Things to Do This Weekend in Boston | Eater Boston

"A Thai and Japanese hybrid marking its one-year anniversary with celebration specials that spotlight spicy country pad Thai and a signature deep-fried sushi roll filled with eel, avocado, and cream cheese—dishes that reflect a playful, flavor-forward approach to pan-Asian comfort food." - Nathan Tavares

This is one of the best thai food places I ever been to. This is hidden gem. Spicy Udon noodles, pad thai, maki were so fresh and hot. Their spring rolls are fresh, crispy and not oily at all. I really recommend this place, parking is just next to this place for 2 hrs.

It was a pleasant dining experience. We had dinner with my uncle and the gentleman who welcomed us was very courteous and sympathetic. My uncle is unable to consume cold beverages and I inquired if he could bring his tumbler with him, and he kindly accommodated our request and served my uncle an additional glass of warm water. We greatly appreciated this gesture, and notably, their cuisine was exquisite. We discovered this establishment a year ago, after having dinner elsewhere, and were seeking dessert. Our favorite was the mango sticky rice with coconut milk, which was exceptional. They offer an array of delectable sushi rolls and bento boxes at lunch, in addition to their other delicious main courses. Nourishing food wonderful people with kind hearts. 😋

Excellent service. Food tasted great! Pad Thai, Seaweed Salad, and Celtic Roll :)

Google
I’m so happy this place opened up. My two favorite types of food, Sushi & Thai food in one place. This is a dream come true and Thai Oishi does both so well… Their Pineapple Fried Rice with Duck (in the photo) was incredible. The Sushi is also delicious. I’m also a huge fan of their Thai Iced Tea. The Green Tea cake was also good and I enjoyed the texture, but it does have a bit of a strong after taste. I hope they add more dessert options down the line. I will admit, the Pad Thai could use a little more flavor. The Takoyaki was yummy! Overall I already love this place. I love the location and the staff is awesome. Excellent service. I will be coming here very often and will bring more friends and family with me.

Google
Excellent food and service! The highlight for me was tomyum soup. It was so flavorful and delicious. Papaya salad was great but it burned my tongue from every bite. I’m not sure if they could adjust the heat since i never asked for that. Volcano hotate tasted great and nice presentation, there were some seafood mix in as well. The food was generous on portion size and not too expensive either.

We were in the Dorchester area and stopped in for lunch at Thai Oishi. We were Greeted by a Friendly Hostess who seated us immediately. Our Waitress was helpful with the menu questions and choices . Appetizers and Entrees: Gyoza 😋(deep fried pork dumplings), 😋Scallion Pancake, Unagi, 😋 Dragon Roll, 😋Beef Pad Thai, Num Tok Moo, 😋and Pork Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen 😋 everything was Tasty and Yummy 😋. The Service was Excellent 👍. Highly Recommend Thai Oishi! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Google
Went here today around afternoon time. :) Amazing food and amazing service. Everyone is a total sweetheart! The food is perfect proportion. The sushi is definitely worth it! Thick slices! I got drunken noodles and definitely flavorful and worth it. It had perfect proportions of everything (meat, noodles, and veggies). The dumplings were soft and flavorful and the sauce helped add more flavor to it. The papaya salad had a variety and very good. Good proportion of miso soup for a good price. I loved the Thai tea also. The servers were attentive and nice. The cooks/chefs/etc were timely. Definitely give this restaurant a chance if you never gone here before. I might have lived close but today was my first time. This will be one of my new go-tos. Check the pics of the dishes out!

Google
Visited here for dinner with family on a Monday evening. Overall, the service was fast and attentive, and the food was well presented and yummy. I would recommend and look forward to returning 😊 Thank you for being a great local business in Dorchester 🙏🏼🌹😁

Yelp
Massive pieces of fish! If you have a small mouth, you need to take the sushi is two bites! The fish is good quality and they don't skimp on it. Loved the huge sushi pieces and the freshness of the fish. The Crying Tiger Steak was a disappointment. Not sure if it was the quality or the cooking method. I would not order again. Country Pad Thai was so good. I liked that alot. One of the better Pad Thai dishes I've had. Most places make it too sweet, I guess for Westerners. I do love a spicy one. Salmon Zaab was really great as an appetizer. Would order that again. Come for the Thai food and stay for the huge sushi! I can't say enough good things about the sushi here. Service was pretty good. The inside of the place is small and quaint. I can't recall.. but maybe 8 or so tables.

