Remembering the Beloved Chef and Owner Behind Seattle’s Thai Tom | Eater Seattle

"Opened in Bellevue in 1981 by Lisa Suanpirintra Ruhl, this family-run Thai Kitchen has been credited as one of the first restaurants to introduce Thai food to the Pacific Northwest." - Gabe Guarente

Amazing food weight and service attitude! I had no idea that a 20 dollars curry was like this. They have a rather huge bowl! We didn't order rice at all because the chef controlled the salt content of the dishes very much. Yes, that's why this $20 curry doesn't come with any rice. It's really sweet! At 3pm today, we came to this store for the first time, we planned to look at the menu before deciding whether to stay. The waiter gave us a 11am-3pm menu and left quickly, even though she was not busy, it didn't help us introduce the menu at all. She acquiesced that we wouldn't have any problems, which was really great! Even though we knew nothing, we were interested in some food, so we decided to stay. We didn't get any drinks after ordering. But it doesn't matter. The food wasn't salty. We don't need water at all. Apparently the waiter thinks so, too. We scanned the code on the table and ordered 3pm-5pm happy hour's food. But we didn't pay according to that menu in the end. Their menu was marked with huge and bold fonts that we must order drinks and no one reminded us. Of course in the end we didn't paid at the happy hour price. It was really a great great meal! Give you one star because there is no zero star option here.🥰🥰🥰

Disappointing Experience – Won’t Be Returning I rarely leave negative reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience. I recently visited this Thai restaurant with high hopes, but unfortunately, it was a letdown from start to finish. First, the service was incredibly poor. We waited an unreasonably long time just to place our order, and the staff seemed disinterested and unprofessional throughout. Our server barely checked on us, and it felt like we were an inconvenience rather than valued customers. Then came the food — and that was even more disappointing. The flavors were bland and didn’t resemble the vibrant, authentic Thai cuisine I was expecting. I tried to give the place the benefit of the doubt, but the overall lack of care in both service and food made it a frustrating and underwhelming experience. Sadly, I won’t be returning or recommending this spot to others.

Google
Probably my least favourite out of the thai restaurants I've been to in Bellevue. It's not bad, but pretty average and not as traditional. I had the khao soi, and what stood out was that the noodles were very thin, unlike the traditional flatter egg noodles. The broth was thin and the flavour wasn't quite on point. The $24 price was also the highest I've seen out of the restaurants I've been to. Overall, unlikely I'd visit again

Google
Came in here and immediately seated. The food was ok, considering the price but then again it is in Bellevue area. The Tom Yum soup size was too small for the price in my opinion. We asked for the most spicy, it wasn't spicy at all to us with any of the dishes. There was a company meeting on the second floor, got a bit rowdy but we didn't mind it as much. Unsure if we'll come back to this establishment. For a Thai restaurant in Bellevue right smack in the middle of downtown, it's ok. However, we'd rather drive a bit further.

Google
This restaurant is located on the 3rd floor in Bellevue Square next to Crate n Barrel, it has an upscale Asian atmosphere, the lighting is low and the decorations are beautiful. There’s plenty of seating even upstairs. The drinks and food arrived quickly. I ordered the Pad Thai and found it difficult to eat-not my favorite-the flavor and spice was lacking big time! The cream cheese/crab Rangoon was tasty and full of filling. I also ordered a drink called “Pretty Please” now the flavor of this drink was so delightful and refreshing I highly recommend it. I can’t remember the names of the other dishes my friends ordered but they seemed to thoroughly enjoy their food. The service was decent just know that if you have a large party they will not split the bill unless you request your portion to be separate.

Google
Pretty good taste for the food, although REALLY DISAPPOINTED service by the two staff upstairs. Turning back on us multiple times without even waiting for us to finish the sentence, inconsiderate with our toddler situation, not providing us itemized receipt (which already includes 18% service fee for group of 6 or more). Not pleasant experience even the food reconciled part of it. Not gonna re-visit.

