Not my favorite Thai place but it’s good. Tried three kinds of curry (Panang, yellow, and red). The yellow was the best. Add some chicken and it’s great. Deep fried pumpkin also a nice appetizer. I liked it more than the satay which I felt needed a sauce or it’s a little dry. Thru offer brown and white rice. Best dish was pas see ew. Loved that! Next best dish was the crispy chicken in sweet and sour sauce.

Staying at the Marriott and their kitchen was closed 😕 so I was scouting around for good food and I looked at the pictures. After reading the reviews I went anyway the rice was good nothing spectacular and with all the rice that was in that box it came with a total of five (5) shrimp NOT PRAWN I just laughed. Not shocked I didn’t tip either because the owner took my order at a distance, and was not the least bit welcoming and yes I had on a 😷 I ordered prawn spring rolls and I got “Tofu” 🤦🏾 the prawn part was on top of a side salad 😕🤣🤣 the best part of my meal was I asked for NO 🌶 they got that part right and the peanut sauce it tasted like home 😜 $32.60 later I have rice for breakfast the rest was trashed #neveragain 🤣

Google
DO NOT get the fried egg rolls! Worst ever. Clearly not house-made. Tasted like a cheap frozen brand. Yuck yuck yuck. Couldn't finish them. Tossed in compost bin. Almost feel sorry for the compost, as I suspect these were loaded with unhealthy additives. If you would like a delicious fried egg roll, try the ones actually made fresh in the kitchen throughout the day at the Chinese restaurant in Point Richmond, now called Jin Ye. (Used to be called Little China. Same cooks and wonderful staff.) The chicken in my salad was dry, overcooked, and looked and tasted like cheap, processed frozen white meat. The salad itself was not fresh, tasty or appealing. Tossed most of it in the compost, too. There probably are good things on the menu since some people here mentioned things they really liked and I did see a few tables occupied, but I sure won't be going back.

Google
Great service, delicious hot fresh food. I highly recommend the tom yum soup and sweet mango sticky rice.

Google
I got crazy bad food poisoning after we ate here, we think it was from the barley tea. Not sure what can go wrong with barley tea but would not recommend.

Google
Prawn Pad Thai and a cold Thai lager! The foods authentic and the quality is great for affordable meals. It's a hole in the wall and offers a great menu.

Lisa Saunders

Google
Coconut Shrimp Mango Salad. Fresh, crispy and flavorful. Delicious!

Google
I'd probably give it 3.5 stars based on my meal. I had the lunch special with fresh roll and pad thai noodles with veggies and tofu. The price isn't bad and the portions are huge. The presentation is nice, the carrot flowers are a nice touch, the but there's nothing amazing about the food. The tofu has no flavor, the veggies clearly came from a freezer bag because it was just broccoli, green beans, and crinkle cut carrots. I assume the meat would've been much better, and it seems they have a vegetarian option just for the sake of having it. The pad thai noodles themselves are pretty good though, a little on the sweet side. You can expect $12-$15 a plate for lunch here.

Yelp
This is my favorite Thai restaurant. The ambience is very pleasant and the food is amazing! All of the workers were really nice to me and I felt very welcomed. My favorite is their Tom Kha Gai soup. It is absolutely amazing! I highly recommend eating at this restaurant.

Yelp
The ambiance is very nice. The food was absolutely amazing!!!! Very flavorful and fresh... I definitely recommend this restaurant..

Yelp
It's Americanized Thai food. I suppose every Thai restaurant has to cater to American palettes to some extent but the flavors are mild and not very complex. The proteins and vegetables didn't soak up the flavors that were there so everything was a bit under-seasoned. We had Panang curry with chicken, pad kee mao with deep fried tofu, pad Thai, jasmine rice and Thai iced tea. The pad Thai was the best out of those. It had its signature sour taste and the noodles were evenly covered in a thin layer of sauce. The panang had peas in it which is a little unusual. I'd prefer it without them. The rice was cooked very well. The Thai tea was good but tasted like the bottled version instead of fresh brewed. Portions are pretty decent. Plenty for one person but not quite enough for two people to share as a whole meal. Service wasn't great but it was near closing time so I don't fault them for that.

