This Hollywood Thai Night Market Brings Bangkok Vibes and Food to LA | Eater LA

"I ordered longan juice and Thai tea at Thai Country Cafe, where classic Thai soda syrups are served by a mixologist dressed in a pirate costume." - Kat Thompson

This restaurant has several great points. First it's located in the Loop 6223 Delmar Blvd 63130. There is free street parking in front of this place on the whole block. The pay machine has been removed. The decor is unique, the atmosphere is antique and the subdued lights are very soothing. The Thai dishes I ordered were so good. My server was fast, professional, and so polite. She answered my questions.

Unfortunately I can't give 6 stars. I brought my Thai wife here because I heard the flavors were authentic. My wife was amazed that this was the first time she has had Thai food away from Thailand that tasted like home. The 61 choices of dishes made us get 3 to share and we wanted to try more. We had Pad cha, delicious, Red curry, Amazing, and Boat Noodles, put a huge smile on my wife's face. To add to everything, they gave us a complimentary appetizer, WOW. We are from Chicago and have had Thai food everywhere we go and this place is #1 when it comes to authentic flavors. I wish it was closer to home.

Thai Country Café on Delmar is the kind of place that sneaks up on you. One minute, you’re just looking for a solid Thai spot, and the next, you’re in a seafood-induced trance, transported straight to the streets of Bangkok. Seriously, if you’re a seafood lover, this place is dangerous in the best way. #stlouispescatarianapproved We kicked things off with the fresh spring rolls and if I had stopped there, I still would’ve been happy. They were light and fresh. But, of course, we had to keep going. Enter: the seafood fried rice. Fluffy and absolutely LOADED with seafood. Then came the fish curry, rich, creamy, and just the right amount of heat. Portions? Massive. Go hungry or go home. You will be leaving with leftovers, and you will be excited about it.

Google
Cockroach in my food! It was literally floating at the top of my green curry. Enough said. Clean up your restaurant please. I threw the whole thing in the trash whilst refraining from throwing up.

Amazing food Excellent service. Unfortunately we went out and left our food in the car over night. Sad loss. 😢

Google
Probably a different style of Thai food not to our liking. The service was very good and very friendly. The pad Thai noodles were kind of tough so you couldn’t easily bite the ones hanging out of your mouth. Made eating them a little awkward. And the sauce was different than I’ve had before. Again just not to my liking. The shrimp in the pad Thai were cooked perfectly. NOTE: this pad Thai was much much better left over the next day. I’m pretty sure it was undercooked and that was the reason it seemed substandard. But you know what they say. You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. The curry dish we got with eggplant and all the vegetables was good, but the rice was so sticky that it was just in a clump. Learned a lesson not to order Chinese food in a Thai restaurant. Duh. The crab Rangoon had an overly sweet filling and was not crispy, even though it was fried. I wouldn’t recommend.

Ate at Thai Country Cafe with a group of over 30 people. They happily accommodated our large group and did it with a smile the entire time. Our servers were such a great help getting our tables organized so we could sit together and made sure that our food came out in a timely fashion. The food was Excellent! Large portions with lots of fresh veggies. Having visited Thailand recently, I can definitely say they maintain the Authentic Thai flavors and have a great variety of dishes to offer on the menu. If we are ever back in St. Louis we will definitely be eating at Thai Country Cafe again.

Google
I stopped here by myself for dinner while on a business trip. It got decent reviews so I figured I’d give it a try. I was quickly seated and given a pretty extensive menu with lots of options. I decided to try the curry chicken and the chicken fried rice. Both were delicious and the portions were plenty for 2-3 people to enjoy. The place isn’t as anything fancy but was clean and the service was good. Definitely would eat here again.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to have a quick dinner at before a show and came upon this lovely establishment. Service was quick and staff were very friendly. I ordered a pad see eew sen mee which was stir fried vermicelli noodes with some Chinese broccoli, bean sprout and egg and added beef for protein choice. Since it was my first visit at the restaurant, I didn't want to overestimate their spice level so I ordered a level 2. I would have been fine at 3. It wasn't bad. The portion was huge. I couldn't finish mine and sadly, since we had a show to go to, I couldn't take the leftover with me either. But my food was really good and I wish I would have been able to take the leftovers home with me for another meal. I will definitely keep this place in mind when I am in the loop. The service was quick, portions were generous for the price, and my food was good and satisfying. What more could you ask for?