Yelp
Cozy small place.friendly staff and parking was close.Good service for to go. Love the curry and sushi . Need to dine in for sure to try the rest.

LaRay A.

Yelp
EVERYTHING HAS BEEN 10/10!! The lobster and snow crab sushi rolls are sooooo good! I literally reward myself almost once a week with either roll. Worth every penny.

Mike J.

Yelp
Traveling across town and found this place by searching Thai on yelp. Food was amazing. Server was super attentive and helpful. The dining room was quaint with a holiday tree glowing in the corner. Plenty of food left over for lunch the next day. We will be back!

Yelp
I was blown away by this place. I tried it via Uber eats for the 1st time and the food was 10 out of 10. This will be my go-to place for sushi now and I'm so happy it's in my neighborhood. * See my pic for my order

Yelp
We are big sushi lovers and often shop around different places when we have a craving. This BY FAR has been my favorite place we've gone. Everything we ate tasted very fresh. I typically hate when people put fruit in things but the berry crab rangoons were delicious. All of the rolls are good but you absolutely HAVE to get the white dragon roll. We will be back here anytime we have another craving.
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
The best Drunken Noodle! Always fresh, packed with veggies, and the perfect spice level
google avatar

Mishael T.

Yelp
Food was very good. Took a bit longer than expected to how late it was but was fine. Would come back again for a late night dinner
google avatar

Devin V.

Yelp
Ordered in and got the tom kha soup and the alaska maki! Both were absolutely delicious, however, the tom kha was slightly over-sweet, likely a different recipe with more coconut sugar than I am used to, but delicious otherwise. Would easily order again for the maki rolls!

Angelena

Yelp
these people are crooks. I ordered Thai yellow curry with shrimp and brown rice. I got my rice and it was three scoops of rice in the box. the iced tea wasn't even a half a cup more like a quarter cup. They are crooks! When I went back, he gave me the same three scoops of rice and told me that I asked for no ice so that's all they could give me.. NEVER AGAIN!

Yelp
I was super excited to try this place. Thai Oishi is literally only a 5 minute drive for me. We got there around 2:55pm. Noticed that they're offering a lunch menu til 3pm. We asked if they're still doing lunch, they said yes. I've been to a lot of places where they'll say no because the order isn't put in yet and then lunch would end. Positive vibes already! Service was amazing because our waiter was pretty down to earth and accommodating. Very pleasant and friendly . Love that! I ordered the chicken katsu bento box off the lunch menu $12.95. It comes with salad, soup, two piece California roll, and two piece gyoza. Chicken was covered with a nice Mayo sauce served over a bed of ice berg lettuce. Chicken was crispy and good. The salad was dressed with something that I could not figure out. I was hoping for a ginger dressing. The gyoza was amazing and crispy. TIP - ask for their spicy Mayo for your sushi and gyoza. Their spicy Mayo was so good. We also ordered the pad Thai off the lunch menu. We requested for it to be spicy. The pad Thai was definitely really good. I haven't had a good pad Thai in awhile. I'll definitely come back if I'm craving for pad Thai. Pad Thai off the lunch menu also comes with gyoza and miso soup. We tried their Volcano Hotate Hokkaiyaki $14.99. I'll be very honest, I was not a big fan of it. Very nice presentation and all but the flavor was just a little different for me. I tasted a lot of butter and some sort of sweet chilli sauce. I'll probably wouldn't get that again. Overall, food and service today was amazing. I'll definitely come back and try different Thai dishes . Definitely have to try their crying tiger beef dish . I definitely recommend trying this place! Such a plus for a local neighborhood restaurant .

Yelp
I was planning to dine in but plan changed, ended up take-out. It is slow compared to other local sushi restaurants that I ordered. I ordered the Cloudy Salmon, Volcano Hotate Hokkaiyaki, Be On Fire Shrimp, Thai Oishi Roll, White Dragon Roll, and Snow Crab Leg Roll. All taste good and have strong seasoning, which I am not a big fan of. Now I realize outside all the Thai crossover with Japanese restaurants, the food tastes strong, and bland is not in their dictionary. This place reminds me of Thai Bar Shi in Weymouth. I will try their Thai food next time.
google avatar

Katy D.