Yelp
My uncle chose this spot after visiting a loved one nearby. I was definitely leary just because I haven't been feeling Thai food lately. I will say the dishes I tasted were yummy. The service is just okay they definitely have room for improvement but the flavor of each dish was awesome. I got the short ribs and I loved it the only thing I wish for the price there was more meat than fat! This was disappointing but other than that I enjoyed it. I forgot to write a review a long time ago when I first tried it so this was overdue.

Susan B.

Yelp
We ordered for pick up: Param with beef and green beans for my husband. Green curry with tofu for me. Luckily, our dinner order did not come with rice. I made my own pot of jasmine rice. The rice was the best thing for dinner. Beef was overcooked and stringy. Veggies were tasteless. The green curry was pretty bland. Most disappointing.

Anwar H.

Yelp
I ordered via Doordash for Lunch. My order was Simple for 1 person. #1. Tom Kha Vegetarian Soup with Tofu. Was Hot n Quite Good. Excellent Quantity & Not too Pungent. I paired it with Brown Rice that was steamed ' just right '. Thai Iced Tea was ' Tasty & Authentic'. No Paper Napkins or Flatware were provided. No Condiments either. They sounded busy when I called. Just a note to ' Benefit the Management ' - In order to Review it was Really Hard to find them on Yelp, and on Google. I know their second name is " Bangkok Jam ", but to ' No Avail. ' !!! Maybe it's the ' Tha ' @ the start of the name that creates confusion. Nice Location @ ' Upper Solano '. A good ' small business ' to support post Covid - 19 .... Keep it Up !!! The Soup could've served 2 !!!!

Yelp
We've seen this place and kept saying we were going to try and finally did. Had lunch and it was definitely good. My wife said the vegetables and tofu were pretty good. This is the first time I've had mango curry and I was pleasantly surprised. And I love anything mango so I was pretty happy with it - you can go either way with something like that generally. There were four of us and everyone was pretty satisfied. I understand the couple we were with have been back already, lol. Good service. We'll be back too.

Sydney J.

Yelp
I ordered pad see ew and mango curry to-go; for both, I opted for vegetables and tofu. It was about a 20 minute wait for food to be ready. The mango curry had mostly caught my eye because I don't often see it offered on the menu of other Thai restaurants I've been to. There was some mango in it, but not a ton. The curry was fine, plenty of vegetables and tofu and they made it mild which is what I wanted, though it's a little on the watery side. The pad see ew was also yummy and had a pretty high ratio of vegetables and tofu relative to the noodles. The food was good overall, though not necessarily standing out such that I would specifically seek it out.

Brant B.

Yelp
We liked the restaurant located there previously (Bangkok Jam), but we REALLY like Tha Siam Bistro. I can usually tell if I'm going to like a place by the quality of their Tom Kha Gai soup; theirs is VERY good. I also love the fact that their menu isn't the standard boiler plate used by all Thai restaurants. They do a great job with the basics, but love the expansion of some unique street dishes. A go to favorite for us is the Coconut Prawns Mango Salad, amazing!

Nadine Y.

Yelp
When I was craving some thai food, my friend recommended this place to us. Rather than sitting down at the restaurant, we decided to order our dinner take out. It was quick and easy to order with them and we got our food within 25 minutes upon us ordering. We ended up ordering: Three Flavored Fish with Rice : A sautéed tilapia fish with garlic, onion, carrot and served with Jasmine rice. The fish was wrapped in foil with the sauce on top with the onion finely cut. I have to say that the fish was cooked perfectly and even though the sauce was on top of it, it didn't make the fish soggy as expected. There was about 3-4 pieces of fish, so it was a decent amount. Duck Curry : A sliced boneless roasted duck in coconut milk with red curry paste, eggplant, bamboo shoots, tomatoes and pineapple. The duck was moist and the curry had the perfect spice. This dish did not come with rice so we had to order it extra. I recommend trying out this place and you can't go wrong with any of the curry they have.

