ft. Smith to go in and eat; the food was wonderful, we had the Jack Daniels Chicken, the cheese cake and once again the food was awesome as well as the service. This is the best TGI Fridays. Will come back to eat here when I am in the area and will recommend this TGIF to anyone. Thank you so much!!!!

Yelp
Well, we showed up and put our name in. There was a large party in front of us so we knew it was going to be a few. They sat them so we were waiting our turn. People were coming in after us and getting seated. Multiple people kept coming up and getting seated. Still we waited. We were a party of 5. Watched others come in that size or close and would be seated almost immediately. We would ask and they told us they were getting a table ready. Group would walk up and once again they would be seated right away. Over 45 minutes waiting. By this time we were invested and didn't want to have to drive around looking for another place. We finally get seated and no one even looked at us for almost 15 minutes. Now it's been over an hour. Not even a drink. It was busy but no where near this busy. It had been a while since we have been but we used to go quite often. The manager, I think, did send us some complimentary chips and salsa but so disappointed. An hour and 15-20 later we finally got a drink. Almost a hour and a half just for a drink. I don't know what to say. I don't think we will be going back. It was a one of the, if not the worst experiences we have ever had at a restaurant. I was going to wait just another 3-4 minutes and if we weren't acknowledged at least I was walking out. Tried to make the best of it but it was a really horrible experience. Employees actually huffed in front of us when she was asked by another employee to wipe down our table. It is very awkward for us.

Teodora S.

Yelp
Poorly managed location apps were cold food was brought incorrect waited forever for drinks staff shows no interest in doing their job there was only 6 tables on a Monday night and they still couldn't give decent service HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE will not be returning to this location in ft Smith Rogers Ave
google avatar

Alexander A.

Yelp
Food is horrible, bartenders are a joke don't know how to make a drink, They staff is too busy talking among themselves then pay attention to their paying customers. It's pathetic and very disappointing.
google avatar

Jeramy P.

Yelp
It's a TGI Friday's, so you know what to expect. The food is standard for a chain restaurant, though as a keto eater, I'm really happy they moved the tomato mozzarella salad to the standard sides menu, and their ginger lime slaw is fantastic. So hard to find low carb sides when you eat out. Also, their evening weekday bartender is one of the best in town, so if you're around in the evening and want a drink, go for it. The one negative about this Friday's in particular: they feature live music and karaoke and, frankly, aren't equipped for it. It really kills the atmosphere if you're not there to see whom ever they have playing or sing karaoke. If they could move that to the patio, it'd be better.

Michael C.

Yelp
Consistently above average. Wish they would have a hiatus on the menu changes. I find a favorite and the next visit it is gone.

Yelp
Mom and I went here on Thursday night to watch game 7 of the NBA finals since I didn't have cable hooked up yet. Was surprised by how busy it was on a Thursday night! Our server was great, can't remember her name but I think it was Amanda. She was really friendly and had a great personality. We started off with a couple drinks, electric lemonade for my mom which she loved and a blackberry long island for me, which I didn't care for too much because it had too much blackberries in it, but was still tasty. We got the 3 course combo deal and the spinach dip was amazing! I loved it. Mom got the bruschetta chicken, also great. I got the shrimp and fries, so it was good too but you cant really mess that up too much. Had another round of drinks and had to take the dessert and half our meals togo which made a great meal the next day. I would have given this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the kareoke on Thursday nights. Even if I wasn't trying to watch the last game of the NBA season, I wouldn't want to listen to a bunch of people butcher country songs or even worse KILL pop songs while trying to enjoy my meal and company. But maybe this is why it was so busy on a Thursday night....
google avatar

Kerry S.

Yelp
Just a small bite before I fly out of town. No complaints about the food. It is conveniently located within walking distance of my hotel. I had the Yucatan Chipotle Chicken salad and enjoyed the spicy dressing drizzled on the meal. The service was lacking but this was due to the restaurant being understaffed. My waitress was also tending bar. She had to prepare the alcoholic and regular beverages, take orders, and bus the tables; she had 4 tables for which she had to serve. Each time something was needed, she had to walk pretty far to get back behind the bar to refill a water or get extra napkins. She was great and kept a smile on her face. Poor girl got run ragged and this was at the beginning of early lunch! All in all, the food was like every Friday's I've been to and that's a good thing.
google avatar

Paul S.

Yelp
It gets dark here on Thursdays and Fridays. Other nights are just ok. Many persons are clearly not even buying anything, byob policy for them. They have a nice enough patio. I used to stay at the Hampton because it was close to Starbucks, and would walk over. I quit going here.

Nikki H.