Google
I would recommend getting the crispy pork for an appetizer. The pork belly was fried to perfection. They were not oily at all but yet each pieces were crispy on the outside; moist and soft in the middle. The dipping sauce was sweet and tangy, it was perfect. For entree I ordered Panang Curry with chicken with spice level 4 out of 5. The curry was rich and creamy from the coconut milk. Spice level 4 was not too spicy at all. At least not for me. I love spicy food. I always compare to how it would taste back home in Thailand. And overall, I would recommend Thai Kitchen Bird Pepper if you want an authentic taste of Thailand. The staff were also very nice and attentive. You can’t go wrong here.

Google
One of the best Thai restaurants in the area. The spring rolls are some of the best I've ever had, freshly made every day in house. Most dishes are very tasty, so it's a bit let down by the green curry and the fried rice, which are better at Bangkok Basil.

Yelp
We had a bit of trouble finding this spot. It's on the 2nd floor, but make sure to cross the "bridge" out toward the parking lot. Drunken noodles with chicken were tasty and flavorful. Everything came together nicely, though the large veggie pieces (especially the basil) could've been chopped smaller for better balance. Pineapple fried rice was just okay, great for anyone who prefers mild flavors. You get a subtle curry note and a hint of pineapple in the background. Service was super quick and the spot itself is nicely tucked away. Cute and casual, great for dining any time of day.Is just me or everyone seemed to know each other here?

Yelp
Lunch after a mall stroll--and what a great choice it was! We started with a Bird Pepper Margarita that hit the perfect sweet-and-spicy balance. The veggie spring rolls were fresh, hot, and perfectly crispy--clearly made to order. For mains, we had the tofu Khao Soi, which was absolutely packed with flavor, and the curried pineapple fried rice, which hit all the right notes--fragrant, savory, and just the right hint of sweetness. Service was a highlight: we changed our order from Pad Thai to Khao Soi about 10 minutes in, and they were super accommodating and kind about it. The staff checked in on us just enough, and the overall vibe was warm and welcoming. The classy decor added to the experience. Highly recommend--every dish was a hit, and the service made it even better!

Yelp
The drinks were beautiful and tasty. Got the snap dragon mocktail and snow angel mocktail. The snap dragon is a little sour but refreshing. The snow angel is sweeter. Pumpkin curry is flavorful, but it doesn't come with rice. You'll need to order it on the side. It only comes in medium spicy but it is still less spicy than hot Cheetos. Pad Thai was sweet and delicious. Also got it in medium, and it was less spicy than a hot Cheetos. Chicken satay sauce was amazing. The cucumber side was refreshing and not sour. Careful of the turmeric it will get on your hands from touching the stick. I forgot the name of this entree, but it has crispy pork belly. The rice has a nice flavoring The decor was very clean and they seemed to keep fresh flowers Service was friendly and attentive. They checked in on the tables frequently, giving advice on how to enjoy some of the dishes and checked if the drinks were too sweet. They offered to add more soda to help if the drinks were too sweet. Incredible service! They have two entrances. One from the Main Street, you will climb some stairs. The other is connected to the mall and the parking garage, it's on the third floor.

Yelp
We popped in for dinner after shopping in the mall. We had been meaning to try this restaurant for a while...Overall everything was good. I was expecting a richer menu (probably comparing it to other local Thai restaurants in Seattle) and maybe more non-spicy dishes. We ordered the crab wontons (they were 6 pieces). Super yummy with sweet and sour sauce. For mains, we had Pan See Ew and the Beef Green Curry. All was good. To note, the vegetables were quite chunky on the noodle dish and you need to order a side of rice for any curry you get. We didn't get anything to drink aside from water. Service was quick. Ambiance is nice, warm, and inviting. Two-story restaurant. Plenty of parking on the level of crate and barrel in the mall.

Yelp
We were at Bellevue Square and saw advertisement for this Thai restaurant decided to have lunch. We ordered yellow Curry and Pad Thai with chicken. When the food arrived, we took a bite in the chicken was so tough You couldn't chew it and hard time cutting it with a knife. We ended up returning both meals and not ordering anything else , the waitress seemed irritated that We didn't want to try anything else and Simply pick up the dishes walked away and didn't say anything. Very poor customer service, we will never go back.