Yelp
It was fine. The place was dead. I guess they do a good carry out business. If you come here you better be hungry. The servings are huge!! I got a curry and it was enough for 4 servings. It was so hot (temperature) that I had to wait a long while before I could eat it. Flavor was good but the chicken was bone dry. The server was very nice. The interior is dated. I'm not complaining. I know running a restaurant isn't easy. They do not have alcohol and I was bummed as I am a heavy drinker (just kidding!). I really wanted a Thai beer and I was seriously disappointed. The Thai iced tea was very good. Strong and a nice sweetness from condensed milk. The fried rice was good as was the chicken and broccoli. If you're hungry, head here!!

Yelp
The service was completely garbage ruin everything for me I order the chicken pad Thai and had to sit there for almost 45 mins bc they had to run to the store to buy more chicken. I was never informed that they didn't have anymore chicken left or asked if I wanted to try something else. The lady who served us hardly checked up on us at all and it destroyed the whole experience. I was also with someone else but they had gotten their food and already finish everything while I still had no information or any updates on my dish

Kelly Reed R.

Yelp
The waitress was extremely persistent about us ordering. We had been seated no more than two minutes. We found it rude since others had come in immediately after us and weren't harassed as we were. The food was horrible. It came out too fast to be properly prepared. It tasted thrown together. Both of our entrees were just plain awful! They poured sauce over the top of my noodles which in fact weren't the noodles that were supposed to come with the entree. Smoking made it difficult to enjoy the taste and smell of the food in such a small restaurant. But then there really wasn't a thorough taste to the food. I played with the food and ate a a few pieces of green and red peppers that was donned "vegetables." When I think about vegetables I think about a plethora of vegetables, not the least expensive to put on food. This entree was premade and then sauce poured over it. No thought or effort was put into making this dish, nor the other dish. The crab Rangoon was made with too much sugar and not hot. Coming into the loop from Ballwin was a mistake!!!! I'll choose more carefully next time.

Yelp
We were looking to try something different in the Delmar loop and ended up at Thai Country Cafe. The interior is unique. Their menu is extensive. The menus have pictures of some of the dishes which were helpful. We started with the crab rangoon. They were good but a little too sweet. They have several different fried rice options. We went with the Khao pad nam prik pao and Khao pad hoisin sauce. Both were delicious. The portions are large. If you're looking for authentic Thai food check it out.

Yelp
my boyfriend and i came in with a welcome by the waitress at the bar. we were the only customers in the building and it took a while for her to come to our table to take our order. we ordered the pad thai chicken, pad sen mee, dumpling soup, and dumplings. we received everything except the pad thai chicken. we got checked up on ONLY ONCE within our visit and wasn't told that there was no more chicken for the pad thai. we just assumed that his dish was taking a bit long. we waited for his dish for 40 mins with no notice whatsoever. my boyfriend was very annoyed and went to the waitress to ask about the dish. apparently, one of the employees went to go buy chicken while we were waiting there the whole time. NEVER INFORMED US! everything was fine up until that point. my boyfriend didn't receive his pad thai and i was already done eating. we are very disappointed in the service. instead of leaving us hanging like that, at least tell us you guys didn't have any chicken or if we wanted anything else. we will not be coming back, please do better.

Yelp
Long-standing Thai spot in the Loop. Started with the pad see ew, which was a bit disappointing. Major takeout vibes and it had a bitter, almost burnt taste to it. The khao soi, which had a very creamy and flavorful broth, as well as the mango sticky rice are definitely the things to get. Not screaming about the food but still enjoyed it here. Favorite dishes: Khao soi (Chang Mai noodles), mango sticky rice
google avatar

Cleo G.

Yelp
Food is okay in my opinion. We got takeout. I had the Khao Lard Kee Mao, which is basically just stir fried peppers, onions, basil, and chicken in a spicy sauce with rice. It was pretty good but I do wish there was slightly more depth of flavor, as a lot if it was simply spice. Still decent, though. Although I never choose to get Pad Thai, I tried my boyfriend's, and it was also just okay. In a pinch, it does the trick, but I wouldn't go again.
google avatar

Terrilyn L.

