Great Places in Spokane to Eat and Drink

"This longstanding Spokane Valley hole-in-the-wall has limited hours and frequently long wait times, but with good reason, as it is the area’s best kept secret for Thai food. Don’t be surprised if the owner doesn’t let you order from the menu; he often entreats newcomers and out-of-towners to just “trust him” and let him “make you the best.”" - Kris Kilduff

Google
Update: only offer take out I called 3 times, no answer, so ordered through google/square. It was a less than full menu... so i settled on the red curry. I ordered around 9:45 and my pick up time was noon. When I pulled up a super friendly woman came out, asked me my name and went in and got my order. It was packaged very neatly. I ordered a level 2 spice, and it packed a kick up front but not a lingering burn. More flavor than heat. For reference Frank's red hot or Buffalo wild wings mild is my preference. I feel like people who love really spicy food would love a 4 or 5 here. I thought the curry had good flavor, but find the whole ordering, get a time slot thing less than ideal. I guess it works for them. It also seems a little expensive for what it was, I guess I would prefer to sit down somewhere at this price point. If scarcity = quality, then the star rating here is deserved... you need to order lunch at 9am... for pickup after 11am, they stop answering their phone by 11.

I LOVE Thai Kitchen! Anytime I’m asked about Thai food, I say that the best I’ve ever had is in Spokane Valley! Now that I live out of the area I don’t get to have their food like I want. I’m so excited that they are taking take-out orders so that now that I’m coming in to town to visit, I’m able to have my favorite Thai food! Paul and his family were always very nice and welcoming. The food is absolutely phenomenal!!

Google
Drive up only, and the food is amazing. We love this family-owned and run business. Owner Paul visits with us while his wife cooks the food. 15 minute wait to the best Thai food in town!

Google
Wow!!! Thai heaven! Today I ordered a carry out for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. We like oriental and thai food and tried many different places around here, but the TASTE of Thai Kitchen was totally different then everything we have tried before in a good way! We had chicken satay, pad thai and 2 dishes with shrimp and everything was different and delicious in its own way.

Google
For over 10 years Thai Kitchen has been a favorite of mine. My family and friends have enjoyed Paul and his family's dedication to delicious food and a great experience. Every dish is "The Best!" ❤️

Google
Hands down the BEST Thai food this side of Thailand! Paul, Benji, and Melissa provide an unforgettable culinary experience with their combination of customer service and authentic Thai cuisine. I've sampled many items on the menu and have never walked away disappointed. My latest try was the Salmon Curry and it was absolutely phenomenal! Thai Kitchen is a true gem!

Google
Called right around 11 today, and received a call back quickly, they do recommend ordering earlier because they generally sellout. But you can always order a day ahead! We ordered 4 different entrees, chicken satay, and the dumplings everything was great. We found the noodle dishes a little drier than other restaurants but still delicious, the dumplings were a huge hit with kids. We will definitely be ordering again.

Google
Hands down the best Thai food any where! The best family, service & amazing food 😋💖 We have loved their food since the early 90’s. Every dish is filled with flavor & family love. This is definitely a destination stop in Spokane 💝

Yelp
It is refreshing to find a restaurant that actually takes pride in its food. It shows. Exquisite panang and flavorful red curry. Every noodle dish is great. We are working our way through the menu - the whole family has visited 3 times in the past 10 days. I have been a fan of Thai food for 40 years. It is great to have an authentic family Thai restaurant only 25 minutes from our home. Thank you !

Yelp
I thought I would never like a pad thai as much as I would like the pad thai from my college years, and yet somehow I found it in a takeout-only restaurant in the middle of Spokane Washington after a trip to Glacier National Park. This place is takeout-only for now, so either call ahead to order or be a little patient waiting in the car. They were very nice and sent someone out to our car to take our order and gave us a cold thai coffee as well while we waited. They were quick to make the dishes and also came out to hand it to us in the car. We got two pad thais and one bbq pork fried rice and both were so good. The dishes were freshly made, the pad thai noodles soft but chewy and delicious with the peanut sauce, the bbq pork fried rice also well made with each individual rice kernel coated with egg. If I lived in the area, you bet this would be a place that I'd be frequenting. For now, I guess I'll just obsess about the pad thai here and tell everyone I know about my trip to Glacier and the pad thai that I found at the end of it

