Where to Find Terrific Thai Food in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Not surprising that a sticky rice burger joint has found a home in Pacific Beach where customers can grab a bite to sit on the boardwalk or beach. Popular items include the Thai sticky rice burger bun with marinated Thai-style barbecue chicken. If you’re not in the mood for bread with Thai flavors, try the Thai chicken satay-loaded fries or spicy karao pork bowl with sticky rice." - Helen I. Hwang

Google
This place seriously blew me away. They serve burgers with sticky rice as the buns, and not only is the concept cool — the flavor was amazing. Everything had a really authentic Thai taste that made it stand out from any regular burger joint. The owner was super nice and welcoming, and you could tell he really cared about the food and your experience. He recommended the spicy burger and wow… it was off the chain. Tons of flavor, just the right amount of heat, and it somehow made you want another bite even while your mouth was cookin with some thai heat!! The Thai BBQ fries were also a hit — everyone at the table loved them. Perfectly seasoned, crispy, and addicting. And don’t even get me started on the Thai iced tea — served in mason jars, super refreshing, and they even do refills at a smaller charge which is a nice touch. Overall, just a really cool spot with a chill vibe, awesome food, and great people. Definitely coming back!!!

Google
These 2 guys have a food truck at the Japanese gardens. The food was great! Fries were as fresh as could be, they sliced the potatoes 🥔 right in front of us. Everything was flavorful and spice was on point, not too much. Also, the guys were super chill and helpful because we're visiting and never had Thai.

Google
This place is disgusting! 🤮 I ordered the pork sticky burgers with french fries. Pork was so salty it was not edible. The friend were old and full of grease. They tasted like they were put back in the grease to cook again so they were warm. The burger literally falls apart because it is so poorly made. And did I mention all the gnats and mosquitos inside? They leave the door open (assuming they are too cheap to use A/C) and the there is no moving air inside so the bugs just keep flying around you.

Google
The owners and staff are always so sweet and respectful! I always enjoy my visits! I've tried everything on the menu and can say there's no bad food! My recommendation would be a chicken satay with egg, cream cheese wanton and a boba Thai tea!

Google
OK restaurant. I got the Thai BBQ Pork Fries, it was decent, wasn’t bad, but did not live up to my expectations. The location is kind of hidden. First overall impression not so good, but I will have to try the actual Rice Burgers next time I visit. Overall 3 ⭐️

Spice of Life

Google
Small spot serving unique pork rice burgers. The bun is sticky rice. And the pork meat is very tender and not too sweet. They are soooo delicious! Sometimes the best food is in a simple plain restaurant. Check them out!

Google
Small corner spot with great Thai burgers. Employees are super friendly and helpful. Such a unique sandwich that you gotta try! Not buns here. If you like spicy, get the pad kaprao pork burger. It was delicious. You get two patties and a fried egg. Yum.

Google
Caught them at Balboa park, just had to try their Sticky Rice burger. It is fantastic. My wife kept saying, but the sauce! Yes the concept was new, different, but the sauce. Amazing. Got to try and find this in Denver.

Yelp
I was volunteering at the Japanese friendship garden for a day event, and saw that there were two different food trucks outside. We had a lunch break and I wandered my way over to the Thai Burger Company - wow I am so glad I did. Perry (like the platypus) recommended me the spicy kapraow pork burger as someone that can handle spice. I am SO glad I tried this, it was incredible! Flavors on point, and I love that the burger uses sticky rice instead of a bread bun so this may also be good for you gluten sensitive folks out there too. Perry is super kind, funny, and overall a fantastic owner/chef. The vibes are great and I would return in a heartbeat. Can't wait to try one of the bowls next time!

Yelp
Tried the Thai Burger Company at the Tuesday UC San Diego Farmers Market. I ordered the #10 which came out to $18.00 even, which I paid for with my credit card. Food options: They have burgers (sticky rice as buns), fries, or bowls. Pros: -delicious. The pork was grilled to perfection. -large portion size! I was hungry and ate everything but this could have easily been multiple meals. Cons: -none

Yelp
Got to try the Thai Bbq Burger, and it was soooo good!!! Didn't know what I was missing out on till I tried this, and it was hot and fresh, super tasty not salty. The sticky rice really complimented the beef patty, literally amazing mixes of taste! It was greatly paired with a cup of Thai Tea, also really yummy and sweet! Perfect pair to get here. Thanks so much!!!

