TGI Fridays Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy | Eater Dallas

"Filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection over the weekend after the closure of around 50 locations nationwide the previous week and more than 80 closures in total for 2024. Headquartered in Dallas, the company operates a mix of franchised and company-owned restaurants spanning 41 countries; the franchised locations, as well as the brand and intellectual property held by the franchisor, are not affected by the filing. A company statement said: “The company expects to use the time and legal protections made available through the Chapter 11 restructuring process to allow the company to explore strategic alternatives in order to ensure the long-term viability of the brand.” Executive chairman Rohit Manocha cited the cause of the current woes as "financial challenges from COVID-19 and the chain’s financial structure" in a statement. Industry context notes this is part of a longer-term decline for casual sit-down chains: Eater observed in a 2017 piece that such chains "have been falling out of favor and facing financial challenges for a decade," linked to the declining spending power of the middle class, and Bloomberg similarly pointed to tighter consumer budgets and a preference for fast food as drivers of the filing. Coverage captures a broader sentiment that it may be "out with the old and in with the new — or, at least, in with the viral." - Courtney E. Smith

We had a nice family lunch at TGI Fridays. The atmosphere was welcoming, and our server was very attentive and friendly. I ordered the grilled salmon, and while the flavor was excellent and it was cooked perfectly, I was disappointed by the size of the portion. It was extremely small by American standards, especially for the price. Everything else was great, but I hope they can be more generous with their protein portions in the future.

The food and alcoholic beverages are pretty overpriced for the bland flavor they have. I ordered the dragon salmon and the double berry mojito, and it really was not something out of this world. I just sipped the mojito like 4 times and left it almost full. The server was attentive, but the host was not that friendly.

Was expecting cheaper bar style food, just something to eat while waiting for a flight, but the food was actually pretty good!

We had a wonderful dine-in experience at TGI Fridays at the airport! The food was absolutely delicious—we ordered breakfast, and boy was it good. Everything came out fresh, hot, and flavorful. Our waitress was amazing—attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome from the start. Overall, a pleasant surprise for airport dining. Highly recommend!

We ordered Cocktails and the shrimp ceviche. I will show you a photo of what the shrimp ceviche was supposed to look like. I wish we would have taken a picture of what it really did look like. The photo on the menu looks like it is crammed full of shrimp. But what you really get is a cup of pico de gallo and corn with maybe one or two shrimp cut up into tiny pieces and hardly any avocado . What a rip off! Talk about bait and switch . The only reason I’m giving you two stars is because the service was good. We told the Server to talk to his manager about it. And apparently the manager didn’t care because he/ she did absolutely nothing. Didn’t offer a free dessert. Did not offer a Discount. Absolutely nothing. We will never go back to any Fridays.

February 2025 Stopped by here right before our flight. I enjoyed my ribs and wings. Not sure why TGIF wasn’t successful outside of airport. Flavorful offerings and attentive servers during our visit. Recommended this restaurant.

First time at this location, but good to see that they maintain the same operational standards. I had the Queso Burger, which was good, but the lower bun was too thin, which made my burger collapse. The place was busy even though it was 3 pm when I got there. If you need to work, this is a good spot as a few tables have power outlets. The waitress was genuinely interested in meeting my needs as a guest.

They don’t display drink prices, which feels misleading. Always ask the cost before ordering, otherwise you risk paying nearly double what you’d expect. A drink that should run $8 to $10 at an airport bar can easily end up costing twice that here. Transparency matters, and until they start listing prices, protect yourself by confirming before you commit.