Yelp
Ambiance : 10/10 Service : 10/10 Food : 9/10 Found this Thai place in Bellevue. Quickly got seated; there was no wait time. Ambiance is great. Very spacious and nice decor. Service is excellent. Our server always comes by our table and see if everything was okay. Of course, there will always be drinks. Got us both mock-tails! One was snap dragon which was tangy and light sour. It was good. Second was sweet sunshine which it tasted like a sweet candy. Both drinks are flavorful and definitely recommend if you looking for non alcohol drinks. Food was delicious but there was one dish that was a little too spicy for me but it was good. Pad Thai and pad see ew are both my favorite dish when it comes to eating Thai food. It was delicious. Overall, this is a place where you can go after a long mall walk. Recommend place if you are looking for some good Thai food!!

Yelp
We came in for lunch and thought it was fantastic. We were seated right away, they use QR codes for the menus. Service was quick and friendly. We got the traditional pad Thai and yellow curry - both great. The pad Thai noodles were cooked perfectly and had really good flavor. Wasn't too busy but still a decent amount of people there. Will definitely come back to try some of their other dishes.

April L.

Yelp
We ordered drunken noodle with fried tofu and pad Thai with chicken and they were both good but too greasy. Too much oil added to the noodles but other than that the sauce and taste were great.

Yelp
Came here for lunch. Nice establishment. Service was attentive and friendly. Here's what we got: Fire Bird Wings (5): Lightly crispy. Tasty savory and tangy dry rub. Chili sauce complimented them. Not too spicy but had great flavor. Panang Duck Curry (5): This was fantastic! Great flavor and consistency. The duck was a really nice touch. I normally get panang with beef or chicket. The duck was good. Moist and adds a bit of flavor. I'll definitely be back to try more of their menu but so far, its a winner.

Yelp
Very nice ambience located in a high energy center of Bellevue downtown. The menus are on the table available as small QR codes. the lighting is dim so your device may have a hard time reading it. staff. not sure why, wasn't terribly friendly when we visited day before Christmas eve.

Yelp
Absolutely the best food! I've been coming here since they opened and have tried many dishes, and have enjoyed each one. Great service and such a cute restaurant. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed or late lunch. My husband and I needed a quick snack while shopping and we've always wanted to try this restaurant. It was happy hour so we got the Thai green tea (a must try), guava lemonade (perfection), prawn fresh rolls (the sauces!!!!!), green beans (can't go wrong), and the pad woon sen. For me these noodles were the star. Packed with gai lan, celery, carrot, tomato, egg and everything had a lovely char to it. On top of the delicious food, the two women working were wonderful. They reminded me of all the lovely Asian women who helped raised me. They checked on us the perfect amount of times, were super kind, very helpful, and they made me feel like I was in their home. For us Asians food is how we show love and I felt that from them. It's also super gorgeous inside and way bigger than I thought. I will 100% be coming back. Don't sleep on this restaurant.

Yelp
One of the best Thai food places! We started off with the crab wontons, and they were the best I've ever had! They added pepper, or some thing, that just made them out of this world. I also had the duck curry which was delicious and service was great. Large dinning area with beautiful seating and a good location in Bellevue mall by the parking garage

Yelp
I met a colleague for lunch here and surprisingly Thai food was delicious. It's located between Crate & Barrel and Nordstrom on the second floor of Bellevue Square. We've ordered pad thai and a shrimp dish with brown rice. Pad Thai seasoning was flavorful & noodles cooked just right. Shrimp dish had tons of flavor & fresh shrimps. I've ordered 2 Star & a bit spicy - make sure to spice down. Friendly staff who are very attentive. Ambience is pretty, lighting is great with big windows. If you're shopping at Bell Sq & need to grab delicious Thai cuisine, stop by for A delicious treat. Bon appetite!

Yelp
Its been a while since my first visit here so i decided on a Saturday night to take the husband here to give it a try. We ordered the Bangkok Chicken (crispy throughout but a bit stiff to bite through), Curry Pineapple Fried Rice (sweet pineapples, generous with the cashews, egg, and pineapples mix, but chicken was dry), and Cashew Gai (over drenched in sauce and barely any cashews within the dish). For drinks, my husband ordered the Jasmine Blossom. A smooth drink and he described it as "tastes like you're drinking from a hibiscus flower". Overall, we will not come back here again. Wanted to give them another try from the last time i tried them out, but sadly seemed more disappointment in this experience than the last. The drinks and service were great though.