Yelp
Overview: Amazing service, fresh and tasty food Perry and Peter are so welcoming and friendly, top-teir service! I came to the Otay Ranch Tree Lighting and followed my nose to the delicious smells coming from their canopy, I had to stop by. They have a physical restaurant and along with the Otay Ranch Farmers' Market on Tuesdays, they can be found at the SDSU Farmers' Market on Thursdays! ---- Classic BBQ Pork Fries $17: - It's like Thai style carne asada fries - They hand cut the potatoes right there and fry them up fresh - The fries are topped with BBQ pork, cheese, aoili, and green onions - Can also be topped with an egg (highly recommend) - Savory, creamy, delicious Chicken Satay Burger $12: - Unique idea where they use sticky rice buns instead of bread buns - Burger fusion with chicken satay, peanut sauce, red onions, cucumbers, aajard dressing - The red onions, cucumbers, and dressing brings a fresh flavor to creamy, nutty flavor ---- Overall: Unique, yummy Thai fusion, wonderful service

Yelp
11-19-24: Food booth at Otay Ranch Town Center Farmer's Market. Love the concept of burgers using rice patties. We tried the Fried chicken over rice bowl topped with egg. Delicious with cucumber slices, fish sauce and combination of sweet and spicy flavors.

Yelp
A unique fusion place; the food was pretty good and had a good level of heat. The burgers were tasty but felt like a little something was missing (veggies) and wished the rice was fried a little harder to make holding it easier. The pad kraprao burger was packing serious heat and was really tasty. That and the pad kraprao fries were super delicious. Nobody could stop eating the fries. Speaking of which the fries themselves are pretty amazing, reminiscent of a certain Cali-famous chain; they're a bit thinner which added to the appeal. The restaurant itself is a bit on the minimal side, I can see them catering to quick grab and go or small groups/solo diners. One big challenge is the parking lot, which has limited parking and probably a crowded during the lunch rush. Overall, solid experience with a unique fusion take. Worth a try if you're looking for something a little different but still packs a good flavor punch!

Yelp
Foods delicious and hits the spot everytime! Tried out their combo special of any burger, appetizer, and choice of water or canned soda. Amazing value for a filling meal. Service is always friendly and restaurant is chill with a cool much station in the background. I will always come back for their burgers and Thai tea!

Yelp
Alright so this is one of those "my experience was so good i finally made a yelp account" kind of reviews. I met them at the sunset market in Oceanside on 2/20/2025 at their food truck, I ordered the spicy pad kaprao fries, and the wait was a bit long (they were very busy and only had 2 people) but the guy running the spot was super nice and gave me a free Thai tea (delicious) and an extra egg with my food for the wait (a blessing considering egg prices these days). I soon after got my food, holy f*** It was awesome I don't even know exactly what I was eating tbh but it was delicious, some of the best street food I've ever had at the Oceanside market and I bet their physical location is even better. I can't wait to go back to try more
google avatar

Deanna M.

Yelp
The food is amazing, the owners are nice and the place is clean. They also have the best Thai tea in San Diego! I only wish they were open on Monday and Tuesday as well.

Yelp
This place is pretty cool and unique. I've never had a "burger" between sticky rice before coming here. I tried the spicy pork burger with an egg for lunch and came back later in the week and tried the bbq pork bowl. I preferred the bowl, but I may like the bbq pork or chicken on the burger more than the spicy pork. I'm a mild to medium spicy guy and this was a little more spicy than I would have preferred. But if you like spicy it's not bad at all. Prices are pretty good though at only about $10 for the burgers. The eggs on burger and bowl were good. My only small complaint for the bowl was that the sticky rice is too sticky for the bowl. It was hard to eat it with a plastic fork/spoon because it wouldn't separate.

Yelp
Amazing Thai Iced Tea!!!!! Really tasteful and great for a really sunny day! Discovered their food truck at Kobey's Swap Meet at Pechanga Arena!

Yelp
Small place near the base. After driving by the sign for a couple of months, we decided to go in to try. We were more than pleasantly surprised by our Thai fusion food. We had the classic BBQ pork fries. These are very similar to Carne Asada soda fries or bulgogi fries, with a delicious flavor profile and a unique sauce. I certainly enjoyed them, but I do not think they are the headliner. Definitely I feel like this was a play it safe option. Our "burger" was served with a rice patty bun and the satay inside. It was messy, but wow. This is the dish that will bring us back. Our regular commute to the area ends in about a month, So I will definitely have to make another couple trips before that happens. It will be worth coming out of the way to visit again after that.

Evan M.

Yelp
Hands down the best vendor at the farmers market. Get the spicy chicken bowl (you can thank me later)

Diane W.