Yelp
I don't know what the hype is, but I had an excruciatingly underwhelming experience here. The crispy pad Thai had zero flavor, the calamari was overcooked and was more rubbery than the tires on my car, and the Tempura vegetables were still basically raw. They are supposed to blanch them so they are a little more tender but keep their color. I also ordered shrimp shumei and got greasy egg rolls. The food was so unpalatable, over cooked, and just an abomination. Hard pass for me!
google avatar

Shaun L.

Yelp
Finally a sushi restaurant in the fields corner area! This is a welcome addition to the area as most establishments are either pizza shops or Vietnamese restaurants. Come here for the special rolls and Thai food. I wouldn't recommend the basic sushi, it was fine but nothing spectacular. I think the special rolls are more interesting. If you are going to dine in, I suggest either parking near the post office and walk or go to the public lot on adams street.
google avatar

Yutin Z.

Yelp
The Thai tea here, the gyzoa, and the portion sizes are great especially for a lunch special, however the entree itself was just alright. I ordered the green curry with chicken lunch special. The chicken was a bit dry and the curry was a bit too thick and salty for me.
google avatar

C F.

Yelp
Sushi was OK; some pieces didn't taste fresh. The sweet & chili duck was fine. The Volcano Hotate Hokkaiyaki is served sizzling hot; it was fun to order and fun to eat. Nice ambiance and good service but the food was only OK overall so I probably won't be back. Love that they have bento box specials, though we didn't partake this time.

Yelp
Great experience at Thai Oishi. Fast easy service. Nice place to sit down and have a bite with a friend or solo. The yaki udon had great texture and flavor. Definitely worthy of five stars because nothing was missing from this experience!!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little restaurant in the heart of Dorchester. Surprised that they do Thai and sushi, we tried both in one sitting and everything was terrific. Service was fast and attentive. Will be going back for sure.

Yelp
I was super excited to learn that a sushi place had finally opened up in Dorchester. It's about time! While I was initially skeptical of a place serving both Thai and sushi, the food at Thai Oishi did not disappoint. I've had a lot of sushi around Boston and this place easily competes with the best of them for a very reasonable price. I'm so glad I no longer have to drive all the way to Quincy to get decent sushi at a sit down restaurant. My family went here on a Friday night and was able to get seated right away. The restaurant is recently renovated and doesn't get too busy given the area so you're able to just chill and chat with your party without much trouble. For food, my party had their volcano hotate hokkaiyaki which you should not skip. We also had their TO ball which had some melt in your mouth seared salmon and was also super yummy. For sushi - I loved the dragon roll and scallop roll here. The scallop roll was AMAZING. It was a favorite for not just me but others in my party also loved it. My family's already trying to figure out when to come back here. We were told that they were getting their liquor license soon which we're very much looking forward to (hot sake with sushi anyone)?

Yelp
Im so surprised this is the '#1' for the mapped area! I've never had such a disappointing meal from # 1! The seafood option for the crispy pad Thai Had 1 shrimp, 1 cube of squid, 1 scallop(maybe 2?) & 2 mussels. It was 94% a pile of cold crisp noodles, that tasted like they were from a package. The flavoring sauce was terrible. Very sweet server though!
google avatar

Naia L.

Yelp
First time at Thai Oishi and i would definitely go back. Best part was the service, everyone was so friendly, helpful and quick. I ordered a few apps as a meal and liked most of them. Calamari, salmon shashimi, plus shared wings and avocado salad with a friend. one thing i didn't like was the calamari; it had a heavy batter and no sauce to go with it. My sashimi tasted very fresh but my friend ordered a rainbow roll and didn't like it; said it tasted dry and wasn't sure all the fish on it (diff than usual rainbow roll) . I would ho back to try the thai food though, saw plates delivered to neighboring table that smelled/looked yummy

Kianah E.

Yelp
the food was terrible. it was flavorless and dry. the wings were mostly fat and crust. the cups were dirty. overall not a place i would go back to. if i had it in me, i wouldve asked for the food to be sent back and left right then and there.

Yelp
First time trying this restaurant out. Overall, our experience was good. It is Clean, the waitresses were attentive. The food was good as well. I liked everything I tried. The price was also reasonable. If you are looking for something low key with tasty food in Dorchester give this place a try. Would go back.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
food is delicious and the staffs are friendly. Clean establishment. I enjoyed everything I ordered.
google avatar

Sunmee P.

