The Best Brunch Spots in New York City

"Thai Diner is always a good candidate for a brunch option that’s not your run-of-the-mill fare. The breakfast sandwich — egg, cheese, sausage, and Thai basil wrapped in a roti — is one of the best in town, and the Thai tea babka french toast comes with sides of condensed milk for dunking. Make a reservation in advance." - Eater Staff

Google
Tasty food- I like how they will adjust spice (hotter/milder) upon request. Not a very extensive menu but a decent selection. I would go back, and try something different. Very friendly staff and reasonable pricing/portions.

My favorite place in Lawrence. The staffs are always awesome and friendly. We always have great experience here. Highly recommend 🌟

Google
I got the pad Thai and the vegetable stir fry with tofu. Overall the food was pretty good. Not anything spectacular, but what I’d expect when getting Thai food. My main gripes were the prices and portion sizes. I got the house special pad Thai, which was around $18. Very pricey, but the portion was decent. The vegetable stir fry, however, was tiny for costing $14. Worth going to if you want good Thai food, but expect to pay a lot for what you get.

Google
Thai Diner has been around a while. It’s a popular place for students and locals too. While it’s not like authentic Thai food in Thailand, it’s the second best thing we have in Lawrence. Serving sizes are good and you can split entrees with your bestie or significant other. We always get the fresh spring rolls and Pad Thai

I ordered from Florida to have food delivered to a family in Lawrence. The family lost a family member and were all together cleaning out the home. The family was in the mood for Thai food, so I found Thai Diner online. They were well reviewed (thanks to all the other diners) AND they offered delivery. It was absolutely simple and easy to order online and have food delivered. We ordered all the things - dumplings, fresh rolls, curry, phad thai, and fried rice. I asked the restaurant to label all the food. Not only was the food amazing, all of the dishes were labeled, and the restaurant sent a message of condolence of their own. I cannot be happier with the amazing service they provided. I wish I was closer to Lawrence, because if I was, I would visit this restaurant often.

Google
Was a decent Thai place, now even better. Lots of new things on the menu, the food presentation is way better than before, and the portion is bigger, too. Photo below were taken within the last two months. For those ordering delivery: consider dine-in or takeout instead for cheaper menu price. Delivery platforms take a cut from the sales.

Google
This used to be my favorite Thai place in Lawrence but they raised their prices and in my recent experience, shrunk the portions along with quality. I wasn’t impressed when I recently visited. We got a Mild/as-is drunken noodles but it was almost too spicy for us to eat, and had tons of chili flakes. We are used to some amount of spice but we specifically got mild so we could share with our kid. They also said our order wouldn’t be ready for 30 minutes, but when we picked it up it looked like the order had been done for a long time. The dishes weren’t very warm, and the crab rangoons were soggy :( It used to be so good, and I still think they have the best Panang curry of anywhere in Lawrence. Hopefully next time I visit I can update this review to 5 stars.

Yelp
The restaurant is modest and Un appointed but where the aesthetics and design lack the food and service make up for it. The food was fast, piping hot (on a chilly, rainy day) and quite tasty! Wait staff was friendly and the restaurant was good. Only 3 tables of patrons but a steady stream of take out was in and out the 45-1hour we were there.

Yelp
This is my second review of Thai Diner. My first review was shortly after it had first opened. While we were happy with the food, we were disappointed by the uncomfortable seating, consisting of wooden chairs without cushions. This has completely changed! Now there are cushions on all of the chairs and are very comfortable. The menu they provide in the restaurant has very small print. You might prefer to choose what to order from their online menu before you arrive. They still have a BYOB policy, that we liked a lot. We brought our own bottle of wine. They provided wine glasses with no corkage charge. We ordered many of the same things we got the first time, but this time I also got the Cashew Salmon. We were there on a Friday, and were told the salmon and the basa fish came in on Wednesday. We were surprised by the thick cut of salmon, larger than usually provided at restaurants. Also the medium spice level was a good choice. I liked the salmon, but it was not a match for the Tom Yum Soup with tofu added. It was wonderful. I can't even imagine returning to the Thai Diner without getting the Tom Yum Soup. It is a must! We liked the fact that they have brown rice as a substitute for the white rice, if you prefer. We have not yet tried their Curry Bowls, which come with jasmine rice.