Yelp
Actually, very good. The sticky rice for the bun is really a cool idea and really tastes good
google avatar

Yelp
For December nights in balboa this year we tried the bbq pork and the spicy pad kaprao burgers and they were super tasty! I'd never had a burger with the buns switched out for rice. Though I loved the flavors, serving size, and spiciness it was a bit too much rice and the whole thing was pretty sticky. The cooks and people in the booth were super cool and friendly, letting us take pics of them while they made the patties and eggs. We also got the Thai iced tea with boba and again, though it was good, it was a little too sweet and the boba was really gummy. I'm sure their actual location will have better quality and freshness than just a pop up in the park.

Eugina M.

Yelp
The rice burger is good but just for the first day. I bought three of them to be delivered because I'm pregnant with major vomit episodes. I made a mistake of buying it all at the same time because the second day the rice was SOOOoO hard. Couldn't salvage it honestly. It sucks because 20$ went down the drain.
google avatar

Panda K.

Yelp
loaded fries, Thai style hamburgers, Its in the corner of the shopping mall. this is a physical location from the food truck. We all know and love. After 4 PM, deliver on base with a five dollar delivery fee. They do not have restrooms so keep that in mind.

Yelp
Delicious sushi burgers, 10/10 very clean and solid! Definitely ordering more from this place !
google avatar

Kaylee L.

Yelp
I saw the food truck at the farmers market and was excited to try it. The photos they had up on their truck made it look really good. But what I got didn't look anything like the photo. The bun is made of rice patties instead of bread but it just looked like someone slabbed rice on top of the meat without even trying to mold it into the shape of the patty. The meat was thin with a rubbery texture. And even though they put spicy sauce in it, the taste was bland as though they attempted to put spicy sauce on it to cover up the lack of flavor.

Lori A.

Yelp
These guys are such a class act. Havent been served food by people this cool and friendly in a minute! We tried them at the Japanese friendship garden, and their food is amazing. Got the loaded fries and a Thai iced tea, and they gave my kids a sticky bun thai burger FOR FREE. We all agreed everything was delicious, and we would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
I don't know which is happier, my tummy or my taste buds! I was a little skeptical, I mean Thai and burgers?! Amazing! Do yourself a favor, eat at Thai Burger Co.!

Trevonte J.

Yelp
I've been living on base for 2 years now and every weekend I look forward to the Thai food truck! Always has some amazing food and amazing people.
google avatar

Karina A.

Yelp
Even tho I have only had a few of their plates .. I love love love this place. Easy ordered 3 times. The service is great and on time always. I definitely would recommend this place and keep coming back myself.

Katie M.

Yelp
Got a bbq pork burger and the spicy kaprao fries at their stand at December Nights at Balboa Park. Perfect amount of heat on the fries and the sauce on the pork was incredible! So excited to have found this place and excited to get food from here again.

Christopher T.

Yelp
Epic classic Barbecue Pork fries! Plenty of food and Delicious...! Will definitely come back!

Diego T.

Yelp
This place is awesome! They have a nice combo going on right now where it's a burger, appetizer, and a drink for $15. Service is great too
google avatar

Stevenn K.

Yelp
I've had the privilege to visit this incredible food truck at kobeys swapmeet in San Diego! The person working was a one man army, he kept the place nice and clean, also made the food and took the orders. Customer Service was impeccable. If the food truck was that nice I could only imagine how wonderful the restaurant is. I definitely recommend the food.
google avatar

Charles W.

Yelp
I was blessed by these wonderful people with a burst of big flavor. The chicken satay fries and spicy pork burger with sticky rice bun is the absolute bomb of flavor I imagined a place name Thai burger company would come with. I also had the green tea with boba which was the perfect refreshing touch to an awesome meal. The whole vibe of this place is very chill and laid back they ladies working this day were patient and kind. I'm definitely coming back for a lot more. J

Yelp
Valeria at the Thai Burger was fabulous. Never been there before, she explained the menu and and made excellent suggestions. I had the spicy pork burger with loaded fries. My companions tried the regular pork burger and some seafood balls. All of it was excellent. We will definitely be back.

Julian E.

Yelp
Valerie was a very sweet cashier, i've never tried thai before, but she helped me with recommendations, and was very accommodating to the things im picky about in my food lol. great restaurant, definitely coming back soon!

J R.

Yelp
Great service, and food was bursting with flavor. The girl helping me was very friendly and patient. I ended up getting the peanut chicken and spicy bbq chicken and both were outstanding. All Killer no filler, and good value for the price.

Yelp
For those who tired of the normal way of BURGER. We are talking about normal buns, meet, cheese, lettuce, tomato and whatever you name it. Check out this place and you will discover your new favorite go to! I love it, people there are so sweet! Can't wait to go back again!!