Yelp
Ok so this was take out!!! I needed Tom Kha soup!!! And the Lad Nar with seafood!!! Idk what in house portions are but the portion size was definitely shareable! And delicious! No pics. It was take out!!
google avatar

Yelp
Very good Thai food, but honestly don't recommend take out. The drunken noodles had too many veggies and not enough noodles. The basil fried rice was very good as well! Overall still highly recommend but mainly for dine in!
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered my usual order of Pad Peanut Sen Chen with Tofu and Crab Rangoons last night and I think I'm done ordering takeout from Thai Country. Let me be clear, this is a review SPECIFICALLY for takeout. Every time we eat in, this place is a solid 3.5 or 4 stars with an emphasis on how great the food is! Every time I've ordered out my Pad Peanut it comes put together with what seems like maybe a tablespoon of the sauce. It just tastes like charred tofu and noodles without it. The Crab Rangoon always comes out perfectly. I appreciated that it was still warm when I picked it up and that the pick up process was quick and easy.

Yelp
Great food, lots of options of Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese food etc. Absolutely loved the duck noodles and soup! One of the best dishes that I've ever had, with mellow soup that was very flavorful and not too salty. The servers were also very attentive the first and second time I went, always there in case we needed anything. Only slight issue I had was the ambiance, when you enter there is a strange smell in the air and there's this church tower clock that always chimes periodically. Happened both times I was there. Additionally, some of the pad see ew's stir fried noodles were clumped together like clumps of dough. Overall great food, perfect for a lunch hangout with a friend! Came here for the first time and immediately came back in 2 days.

Yelp
One of my go-to restaurants with consistently good Thai food. The portions are generous and service is fast (we're usually seated right away). Many of the dishes run on the sweet side, but super flavorful. The menu also has photos of every single food item, which I REALLY appreciate. Food items range from $10-$15. I love the pad see ew, they make the thickest flat noodles I've ever had! Thai tea was a bit too sweet for my taste, but if you ask for it less sweet they can dilute it down. Atmosphere is great, interior is decorated in a way that feels like I'm in a cabin. Street parking can be challenging but several large parking lots close by.

Yelp
The food quality was bad. Everything was overcooked. The place was clean and the servers were nice. The food was so bad we left it on the table. The Crab Rangoon were cooked so hard they were empty on the inside and the spring rolls were also over cooked with a funky taste left in the mouth. I would not try again. Under any circumstances.

Yelp
The service is excellent, the staff are super friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is pretty drab and the walls are crowded with art and trinkets that have no apparent theme. I have eaten excellent Asian cuisine, so I may be biased because this food was subpar. I had the chicken with Thai peanut sauce and I didn't want to finish it. The sauce was pretty good, but the chicken appeared to have been boiled and it looked anemic. It's obvious they use the same generic, unsalted protein on all the dishes and just cover it in sauce. My boyfriend got a soup that was better, but still lacking a lot of flavor. If you are used to quality Asian food, I wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
Excellent every single time! I ordered the Penang and green curry dishes both with chicken, shrimp spring rolls and the veggie rolls. Service was great as well. Have been eating here for 15yrs and they never disappoint.
google avatar

Anna V.

Yelp
The food was amazing. I was craving pad thai and this definitely was a good pick! The restaurant was nice as I remember we went during dinner time so it was kind of busy but the service was good. It was kind of loud but not too bad till it got busy. Definitely will be going back!

Yelp
COCKROACHES. Thai country cafe 2 6482 Delmar. Bugs seen in men's restroom and back part where food is stored

Yelp
Honestly I would like to give a 3.5 Have been here couple times, the food is good, probably not the most authentic. But I am not from Thailand so it wouldn't be fair for me to criticize on that. Generally the portions are huge and they are generous on the meat. This time we ordered a Tom Yum Noodle Soup with Chicken and the Duck Curry as well as the fried spring rolls. Since the weather was rainy and cold, a hot Tom Yum soup really just make everything better! I like the flavor, good amount of sour and spicy and sweet. The noodle was a little on the soft side, I would prefer it to be more chewy. The Duck curry came in huge portion as well. Almost 1/3 to half duck in that curry!!! The flavor was slightly on the sweet side but not bad. The fried spring roll were good with crispy thin crust! The reason I would like to only give it 3.5 star is because the wait for the food was a bit long.