Yelp
** The following review reflects my delivery experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** I was wondering what the Jam was referring to. Perhaps they serve Thai chili jam though I didn't see it among my condiments, or it could be the traffic jams you face perpetually in Bangkok, or maybe it was that funky 90's video song where Michael Jordan taught Michael Jackson how to dunk a b-ball. That's a whole lot of jam to consider, so I'll just focus on the food I ordered from here for Jamie W. and me. It was good stuff starting with the $8.50 Veggie Fresh Rolls which were surprisingly not sliced into bite size pieces, but they were nicely assembled with the mixed vegetables, noodles, and mint leaves packed tightly with the thin rice paper with the requisite peanut sauce (photo: https://bit.ly/36imeWX). For his entree, Jamie went for the $13 BBQ Chicken which was marinated and barbecued Thai style with native herbs and spices but kept quite succulent if a tad too lacquered in texture (photo: https://bit.ly/3a8M4Oo). I went for the $12.50 Thai Crunch Salad with Chicken which definitely had the right descriptor with cucumber, carrot, peanuts, and red cabbage mixed with plenty of the same tender BBQ chicken (photo: https://bit.ly/3qOHJ9E). It was clear to us that the grilled poultry is one of their key drawing cards. Tasty comfort food when you're stuck at home, but the question then becomes whether the food gives me a valid reason to jam. OK, now it's time for me to do the moonwalk 'cause it ain't too much for me to JAM! FOOD - 4 stars...liking that BBQ chicken AMBIANCE - n/a...I know it's next to Ajanta but that's rather moot since I had it delivered SERVICE - 4 stars...well packed TOTAL - 4 stars...makes me wanna JAM! Yelp
Customer service was great Parking was right in front meter parking. Surrounding area is very safe and filled with a lot of business, mostly restaurants 1. I asked for my pad thai to be extra saucy because i knew it'd take me 24 minutes to get home, and, the pad thai would be 1 big clump... well they DIDN'T MAKE IT EXTRA SAUCY AND IT WAS 1 BIG CLUMP. However the flavor was good. Not the best. The only really good pad thai ive had was homemade from my bff mother. My Yellow Curry was excellent. Slightly spicy but not enough to burn your mouth. Very creamy with coconut milk. The spring rolls were delicious. With fungus, glass noodles, thinly sliced veggies and either tofu or taro? Very tasty and delicious. Lastly DESSERT! Excellent mango sticky rice. Delicious creamy sweet coconut milk rice with ripe fresh mango... , however, they could've been more sticky rice.... If im in the area id come back for sure. I highly recommend for people that are looking for good thai.

Yelp
I like this place. The food comes quickly and it's reliably decent. It has become my go-to Thai takeout when I'm short on time, or eat in when I just want something reliable. Some of the male waitstaff aren't super friendly, but a woman who cooked the food seemed kind.

Barb C.

Yelp
My favorite Thai restaurant. The wait staff are really nice and accommodating, and the restaurant is pretty and relaxing. My chicken fried rice was delicious, with some lettuce and cucumbers on the plate for additional veges, and my friend loved his Pad Thai. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Day 3 of Berkeley Restaurants to Go week: Bangkok Jam was next in the list. After placing my call through the phone, we made the drive. Menu itself has different options, but I rarely try Thai food. I went with the duck noodles, and my friends got the 'Hormone Free Chicken' rice. For beverages, we had the Thai Iced Tea before, so we went with exactly that again - Duck noodles: super good! It is to a premium price, but you can taste the quality and the spices on the noodles. Duck was good, but was a bit dry. - Also tastes some of the rice. Now, the Chicken rice was more to my taste. It was warm, and filled with flavor, including egg, herbs and veggies - Probably what I enjoyed the most was the drink: the Thai Iced tea. I've probably had this tea in 2 other locations, and it is sooo good! The ice gives it a refreshing taste Bangkok Jam is a good restaurant, offering high quality, premium Thai food and dishes. Day 3 in Berkeley was to a positive side :)

William L.

