"Thai House Barn is now open at 1319 Park Street in downtown Alameda, landing in the former Angkor Grill space. It offers typical Thai standards but also carries a Lao menu, which is the first for the island city." - Janelle Bitker

So delicious! We ordered a couple familiar dishes like the pad Thai and duck curry along with a couple new ones ( I don't remember the names). The food came out quickly. It was all so delicious; I wanted to lick the plates clean. Fair portions, attentive staff, and delicious food. It wasn't very busy at dinner either. I would definitely come back!

Google
We ordered take out on Caviar from Thai House Barn and it was the best Thai food I've had in a while. Everything was super fresh and had a lot of veggies. I love the broccoli in the yellow curry. The portions are rather large for the price. We had the yellow curry, pad thai, coconut rice, papaya salad and the spring rolls. All were excellent.

Allison

Google
Best curry I've had in the bay! They were patient and very accommodating when I called to ask about vegan options and I appreciated the vegan labeling on the website menu. Yay for fresh rolls and Thai iced tea with soy milk--I'll be back!

Liz Garfinkle

Google
Best drunken noodles I've ever had! Spicy, flavorful, and the wide noodles are especially delicate. I imagine the Lao dishes are extra special, but none were vegetarian, so I haven't tried them

Google
Came here on a Wednesday night with the Mrs. We ordered Roti Yellow Curry, Rad Na with chicken and Moo Yang which is grilled pork with sticky rice. The roti tasted like the ones we can buy at any Asian market and the curry dipping sauce was watery. The Rad Na came with pork instead of chicken but we didn't feel like sending it back. That was a mistake because the pork was really dry. The Moo Yang pork was also dry and tough. Our waitress was extremely nice which is why they received two stars instead of one.

Google
Ordered delivery by caviar, soup was very sweet and thick-much thicker than any other Tom khan soup I’ve had, roti extremely oily-could squeeze oil out (inedible), and pad Thai was inconsistently spicy so some bites were extremely spicy-almost inedible, while other parts were fine.

Google
Loved the duck larb. Every bit as good as Daraa in Berkeley but without the attitude or parking issues of North Berkeley. My friend got the yellow vegetarian curry and enjoyed it very much as well. Go here. Quiet, clean, and great food. Service was good too, just make sure you got the correct check. I won't deduct points for such a rookie mistake. I'm still in a really good mood from the spicy duck larb!

Google
We’ve come here a handful of times and have really enjoyed all the food we’ve tried. The vegan yellow curry is delicious and can be made very spicy if you request it. I’m so glad this is in Alameda now.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food and great service! The restaurant is clean and taken well care of as well. My coworker and I came for a late lunch, and we were greeted very pleasantly upon arrival. We got pad see ew and the crab fried rice. Both dishes were so packed with flavor! The crab fried rice comes with fish sauce, and it is *chef's kiss*. I loved he portion sizes, as we ended up having left overs after for a snack. Service is amazing. Everyone is incredibly kind and attentive! I've been back again and still love it to much! May Thai is delicious.

Jenny H.

Yelp
We got papaya salad, eggplant with tofu, coconut lemongrass soup, and the fried fish. The fried fish was an big fish that's enough for two people. The papaya salad is your standard papaya salad. The soup was good too. We got the curry too and my mom liked it. The favorite of the night was the eggplant with tofu! Absolutely delicious and the flavor was great! The thai tea is good but a small size. Staff is nice. I'd come again to try other items on their menu!

Bri W.

Yelp
Pad see ew (extra brown) is my favorite. It "hits the spot" every time. I'll dine solo or with friends and family, that's how good it is. The service has improved from the past. Hope and Jimmy are really sweet and attentive. I love how clean and tidy the restaurant is. Always has clean floors, tables, and bathrooms. All the ingredients are super fresh and the highest grade meats I've ever had at a Thai restaurant. My top 3 picks outside of the pad see ew are: TARO PUFFS, COCONUT LEMONGRASS SOUP, and KHAO SOI CURRY NOODLE. Other spotlights include: the classic pad Thai, chicken satay, yellow curry, Tom yum soup, and for dessert: mango sticky rice. Thank you May, PP, and Team for your dedication to creating the best Thai eatery experience. I taste the love you put in your food with every bite.

Julie H.

Yelp
We love the food here! I love the curry and the whole fried fish it's so yummy! The ambiance here is also really nice. The workers are also really nice. We always enjoy dining here!

Timothy B.

Yelp
Great Thai food. You cannot miss on the menu as the crab fried rice, won tons, and pad Thai were amazing. I love spicy food and they gave me the Thai hot spice level. Their wings were so delicious. This is an Alameda must!