Yelp
I first went to this place over 30 years ago. It was a high-quality clean restaurant, then. Now, It is no longer. I have been ordering chicken satey for 40 years. I know how it should be presented with the chicken moist and not dried. Today's experience was far from that. When I mentioned to the waitress that the chicken satay which was dried out was overdone she retorted that was how it was prepared. She was incorrect. Suffice to say, I simply had it removed from my bill. The spring rolls were up to standard, but battling the fleas that seemed to appear out of nowhere, intent on enjoying my dish as I tried to eat it, was more than unpleasant. Also, the place now looks rundown and dirty. I will not be back.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and a total bang for your buck. It is super cute and they have a great selection of food. The Thai iced coffeee is my favorite. Staff are always great.
google avatar

Leo B.

Yelp
All the food on the menu is good and the ingredients taste fresh. My favorite order is the chicken pho and iced thai coffee, they make the coffee really well here. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the seating area is comfortable and well air-conditioned.

Chris C.

Yelp
Food was fine. Service was absolutely terrible. Server stopped paying attention to us when it became obvious to both her and us that our order was missed. Had to flag down other servers. Our order had been given to another table. You would think that would trigger a rush to get our order at the front of the queue and on the line. 15 minutes later and still nothing. I fell just short of going into kitchen and cooking the order myself and actually did go to the kitchen to finally get some action. Waited an hour to be finally be served our meals. Had to rush to eat. 5 stars for keeping my water glass full. Didn't even offer to comp the meal. Won't be going back.
google avatar

Vivienne C.

Yelp
Came for a weekend lunch and there wasn't many people here. They open at 11:30, which is comparably late for lunch but that's okay because there are a lot of fun things to do on the Loop in the meantime while you wait for the store to open. I ordered Pad See Ew Sen Mee and thought it was okay. The portion sizes are pretty large and definitely would be enough for 2 people. I thought the noodles had a little bit too much soy sauce flavor and the broccoli also became overly salty. I did appreciate the lightness of the tofu to counterbalance all the flavors. Overall, okay experience.
google avatar

Mindy D.

Yelp
As soon as we entered , the floor was sticky and the place felt warm and humid. Our server was so friendly and kind. The spring rolls were crispy and tasty. Our mains all tasted good, but my curry was not as thick as I'm used to. It was more of a runny sauce like water. The bathrooms did not look cleans and overall the place felt like it needed a good scrub. We wouldn't go back. There's tastier better quality Thai in STL.
google avatar

Yupeng L.

Yelp
This has been my go to for Thai food for years. They're authentic, consistent, the price is reasonable, and the service is fast. Also, the portion sizes of the entrees are actually huge - always a thumbs up in my book. Their rice and noodle dishes are delicious, although for several options beef is an extra $2-4 more. You can't go wrong with one of their noodle soups. Definitely try them if you enjoy Thai food!
google avatar

Isra T.

Yelp
This is an OK thai restaurant. I wouldn't recommend it and I wouldn't go back. I used to enjoy their food, until one day I ordered takeout and found a bug in my food.. and then I went back for a friends birthday and the food gave a couple of us food poisoning that night. I am not a fan. Ambiance and service are fine but not worth the mid food in my honest opinion.
google avatar

Arada H.

Yelp
Went for late lunch (around 2pm) on a Saturday; dining room was mostly empty, esp. after a large family left soon after we sat down. Son ordered his usual Chicken Satay appetizer and Pad See Ew Sen Sod. Server came back later to say they're OUT of satay -- what? A Thai restaurant ran out of satay by 2 pm on Saturday? Odd. His noodle dish was good, though they didn't separate the noodles while cooking so he got large layers of noodles stuck in a tower. I ordered Pad Suki Yaki just out of curiosity -- it's not a traditional Thai glass noodle dish. It was ok, on the salty side, but not something I'll order again. Husband & his parents shared Tom Yum soup, Eggplant with fish, and Mixed vegetables (latter 3 are rice plates). Overall portions are noticeably smaller than the last time we came. Tasted ok, but not as good a value for the price anymore. PLUS, for our party of 4 adults 1 teenager they auto added Gratuity. FYI!
google avatar

. ..