Yelp
tried it again and salty salty salty not going back twice is too much. Phad Thai just about killed us with salt writing the owner. We lived on the west coast and have tried hundreds of Thai places , thats our goto spot when traveling throughout the USA PR and Bermuda. This place has to have been the most salty we have ever had. Not sure what i going on with the reviews from other people. Maybe get out and try other places and compare.

Yelp
We got the pleasure of having Maddie and Ann serving us today. Classical music played while the wonderful thai herb aromas filled the restaurant. The outside of the restaurant does not justice to the inside. Thai tea, Crab Rangoon, pad sa eww and, crab fried rice were absolutely amazing! I am hooked. We definitely will be coming back. Great food, beautiful service... if you're thinking about it, DO IT!!!

Yelp
1st time here. Jim and I are on a road trip and went 21 miles out of way to try this place based on reviews. Worth the extra drive. We had egg rolls and dumplings for appetizers. They were both quite tasty and sauce with the dumplings...yummy! For dinner we shared the Pad Thai Gang Dang. That's a mouthful to say. When our friendly server asked how spicy she could tell I was waffling between mild and medium. I usually say medium but I've had a couple of experiences where that was too spicy. Our server suggested mild+. It was perfect amount of spicy. Meal was delicious and I wish we could have taken the leftovers, but road trip made that impossible. Highly recommend this Thai restaurant.

Yelp
I was in town and was hungry for Thai food. I got the Yellow curry seafood stir-fry. It was delicious. Perfect amounts of salty, spicy, and savory. Highly recommend this dish. It was made well and authentically IMO from a Thai person myself.

Yelp
Sometimes I dine in, and sometimes I bring a carry-out order home. Regardless of where I eat my Thai Diner treats, I'm always incredibly satisfied! Service is courteous, management is forthright and accommodating, and the food is clearly made by cooks with a deep respect for flavor and the way an eater experiences food! There's a lot of heart in this tiny, local treasure! I encourage everyone to put Thai Diner in their Lawrence dining rotation, and help me keep this worthy establishment alive!!
google avatar

Marissa S.

Yelp
Thai Diner is such a cozy and consistent res. Best drunken noodles I've had in a long time - added bean sprouts & got mild+ spice level. Even the mild has a bit of a kick!

Debbie M.

Yelp
It was good, not the best masamam curry I've had but I'd eat there again. The egg fried rice just had a lump of scrambled egg on top. The egg rolls were good

Yelp
Stopping at Lawrence to spend the night after the game and Chris and I are both starving. Lol. He asked me where/what I want for dinner. Of course. I have to open Yelp for help! Browsing through, I found several restaurants that we haven't tried, so I asked if he was down for Thai food. So off to Thai Diner we went. The place was bright and very clean. For starter, we shared a Green Papaya Salad with Beef which was spicy but it was so good I didn't want to put my chopsticks down! For the entrée, we had Pad Thai Gang Dang which was equally delicious with huge shrimps and Tom Yum Soup which was perfect for a cold winter night! Needless to say, we shall return!

Yelp
I really like this Thai restaurant, probably the best Thai restaurant in Lawrence area. I love the pad Thai Gang Dang. It's different from the pad Thai at other Thai restaurants. The secret ingredient is they add peanut sauce to the pad Thai which gives it a more rich and creamy taste. I never had anything like it before and for me this is something unique and special about this place. For me to write this review 10 months later and still remember what I had truly says something. I would highly recommend trying the pad Thai Gang Dang.
google avatar

Elise M.

Yelp
Way overpriced for portions and quality. I orders the peanut chicken that's supposed to have peanut sauce all over it. It didn't seem that it did. The other dish was the fire something and it looked like a bunch of broth with veggies. Not a lot of meat and rhe to go container was 1/2 full. For the quality and the price, I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
Visited this place while on a business trip. It was walking distance from my hotel. I stumbled across this place while driving back from Bud Walton Arena. I first walked in and it was full. I was then instructed to find a seat in the back room. As a man of color, I couldn't believe what I had just heard! lol. But she was literally telling me there's more seating in the back room. I was then seated and given water and a menu. The menu is quite expansive with a variety of dishes. I ordered Pad See Ew. It was good, but a bit too sweet and lack of spice for my liking. They appeared to only have one server at the time and she was getting all her steps in. Overall, not a bad place to eat and a good experience.