Yelp
There's a lot of street parking near the restaurant and a 2 hr parking lot nearby. Ambiance - Quiet, but we came on a Wednesday night. Service - We had a reservation and they already had the table set before we came in. She checked on our waters often and was very fast and attentive. Food - would definitely recommend the Cloudy Salmon. The sushi/sashimi tasted fresh in general. Some sushi restaurants will try to put a bunch of rice to fill people up on their nigiri. but the amount of rice they gave with the surf clam nigiri was half of what we were expecting. The special rolls we got were huge. We were expecting smaller portions and couldn't finish it all. Definitely will be coming back!
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
Cute little spot with on point food. I had the hotate on the shell and it came up super pretty. I got a Thai noodle bowl and some other yummy dishes. Service is always really good. I've been here a few times and would recommend!
google avatar

Patrice R.

Yelp
The Food is delicious and customer service outstanding. They now serve wine, beer and sake? I believe. Its walking distance, so its great for local Thai food.
google avatar

Angie P.

Yelp
Has a wonderful experience dining here. Clean, open space. Loved the simple & functionality of the layout. Wait staff was attentive and took our orders right away. Sushi was delicious as well as the Pineapple Fried Rice.
google avatar

Gennie L.

Yelp
the food here is delicious! one dish to shout out is the volcano hotate hokkaiyaki ($14.95). the portion is quite small but the presentation is so cool. the dish is essentially baked octopus, crab stick and tobiko. we also got the takoyaki ($7.95)and pad see ew ($12.95). the portions for these dishes were generous - i could only finish half of the pad see ew. service was excellent - our waiter was nice and efficient. the food was prepared quickly. they did give us the wrong dish, but they ended up replacing it. there is a free parking lot a block away from the restaurant and street parking outside the restaurant. i would definitely come back to try their sushi and sashimi! overall rating: 9/10
google avatar

Panya A.

Yelp
We are supporting the good guys and excellent food. The sushi were so delicious and Nam Tok Moo as well. We will come back and try other menu!!! That's made my day..!
google avatar

Deanna B.

Yelp
Delicious sushi. I am partial to sushi tempura and there are a few options. I would recommend. My only qualm is that I wish it cost a little less but it is very tasty.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised. Great food and service. Best crab Rangoon's around. My salmon dish was amazing and my wife loved her crispy chicken.

Michelle C.

Yelp
My family and I came here for dinner tonight. The staff were friendly, the restaurant was nice and clean with a nice peaceful atmosphere. The Chicken Pad Thai was delicious. My six year old is a picky eater and she ate a ton. Love the spring rolls they have a little kick to them, crispy and delicious! Last but not least the scallion pancakes were delicious. They have nice dipping sauces too. Can't wait to come back! Hats off to chef and the rest of the staff.

Warren M.

Yelp
This place is gas. The ramen, the sushi, the thai food is all top notch and when you order their ramen to-go they put it in this special packaging that keeps the ingredients separate and everything warm. Also their desserts are fire, my old lady and I frequent this spot for date nights. 10/10
google avatar

Audrey M.

Yelp
This place is so good!! We ordered crispy spicy tuna roll, kappa maki, scallop lava roll and the yaki udon. We've also had the chicken pad Thai which is amazing! The Island Circle appetizer is so good and beautiful presented! Everything was delicious! The service is so great everything comes out so fast! Best sushi spot in Dorchester!
google avatar

Yana R.

Yelp
SO GOOD! I think this is one of the few/one of the only sushi places in Dorchester. We came here on a date night and had the Crispy Chicken, Drunken noodle, the Red Sox roll, and Crispy Spicy Tuna-- just wow! This is by far my favorite sushi places in Boston. The menu was great and everything tasted and looked so good. Staff was extremely nice and attentive. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Aaron C.

Yelp
A bit sterile inside and in terms of the menu, but food was solid and seemed to use fresh ingredients. Great service
google avatar

Kyle S.

Yelp
First time visit--ducked in from work. Ordered the luncheon special for $10.95. Delicious miso soup and very crispy fried gyoza to start. Entre was chili basil with rice, which seemed indistinguishable (to this farang palate) from the various forms of pad kra pow that I often order when I don't know what exactly what I want. Everything was perfect, with friendly attentive wait staff. Fantastic addition to Dorchester. I also love Just Just Thai Kitchen 2 minutes away, but sometimes you just want to sit down and chill rather than do take out.
google avatar

Jesse N.