Yelp
Amazing service and the food was amazing management Darrell took care of me and made sure his staff did the same if you haven't been you must try 5stars all over the board

Yelp
On our way home from a trip we decided to stop in and eat because we have had great experiences at other TGI Fridays. As we were ordering we asked for certain menu items to be told they were out of much of their menu. When we got our steaks they were burnt on the outside and over cooked and tough. Plates looked like they had been left in the window too long and were dry and disgusting looking. Since we had already waited and were very hungry we ate what we could of it but it was un bearable. When I went to check out my tab ticket went from 48.00 to 76 dollars. When I asked the server what happened he said he would get a manager and they would take care of it. After ten minutes of waiting and the server passing me multiple times he came to me and said my manager took care of it. I asked for a copy of my receipt and he went back and got the manager who explained the transaction had not gone through bc I didn't write a tip on the slip yet. Turns out it did and it double charged me for my meal. Now my account is drained of all the money I had left to get by with. I found the whole operation to be badly managed and I will let everyone know what a terrible experience it was and never to go there.

Brandi H.

Yelp
HORRIBLE service! HORRIBLE food! Our dessert was literally supposed to be a full size dessert and I literally ate it in one bite, it was that small! No wonder the parking lot is always empty! PATHETIC AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!! One of the WORST restaurants in Ft. Smith!
google avatar

Kyle B.

Yelp
I have been to this location many, many times. I have consistently had good service. If there was anything ever wrong with my order, it was fixed immediately. I've never had to wait very long for service and the new outdoor patio is a nice touch. I use coupons frequently and have never felt I was treated any differently by the wait staff. The menu changes frequently which can be good and bad. I've had two favorite menu items removed but that's not this locations fault. The atmosphere is nice and the music is never too loud (unless you go on karaoke night which I try to avoid.) College age staff with minimal turnover, it seems.
google avatar

Ricky M.

Yelp
You get what you pay for, and also receive what the owner is willing to accept. Our underexperienced server was so eager to run us through her night's timetable that I almost thought I was standing in line at the Burger King. Thanks for asking if we're ready to order for the fourth time, but maybe we aren't treating your table as a country food trough. Classic friday's: tired old recipes, steaks w/ steamed vegetables sans seasonings, food reminiscent of airline dinners, and an atmosphere awash with hollow kitsch. I was reminded of another chain restaurant fact, don't order salads with any expectation above a plate full of iceberg lettuce and a 2 tablespoon serving of dressing, puh-lease! Its called mixed greens, red lettuce, leaf lettuce, anything but head lettuce and iceberg! At this point i have to give a shout out to my friends for the compromise we struck by frequenting a blah chain; one was voting for La Hurt-ya. NO.

Rachel M.

Yelp
I thought you can't screw up a bacon cb.I stand corrected all the cook has to do is burn the bacon and the burger, and they served it!
google avatar

Jenna T.

Yelp
Food is 3/4. Service is 1/4. I'll keep going because I do love me some TGI Friday's, but they really need to replace their unfriendly/rude employees.

Elle S.

Yelp
I'm not sure where to start with this place that was once a good place to dine and drink. I've been to Fridays for many years because it was one of the few chain restaurants in the area, and my last visit was simply bad. We had a group of 12 and were told it would be a 15 minute wait, but we waited 40 minutes to be seated. Our server was bad, she kept getting our orders mixed up, AND forgot the birthday girl's drink and food. They did an awesome job renovated the restaurant, but my only dislike were the black toilets. Sorry, but I would want to clearly see what I'm putting my tush on before sitting. For a Saturday night the place was fairly empty by 10PM. The quality of the food and service of TGI Fridays has severely tanked.

Joe M.

Yelp
Cheap beer Good TVs. Great appetizer specials. It's Fridays and you can go healthy by eating the salmon off the menu. The salmon offered on the menu has alfredo sauce. Also $1 beers after nine and $5 per dozen wings at the bar

Jonathan H.

Yelp
I just got done eating here, and I have to say I'm disappointed in the overall experience. Let me first say that I LOVE the sesame jack chicken strips(I came here just for those) and I hadn't eaten in 9 hours, so my food standards were very low tonight. That being said, the sesame jack chicken was not up to par, the breading was much harder than usual and about half of the strips didn't have very much meat on the inside. But mistakes happen, so the chicken didn't bother me that much. The thing that was the most frustrating was the fact that my waitress didn't seem to think that I was worth waiting on. She ran off as soon as she set my drink down and didn't give me a chance to order an appetizer, and then after she finally came back, took my order and brought me some extra sauce, she left and never came back. I ended up finishing the last half of my meal without anything to drink. I guess my patronage wasn't as important as the guys sitting around the bar drinking alcohol, because she seemed to be able to keep their drinks full no problem. I probably won't come back for awhile.