Yelp
I don't understand the low rating. This place is such a fund that I've already been here twice within one week of moving to Berkeley! Everything is delicious, and the service is excellent. I do wonder why some people don't like it.

Amy Y.

Yelp
My friend suggested this place after I said I wanted Thai food. We came in and was seated immediately. Being on Solano Ave. finding parking can be kind of hard. We met on a Wednesday at 7pm so parking was not too bad. The place itself is quite spacious, bathroom smells nice, and service was aamazing. We ordered a soup to share Tom kha (non spicy, coconut based) and I ordered a pad see ew with chicken. They hae large portions, and also some specials that you can see on their special menu. The soup came in a fired up bowl which is so IG worthy. The noodle had broccoli in it and some mushroom which is pretty rare. My favorite dish was the soup. Noodles were huge however it wasn't as flavorful as the soup. The service was phenomenal. The waiter came by multiple times to ensure we were helped and water was refilled. Overall, definitely a fan of this place!

Yelp
[Berkeley Restaurant Week 2021 Review] I'd been boycotting Bangkok Jam for months because their watery yellow curry really hurt my feelings. I used to love their curries but over time the consistency got thinner and thinner to the point where it was just yellow liquid. The portions also got smaller during COVID and that was my breaking point. So yes, I boycotted them!! (It hurt me, more than it hurt them) Today I returned to Bangkok to try their "Restaurant Week" offerings. I'm so glad I swallowed my pride and got to enjoy a great lunch. I went for their tier 1 menu: 2 spring rolls, chicken Pad Thai, and Thai iced tea for $15! Such a good deal for a really nice lunch. Spring rolls: crispy, fresh veggies, sauce was perfectly tangy Chicken Pad Thai: I always go with prawns for my pad Thai but was happy with how tender the chicken was prepared Thai iced tea: heavenly! I can drink a gallon of this stuff and still want more All in all, solid comeback.

Yelp
Thought I would leave a review for this place since there aren't many recent ones on Yelp. I ordered take out lunch for three people. Everything was accurate and the food was very delicious and plentiful. They were very good about explaining something about one dish that we had modified. I will definitely get food from here again. Their peanut sauce is one of the best I've had. We did not try their curries so I cannot speak to the flavor or heat of those. But the pad thai, vegetable spring rolls and wide rice noodle dishes we're very good.

Kate W.

Yelp
Yummy dinner with friends. Had a nice outside table with my friends. The service was excellent and the food was fresh and delicious.

Elaine Y.

Yelp
Have to say, the menu was complicated, different prices, different options, lunch & dinner variations and I did not see the name of the restaurant on the menu either. With that said, service was good especially when there was just one person working outside. Food was good but nothing really stood out. A decent neighborhood eatery but would prefer to try other places than returning to this eatery.

Catya D.

Yelp
Update: we've been here twice now. We liked the chicken satay, spring rolls and barbecue beef on our first try. The fourth dish was too hot. Second Time Around the chicken Satay was still great and the sauces were tasty. The Rolled shrimp appetizer didn't have enough shrimp in it. The barbecue beef was charred and too tough for me to eat. The vegetables in the Pad were so undercooked that I couldn't eat them either. It was discouraging to pay that much for a meal and be unable eat it.

Bobby W.

Yelp
They were opened for curbside pickup. The lunch special were delicious. We had a group order, which was over $50, so they gave me a beer or an ice tea/coffee for free. I order the pumpkin curry with chicken and rice. Nice chunks of pumpkin that was not mush. That in itself speaks volumes for place that do pumpkin curry. Many places make it in advance and it comes out all mushy. Anyways, it was very good pumpkin curry with chicken, for about $15, you can get the lunch and a Thai iced tea or coffee. Highly recommended. Go try it, shop the local business, we need them around.