Kris B.

Yelp
Delicious Thai food! Came here with my two best friends and we had a delicious dinner, shared everything family style. Friendly service and food came out fast. Favorite items were the pumpkin curry and pad see ew noodles. There's a very nice relaxing ambience to the place and we were able to take a long time talking and catching up without feeling rushed. Will definitely come back again!

Irene C.

Yelp
Just amazing experience here. Arrived on a Sunday at 7-8 pm. We were seated immediately and water was served. Our servers were super nice and attentive . Service was 10/10. The food was 100/10! May Thai has become my favorite Thai restaurant in the Bay Area! Ordered Pad Kee Mao with Pork. I could not stop saying how delicious it was. Flavor exploded in my mouth continuously . Green Curry with rice. At first I thought the curry was a bit thin but the flavor was just mind blowing . Pineapple fried rice was legit. Flavorful. I love strong flavors and this place does it right ! Must try this place for authentic Thai food!

Eliezer M.

Yelp
The lemongrass chicken soup was incredible, I will definitely be returning for that. Bursting with flavor. Also some of the the best Chicken Satay I've ever had, with thick, juicy chicken and delicious peanut sauce. I've also tried the Panang Seafood dish, which was decent. Haven't given the noodles a fair shot yet. Good water.

Felicia B.

Yelp
Found this place randomly on one of the delivery apps and I'm so glad I did!! I've passed this restaurant so many times and didn't know it. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken for my mother and the Phad Krapow with minced chicken and a fried egg on top for myself and we shared an order of shrimp rolls. EVERYTHING was amazing! So amazing that we had it delivered TWICE in one week!! Great portion sizes. We both got 2-3 meals out of our dishes. We will definitely be ordering again but getting our own separate orders if the shrimp rolls because those are too good to share!! Highly recommend all 3 items!

Renny T.

Yelp
May Thai Kitchen is my next favorite! The meals are clean, well done and delicious! The puffs are yummy and really fulfilling! I love the spicy green beans with your own choice of protein (i get it with beef). They have a plenty of drinks but I've only had their iced tea so far and it's good! Ambiance is warm and welcoming which is an another star! The little details that make it better! The restroom is well taken care of and that's an another star! Service is on point! They're friendly and accommodating! I'm coming back!!!

Debbie F.

Yelp
The food is so delicious here! Both dishes were excellent and a beautiful presentation! Staff is very attentive

Alyssa M.

Yelp
Ordered food to go. Pad see ew was tasty. Crab Rangoon was ok. Too much cream cheese, all artificial crab. Didn't love the green curry.

Lauren M.

Yelp
Still have amazing food! Never had anything I didn't like. Recently gave the yellow curry a try again (previously thought it was a tad too sweet) now it's a perfect balance and now my go to!

Carol C.

Yelp
Date: 9/30/2023 Time: 1:30 PM 65° Overcast After my sister had her hair cut at Supercuts, she and I walked a few doors away to May Thai Kitchen for lunch. What can I say? The restaurant is one of casual and comfort. At the time we were there, it was quiet and we did not wait long for our eats. Service was attentive because we were the only patrons in there for about 1/2 hour. After perusing the menu and inquiring what was the butterfly lemon iced tea, the host/waiter gave me a description of the tea. The butterfly pea flower is bright blue and is a native flower of the South Asia region. He said the tea is blue. Well, curiosity got the best of me. Blue tea? Hmmm, I will have one. My sister opted for the lychee tea. Her tea was okay. She had better elsewhere. Eats: Eggplant with jasmine rice for me. Yellow curry chicken with brown rice for my sister. We both chose mild for the level of spiciness. Even though what we had was delicious and a tad underwhelming, we know the next time to kick it up a notch to medium spiciness on those two menu items. The butterfly lemon iced tea was not blue, but purple. It was not overly sweet, refreshing and quite good. Future visit? Yes, to try other items on the menu and the butterfly lemon iced tea.

Yelp
May Thai is one of my favorite local spots. Their food is consistently delicious, whether it's appetizers, noodles, or their steak. I've ordered takeout and dined in many times. The only downside is the wait time. If you're looking for a quick meal, this might not be the best choice. The last time I went with a friend, the place was packed and it took a while to get seated, order, and receive our food. The food itself was great, but the service was a bit slow. It seemed like there weren't enough staff to handle the crowd. While I love May Thai's food, I might stick to takeout or delivery in the future to avoid the long wait times.

Hanh T.

