I was super excited to come to Portland and try another restaurant that I had seen on social media. This was last night, which was Sunday on December 22nd around 6:15 PM. I love hot pot and this is the first of its kind that I ever heard of having Thai hot pot. I'm from Vegas and we have a lot of restaurants especially Japanese or Korean hot pots but not Thai. I'm of Thai descent as well so this really piqued my interest.
The disappointment came with the service and to me the food was not worth the price. We saw one girl working there who is taking the order seating people, bringing out the food, etc. and other people that were supposedly working there, but did not do much of anything.
Unfortunately, I did not want to order a hot pot for myself and my partner because I could see service was lacking because it took her 10 minutes to come take our order. We got our appetizers and they were fine but six pieces of small fried chive cake for $9.95 was quite disappointing. We didn't order much between the four of us, but it seems like a complicated order for the restaurant: two chicken pad Thai with two peanut sauce, one tofu Pad Kea Pao, and a beef rib stew with noodles.
I know with a lot of Asian restaurants things come out as they are prepared, but you would hope that all the food would come out for your table before things came out for other people's tables, it did not. Three of us had food and she came back and asked did we get everything that we ordered which was quite obvious that it was not so she had to go back and ask for another chicken pad Thai. After she finally dropped off the last dish she did not come back at all. Apparently you have to get your own silverware napkins, etc. at the shop as well, but if you're gonna do that, put up a sign that tells you to serve yourself.
The restaurant got busier and she was basically running around and forgot all about us. We had told her that we were going to order something to take out as well, but she said to tell her later because she would forget which is fine but once again she never came back to the table, so we had to go up to the register and order
What I did notice about the food was that the pad Thai looked really bland and the peanut sauce that my friend ordered on the side was not good. The oil was separating from the peanut sauce.
Unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever be back here to try the hot pot AYCE, because the service was very lackluster and for that price I don't think it's worth $50 especially with the server never coming back to check on you.
