"For more than 14 years, the Vangyi family — Hmong Americans originally from Laos — have been sharing their love of spicy food from Southeast Asia with Petoskey residents. While the pad Thai and other noodle dishes are their best-selling menu items, regulars know to try the Tom Yum soup, cucumber salad, or fish curry. During the summer months, don’t miss the iced Thai tea or coffee. At press time, Thai Orchid remained committed to takeout only." - Stacey Brugeman

Overall, the food was good. Dinner portion sizes were quite large, we had leftovers. Had to wait quite a bit for a table. When we were seated, we found the service to be subpar. The waitress was rushed, didn’t welcome or answer any questions, and showed no signs of respect towards customers. Food was priced higher than the service and taste delivers. Overall, would only come back if no other options in the area were open.

Google
I was hoping to have a great dinner here with all the great reviews. When I arrived the lady seemed annoyed that I wanted to dine in so I ordered an appetizer which was decent for a fresh roll and pad Thai to go. Once I got back to the hotel it had zero flavor and no sauce was in the bag. 15 bucks for basically noodles.

Magnificent Smith

Google
Food is ok, panang curry is good but its too spicy , the server didnt ask the level of spiciness.. pad thai sucks ! This place has the worst pad thai.. taste is not pad thai at all.. chicken wings is good.. sweet and spicey.

Travis Galbraith

Google
Wonderful little shop in down town. Great spring rolls and crunchy rolls. Masman curry was full flavor and an excellent portion. Variable levels a spicy available which makes it great for all. We had chicken and vegetarian options. Park and eat, then enjoy the nice walk through the wonderful town of Petoskey.

Emily Lancaster

Google
Small portions without much flavor. The crab rangoon had very little filling, the pad thai was flavorless and the noodles were slimy, and the drunken noodles were sweet with very little sauce. It looks like the chicken and veggies were boiled, not cooked in a wok, and the food had no color to it.

Emily Boudreaux

Google
Not a lot of thai places around here so the the flavors were satisfactory. Customer service was good. Small portions though

Preston

Google
A hankering for Thai food? This place will do the trick. Crab wontons were good but to be fair, I don't think I've ever had a "bad" crab wonton. Pad Thai was also decent. Quote from Cornelius, "How do you like that! A place serving good Thai food this close to the Yukon, how can you go wrong?

Brian Helbert

Google
For the only Thai place around, it was decent. A bit bland, but my biggest gripe was the portions. WAY too small for the price. Easily half the amount you'd expect from a typical Thai restaurant. Will likely try it again, but TC might be the only option for proper Thai!

Ellen V.

Yelp
Dinner hours only I'm very picky w my Thai food but this place ain't all that bad. Gotta take into account that I stopped at a couple stores before eating but flavor is there. Chicken wings were still a bit crunchy too. The Thai chili sauce tastes good

Julie L.

Yelp
This is another place I tried during my visit. Again, the people were super nice but the shrimp fried rice had no flavor, why is that?

Lars F.

Yelp
The food was really good. The atmosphere was awesome. The service was friendly. I ordered the Crab Wontons. They were delicious. I also ordered the Lard Na. Ps I would go back there again, and order Drunken Noodles.

Curt C.

Yelp
Definitely in the top of the list of the best Thai food I've had anywhere! Small family business, wish they would bring back the soda fountain

Teemaree ..

Yelp
Cozy place with delicious and fresh tasting food. Sadly, the service from our waitress was not very good. We received a warm welcome from the host but found the server to be short in her answers when I asked about a sauce in the menu and really not accommodating. She dropped the bill without asking if we wanted anything else and we actually wanted to try their ice cream. The food quantifies the price they charge for their portion size but services does not. It should have been a nicer feel there.

Katelin H.

Yelp
Excellent every single time. Staff is very clear, efficient, & polite. Food is always hot, consistent & tasty. In a town flooded with pizza & burgers, I feel so lucky to have this option.

Catherine K.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place! Very cute/casual, nice people, and a great start regarding the food. Had a glass of wine, crispy spring rolls and Tom yum all which were excellent. Ordered one of the specials, orchid chicken which was a curry with veggies and lightly fried chicken breast in red curry sauce. Though it looked delicious, the breading on the chicken was EXTREMELY salty (And I like salt more than most people). I tried but just couldn't eat the chicken which was otherwise tender and beautifully cooked... Left the chicken behind and told the waitress who apologized but no mention of adjusting the price. Worth a look, but maybe DON'T order that particular dish...

Angie K.

Yelp
Just love having authentic food. I love their Thai orchid duck, not much places around here that sells duck or serves duck. Pleasant workers.

Jill S.

Yelp
Meh. Food is ok but they're never open and JUST opened inside limited seating. I'll take my money elsewhere where the food is just as good and they're open normal hours.

David A.

Yelp
Traveling on a golf trip, decided to get some Thai takeout. Food from this restaurant is some of the best I have ever eaten. Had Walleye Curry, Drunken Noodles with Beef, and the Seafood Combo. All succulent, perfect spicey heat and excellent textures. I'm going back for more!!

Christopher R.