Yelp
While the food was edible, the experience was quite hectic. First, we felt a bit rushed to order when we were still trying to figure out their chaotic menu which had a lot of items but was not organized very well. I read other people's reviews and ordered the pad Thai, which is usually a safe choice. It just wasn't very good here. We had their Thai tea boba and didn't bother finishing since the balls were hard as rocks. We ordered a few other items but they weren't memorable either. The portions were huge so we took them to go but have no plans on reheating or finishing them. Oh well.

Eduvijen G.

Yelp
They have roaches being served in the soups . The place is super dirty I can't believe it's still in service the food isn't even hot it's just warm no wonder they have bugs

Megan B.

Yelp
The food here was great, we were served quickly and had great staff. We got the 36 and 37. The interior is definitely unique, but I think it adds to the experience!
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
Love this place and the family who owns it. The food is always delicious. They always include lots of veggies in their entrees, too, which I really appreciate. That's a quality that can be hard to find sometimes! The prices are super fair, the portions are great. We always have a huge meal and STILL have leftovers. We always order: the thai fried rice-- extra spicy ($10) green curry with rice -- mild ($11) pad see ew sen sod -- my fave ($12) Every single time we have ordered, the food has been CONSISTENTLY delicious, hot, fresh, and accurate. We've had zero issues, ever, and the staff is always friendly. We have ordered takeout from Thai Country maybe 10x in one year already..... which is a testament to the food, considering that we are a family who enjoys branching out and trying new spots instead of repeating spots. It's just too easy to know that we will be able to get a large, affordable, delicious meal that will be made right every single time.
google avatar

Maddy C.

Yelp
As a Thai food fan I was so beyond excited to try out this restaurant and I was beyond impressed! The service was good, the fried veggie spring rolls were GREAT, and the pricing was reasonable compared to other Thai Food restaurants. I'd absolutely recommend- hopefully next time they'll have boba!
google avatar

Chris O.

Yelp
Got takeout from Thai Country Cafe for the first time a few weeks ago. Definitely good value for the portions but somewhat lacking in authenticity. We got the chicken pad see ew - large portions for a decent price but the noodles that were used were significantly thicker and softer than normal (thinner on the noodle and a chewier texture) and the dish was too salty.
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
I came here for a quick dinner with a friend on the weekday and got the Pad Thai with chicken. The Pad Thai itself was alright. I felt like it was a bit too salty for my taste and compared to other versions of this dish I've had elsewhere. The chicken was plentiful and tender. I would not mind ordering this again but I'll probably try something else next time. Service was quick and the waitress was great about refilling our water and making sure we were doing alright. Overall, a solid option if you are in the Loop and craving some Thai.
google avatar

Philip M.

Yelp
Love the accommodations to ask us about our food. The knowledge shared without further questioning when already curious. Would love the beer menu to be back. Beer is a must with thai food. Just my opinion! Love the atmosphere. Love the dessert!!!! Thai food has sky rocket to be my favorite as it spices up my life!!

Rohan A.

Yelp
I ordered the chicken pad kee mao. It tasted as if it was kept for 2 days in the fridge before being warmed up again. One of the worst Thai places I've visited in Saint Louis. I will never visit again.
google avatar

Katherine T.

Yelp
Recently went here with my fiancé and let me tell you, it is AMAZING. We were craving Thai food and he had mentioned this place so we decided to try it out. When you first walk in, you get to see the decor right away. The rich history of the culture is hung all over the restaurant which makes for a very unique vibe. We ordered appetizers that came out pretty quickly and they were really fresh. We got the crispy potstickers and it came with this sweet and sour sauce that just tied it together. My fiancé ended up getting a pad Thai dish and I got the chang mai curry noodle. The portions were big which we loved and the flavor of everything tasted so authentic. I can't even describe how good everything was. And to tie it all together, our server was the SWEETEST girl ever. She was so polite, nice, and attentive. We had such a good experience I think this place is about to be our favorite Thai spot !
google avatar

Tikku G.