Yelp
This rating is not based on the food, because we couldn't get any. It is based strictly on the business, which they are obviously having difficulty running. We like Thai food, read good reviews, have tried most others in Spokane and Spokane Valley, so drove about 15 miles to try them for lunch, TWICE. The first time was on a Tuesday. We encountered a sign on the door saying closed. Thought that was an unusual day for closing, but there we were. Yesterday (Thursday), drove there again. Two cars in parking lot was bad sign. When we got to the front door, locked, another handwritten sign read that they are CLOSED FOR SIT DOWN, and are now only doing takeout. We are a little particular in wanting fresh, hot food served at a table rather than warm or cold food transported in a cardboard or styrofoam box. I would guess that the prices are not lower but will never know. I do understand that 90+% of restaurants and businesses do not even try to update info about hours or anything else about themselves updated online, but if you prefer takeout, cold (not freshly made) and go to the effort of driving to them, I recommend calling, first. Who knows what other changes there might be (or if the number is still in service).

Yelp
We love Thai Kitchen. We are frequent flyers of this establishment. We always call ahead a day before to place an order or early if it's going to be day of. They only current do pick up from my understanding. We always get the pad see ew and and the mussamen curry. They spice levels are SPICY which is nice because they have a 5 level scale. Normally I get a 2 or 3 and same along with my husband and its the best flavor. Sometimes I order chicken dumplings or spring rolls. Both are delicious and cooked to perfection. Crisp outside layer and juicy filling in the middle. When the mango sticky rice is in season, that is also a very fun fish to order. Very sweet and fun dessert to finish up a meal. They are very organized at pick up and stick to a schedule. This is our favorite go to place for lunch take out! Happy to support this local business.

Yelp
Have been going to Thai Kitchen for close to 20 years. Always great food and perfectly spiced. Really enjoy the fact that they're doing takeout now. We're able to get lunch more often.

Ella TS Q.

Yelp
We were never seated. Stood by the door at the "wait to be seated" sign for a few minutes. It was mostly empty except the bar. Bartender kept looking at us, but didn't say anything.

Bri K.

Yelp
Unsure why people are so pressed about this restaurant being take out only... it's been this way for a couple of years now... but- I will say this place is THE best Thai restaurant in Spokane. They've been around over 33 years, and continuing on strong. I've been coming here since I was a kid with my family, and I can assure you, that the taste of the food is CONSISTENT. Consistency is very important... this place is TAKE OUT ONLY... you HAVE to call and place and order due to HIGH VOLUME of orders. :) 11am IS the cut off time because there's literally two people cooking while one is trying to run the orders out at the same time. I order quite often- almost every week.. overall, 10/10

Yelp
Drove 20 minutes to this place only to find out they are closed, place looks abandon, when I looked in the window it was a mess. I called and the recording is incredible, they only take orders at certain time and there is a minimum and a time cut off, never seen such a thing. Don't waste you time driving to the place and if you call you get no answer and can't leave a message. Not sure we're the five stars come from because it's impossible to order.

Asdrubal L.

Yelp
The absolute best Thai food around! The owners are so friendly and always provide great service.

Yelp
Im not sure what the story is with this place, but they are never open. I just called to order food for pick up, (12:04pm) and they said the had openings at 1:45 and 2:00pm.... for pickup\togo? Reservations for to go orders? Two hours later??? No website, and their phone goes to a "MagicJack" cheap connection. Went to Our Thai House on Hamiltoin and it was AMAZING.

Yelp
If you know good Thai food, you know good Thai food and this is where you get your Thai food. I grew up spoiled in Southern California with lots of great restaurants at my finger tips. However, moving to Spokane has definitely increased my gratitude for the food I did have back home until I found this place. My only go-to place for legit Thai food! You will not be disappointed, take it from a food snob, yours truly.

Honest F.

Yelp
So disappointed. Attempted to visit per website hours. They were closed. Called and they are open for take out orders only. Orders usually close by 11am?

Margaret C.

Yelp
The best Thai food ever. Paul and his daughter are such kind and wonderful people and the food is amazing. I've been to a couple Thai places here and in California and I have to say hands down this is my favorite.
google avatar

Mel C.