Yelp
First time eating at Thai Diner and we had a great meal. Wait staff was friendly and prompt and when we arrived, an hour before close, the place was packed. We will return!

Yelp
Walked in this evening to pick up my food. As I waited, this waitress came in and out of the kitchen a few times but I refrained from bothering her because she seemed pretty busy. She ignored me the whole time but I honestly didn't make a deal out of it. Then, this white couple walks in to pick up and she's all of a sudden very jovial to them, asking how she could help etc.. She checks their order and reassures them that it will be ready soon. And just as if I was invisible she hurries back into the kitchen, and dismisses me when I try to make eye contact to talk to her. Less than a couple of minutes later, she addresses the white couple again and tell them their food will be ready soon. I was stunned. Luckily another employee came out of the kitchen and asked for my name: my food was sitting there the whole time!!! I hate to make things about race but as an African/Black man, the situation couldn't be more obvious. I was a regular customer (food is ok), but I will not set my feet into this place again.
google avatar

Raeley G.

Yelp
I was surprised to see I haven't reviewed this place yet as this is my #1 spot for takeout in Lawrence! It doesn't look like much from the outside (or the inside) but you will not go wrong with the food here! My absolute favorites are the green curry, pad see ew, and pad Thai with shrimp and chicken. Important: don't be overly ambitious when they ask you how spicy you want it -- the medium heat is SPICY. Be prepared to spend about $15-20 a person but it's totally worth it, because I can always get 2 meals out of one entree order.
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
The Rangoon is amazing. I always get the Gapow or the Pad Thai, both are fantastic. Can't wait to eat here again!
google avatar

Brea F.

Yelp
Ridiculously overpriced and the portions are almost offensive. A $5 thai tea should not be served in the same size cup as a free water (both comparable to a mcdonalds small). The $16 chicken and broccoli (pictured) was barely enough for my toddler. The food is okay flavor-wise but its pretty much a rip-off for what you're getting. Especially with things getting tight for everyone financially I would definitely look to splurge elsewhere... anywhere else. We won't be spending anymore of our money here ‍
google avatar

Samuel H.

Yelp
Great food! Never a disappointment and the spice levels are nice. Hot is actually hot and thai hot is insanely spicy. Really recommend the drunken noodles and basil stir fry!

Yelp
This is a marvelous Thai restaurant - setting standards for all other restaurants of this variety. Staff was very courteous and knowledgeable about the menu. Highly recommend them if your hungry for Thai food Donita Lawrence Ks

Yelp
Yaaaas! Yummy! Eat at Thai Diner! Busy spot for a good reason. It's BYOB (with no cork fee) so don't forget to bring your bottle of wine or cold beers. Our first visit we were unaware of BYOB so we were forced to enjoy the food solo and I'm so glad we did. Ordered everything off the specials board. 6 dumpling appetizer (pork, shrimp & veg). They were all so good but that night the shrimp won the comp. We shared the Peanut Sauce Pad Thai Chicken (its a must to get a feel for their spices) with the Shrimp green curry. Yum! Lots of soup bowls were coming out of the kitchen so that's on my bookmarked list. Can't wait to come back with my single serving sake bottle for another date night!
google avatar

Suzy L.

Yelp
The curry tastes great! And the pork rib is also delicious. Overall it is worth paying for it.

Yelp
We were spending a few days in Lawrence and stopped in on a Sunday evening there was a good crowd but were seated and had drinks quickly. Our waitress was very nice and Service was great

Anna K.

Yelp
This is a really good Thai food restaurant. They are very prompt in their service and they bring ne out excellent food every time. This being in a college town they keep their prices in check. Ambiance is ok. Nothing to sing about. But I'd go there just because the food is excellent and the service is very prompt.

Will W.