Yelp
I only put five stars for the employees... Wouldn't go otherwise....................... (Needed 85 more characters to complete my review. Gah! Ridiculous! Where can I leave a yelp review on yelp?!)
google avatar

Yelp
Big lunch portion for a good price $15. I had the yellow chicken curry. It had potatoes and another vegetable that was shredded bamboo. It was different than what I'm used to but the bamboo was fresh and added a complex flavor. Overall I enjoyed it and this is a good option for lunch.

Yelp
I have been going to this restaurant for the past year and can say wholeheartedly that it is the benchmark for all other Thai restaurants. The ambiance of the place is aesthetically pleasing. And the team are very friendly. They are SOOO good that I even asked them to cater for my wedding. My guests were big fans also! My go-to order (would highly recommend): 4 star chicken pad Thai 4 star fried tofu panang curry Fried spring rolls ^10/10 rating for all dishes.

Yelp
Delicious and authentic Thai restaurant. Excellent cuisine and cocktails! Lovely decor and very attentive staff. Highly recommend and I will definitely be returning=)

Yelp
Food was fantastic and reasonable prices on most dishes. The appetizers were a little spendy but we got 2 different ones and they were both good. 88.00 for 2 appetizers and 2 dinners Service was fantastic

Yelp
We arrived at 7:25 PM on Friday, 3/03/23. Had to wait to be seated since it was peak dinner time and there were a lot of people dining in. The hostess took us upstairs and seated us at a table. We didn't receive any menus, so we were checking on our phones until one of the servers came and gave us 2 paper menus. After a brief look, we picked out our food items. Ordered the Fresh Summer Rolls with Shrimp, Pork Belly, Papaya Salad (5 Star Spice Level), Phad Woonsen with Chicken (4 Stars), and a Mixed Veggie dish with Chicken (3 Stars). We got our appetizers after about 10 minutes of ordering - Fresh Summer Rolls, Papaya Salad first and then the Pork Belly. The 3 Apps were pretty tasty. The Papaya Salad was more on the sour tasting side even though it was plenty spicy. The entrees we got were definitely not at the spice level we had asked for at all. Mixed veggies and the noodle dish tasted bland, lacked flavor and had 0 level of spice! Not sure what the point was of asking us for the spice level if they weren't going to put any chili in there?! I mean, didn't see a single chili pepper or taste a hint of spiciness at all. Not sure if the order was placed correctly or if the chefs were too busy with all of the other customers' orders, but we were pretty disappointed with the flavors. Lack of seasoning, lack of flavor and attention to detail with the main plates we ordered... Overall a disappointing and unsatisfying experience. We have been to this restaurant many times before and never had a bad dining experience until now. I mean, the foods tasted alright, just weren't up to our standards and didn't meet our expectations with the spice level in general even though the service was good.

Yelp
I was blown away by this Resturant . The food was more then amazing. It was over the top. This place has to be one of the best Resturant in down town Bellevue . The ambiance has a romantic style. The decor is just right. From the candles to the flowers on the every table and bar. To see how the staff pulls together and never stress when busy, so refreshing to see how everyone working there is ready and willing to help one another out with every guest as to see that no guest ever has to wait for doors or drink's was so nice to see. The bartender was so nice and very friendly making you feel like you have been friends for years. The owner is there with a very welcoming smile to all who enter her door and you can see that the owner and staff relationship is all about team work and making the guests feel like family. I highly recommend trying out this Resturant, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
We went to this place for the first time after they opened. We love Thai food this was really looking forward to it. The place has nice interior decor. The service was also good. We find the food lackluster though. We ordered Pud Kra Pao with Fried Egg bow and lunch special yellow curry. The curry was alright and we've had better. The bowl was way too salty. I think they added too much soy sauce. OverLl I think they are alright. Maybe we should come back another time to try some other dishes and update the review again once we've done that.

Louis S.

Yelp
We wanted a casual dinner one night and tried this place at Bell Square. After reading the menu, I discovered that it was owned by the same people as Thai Tom on the Ave. I've never really been a big fan of that place despite its popularity - but I knew they could at least do some basic stuff right with some wok hei. So I tried their Khao Moo Deng - listed at the top of the menu clearly as their signature dish. It came out a very sad looking dish with a scoop of rice with some clearly reheated BBQ pork and pork belly with some sweetened plum sauce-like gravy. I suspect most of the ingredients were just store bought based on the taste. Looks like most of the restaurant was busy with cocktail drinks and dessert crepes. Most of Bell Square is pretty lame for food, but this was a step below.
google avatar

Michele S.