Yelp
The ambiance is nice and customer service was great . We came on a Sunday right before closing . The curry rotti was delish ! The Thai tea with real coconut milk caught me off guard but it was good . I thought it would be the carton ones but this tasted like it was from the actual can of coconut milk . The pad see ew was good and the meat was up to par I love how it was flavorful and not at all chewy ! The crispy rice salad however was so salty to me if you didn't add the lettuce to it . No matter how much lime I squeezed.

Nancy B.

Yelp
Food is amazing all the time! It comes delivered hot. Have tried many Thai restaurants, May Thai is always consistent

Amanda H.

Yelp
Prompt seating. Food took some time but picked up after the drinks came. Great food, with the exception of the Panang beef (a little too dry and chewy).

Dora C.

Yelp
The staff is always friendly and attentive. Most importantly the food is amazing!! The will box your to go for you and always say bye or conversate when checking in with you.

Fred S.

Yelp
We were lured in by the super high Yelp rating. While I agree with others that the Pad See Ew was tasty and definitely worth ordering, we felt that the fried calamari was tough and chewy (no tentacles) , with a too sweet sauce and the mushroom dumplings were just ok, and a little strange with the addition of canned corn... We did like the sauce that they served with the dumplings, which had fresh ginger and green onions. Overall, I would say that they should have something like a 3.8-4 star rating...

Ng M.

Yelp
I've always had great experiences here until today. I ordered Pad See Ew and calamari for takeout, but unfortunately, the food was extremely salty--almost like eating pure salt. This has never happened before. The vegetables weren't cut into bite-sized pieces, but that's a minor issue. The Pad See Ew was unusually wet and overly salty, making it hard to eat. I couldn't finish it and was really disappointed this time

Steve G.

Yelp
Came here with a couple of friends who frequent this establishment. They ordered all the food and everything was fantastic. Maybe the best Thai food I've ever had. The pad see ew was very favorable and not overpowering like some of the other places. Same with the yellow curry. Service was outstanding. We'll definitely be back!

Danny G.

Yelp
Great service, food was excellent and very spicy on request. The inside is small and quiet but with a lot of space between you and other guests. I had the Tom Kha and Panang curry, both recommended.

Jasmine W.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday at 1 PM during prime lunchtime, and there was only 1 waiter. How are you going to run a restaurant that's open for lunch on a weekend on a busy street that only has 1 person working? Waited 30 minutes without even getting the chance to order, so we just left hungry and upset.

Matthew L.

Yelp
I came here a few times over the past 6 months, and the food was solid. Service was attentive. But recently I came here a month ago on a very busy Sunday, and the experience was disappointing. The restaurant seemed to be understaffed, only being managed by a new waitress who I hadn't seen before. It was busy so it took many times to ask her for a menu. Water never came, so we had to flag her a few times for water. I imagine that that day maybe the restaurant didn't expect so many customers, and maybe it was the waitress's first day or something. The service was definitely off that day. My friend and I had ordered the green curry and spicy eggplant dish. The green curry, which I usually order was super watery and bland. Previous times, the curry was thick and flavorful. Maybe they were low on curry paste that day... The eggplant dish was good as previously had, so no complaints on that dish. When the restaurant was newer and less known, the food quality and service was great. But with my most recent visit, this was not the case. A bit disappointed that my most recent experience was so different than previous times. I probably would give the restaurant one more chance to see if my most recent visit was a fluke. Hopefully, so - because the food/service here was so good at one point. I would be sad if otherwise.

Thao L.

Yelp
Excellent food & exceptional customer service. Highly recommend this place. Very friendly staff and great ambiance for date night or family gatherings.

Lani N.

Yelp
Thai and Vietnamese hit right when we're looking for a meal that is both fresh and comforting. We were excited to see a new Thai restaurant open and ordered delivery, everything was just as we'd hoped: fresh and comforting. Crispy Rice Salad: EHRMAHGAWSH I love this salad. I got the sausage on the side so hubs could enjoy. This one is heavier on ginger than Bahn Mae Vane, different but still delicious. Crispy Vegetable Rolls: Fresh, crunchy, awesome sauces (although if I had to choose I'd go for the Crispy Rice Salad over these Pad Thai with tofu: chewy and delicious. Next time I'd add extra veg because we like veggies Red Curry with tofu: solid red curry Side peanut sauce, nice portion size for $4. So yum. Everything was hot when it arrived and packed with care. Looking forward to taro and chicken curry puffs. Thank you so much for a delicious meal!

Jerome F.

Yelp
This place is cooking some of the best classic Thai dishes I've had in the bay. Classic dishes are packed with flavor. Generous serving sizes that are good to share. Service is amazing! They're friendly and even pack the food for you.