Yelp
Awesome food. Just all you want from a Thai restaurant. The variety of Stir Fry is legit.
google avatar

Richard F.

Yelp
The place is not well-kept on the outside; I hesitated to enter with the dirty windows and broken sign. Inside was clean, and the service was good. I ordered the calamari appetizer and chicken Penang. Both were excellent. The calamari had a delicate coating and was well-fried. The curry was tasty, though not as hot as advertised.

Marie S.

Yelp
Thai Diner's food was so over-spiced and so hot that my granddaughter threw up, and I could not eat my medium dish, even after mixing in extra noodles and rice. We threw BOTH DISHES in the garbage after paying $38 for two dinners. I asked about the amount of spice and couldn't get a clear answer; it was supposed to be a medium spicy chicken Pad Thai and a spicy vegetable Pad Thai. I've eaten spicy Thai food for years and so has my granddaughter. She makes a spicy vegan Pad Thai at home that the rest of us cannot eat because it is too hot for us. Disappointing.
google avatar

Diane H.

Yelp
This place is a small, but the flavor is BIG. I honestly couldn't believe my eyes when I saw BYOB on the door, walked in and asked my waitress, "is it true?" She said yes then suggested I got get a beverage, and she would reserve my table until I got back. My friend and I literally left grabbed the new pineapple flavored Redd's from Myers liquor down the street, and came back. First we ordered crab rangoons to start, and they were light, crisp, and I wish it came with the sweet & sour sauce instead of the same butter sauce that was on the table. I made a rookie mistake and ordered my noodles hot, when I should've got medium. Good thing my friend ordered the special "Gang Dang" mild so we halved each of our plates, switched and the spice was perfect. The service was kind and patient, especially for first timers. The only suggestion or con to my visit is there wasn't any air circulation. No fan, no windows to open, nothing. As small as this restaurant is it stays packed due the quality of the food, but the only downfall to visit was there wasn't any air circulation. A fan or maybe letting the breeze through the front doors would be an easy fix.
google avatar

Li-Shin L.

Yelp
Love this place! The staff is always so nice and portions are always plenty! My go to is always the panang curry and gaprow with beef! The dishes also taste authentic and freshly made!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is fantastic. Thoughtful, attentive service and amazing Thai food. I ordered the Pad See Ew, Spring Rolls, and Jasmine Tea...all of which were fantastic. This is my favorite Thai place in Lawrence.

Karla G.

Yelp
I have been by this place hundreds of times. I have searched for a place with great Thai food. Finally I decided to give it a try and WOW how have I been missing out on yummy Thai food so long. This place has great food. My only caution is that the seasoning levels are definitely on the Spicy side. I usually like spicy. My sister in law and I both ordered medium spice. I would actually say this was much spicier than medium. Even the green papaya salad was "lip on fire" spicy. Next time I will request mild, but there will be a next time very soon!
google avatar