Yelp
Thank you Yelp for continuously telling me this place was nearby because it was soooo boooomb! We met the lovely Paul who was so accommodating and adorable. He suggested the dumplings and Oh. Em. Gee. those babies were so freaking tasty! I ordered the Pad Thai, which is the only thing I ever order. Its my favorite Thai dish. The sweetness of the peanut sauce & the spiciness from whatever Thai spice they use all melded perfectly to create one special dish. Somehow Thai Kitchen made the already delicious Pad Thai evvvvven more delicious. I am so happy to report that Thai Kitchen is the tastiest tasty Thai place around.
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant, food is always high quality and made from scratch. Paul is always super nice and the two ladies in the kitchen are so sweet and nice. Our favorites are red curry and basil and chili, prawns in a blanket, and spring rolls. We haven't came across a meal we didn't like here.
google avatar

Kenna L.

Yelp
This place is true authentic Thai food. I had the spicy basil fried rice and it was the best I've ever had and I've lived in LA and travel everywhere. My friend had their massaman curry and it reminded me of the curry I've had in Thailand. Paul, the owner is absolutely fantastic and his customer service skills and satisfaction far exceed most places. I can't recommend this place enough!
google avatar

Tasha R.

Yelp
Always so happy to go back! Paul is so great with the kids and the best part is the food is ALWAYS consistent and delicious! He's so fun to talk to. Thank you for the amazing service and BEST food!

Yelp
We're not from Spokane so I found this place via Yelp and all the five star reviews. I did not read the reviews but if I had I would have known it was going to be an extremely long wait for our food. After being seated and waiting for at least fifteen minutes to even look at a menu, I started to put things together- framed news articles reviewing the restaurant were titled things like "Worth the wait". Ah, I get it now. We're in for a wait. The owner was also our waiter and he is a sweet person. He repeatedly told us how many years he'd been in business, that their food was the absolute best and it really set up expectations. Expectations like that can create disappointment. The food wasn't bad, it was decent. After the wait, I was certainly hungry. I ordered four stars spicy and it was more around a one or two star. It also bugs me whenever I order curry and have to also order rice at a separate charge- since when does anyone eat curry alone? The owner is a nice man. My understanding is that his wife is the chef and bless her, it's hard work and she's a good cook. The BEST Thai ever? That's a tall claim and tough to live up to. However, I'm not a Spokane local so maybe it's the best Thai food in that city. The wait was long to look at a menu, then to order and then again to receive our food- the owner was the only server and he is friendly and likes to chat with each table. Decent but not the best ever... add in an unusually long wait to boot. Not really worth it unless it's the only Thai around for miles and the craving is strong.

Yelp
Wow, this place is incredible. Having traveled many times to Thailand and know good authentic Thai food this was the best I've ever had stateside. I'll be returning here sooner than later as I already am craving the freshness of the food. The owners are amazingly nice and give great advice for first timers on what to expect. Paul and his wife are one of a kind!
google avatar

Yelp
Best Thai in Spokane. Paul is wonderful and friendly. His wife makes amazing food. Highly recommend this restaurant. To go only during covid. Order early very popular place. Great small business.

Yelp
My family stopped for lunch at the Thai Kitchen today at 11:45 am on the way to the airport (for a 3:00 pm flight). We were fairly quickly seated and provided drinks. Our food order was taken fairly quickly (at about 11:55 am). I was starting to get frustrated at 12:40 when other parties we arrived with seemed to be receiving their food orders but ours had not yet arrived. At 12:50 I told one of the waitresses that we needed our food immediately because we had a flight to catch. After some scurrying on the part of the staff, we left the restaurant at 1:05 without our food (so that we could make our flight). Although I hadn't realized it, my daughter who was seated across from me noticed that 2 or 3 parties came in after us, were served, and left before us. There was no fathomable excuse for this incredibly slow service (I did not become short with the wait staff until we had been waiting for an hour. I will never return to this restaurant and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
Man! Paul is THE MAN! I always let him pick my order because literally EVERYTHING is delicious! You want authentic Thai food? This is where you'll find it!
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
Great food at this family run restaurant. The server [I believe he was the owner) was full of hospitality and humor. We went during the busy lunch hour, the place was almost full and service was a little slow. We were not in a hurry and the Pad Thai made up for it. Best I have ever had! I will be back next time I am in Spokane Valley.
google avatar

Pauline F.