Pete C.

Yelp
Went in was seated, then ignored the person working kept giving take out orders to drivers answering the phone , ignored us for 15 minutes. I tried to wave her over she ignored us. Lousy non existent service. When we left she did not care barely looked up . Rude discourteous, will never go back. Avoid.

Diane J.

Yelp
I never write reviews, but I felt obliged to write this one. This is the worst Thai food I have ever had in my life. It's completely tasteless. The papaya salad had no lime juice. No fish sauce basically tasted just bland. I will never order from this place again.

Rachel F.

Yelp
I really don't know how to write this review... I was pretty excited about trying this place out because of all the awesome reviews. Thai food is some of my favourite food, but something about this place was... off. This is probably the worst Thai food I've ever had. The chicken was overcooked, and the sauces used tasted strange. The fried rice was very unique--I'd never tasted fried rice that tasted like they mixed honey into it. Perhaps they were trying to add a new mix on an old dish, but it just didn't taste good. In fact, everything we ordered tasted strange. My boyfriend ordered egg rolls that tasted like bananas! He also ordered noodles, which were overcooked as well, and very, very bland. They only tasty thing was the Thai iced tea. The worst part is that we both have started feeling sick almost immediately afterward. This is a huge turn off and we suspect that maybe some of the ingredients used were expired. Definitely won't be coming back.

Bruce B.

Yelp
Came here with my friend and we had the excellent garlic lamb, Tom Kah, and Chicken satay. Service was prompt and friendly. All around, a great lunch.

D J.

Yelp
I have been here a time or two when the food was more like a 4 star. Tonight it was like the chef quit and some amateur in the kitchen took over - horrible! The eggplant dish had eggplant that was soft and mushy with tofu squares that were literally dripping in black pan sauce - gross! It also had two huge pieces of cabbage in it like leaves from the outside of a cabbage - tough and not chopped it shredded into bite sized pieces. The cashew chicken had rubbery chicken pieces in it. The spring rolls were COLD. Will not be going back unfortunately!

Randall C.

Yelp
Eaten here before and it was OK but this time food was cold, salmon was day old. Wine had to be sent back. Sweet service but wouldn't come back.

Mohamed N.

Yelp
"Solid Thai on Solano in Berkeley" Came at 6pm on a Friday night with two friends. We had the prawn fresh rolls as an appetizer and I ordered the pad see ewe for a main dish and sticky rice with mango for dessert. The restaurant was rather quiet for a Friday evening, and service was excellent-- they were helpful and kept our water glasses from ever getting emptied. The prawn fresh rolls were quite tasty, and I enjoyed the pad see ewe. One unusual aspect about the pad see ewe was that it came with mushrooms, and enough mushrooms that you could taste them. I've never had this dish with mushrooms, and I THINK I like it, but it does make it taste "different". If you don't like mushrooms, don't order this and think that the flavor will be similar. The sticky rice with mango was good-- not as sweet as it sometimes is at other restaurants. Overall, A-OK. No dish knocked my socks off, but it was good Thai with good service at a good price for a popular location.

Jan W.

Yelp
We had a great meal here for Christmas Eve! Sitting in their cozy outdoor patio, we were treated like royalty. We were greeted warmly entering, and attended to very personally throughout our ordering and all courses. We started with some nice Thai tea, flavorful and warming to go with our spring rolls. Rolls were really great, with fresh cucumbers and other vegetables packed in. I had a Pra Ram with very tasty vegetables and tofu. Everything was crisp, fresh, and tasty, from broccoli to green beans. The tofu was just right, with the flavorful sauce and crunchy little peanut crumbles on top. My husband also had the Pra Ram because it was so enticing. Our son, who knows and appreciates good good, had a huge soup that he enjoyed. He was full before it was gone, and asked to take home the left overs. We forgot to get the name, as we were busy with holiday updates and plans. We split an IPA which packed lots of flavor. I would have enjoyed one of my own, but am watching calories. Hopefully next time. The decor is inviting, artistic, warm and clean. The wait staff all wore masks, all the time, even outdoors. The rest room also was very clean. No problems except that next time, I'll order more!