Yelp
On this, our second visit, the food was just as good and the prices fair, but the service left something to be desired. We were not greeted when we arrived, only told to find our own table. It took quite a while for our server to welcome us and bring our water even though the place was virtually empty on a Sunday night with two servers working. We ordered the Mini Steamed Buns ($5.95) with sweet pork sausage and dried shredded pork on wheat flour buns and the Crispy Spring Rolls ($4.25 - Regular/chicken). The server asked me if we wanted the chicken spring rolls even though I ordered the "regular" variety which, according to the menu, come with chicken. I said. "yes, of course". After taking our order, our server indicated that "everything" would be out shortly, but if you know me, you know I detest entrees arriving before the appetisers have been finished. I asked her to please hold the entrees until we had finished our starters, to which she readily agreed. The steamed buns (3) were OK even though the steamed whole wheat buns were not even baked. They had an odd look and texture (like eating raw bread dough) and were too big for the tiny dipping cups, but the flavor was decent. Not something we would order again. The spring rolls were good and a decent value at $4.25. The dipping sauces came in teeny weeny cups, too small even for the fried spring rolls which were not that big to begin with. As I mentioned, the entrees did not arrive until we had finished our appetisers, so once we were done with the starters we waited and waited and waited, and more than 10 minutes later our entrees were finally in front of us. My wife had the Yum-Tum Phad Thai ($9.95) which she raved about, a stir fry of rice noodles, egg, bean sprouts, cabbage and lemon grass with tofu. She cleaned her plate and would have likely licked it clean (I'm joking of course) if we were not in public, stating "that was absolutely delicious". I decided to try the Yellow Curry with beef ($9.25), a good size portion of potato pieces, yellow onion, sliced carrots and thinly sliced beef in a deliciously sweet, savory and spicy curry that dazzled the senses. It was an excellent curry. The decor is simple and basic, but tasteful, but I would recommend not sitting anywhere near the double front doors on a cold and/or windy night because our napkins flew and the chill was breathtaking every time someone entered or left, some several times, including one couple who did not know the difference between Thai and sushi, having missed their mark by several hundred feet and leaving as quickly as they had entered. Even though the service was suspect on this occasion, a plus was that I found out that you can "BYOB" (meaning wine I believe), because they advertise "no cork (corkage) fee". The minuses, they insist on "tipping your server appropriately" (better left unsaid as common sense tells you that if they provide the glasses and uncork the wine, then you should tip accordingly) and that you must leave any unconsumed alcohol behind (which is likely state law). CombatCritic Gives Thai Diner 8 Bombs Out Of 10 ... More Bombs Are Better!

Yelp
I am a bit mixed about this place. The food was good but not sure it was worth the cost. I realize all food is getting expensive today, but the food seemed a bit too expensive. The environment is very simple but was fine. The Pad Thai was great and loved it. The Red curry was also good. The egg rolls seemed very basic and not worth getting. We have been here a few times and while it is good, not sure we will be going back.

Kaylen D.

Yelp
I order takeout pretty regularly, usually ordering pad Thai or pad kee mao. Thai Diner was recommended was the best Thai in town. It is decent. The seasoning always tastes great, though the spice level is highly variable (sometimes a medium is pretty bland, sometimes it's a tear-jerker). The meat seems to be cooked separately, so it is generally dry and flavorless, which is the main letdown.
google avatar

T W.

Yelp
I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised! I would recommend this place. Order the crispy pork and calamari. Fried rice was good as well.
google avatar

Hedrick A.

Yelp
I had reasonably high hopes for this restaurant given all the stars it had received. Unfortunately what little I ordered; shrimp spring rolls, was disappointing. The excess of saran wrap used for the take out order suggested that the rolls had been prepped and stored long before my order was placed. My hypothesis was strengthened as I bit into heavily cilantro'd slightly turned lettuce. The flavor was not bright, fresh and healthy tasting. Rather it was bland. Given that I only tasted one dish perhaps I simply made the wrong choice. Still after a few bites I elected to toss the rest.

Kailee P.

Yelp
My friend took me here one time and I was satisfied and full! We went today again and ugh, compliments to the chef! The waitresses are super nice as well. Definitely come here if you love Thai food try the iced coffee or sweetened Thai tea!!

Trisha W.

Yelp
Thai Diner is always consistently delicious. I have a client that I lunch with once a month and we always choose to eat here. I will say he eats here once a week by himself. I think that says something. The food is delicious and everything tastes so fresh and flavorful. Each meal is served with a small egg roll. I recommend the steamed dumplings, pad thai noodles and the tom kha soup. Portions are large and full of flavor. Add this to your bookmarks and give it a try.

S W.

Yelp
Best Thai food in Lawrence hands down. Pad Kee Mao is my go to dish every time. I live in Thailand 6 months out of the year and know Thai food. This is the real deal.

Yelp
Love this place!!! I was sad when DonDon Japanese restaurant closed in this location but the fact that Thai Place moved in immediately erased any sorrow. We're so happy to finally have a good Thai place here in Lawrence. My husband grew up in Topeka so we had been going to Tuptim for years and we were thrilled when they opened a place here. Sometimes his family comes here from Topeka to to eat here and the owners remember them, very nice folks. Some of the names of dishes are different, but as far as I can tell the food is the same. My faves are the dark soy noodle, sweet chili noodle, and soft rice wraps. They make a good pad thai, and always have interesting specials on the board. Oh and GET THE SOUP of the day, it's always so good no matter what it is, I think they might have some kind of magical powers. This place is family run and the service and food are consistently awesome across the board.