Yelp
This has been one of my go-to Thai places in St. Louis for several years. I've noticed a recent increase in price (even before COVID) but still come here frequently. I usually get sriracha fried rice with shrimp and red curry. Nothing out of this world but a solid meal when you need quick take-out. The service is fast and workers are friendly, always a 10/10 experience.
google avatar

Natalie L.

Yelp
A super solid Thai place. Service is a little slow, but the food is consistent, flavorful, and fresh.
google avatar

Wasifuddin M.

Yelp
The best Thai food place in St. Louis (in my opinion). I ALWAYS get their Pad See Ew with Chicken or Beef, sometimes Shrimp. That's my personal favorite. Prices are very reasonable. They've been in St. Louis for a LONG time. The ambience is nice and homely and they have plenty of seating
google avatar

Julia L.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to get pad thai! I think their pad thai is seasoned really well with just the right amount of flavor. This is the only pad thai so far that I've gotten more than once at a restaurant. It's not on the menu, but I usually get duck in my pad thai for $4 extra. The pad thai and the duck go really well together - I would highly recommend it if you're a fan of duck. I also like to get their crab rangoon. It's pretty standard crab rangoon, but hits the spot when you have that craving. There's a small parking lot in the back that has free parking, but that area is usually filled during busy hours. But there's neighborhood and metered parking all around the loop area. The service here is decent - very nice but can be a little slow sometimes. They also have a wide variety of items on their menu.
google avatar

Jamie B.

Yelp
First time here with a group of 5 at lunch time. We were sat immediately as it wasn't busy. Quickly noticed it was very hot inside and others in the group were using the menu to fan themselves. We ordered and waited 10-15 minutes and each dish was brought out individually with 2/5 people having their food and waiting for the others. I enjoyed my food as did the others, portions were huge and plenty for leftovers. I would probably come back again and know that it's not quick service.
google avatar

Hayley W.

Yelp
I've been coming here for 8 years and the food is always sooo amazing everyone and the staff here is super nice! We always get the fried spring rolls and the 41a not too spicy! If you don't let them know that you don't want it spicy it will be super spicy!
google avatar

Polly M.

Yelp
The food is served fresh, hot, & perfectly prepared. The portions are huge -- I have enough for tomorrow. The wait staff is friendly & attentive. This is my favorite Thai restaurant -- do not wait go now to eat.

Yelp
TL:DR - Massaman curry was delicious and huge portions. Easily two meals. Super creamy crab rangoon. Avg pad thai. Didn't have issues that others had with cooking times. Will def be back. Man... I do NOT get the hate for this place. This place was DELICIOUS. I got the Massaman curry, some crab rangoon, and had some of my fiance's pad thai. I've never had Massaman curry before, so I can't compare it to anything, but I loved it. Great hearty umammi flavor with tender chicken. And man they give you a lot! Easily two meals for me. The crab rangoon was also delicious, good ratio of cream cheese to wrapper, and I don't know how, but it seemed creamier than other crab rangoon, so A++. Lastly I had some of my fiancee's pork pad thai. The pork was surprisingly tender, but the pad thai itself was just ok. The noodles were stretchy and springy, which I like, but flavor wise it was a bit lacking. A lot of other people have mentioned the pace at which the food comes out. I did come with a group of 18, and one or two people didn't get their food until everyone else was pretty much done. But otherwise it came out rather quickly. Hard for me to judge here. All in all, one of my (but not the best) thai places in STL.

Sophia Y.

Yelp
This is the best Thai place I have EVER been to (and I have been to many). The service is great! Quick and kind. The flavors are perfect. The food is made so well. Truly so delicious. My favorite place in STL, could not recommend it enough.

Yelp
The most authentic Thai food I have eaten in St. Louis. I got a tip from a Thailander I work with and she is right. I've always eaten at the one popular place in Grand Blvd, but realized it's too expensive and the servings are quite small. Not Thai Country Cafe, they are generous and dishes are sticks to original taste, not Americanized if that is appropriate. This place is the best way other than flying to Thailand. Period.