Yelp
Come when this place opens, because the restaurant will get packed with Paul's regulars by 5:30 and your wait for food will jump from 10 minutes to 30-40 minutes. Paul knows practically every patron by name since he's been here since 1990. He's a cute old man who's super friendly and wants to make sure you enjoy his wife's delicious cooking. He'll take your order, recommend his favorites, and be the one who serves your food to make sure he tells you this is the best dish ever! Haha! We ordered the pad thai with chicken; it was delicious and has a nice peanuty sauce on the side. It had more bean sprouts than anticipated. My fiancé also really enjoyed their Thai dumplings... crispy on the outside, and skin was not too thin nor too thick. I'm not sure if they make it on premise though, but it wasn't bad. All in all, I'll likely be coming back again soon to try his other dishes!

Yelp
Probably the best Thai food I can find in Spokane. If you like strong flavored Thai food, then this is the place for you. It's definitely on the pricy side (~$15/person). The owner, Paul, may give you good recommendation but sometimes he doesn't tell you if there's added price. Therefore, you have to assume everything the server gives is not free. Ask how much it costs before they give you tea or rice.
google avatar

Aimee N.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Highly recommend trying their food. The only thing that sucks is their hours of operation. It could be a little more flexible.
google avatar

Stephen H.

Yelp
A can't miss Thai restaurant in the Spokane Valley, Thai Kitchen's food is delicious and the proprietor is charming and infectious. I've eaten here several times and you pretty much can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It all explodes with authentic flavor, is crafted with care, and leaves the mass produced meals of other area Thai restaurants in the dust. There are a few things to keep in mind when visiting: 1) They do not do takeout. Period. He'd rather focus on the guests in the restaurant and the quality shows. 2) They get busy. If you are planning on lunch, call ahead for a reservation around 10:30 AM. I know it sounds like a pain, but the food makes it all worthwhile.
google avatar

Rusty S.

Yelp
It's funny, I had the opposite experience as most everyone else. I stopped in a little after 11am and had my food within 10 min of ordering. Service was fine, very friendly. But the food was mediocre at best. Had massaman curry and pad Thai. Both were way too sweet and tasted like they used little to no fish sauce. Definitely caters to the generic honkey palate, which is why I'm not surprised so many people think it's the best in town. I was especially disappointed with the curry. Watery and made with red potatoes, which gave it a weird taste. I respect that people like this place and have been going there for a long time, blah blah blah. But if you haven't gone yet and you're looking for something special and/or authentic, skip it. Generic and sugary is what you're gonna get.
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
Excellent service. Tasty food. Satisfactory portions. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too expensive. $8 to $10 meal was $20. Absurd! I would not come back due to price. Unfortunate because food and service was good.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Fantastic food and will definitely come back. Not recommended if in a hurry, but some of the best Thai I've had and worth the extra time for their attention to detail!

Grant C.

Yelp
This is easily the best Thai Restaurant in Spokane and that I've ever eaten at. Authentic Thai. I've eaten here 10-12 times and have never had a meal that I would rate less than 5 stars. I'm not a spicy eater so I go with 1-2 stars but the flavor is amazing. Sometimes, Paul tells me to pick a meat and he will make an amazing entree and I've never disappointed. He is such a character and offers great service. Love this place! Recommendations: Salmon curry Panang curry Tom yum soup Chicken special
google avatar

Yoga B.

Yelp
The best Thai food in Spokane. Everything is homemade and well worth the wait. The friendly service makes you feel like family.
google avatar

Larry J.

Yelp
Small building, attentive owner, very friendly. Food was excellent. We were early for lunch so the wait was not long like some have indicated.
google avatar

Josh W.

Yelp
Tried going here like ten times but it's been impossible. I don't care what the reason is - no restaurant should close for a month. I realize for a family-owned restaurant work-life balance is important but in my opinion this is too much.
google avatar

Brooke C.

Yelp
What a great experience! Such a nice server and great food! We had dumplings to start and the server recommended a green sauce they have on their spice tray and it was phenomenal and the perfect amount of spice! For our meal we shared pork fried rice and pad see ewe. It was the best we've had since we left the LA area. Spicy, and well balanced fried rice. Rich and indulgent pad see ewe. We will come back again and again.
google avatar

Darwin H.