Yelp
I was super excited to find a new Thai restaurant has opened in my neighborhood! In an area full of Vietnamese offerings, Thai Oishi is a welcome addition! The restaurant itself is really bright and clean - very comfortable inside, especially since it was a bit chilly today. For food, we started out with a simple crispy spicy tuna which was delicious. The tuna was very fresh. We got the crispy fried chicken wings and sticky rice as well. For my entree, I kept it simple with a Crispy Chicken Pad Thai. The flavors were very balanced and the chicken was deliciously crispy. My girlfriend got the Braised Beef Noodle Soup and she loved it. The broth was tasty and the braised beef was so tender. Overall we were very happy with our meal and look forward to coming back again!

Katie B.

Yelp
This is such a pleasant retreat - soft jazz, a pretty space and absolutely delicious food. I have had great soups and excellent sushi here.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
Finally there is a fine Thai restaurant in Dorchester. Thai food is known as sweet, and sour. It can be addicted or boring if it's too sweet or too sour We went there today to try out, because their pictures look good and it's close to our place. This restaurant is recently opened so it is quite empty . The foods came out quickly and nice presentation. They are delicious, not too sweet or sour like other Thai restaurants that we tried out. The server is friendly and caring. Hope their restaurant will be packed and successful in the neighbor. We will come back to try their sushi soon
google avatar

Ganyaros C.

Yelp
The food is awesome. The staff are friendly and attentive. My favorite dish is volcano, papaya salad and boat noodle soup. I highly recommend it. you will not be disappointed. There is a lot of free street parking and also there is a parking lot next to it.

Meng R.

Yelp
So good that we went three times this week! We wanted to try both their Thai and Sushi menus and both did not disappoint. Super glad to have a solid sushi spot in Fields Corner and a sit down Thai restaurant (still love JTK for takeout but Thai Oishi has more options). First time went for lunch, got Pad Thai lunch special and Chicken Katsu lunch special. Great portions for price, and pad Thai was definitely better than JTK's! Wish their gyozas weren't so deep fried but overall fine for a lunch special! Also got the Moo Yang (pork shoulder) which was delicious with the sauce, and Fresh Limeade (yum!). Second time got sushi dinner: Dragon Roll, Snow Crab Leg Roll, Takoyaki app, and Spicy Sushi Combo. All excellent, great rice to filling ratio, solid chunks of avocado, plus takoyaki was perfectly fried outside and soft inside with octopus! Really fresh. Third time got Drunken Noodle and Green curry. No pics but both solid, and comparable to JTK. Big portions. Happy to return anytime for definitely Sushi and some Thai specialties!! Staff all super kind, ambience is great, and so grateful they joined Fields Corner!
google avatar

Catty R.

Yelp
I'm happy to have found this place the sushi was amazing . A lot of options can't wait to go back to try another menu.
google avatar

Thao T.

Yelp
Yummy foods. I went here on one of Sunday night, the place wasn't busy. They are located I'm right in Field Corner, easy to find parking around that area. They didn't have liquors but that's okie, but they pretty good sushi, sashimi, and many other things. Highly recommended if you looking for sushi place.
google avatar

Lindsay B.

Yelp
I love this restaurant, I will be back. Fresh dishes, huge portions, and excellent flavor. Looks upscale, feels professional.
google avatar

Hughes N.

Yelp
I usually don't have to wait for my order like some people claim slow service, it's a restaurant, the cook needs his time to cook, not a 3 minutes microwave meal for sad and bitter single. So don't be a coward and take it out on the servers or worst: post bad review online. With that out of the way, I highly recommend all of the chef's special thai menu. For appetizers: Crispy Soft Shell Crab, Volcano Hotate Hokkaiyaki (very fun to look at and take video for your Tiktok, Instagram...), Be On Fire Shrimp, and dare I say, Zaab French Fries. Don't just take my words for it, try the whole menu, be adventurous, try new things live a lot, defeat your boss, get out of the rat race. Have fun!
google avatar

Elsie A.

Yelp
The duck soup is a family fav, service is good polite staff and the ambiance simple but comfortable .
google avatar

Wm S.

Yelp
No Beer?Wine but food is off the charts. Sushi is fresh & perfectltly prepared as are the apps & Thai entrees.