Yelp
Came here again. Had phad Thai, phad see ew, khao soi and it was SO good. A little saucy but I love the dishes like that. The phad Thai was tart and sweet- an explosion of taste! Smoky phad see ew delivered. Dishes were on the verge of being questioned as a little too small but we over ordered so I was fine with it.
google avatar

Sue H.

Yelp
Ordered it to go. Tried 3 items, only somewhat liked one. Everything is overpriced. Doesn't include rice so have to dish out more $ to add rice. Can get much better at other restaurants.

Yelp
The name of this place intrigued us.. and it is beautifully decorated. Other than that.. food was not that good and service was not friendly. We were frustrated because she saw we had two toddlers with us and our first dish was chicken pud pak (like a veggie stir fry) and we specifically told her to have no spice on this dish for the kiddos. The other two dishes for the adults we wanted 3 stars. When we get the pud pak... my daughter actually had to ask for water and I had no clue it was spicy. When we asked about it.. server Nae was arguing with us that we said 3-star spice. Even though it doesn't make sense why we would want spice for our toddlers. So we had to wait for the new dish being made. Also portions were so small. We paid $22 for their bangkok chicken and it barely fed two people. Same with the pad thai. I wouldn't waste your time and money on this place. Way other authentic thai restaurants out there.

Yelp
This gem in Bellevue is kinda hidden in Bellevue Square. Located upper floors next to Crate and Barrels with free parking. My pictures don't do justice and I missed taking all the pictures of what we ate(yup major Yelp Elite fail) but the smell of food was just so mouth watering that I had to put my phone down and dive in. Veggie Phad Thai- 3* well they take their spice level seriously but I was able to handle the spice level. Phad thai was very flavorful and what I liked the most was the peanuts were on the side and not very overpowering. A lot of veggies, noddles weren't clumpy and not oily at all. We ordered fried rice and shrimp noodles which I wasn't able to eat but my coworkers devoured those dishes in no time. Feedback was spicy, tasteful and perfect portions. Let's talk about the yummy coconut pandan cake- delicious!!! I was so full from lunch but rallied through to enjoy this coconut goodness! They have happy hours from 3-6. The venue is good for small events as they have a upstairs area as well. Service- the minute you enter you feel the warmth of a family environment and I loved this feeling. Great service, clean restaurant and friendly staff. Everyone had a smile on their faces. Highly recommend this place. Price point is very comparable to other Thai places in Bellevue.

Yelp
Three of us came here at 11:40am on a Tuesday for lunch and we were seated right away. The place was definitely a lot busier by noon so plan accordingly if you want a quick lunch. As far as their lunch menu goes, it's a little weak with one item (yellow curry + rice, salad $15). I might try that next time just to see if it's a good value, but this time I opted for the Drunken Noodles w/Chicken ($20) level 4 spice. They use a 1-5 scale and a 4 was "medium plus" in my book. Warm, but my nose wasn't running or anything. It looks like they have a very solid happy hour menu (3-5pm) so I will definitely be back to check that out.
google avatar

Urban I.

Yelp
Took my date here and we split the Tiger Crying and Fried Rice. Really good! Service was great too. Would come back to eat again.
google avatar

Alice L.

Yelp
Crab wontons 3/5 -- too much cream cheese (or maybe I'm just not a fan?) Crispy Garlic Chicken 4/5 -- flavorful but just a bit dry Parking is easy (can park at Nordstorm garage for a 5 min walk). Ambiance is nice inside if a little busy.
google avatar

Helen E.

Yelp
Decent Thai restaurant located in Bellevue Square by Crate & Barrel. My husband and I went here a couple times during both lunch and dinner. They seemed understaffed both times but the service has always been friendly. We did not have reservations but were greeted and seated within five minutes both times. The restaurant has beautiful decoration and the vibe is very chill! The dishes we ordered were quite tasty. We tried 4-star Brody's Fried Rice with Chinese Sausage, Fried Tofu Pad Thai, Garlic Chicken Wings, Thai Toms Fire Cracker Prawns, and the Thai Iced Tea. The only downside is they are on the pricier side. Understandable since they're located in Bellevue. However, that didn't stop us from coming back the 2nd time and for more in the future.
google avatar

Monita B.