Perla R.

Yelp
They always leave kind notes on my delivery orders . Thank you . The food is delicious as well.

KP P.

Yelp
I've been searching for a good salad! I tried May Thai's Mango salad ! And I was impressed! They have a lot of different varieties of food like crab fried rice, curry , rolls and Katsu. I love the salad and think I will come back for it but it was great and hit the spot! If your vegetarian they have a lot of good choices

Rizza C.

Yelp
One of my fav thai spots on park st. In particularly foR PAD THAI!!! Service is always so friendly. The way the restaurants seating is organized and simple. Thanks again! (Im a repeat regular lol)

The Greasy G.

Yelp
I really love this place, they are so nice to me every time I go in! The food tastes great and the staff is extremely warm and welcoming. I've tried a few of the other Thai places on Park st and this is the one I find myself back at time and time again.

Leicia W.

Yelp
FANTASTIC. Food was delicious. Recommend the lemongrass soup. Also service was wonderful.. which I can't say for most places nowadays. Our waitress was very friendly and went above and beyond. Like genuinely friendly which is so refreshing since usually I feel like at other restaurants the staff barely Acknowledges you. They have vegan/vegetarian options which is a huge plus!! And they can do large parties - there was a cute birthday celebration when we arrived. You can tell the people who run this place do it with love and hard work and it shows. Such a gem, will definitely return. Thank you so much

Katrina F.

Yelp
Excited to try this place a third time around but in person instead of takeout delivery. I went with a friend and my partner. This is my friends favorite Thai place in the Bay east choice! She even knows the owners as a patron and some waiters as she is a regular and was greeted by them by name which gave it the homey feel to me. The pineapple fried rice was a bit bland. You definitely need the spicy sauce that it comes with to drizzle on the rice dish to give it that flava. The Thai tea lemonade was amazing and a must try if you order. Super refreshing for the spring weather we will be experiencing soon. The Khao Sai Curry Noodle Soup dish and Shrimp Pad Thai were both super flavorful. Both dishes were rich and I used the curry soup base to actually give more flavor to my portion of the pineapple rice dish. We all shared everything. I will definitely be back to make the Thai tea lemonade, shrimp pad Thai, and Khao Sai Curry Noodle as my go to's and maybe try something new on the menu.

Yola S.

Yelp
I had lunch yesterday at May Thai so yummy, green seafood curry and sticky rice. It was so delicious and affordable The best

Nadav M.

Yelp
Nice place for a nice lunch and late dinner. It was a day before a holiday or on the holiday and the place seemed very well taken care of, neat, and very clean. I was greeted with a smile and had the freedom to sit anymore. It looked like the place was for reservation but it was that nice and prompt that it just made you feel welcome. Very good on the aesthetics. I got the pad kee mao and it was on point with the flavours and the quality. The dish was made on point; the vegetables no overcooked and a perfect amount of crunch, flavour was there which blended the consistency and flavour very well together. My favourite part is the sauces. You are warned about which is spicy and what goes with what. I'm a big sucker for sauces and to have them as options right in the table was golden. AC Transit buses 20,21,51A, 78, and O pass by. Nearest BART would be Fruitvale station.

Emily P.

Yelp
Food was excellent and service was nice and prompt. They didn't check on us too much, which was okay because we were busy enjoying the delicious food. But they were responsive when needed. Place is clean and has a comfy cozy feel where pillows are provided. It's our new favorite spot in Alameda.

Lee D.

Yelp
Quality/Quantity - We ordered the following: Know that you will pay extra for choice of meats; it says so on the back of the menu, but if you are not paying attention, it can be a surprise. Crispy Vegetable Rolls - Egg rolls, comes with 4 cut in half, so 8 halves. Taro Puffs - Very generous with the taro filling Coconut Lemongrass Soup + $2 Chicken- This was a hit, it came on fire. Not sure if we were supposed to wait until the fire went out??? Which it never did, so we just blew it out after it started boiling, so we could serve the dish without setting ourselves on fire. Pad See Ew + $3 Beef - Generous portions and my daughters favorite, so it was a hit; she almost did not share. Crab Fried Rice - Good, but nothing special. Seafood Eggplant - I think there was also fish in this dish, although it did not state fish on the menu. Good flavors, small portion; but then again it is a seafood dish. Spicy Green Beans + $2 chicken - This was VERY spicy, everyone just took one bite and I took the rest home. I will add it to another dish tomorrow to "dilute" it. Drinks: Thai Ice Teas - Good. Coconut Juice - Could have used more coconut meat. Singha Beer - When in a Thai restaurant... Atmosphere - Small local restaurant. New cool decor. Service - Slow, as if they were understaffed or just overwhelmed. They struggled with the in-house customers and take-out customers. We of course ate during peak dinner time which didn't help. It took 1 hours and 20 minutes to receive our first dish after we sat down. Price - $200 which includes the mandatory 18% tip for our party of 7. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since February of this year. Wishing you the best.

