What Mayor Pete Buttigieg Eats on the Campaign Trail | Eater

"A takeout option that supplied large platters of fried rice, pad thai, egg rolls, and fried dumplings for an evening stop; the candidate sampled a fried dumpling and then ate a plate of chicken pad thai with an egg roll, while staff opted against sushi as too risky for campaign catering." - Gary He

Had zero expectations going in. Was very pleasantly surprised. Had 4 rolls - all delicious. The trip of Asia appetizer was wonderful, particularly, the gyoza and crab rangoons. Also ordered pad-see-ew to go. While it was good, it was nowhere near as good as the sushi. Definitely recommend.

Husband and I tried this place out as a recommendation from the co-owner (great guy) as we previously dined at his other restaurant “Vulcan”. We got there about 2 ish in the afternoon and it was quiet and slow paste. Our first impression of the restaurant when we arrived was that it was inside of an old building downtown, the furniture and decor was outdated and some of the booths were ripped. Overall though, yet the atmosphere and vibe was slow and yet relaxing. I think mainly because it was just probably us and maybe 2 other people. It kind of had like an old vintage vibe per se. We were greeted by Miew with friendliness and seated by the windows. Miew was polite and very friendly and showed us Menu items and explained what some menu items were that we wanted to try. What we ordered: Drinks- Thai Tea 10/10 Shirley Temple 10/10 Appetizers- Gyoza (fried) 5/10 (too bland) Sauce 10/10 Lunch Special- Sashimi (3) pieces salmon, yellowtail, tuna 10/10 for all the sashimi It was the bento box lunch special and it came with other items. The others dishes in the bento box like salad 7/10 and egg roll 1/10 (not much flavor, and plain). Miso soup was 9/10. Hubby ordered the Cashew nut special 8/10, it was very tasty. I enjoyed the sushi roll 9/10. It was a sweet lunch special 2/$12. We had the Kanikama roll and Spicy Tuna roll. Tasted really good for being in IOWA. All in all we had a nice lunch and enjoyed a calm afternoon in downtown Mason City.

Beautiful and cozy atmosphere with attentive staff and amazing food!! My wife and I went for our anniversary and they didn’t disappoint. They have the best sushi around and great proportions.

Food is always great. Fried rice is super good as well as the sushi. Normally out of Saporo but they had it this time. We always come here but the inside could use an update or cleaning. Just might be that its a dark in there but it seems dirty.

What a surprise to find good sushi in Iowa. Joshua was an excellent waiter. He was very attentive to our table and was able to answer all our questions and requests. The price of our dinner was very reasonable. Although we are not from here, we will be back when we come back to town. Thanks for the great experience.

The food and service at this place is amazing. Sadly the only bad thing is the lighting. It has windows to let light in when sunny but it is pretty dark most days, especially when raining. Their sushi is amazing and they are worth the trip. Food is expensive so expect to spend $20 a piece.

Very, very delicious food all around. But the service depends on the day. The head hostess with the messy bun is always stressed, and never has any spunk or personality. Very unpleasant hostess, but the servers are usually friendly, and fast. Also, they do have a kids menu and they are very autism friendly, so that is a definite brownie point in my book.