Yelp
Save your time and money. This place is not worth. Even with happy hour menu everything came cold and way less portioned. Service didn't care to ask or pay attention to our needs. Drinks came out nothing but water and ice. Truly disappointed and won't bring back my business.
google avatar

Yelp
Thai Kitchen definitely is in a nice area and is your looking an upscale bistro style Thai kitchen this is A go to spot in Bellevue square. Keep in mind in King County you do need a vaccine card. We got a few items that I would not say were delicious but okay. I have noticed prices are increasing all over for it is typical to spend $50 or more on two people. We also got the spicy fried chicken and that was not too great.

Yelp
So, our first stop at a Korean hot tofu soup was longer than an hour wait. So we decided to go to our American normal restaurant but we were craving Asian food. I have tried this place during covid, and I did not like this place. But we decided to give it another try. I still did not like pad thai. Not much chicken. Very sloppy soft and wet noodles. No texture. I remembered why I did not like the food here. Now, the bird pepper wings as an appetizer was delicious. One of the best wings I ever had. The penang curry was too thick and too overpowering. Now the service here was really nice. The host to our waitress, all of them were so wonderful. I give food 2 stars and 4 stars for the service. I would not come back here again.
google avatar

Melissa U.

Yelp
Excellent food! You must make a reservation, because this place is very busy. Their food is pricier than your hole in the wall thai food, but for good reason. You get what you pay for and it was definitely worth it. I highly recommend the drunken noodles, chicken panang curry, fried shrimp appetizer, and chicken satay. All authentic and very flavorful. So good that you just don't want to stop eating! My kids ordered the pad Thai which they said was a bit on the sweet side. Definitely a craveworthy spot!

Yelp
Favorite Thai in Seattle. Such great food and even better staff. Always so kind and welcoming

Yelp
I really enjoyed this restaurant, ordered the Tom Kha Gai soup for two and spicy green beans. Delicious! soup was perfect not to sour or sweet. Most places don't get it right but this was perfect. The staff is amazing, friendly and really wanted us to enjoy the food. Moon was so nice and helpful when we were thinking about dessert. Shared the fried ice cream it did not disappoint. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend, we will definitely be returning. Restaurant was very clean and not noisy. Five stars are not enough.

Yelp
Pretty good Thai place! We came in during happy hour and got seated right away. The menu is QR codes and are on a small block of wood on your table to scan. It looks pretty cool lol. We ordered chicken wings, Thai tea, Thai coffee, fried rice, and a tipsy bird. Everything in total came to $44 so it can get a little pricy, even with happy hour discounts. The customer service is great - the server was really good at anticipating what we need, offering us extra plates so we can split our food and offering me a to go cup for my coffee. I would come back when if im in the area.

J S.

Yelp
Very disappointed in a $125 lunch. Service was inattentive and the food was subpar. I don't have high standards but if you are going to charge Bellevue prices, please deliver something worth remembering. Will not return.
google avatar

Megan K.

Yelp
Came here and ordered to go and I ordered chicken Phad thai. I didn't look at the menu before ordering, and if I would have known the phad thai was $22, I would not have gone here. Thai food can be expensive but $22 is absurd for phad thai. It wasn't that tasty either. They also don't have as many protein options as other thai places. Service was really great though and it looked like it had a nice clean interior!
google avatar

Allison E.

Yelp
Had no wait while every other restaurant nearby was on a wait of over an hour. Food was so good, drinks were good, we got our order quickly, and our server was so nice. The restaurant itself was clean and nice, surprisingly not packed, i would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Food was awesome, fresh spring rolls were amazing, even the dessert was delicious. 10/10!!!!!!

Yelp
Good food and not many people know about it! Recommend for all! Very cool spot. Not loud and good location!