Yelp
Easily one of the best lunches in National City. The food was delicious, served in ample portions and was freshly made in a timely manner. I went with the classic BBQ Pork Burger, fries and coconut tea with boba. The one person working both the kitchen and the counter was incredibly polite and gave great advice on the menu. I will definitely be coming back.

Evelyn M.

Yelp
The spicy bbq chicken is served over a lot of sticky rice. Very little ground chicken with so much of white sauce on it! Made my throat itch.

Arcy R.

Yelp
Food is is always good, i specially like the spicy kaparo burger & add an extra egg. They've also added a lot of new items since the shop opened. Staff is always friendly, even when they're by themselves running the shop. I'll forever come here! They have drive up pick up, which is nice when it's cold out.

Phoenix J.

Yelp
BRO. When I tell you my wife was FAMISHED and craving Thai burger company. I was mad late to pick her up ( my b) and we waltzed in 30 minutes til close and Jordan greeted us with a friendly smile and was more than happy to help whip up my girls FRESH and HOT meal ( with the extra egg). Homie saved my marriage and made my wife happy. 10/10 stars if I could but alas 5 is what I'm capped at.

Tony _.

Yelp
Was just here with a couple of days ago with some buddy's and the food is great! we had the sticky rice burger and fries and the protein was delicious the sweetness with the hot sauce they have makes it a perfect spicy and sweet meal.
google avatar

Dylan Y.

Yelp
I had the chicken burger and it was super good. I usually can crush a few burgers in one go, but with the rice bun, they are very filling. It was really unique and delicious

Wint K.

Yelp
Service was amazing! Delivery was fast and efficient, delivered right to door which is awesome because most cannot access where I live. The only thing review i had is the fact that I ordered eggs on both bowls and you can clearly see it's not included. The people there are super friendly and helpful. The food taste so delicious
google avatar

Omar G.

Yelp
Man, I'm so let down by this please. This used to be my favorite favorite and now they don't offer the same things they used to offer on the menu at the other location. The chicken burger tasted super super fishy. It was pretty gross. Super let down no spice to it. They used too much fish sauce or something. But overall I'm not happy. I spent like $35 on lunch and threw one of the burgers out super letdown. Not sure what happened to this place. They used to put a lot of love into their food and now it's totally different.

Tami C.

Yelp
Been waiting for this for so long since they closed their other physical location! Same good flavor and good people serving them. Little more pricey but that's everywhere now. Been here 4 times in the past 2 weeks after finding them.

Michael S.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying I am an incredible picky eater and my friends tell me that I have the palate of a 5 year old.. I normally don't try new food or new places because of how picky I am, but this place... OH MY LORD its sooooo good!! I've had it twice now in the span of a week. So far, I've had the classic bbq pork Thai burger and the Lobster rolls. It can be a bit pricey but its definitely worth it! I will definitely be going back next week to try something new off the menu.. My only concern is that I do not develop food fatigue from The Thai Burger Company because I am going so much lol

Amanda C.

Yelp
We come here every time we're in San Diego. Its soooo good! We also saw baby raccoons outside when we came late after comic con this year. Incredible.

Nhi N.

Yelp
Good portion, worth the price, friendly, good service, good atmosphere, adorable logo

S R.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. The cashier was nice. Unfortunately the chicken bowl that they recommended had a heap of salt on it, like they were trying to hide something. I'd say it was hardly edible, but, honestly, I was too hungry not to eat. BIG mistake! I woke up this morning to food poisoning! $17 for what??

Susan A.

Yelp
Went for lunch today with a friend. We got the Classic BBQ Pork Fries and the Chicken Satay Rice Bowl to share. They were both delicious and couldn't decide which our favorite was. The girl working was so nice, gave us recommendations and checked in with us to make sure we enjoyed our lunch. I'll be back soon!

Darren T.

Yelp
The last time I had enjoyed this restaurant's classic rice burger, I had to hunt down their food truck. While on vacation, I was excited to be able to share this novel food offering with a friend; we had the traditional rice burgers and the way too generous classic french fry basket. Delicious and filling, I highly recommend dining here.

Jonathan H.

Yelp
I love thai food. I found this place online right after the Padres game (5 minute uber from Petco park). The BBQ chicken fries completely satisfied my beer munchies.

Ray M.

Yelp
It was my first time having this and I got the spicy pork bowl, presentation was very appealing and appetizing. It was a very well put together dish, the pork was nicely marinated and the sauce with cut chives paired nicely with the bed of rice that was cooked just right. I will say, the thai tea was delicious. With all this being said I enjoyed the meal and my beverage, but my stomach says otherwise I don't think I'll be getting food again only because I don't think I'll survive another experience like this nor will I have toilet paper afterwards. The tea was delicious I'll definitely be getting that again.