Joanna S.

Yelp
Outstanding food, outstanding service. I intern at a small landscape architecture firm in the neighborhood. The principals took all the employees here for my birthday lunch this past Monday. The food was amazing. Unfortunately, they sat us near the bathroom because the large tables were on the back. I did not enjoy the smell. However, this place definitely warrants another try. Next time I'll try dinner. The service was amazing and so was the food. Wrap and Bite - truly outstanding appetizer! So much intense flavor packed in one small lettuce cup. This is a combo of lime, ginger, roasted coconut, peanuts, red onion, and Thai ginger sauce in a lettuce wrap. Seafood Pad Thai - great dish over all. Fresh and tasty, but lacked a little kick. Huge, fresh scallops, but didn't taste too much of the seafood. Good staple item, but a little overpriced. Thai Iced Tea - just about the right amount of sweet. Yum. Yum. Always say yes to Thai iced tea.

Justine C.

Yelp
For the price and taste won't be going back. Barely any meat in the yellow curry, it was bland mostly potatoes and onions. Paid a lot for sauce and veggies.

Siouxsie M.

Yelp
I went here pre Covid and it was fine. People were very nice. Tonight I got some food via GrubHub. Yikes! I couldn't eat the duck spring rolls because the different elements were soggy and slimy and something tasted very off, rotten. Pad Thai was terrible and wet and oddly garlicky but the fried tofu in it was yummy. Just not fresh in any way. I did appreciate that they didn't use single-use plastic containers for the most part.

Chelsea c.

Yelp
Overall, meh. Probably wouldn't order it again (we got delivery.) The noodles were overcooked, and we thought it was lame that the curry dish didn't come with rice! That should be automatic! Also, Overpriced, especially for the smaller portions size. On the plus side, the pumpkin curry did taste very good, and delivery was on time.

Clifford W.

Yelp
Ate dinner here. Street parking. Ordered assorted entrees, some better than others. Pad Kee mao was good. Panang beef curry was good. Basil Chicken good, but very salty. Mango curry squid was very good. Papaya salad was average. Overall taste was average.

D K.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place, to the point I had an altercation with a customer of theirs, who was not only rude but decided to break covid regulations (and just down right nasty) breeching the barrier like she was storming Normandy beach and going through all the orders because she couldn't be bothered to wait for staff. I threw her ass out. The poor waitress was in shock, to which I responded with 'just because you work here you don't have to take abuse from anyone. You can refuse service and what she did was beyond rude, it was dangerous'...that aside I just love their food. I even told my husband we were pregnant in this restaurant (in the pre-covid era, the very month the whole world changed!)

Edward H.

Yelp
Great food; excellent service during this Covid period. All curries are consistent; their fried Calamari definitely worth trying. Pad Thai and Pad See-ewe are also great dishes.

Maxwill H.

Yelp
So delicious!!! We love everything here, but the Thai Crunch Salad is my favorite. It is refreshing, fillings and yummy.

Nat F.

Yelp
The food here is fresh and delicious. The chef was very skilled in balancing the flavors of each dish. The staff were very sweet to us and the food came out really quickly.

David C.

Yelp
I've ordered before and food was good but not warm by the time it got to my house. But dined in for first time and food was all ON POINT. Legitimately Thai, staff was great. and I had the basil beef which was fantastic and we had a great mango curry that was a bit spicier than anticipated. The staff was great.

