Decided to try this nice little Thai restaurant for dinner. Ordered Thai Iced Tea and water to drink while we decided what to order. Started out with the Fish Cakes appetizer, followed by 2 individual bowls of soup, Kaeng Chut and Tom Yum (spice level 2). The fish cakes were good, but the ingredients were not all mixed in well, having a couple of whole (kaffir lime?) leaves cooked in on the bottom of one of the 4 cakes. The cucumber, onion and peanut sauce lacked chili (much to Pat L.'s delight). The soups were also good, but the spice level on the Tom Yum seemed more like a 3 to me, not really an issue since I like spice.
For entrées, Pat chose the Matsamun Curry with Chicken (spice level 1) and I chose Green Curry Seafood (spice level 2). The Matsamun Curry, in addition to potato, onions and peanuts, also had sweet potato, a rare but excellent addition to this classic dish, contributing a slightly sweet flavor. The Green Curry, with green and red bell peppers, also had slices of Japanese eggplant instead of the traditional round Thai eggplants, unfortunately, their delicate flavor was lost in the well-spiced curry sauce. It also lacked bamboo shoots which I think are more common in this area. Despite these 2 minor flaws, the dish was still very good.
We finished the meal with Mango Sticky Rice, which was good, but could have used a bit more of the coconut cream.
Service was very good and the restaurant had a clean, modern look. We will be back to try more of interesting selection of dishes on the menu.