Yelp
The service was friendly enough but the portions were very small, the smallest portions I'd ever been served in a Thai restaurant. The taste was just average to a little below average The wrong noodles where used in the pad thai, slow service in that once food was dropped off he never refilled our water or came back to the table. I was charged for rice even though I didn't order it and the old restaurant trick of not showing up at your table after dropping off the check until you get up to leave so he doesn't have to make change as I was paying cash. So they got a bigger tip. Will not be returning to this restaurant as it was below average in just about everything
google avatar

Gael T.

Yelp
This is the best place to go for authentic Thai food. The dumplings with the green sauce they had in the spice rack was amazing. We also had Pad Si Ewe and the BBQ Fried Rice which was both great! I would definitely come back again and again. You can really tell how great the quality and authenticity the food has. It's just a plus that the owner was really friendly. Great food and great service.

Anna H.

Yelp
This is the best Thai around. We have lived everywhere from Europe to Asia and would try Thai food in each place and this is hands down the best. The veggies and meat are so fresh. Nothing is ever frozen. Paul is a delight and will give the best recommendations. He serves us something different every time and it is fabulous. My husband asked for prawn and squid and what he came out with was nothing short of AWESOME. And let me just say peanut sauce.....oh my word the peanut sauce!! Be ready to lick you plate.
google avatar

Megan E.

Yelp
My family has been coming here for decades, along with family friends and neighbors. If you have anything short of a 5 star review I'm taking it personally, best place ever!
google avatar

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
Took my mom for her first try of thai. So fantastic. Great service and food. Worth every minute of the wait
google avatar

Trent L.

Yelp
Best food in Spokane. Only wish I could expand the hours. Always delicious, Paul is the best. Service takes a while but it's so worth it. Literally everything on the menu is great.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. Always excellent food. Paul and Benji, The Thai couple that own the place are super nice. Order Thai tea or coffee. Try the soups, pad thai, curries, or house specialties; all awesome. We regularly get pad thai, jungle curry, tum yum soup, moo tod, and squid.
google avatar

RJ E.

Yelp
Amazing. It's incredible that this place is in Spokane Valley. A hidden gem. You must call and order ahead but it's well worth it. The owner is always willing to make sure he gets it right for you and will make any dish veggie friendly. I'll be very sad when they retire one day.
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
Great food and great service. Would come again. We ordered the pad Thai and red curry. Full of flavor and good portions.

Jim R.

Yelp
The best Thai. I let him decide what to order for me and it was delicious, every time. You have to make a reservation to get a seat on most days as they are only open 3 or 4 hrs a day. The best Thai in Spokane! Go you will not be disappointed. Careful with the spice, unless you are like me and love it that way.
google avatar

Austin F.

Yelp
The hours are slim but you will not be disappointed in the quality and freshness of the food. The waiter/owner/husband, Paul, is very kind and does an amazing job recommending dishes. He came up with a Honey Beef and a Sweet Panang Curry that were balanced, complex, and unique. The rice was fragrant and was a blend of red jasmine, white jasmine, and brown rice. Service was wonderful and the food came out in a timely manner. We will definitely come back bringing family to experience this!

Suanne T.

Yelp
Paul and Benji serve the best Thai food in town. cooked from scratch. with Benjis own hands. Love their little place. Not a disappointment.
google avatar

Vincent J.

Yelp
Hands down the best Thai food in town. Quality of the protein and vegetable is great - tender and fresh. The flavor is amazing. I deduct a star for the following reasons: a bit pricey for the portion that you get; rice not included in dishes that's normally served with it - you pay extra on top of what's already overpriced; and it's a time sink as it's impossible to get lunch there in an hour.
google avatar

Bob S.

Yelp
It's not often you have the owner working the front and making sure that you have everything you need. Can't say enough great things about our experience. The owner (Paul, I believe) was incredibly respectful to my wife, gave us great recommendations and was extremely attentive. I can see why he has such a loyal following. One of the best restaurant experiences we've ever had. The food was quality, cooked perfectly and the sauces delicious. Pot stickers, and our pork and chicken dinner dishes were excellent. My curry with the pork dish was smooth and had just the right amount of spice for me. Love the wild rice that came with it, a nice twist on just handing out white sticky rice. If you are visiting Spokane, it's worth the trip. They are only open certain hours, and not on weekends - so plan ahead to avoid any frustrations - because it is worth it.