Yelp
I was looking for dinner after running some errands and this place sounded familiar and when I walked in the door and was hit with the scent of an artificial candle, I recalled I had been here before. Aside from the appalling scent of a toxic candle ruining the aromatic smells of Thai food, and the obnoxiously loud music, this place is a winner. I've been here twice and the service was good/great, the portions were ample, and the food is above average. My only hope is that if they like the aesthetic of candles, they choose non-toxic and unscented in the future. The food will taste better and people with asthma might breathe a little easier. In response the the owner's reply: culture is great, not being able to hear myself think because music is so loud the restaurant is more like a club than a place to relax and enjoy a meal is not.

Connie C.

Yelp
Yum, enjoyed everything we had! My friend and I came by on a Sunday night for dinner. We shared: The spicy heavenly wings--not very spicy, enjoyed the crispy basil leaves on top and the sweet glaze! Would order again. Tom yum soup (with tofu)--this hit the spot if you like Tom yum flavor. It's got a little bit of sweetness to it, which I liked. Cool presentation with the flame in the middle, but it burnt out pretty quickly and soup got a little cold since we were busy talking--definitely drink this up while it's still hot! I'd definitely get this again. Crispy rice salad--never had this sort of salad before! I liked it, and it was very refreshing. The crispy rice reminded me of fried chicken crust. It's got fermented pork in it, but I didn't really taste it. Should be eaten quickly otherwise the crispy rice gets soggy! I liked it but I think I might go for another salad next time!

Sinai M.

Yelp
Food is great!! Probably one of my favorite Thai places on the island just wish the portions were bigger compared to other places . My favorite is the pad see ew w chicken. The total for 2 plates and a dessert was around $54 which seemed a little on the pricier end but most places are charging around the same nowadays

Aja N.

Yelp
My family loves Thai food, but unfortunately I wouldn't try this place again. The food was just okay. The sweet and sour fish was good, but not worth it because there was barely any meat on it. We asked If we could sub for filets instead of the whole fish since there was filets on the menu for the same price, but we were told no. The pumpkin curry was very very watery and the pumpkin was rock hard, we couldn't eat it. The pad see ew noodles were very very stuck together and not good. Usually a favorite of ours. Overall kind of disappointed and wouldn't return since there are a ton of other options for Thai food in Alameda.

Rodney S.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. Literally everything was cooked to perfection. Being that we are new pescatarians we found a new favorite place OMG, generous portions and fairly priced. Pat who you more likely encounter makes the visit that more pleasant. Hell of a guy. Crab fried rice f I've star, garlic and pepper veggies, WOW! Crab cakes were just o.K. . Awsome lil joint in downtown San Rafael.

Richard F.

Yelp
Foods, service and Environment are excellent, even though the price is a few higher than other Thai restaurant nearby

Ameera J.

Yelp
I'm very picky when it comes to Thai food, being from San Francisco, I have high expectations. I ordered from door dash based on the yelp reviews. The food came and was absolutely delicious! Beautiful presentation, great portion sizes. VERY GOOD FOOD. Will definitely order again. As far as service this was an online order but there was a cute sticker on the bag that said thank you.

Rose H.

Yelp
Amazing food and great service. I got the chicken red curry with sticky rice. We ordered a variety of food and everything was awesome. Calamari is a must. Also, the portions are HUGE! Be prepared for left overs and don't skip out on May Thai.

Keasela R.

Yelp
The food was delicious. I felt like I ate a home cooked meal! The ambiance & service was so welcoming & attentive! The mushroom dumpling appetizer was a big hit w/ my kids! The mango w/ sticky rice is the best version I've ever had & I LOVE dessert! The dishes we ordered yellow curry & pad see ew are like a litmus test for us...May Thai did not disappoint! We were so full at the end of our meal & still had enough to bring home. I can't wait to return & try more of their menu!

Julia P.

Yelp
This is my go to for takeout when I have a bad day. I like it even more than Farmhouse which used to be my regular place. The staff are kind and cook with Love and even modified my DoorDash order when I called after placing it. Love this place!

Ada K.

Yelp
Finally!! A really good Thai restaurant in Alameda! All the ingredients are super fresh and super well prepared and beautifully presented. I am impressed. You should go!