Yelp
[ Visited prior to COVID-19 outbreak ] It's wild to think that the first Thai restaurant opened in the Seattle area only 40 years ago. How did past generations survive without a taste of Pad See Ew or Papaya Salad? Thai Kitchen was born in 1981, followed by Thai Tom in 1984... now Bird Pepper has joined their clan as the third and most recent installment. These three restaurants all stem from the same lineage leaving a lasting legacy on their traditional family recipes. Located on the second floor of Bellevue Square, the restaurant is split into two stories and is therefore much larger than it initially appears when you step inside. We walked past the classy bar area and were seated in the main dining area. Among the dark wooden tables, simple Thai-style decor and natural light, I loved the modern polished interior. Their menu is divided between into small plates, soups and salads, entrees & rice and noodles. They also offer two daily specials served with a side of soup for $13, but we decided it would be more fun to share a couple dishes off the main menu. After all, I never pass up the opportunity to eat "family-style"! The two of us started out with Chicken Satay ($12) as an appetizer. The plate contained three skewers each with a full chicken cutlet, served with house peanut sauce, toasted french bread and a small cup of cucumber salad. The yellow curry marinade on the chicken was fragrant and flavorful while the peanut sauce added a little touch of tang and some additional depth. Plus, the chicken was lean, tender and still juicy despite being solely white meat. From the 'Entrees' section of the menu, we couldn't resist the Bangkok Chicken ($18). I always have a craving for fried chicken, regardless of its form, and this was absolutely delicious. Tossed in a sweet spicy garlic and coriander sauce, then finished with fried basil, this dish excited all my taste buds! We took home a few pieces as leftovers and I gobbled them up the same day as part of my dinner. So good! Finally, we shared plate of Chicken Drunken Noodles ($16). The wide rice noodles were a little on the soft side as opposed to having that chewy bite, but between the chicken and medley of tomatoes, onion, sweet basil and bell peppers, this was a really tasty dish. Along with Bangkok Chicken, I ordered the noodles at the mid-spice level of three stars. I'm a fan of heat, but after taking the first couple bites, I realized I would have been perfectly content with two stars. They take their heat seriously here - be aware! While the portion sizes are average, I'd consider pricing to be elevated compared to other Thai restaurants in general, but standard for this area of Bellevue. However, considering the scrumptious food and friendly timely service, treating ourselves to this meal was definitely worth it and a highlight of my week!

Yelp
Bird Pepper can be encapsulated by looking at their Pad Thai. The dish is ubiquitous among so many restaurants, and acts as a fantastic barometer for the general quality of the food served. At Bird Pepper the dish went above and beyond the standard faire, and had a character that was more complex than i would have expected. The smoky flavor made it stand out in my mind over many others. Similarly the other dishes had a depth of spiciness that actually enhanced flavor rather than simply being hot for hot's sake. The bar and drinks were visually impressive, however the value proposition just didn't gel for me. In contrast to the food, the drinks were expensive and i found lacking. The service was expedient, and this was just as dinner rush was coming in on a weekend. The design of the space itself is delightfully open despite the small space; the upstairs seating looking out over bay windows also lights the place well and give it an open vibe. I could see the place getting potentially noisy, but our crowd was quiet and respectful. Overall i enjoyed the experience and would happily return

Yelp
Love the ambience, the service was alright but very accommodating for what we needed for our big party and the number of high chairs we needed. The food was quite good compared to other Thai restaurants. Desserts were all delicious. Not pictured but still delicious: pineapple fried rice, shrimp fried rice, chicken Phan Thai.

Yelp
Here's essentially the sister restaurant of Bellevue Thai Kitchen. Prices are higher than average and consistent with what you expect from something entrenched in Bellevue Square. We sampled a wide variety of food. Favorites were the spring roll app, pad see ew and firecracker prawns. The disappointing items were the pad thai (too sweet and sugary), curry fried rice (would be better if the rice wasn't clumped), and Bangkok chicken (not memorable enough). Ambiance and service was nice, but food wise it's probably just good enough for the area.

Yelp
This place is so good every time and has a great happy hour deal! Food is super good and comes out quickly. I got the Bird Pepper Margarita which sounded really good, but the taste of cheap tequila really ruined the flavor. The food is so good I'm not bothered by the taste of the drink! Don't forget to ask for some extra pickled chili peppers on the side for extra heat and tang

Yelp
The food here was VERY good. Lots of great flavors. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the service. Service was a slow, even to just get drinks, then the entrees all came out at different times. However, again, food was good and I would certainly eat there again.
