Yelp
Rockville Town Square has seen better days (hopefully will come back soon!), but this place is popular and packed in the evenings. And I see why. The ambiance is fun. The restaurant has a variety of colorful items hanging from the walls. I don't know if there's a theme connecting them all, but they are bright and colorful and fun.
The service is good. Water glasses are kept full by a Staff who are diligent but not intrusive. Friendly greeting upon entry, upon being seated and when leaving. Very comfortable and nice atmosphere.
Then there's the food. We usually get the curries (Massaman, Green, Red) or noodle dishes, like Pad Thai, which are good. Generous portions, served hot and nice spicing.
Last night, first, the soups (have to start a Thai meal with soup!) We ordered a Tom Yum with chicken and a Tom Ka with vegetables. Both were good. Lots of chicken in the Tom Yum and a variety of large pieces of vegi in the Tom Ka. We each noticed that the soups were not very spicy or flavorful with the first spoonsful. So, we stirred the cups and then the spiciness came forth. So, I recommend you stir the soup well when you get it. Particularly for the Tom Ka (coconut broth), it got more flavorful and delicious the more I stirred, which suggests that the spices were not uniform in the broth.
To try something different, we turned the menu over and tried the "Shophouse Selfies," billed as "higher rank street food dishes from Bangkok night market shophouse kitchens." We got the Shrimp Pumpkin Curry and the Southerner's Comfort (wok fried southern style karahi chicken with lime, lemongrass, with boiled egg and cucumber - spicy!) Both came with white rice. Both were delicious. They warned me about the spiciness of the Southerner's Comfort, which did take a lot of mixing with rice for me, but it was good. Between the two entrees, the shrimp dish is likely the one we would get again. Although good, the Southerner's Comfort - maybe because of the spiciness - got to be "more of the same" with each bite. On the other hand, each bite of the Shrimp Pumpkin Curry made you look forward to the next bite. The curry was rich and flavorful and there was a nice portion of shrimp. We couldn't finish either entree after the soup and are looking forward to having them for lunch.
There are other good Thai restaurants in the Rockville area, but this definitely is a good one.
