Yelp
(Dined 10/06/18 SA @ 5:00pm): This korner was too large to be kozy, but you might go coconuts for their Thai food!
I finally took a break from the 2018 Eagle Rock Music Festival which highlighted local music acts, activities, and businesses, wanted a peaceful sit-down place to relax and rejuvenate, then saw this beacon of daily Happy Hour bliss https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=ou98OF2Ly0tDOF4NXTRNNA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw for Thai Coconut By Kozy Korner! Another restaurant I've seen for many years but for whatever reason never made a real effort to give them a shot until now (honestly...the Happy Hour sign sealed the deal!). Would I be comfortable enough to nestle up to this eatery in the future!?
PURCHASE
Singha Beer 5% ABV ($3.00 x2 HH): I couldn't pass-up this happy hour opportunity! This German style lager was like any other Asian beer with its light watered-down sensibilities and a way to hydrate; so nice on this hot day I had it twice https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=bZ19HeSvPaYIiDRBv1tZUw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw!
Thai Salad Side (COMP): A simple enjoyable salad with a creamy peanut dressing https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=c18j1pZvFGv8QoSuyU16fw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw.
Pad Kee Mao Pork ($9.50): Spicy pan-fried flat noodles with chili, onion, bell pepper, and basil leaves, I asked for this spicy hot...and it gave me some manageable sweats! This portion size was so huge that I had leftovers - score! This dish was steaming and nearly overflowed the plate as it was placed in front of me. I was impressed by the amount of flavorfully moist pork, a decent assortment of vegetables, perfectly-cooked noodles, and again the right amount of spiciness - I was in hog heaven https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=RAPARd06BUakLyzgWMj08g&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw!
SERVICE
I was immediately greeted by a friendly young woman prepping for the dinner crowd. It appeared there was only one other small group at this time, so I had the pick of wherever I wanted to sit. As she gave me the menu, I asked and she explained the Happy Hour menu to which I quickly ordered a beer that arrived before I settled in. Once I placed my food order, it took no more than five minutes before it was in front of me. I was checked on throughout my meal, had my water glass filled, another beer delivered, and quickly enough a to-go container and the check since I needed to get back to the event - "khaawp-khun"!
PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance)
Although I walked, they had a medium private parking lot. Otherwise, there was a plentiful mix of metered and timed street parking along the main drag of Colorado Blvd. as well as all surrounding streets (read all posted signs carefully)
ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE
A vibrant yellow exterior and a colorful marquee instantly drew your attention to this medium-large building. Once you entered, there was the takeout counter and refrigerated cases directly to your left and then a deceivingly expansive floorplan filled with tables and booths (outside dining patio, too) with some nice floral arrangements and a very bright and clean interior https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=2w1rYkkcxdQ2OPCiTncfQQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Plenty of natural lighting came through all the glass windows and doors that surrounded the entire restaurant while a mix of electric recessed and track ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were a couple TVs but couldn't recall and background music.
ATTIRE
Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops.
OVERALL
Although I only ordered one dish during my first experience with Thai Coconut By Kozy Korner, I was impressed and planned to return so I could try other Thai food staples of mine. In addition to the food, the prices where very affordable, the service excellent, and I truly needed to further explore that Happy Hour! I found exceptionally good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $17.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 4.5 STARS