Yelp
(Less) Epic Birthday Weekend Eating Part 3: Mothers Day/My real birthday eating started with lunch with my Mommy and Daddy at this modern Thai restaurant. The 'rents had never tried it but they said "it's new and well reviewed on Yelp!" Well I guess surrounded but cornucopia of amazing thai places through out the bay area, this place is trying to be accessible to a diverse crowd but fails to really impress me with the main point--FOOD. The atmosphere is modern and quite pretty. Ok for a casual date for sure. The service was average, with the two waiters working their butts off but not really having the time to provide the service that one would expect with the decor and price. The waiter drizzled sauce all over the floor while bringing a dish to another table and never noticed or had anyone clean it up. They were out of coconut AND lime juice. We never got checked back with and had to work really hard to get anyone's attention. The food was good but nothing remarkable. The best thing was the "Rapid Bite" appetizer that had grilled shrimp, toasted coconut, and a tangy sauce served in the top part of a baby romaine lettuce leaf. The curry flavors were average. My dish was supposed to have egg plant (one of the reasons I got it) and didn't. My mom's beef was low quality, dry, and tough. Meh. I've experienced better. Maybe because they are new they havn't worked out the kinks, but I think it is worth it to go somewhere less modern and fancy but get better and cheaper food. For the beginning Thai food eater, this is an easy transition into South East Asia. For me, it lacked luster.

Anoosh V.

Yelp
Had takeout and found a long hair in Thai iced tea that I was drinking . Very disappointed with my first experience here

Kymberli S.

Yelp
I should've done my research darn it. I didn't realize that this was the Bangkok Jam restaurant on Solano and unfortunately I ordered from them. Their fried crab "golden crab" it's called. They were terrible. Super greasy and burned. No flavor, terrible! The restaurant contacted me and insisted that the burned order was set aside while another batch was being made for me but somehow the burned batch got in my order. I can understand that if they are busy but it doesn't take care of how greasy they were. They need to make the temp of oil hotter and dip those for only 3 min maybe less.

Mary W.

Yelp
Horrible services! Takes almost 2 hrs for delivery and food was cold and my curry was over cook! The worst thing is that they keep saying that the food was on there way every time I called them but never made it to their words

Tammy D.

Yelp
Recently re-tried this little Thai place at the top of Solano Avenue. Sorry to say the food was really bad. Spring rolls were burned, dipping sauce was inedible. Hawaiian Fried Rice was bland and goopy, with what tasted to be several days old canned pineapple. Prices are fairly high. I would avoid this restaurant.

C F.

Yelp
We used to like this place (ever since its take-off-your-shoes seating before remodeling), even though quality varied over the years. Yesterday was such a low that we will take a longer break. On the plus side, they've partly reopened for semi-indoor seating (windows & door open, so quite chilly), take hygiene measures (check guests' temps, sprayclean plastic tablecloths), food arrived quickly, and one of our three dishes was pretty good (red curry with chicken), as well as the white and brown rice (hard to ruin those). But the other two dishes were really disappointing and/or went wrong. The cashew veggie entree had too many undercooked onions and was SUPER salty - I had to let each drop of sauce drip off so it became somewhat edible. The "King&I" noodle plate also was much saltier than necessary, and lacked any other flavors. We ended up taking it home, rinsing it off, and refrying it... The tofu in both dishes had an unpleasant sour aftertaste (maybe not fresh anymore?), and the small portion of sticky rice felt reheated, glued together, and flavorless. At first we didn't trust our tastebuds, then they became numb from the salt overdose, and we also didn't want to complain to a small business reopening after the pandemic. But when we were paying, I mentioned the excessive saltiness to our server, and she simply said "I'll let my chef know". Not "Oh, I'm sorry! You could have said something earlier / we'll make sure to do better next time / let me take something small off your bill / would your son like a small dessert?" - nothing. Food not great can be an exception, but reaction to a customer problem is another thing. That's when we decided it deserved a Yelp.

Yelp
No reservation needed on Sat at 7p, although it filled up by 7:30. Friendly, relaxed service, and tasty, fresh food. Some inconsistency with spice heat (My 'medium' heat Pad Thai was bang-on accurate, but the curry ordered 'mild' was also a medium. Dinner for 4 with an appetizer and drinks was under $100. The Solano Ave strip is filled with lots of ethnic dining options, and cool-looking, independently owned shops. We'd return.