Ben M.

Yelp
$12.50 for egg drop soup? "But it's 16oz." Bad service, worse management. By contrast, Thai Siam is excellent.
google avatar

Daisy M.

Yelp
Went to this establishment a couple of day ago. The atmosphere was very cold. While sitting with my party of three, the host was horrible with customer service and didn't want to address our questions about the menu. My mother is older and didn't have her glasses. I asked the host "Please explain the menu to a beginner". The host proceeded to have a horrible attitude, and didn't want to Service US. After that comment.m, we left. I will never STEP FOOT IN THIS PLACE.
google avatar

Fred W.

Yelp
Without question, and with much consensus with family and friends, the best Thai food in LFK.
google avatar

Davilyn Y.

Yelp
Checked out this diner on a whim looking for some good Thai food and it did not disappoint. Have gone back a couple times since to try their other dishes, the curries and fried rice are delicious!

Cimmy R.

Yelp
Heed not the nondescript strip mall location; this is the place to go in Lawrence for Thai. It's owned by the former owners of Topeka's Tup Tim, and all of my husband's coworkers in his Topeka office are super jealous that this deliciousness is now a little over half a mile from my house. There's not much going on, decor-wise, but the menu board and the people watching (it's a very small space) make up for it. The staff is attentive and always on their toes. It's as if they can read your mind when you need something. Unfortunately, they don't deliver, which is probably good for my bank account, and take out times can be over an hour on weekend nights, but that goes to show how popular they are and how they care about making food to order. I haven't ordered a dish that I wouldn't rave about (and my husband and I have probably eaten the entire menu at least once), even the curries (I don't like sweets, so I couldn't eat an entire bowl of coconut curry, but I always steal a bite of my husband's). The soup of the day is a $0.95 add-on and they're mouth-watering, generous portions. I've been trying to recreate their rice noodle and vegetable soup...I'll get there. Seriously. Thai Diner. You won't be disappointed.

Aya M.

Yelp
I am biased when it comes to Asian cuisine being Asian.. I DoorDashed the food and it did not disappoint! So good!
google avatar

Meri M.

Yelp
Very impressed on my first visit. My dining companions ordered yellow and green curry medium spicy. Both really enjoyed their meals. I had Basil Fried Rice with chicken. It had a lot of flavor. We also ordered steamed buns, which were interesting. They had some sort of dried pork for the filling. It had a nice salty flavor, but the texture was like an old wool sweater. Not sure I would get this particular steamed bun again.

Yelp
Typically, in my experience, when a restaurant closes for whatever reason and is followed by another restaurant it's a recipe for failure. Based on what we experienced and tasted, that will not occur here. Came not really knowing what to expect other than that awful sign out front and questionable name (diner? Not a diner, a very nice restaurant) sure made it look like a venture run by folks without much experience. I stand corrected because the experience was about everything done right. They actually have a lot of experience and it shows. Professional decor, much improved over previous tenant, expert wait staff, friendly, quick, attentive and knowledgeable. And the food was first rate and priced right. We started with steamed dumplings and then ordered the Gapow special and a red curry, Thai hot with shrimp. The dumplings were plentiful, 8 if I recall, and the entrees were done exceptionally well. I drive to Kansas City regularly to have this kind of red curry so I know what I really like and enjoy. This is done right. The heat was coming mainly from real peppers, not someone in the back dumping in dried pepper flakes (a peeve). Everything went really well and in my mind I was thinking, "wow, this is an easy four stars." But then dessert, a purple yam ice cream over top of a sweet coconut sticky rice that was warm so you get the cold, flavorful ice cream and the warm sweetness and savory from the rice and all of it topped with whipped cream. Not normally the dessert type but this was off the scale is a good way. The only thing left is what to order when we return. I expect Thai Diner to flourish! Count me a fan. There are a couple of other Thai eateries in town but this is clearly head and shoulders above the other two. If you come: credit cards accepted, no liquor license, plenty of lot parking shared with other businesses.