Yelp
This place is absolutely fantastic! I love Thai food and this place delivers both quality and authenticity. My favorite item to order is the curry fried rice. It's absolutely delicious! This is the spot to go if you love Thai food!!

Nicholas A.

Yelp
Not my favorite Thai restaurant. The spiciness level was wonderful but the overall quality of the dishes wasn't good. I don't recommend.

Linda L.

Yelp
Good service good food will stop again when in town great relaxing atmosphere! Would recommend

Mike W.

Yelp
Called 11 times before someone answered. Placed an order and they said it would take 30 min. Been waiting for 50 min and still no food. No thanks.

Emily M.

Yelp
Takeout only right now: Hours Mon-Sat 3:30pm-8:30pm. We got takeout in July 2020 and it was great! Call in to order and then pick up. Food was good! Pad Thai Curry is the best!

John L.

Yelp
I'm a city dweller telling you this is as good of Thai/Asian you can get in Northern MI. Chicken Pad Thai Curry is addictive.

Jess H.

Yelp
Service was lacking significantly (speaking specifically of our server who was a female). Overcharged for protein and sauces. Mediocre Thai cuisine. Pad Thai and the Curry were on the sweet side, but okay. Small portions. Clean and nice ambiance. Not extremely impressed. We probably will not go back.

Sandy C.

Yelp
Always my favorite Thai spot and favorite spot to eat in Northern Michigan! Wish I could bring their food with me back to California. Great customer service, family owned, love everything about this place!

Sarah F.

Yelp
The food was excellent, but I am giving them a 3 for the portion size. The portions were half the size of any Thai food restaurant I have ever visited. Hubby ordered Pad Thai and I ordered drunken noodles. We always have food left over, usually enough for another meal, and frankly I could have eaten more. The dinner portion looked like a small lunch portion, without the accompanying soup and spring roll. Good food, and it seems to be popular because the line was out the door. Just don't come hungry!

Joel M.

Yelp
The last time I had Thai Orchid was probably 5+ years ago. I remember liking it, but not loving it. I am not sure what changed but this was some of my favorite Thai food I have ever had. I have had Thai in San Francisco, L.A. and Chicago and this hold it own against famous restaurants in these other locations. The Panang had plenty of that peanut curry flavor I crave but with a twist of more lemongrass (?) I was trying to put my finger on it, but it was sooo good. The Tom Ka soup had that tang that I love but with way more broth flavor than I am used to. It almost had a deep ramen broth flavor, which was amazing. The Pad Thai looks plain but it packed with flavor. We fed 2 families with what we ordered and it was a good value. Will be back!!

Ryan R.

Yelp
Whenever I call this place for carry out, I'm constantly put on hold. This last time I was on hold for 10 mins, recalled and put on hold for another 10 mins. Finally hung up for the second time and went elsewhere. They need to figure out their call in process.

Jordan S.

Yelp
Most authentic Thai food you can get in this areas. I'm from and born in Thailand and the foods here do remind me somewhat of home or at least what my family would make. Wonderful here and HIGHLY recommend the ice Thai tea.

Matthew C.

Yelp
Have had the take out for a few months now and all I can is....this place is amazing! Good portions and amazing food! They are prompt and have great prices!

Hanna E.

Yelp
Yes yes yesssss! For the area, this restaurant is top notch! Don't miss out on this great place. Always a reliable meal.

Dorothy S.

Yelp
One of our favorite Thai restaurants. Takeout only but food is still great. Both soups are really great. The house salad with ginger dressing was way too salty and I don't recommend it. Otherwise, curry pad Thai & Green Curry were amazing.

Nety P.

Yelp
About a month ago, I visited Petoskey in Michigan all the way from Chicago and tried Thai Orchid Cuisine because I was craving Thai food. By far, this place is one of my FAVORITE Thai restaurants. All of their dishes were really really good!!! The service was really great as well. If I visit Petoskey, I am definitely going back to this restaurant.

lucas k.

Yelp
Not accommodating at all, won't substitute anything. If you want to try and modify they tell you you have to buy a whole other meal to get what you want. For instance if you order a dish that comes with white rice and you want to get fried rice instead of white, you can't just upgrade to fried you have to buy a whole entrée portion of it.

Michael S.

Yelp
Absolutely amazed with how good this place is. The staff was very efficient and friendly, which I appreciate. I ordered the Crab Wonton as an appetizer, which was good on its own, but the house made plum sauce was spectacular. I've never had sauce that good before. The Kaw Pad with pork was excellent as well and was a good portion. The medium heat was perfect too. I was so impressed, we tried to stop in again another day during our stay, but there was a bit of a wait list, so we ended up going somewhere else. Highly recommend giving this place a try and can't wait to stop in again.

John W.

Yelp
They have amazing ambience and a super friendly staff. Superb tasting food and really liked the curry.

Kendie J.

Yelp
Horrible rude people!! I tried to ask about the status of my take out order and she snapped at me, refused to answer me and then helped everyone else, including those that came in after me. I still do not know where my order is!! Since I already paid I have no choice but continue to wait with no information!

Samantha S.

Yelp
This place is a thai staple in the community. The food is consistent, the atmosphere is intriguing, and we've never had a complaint. However, we went on a Monday night recently, and sat right near the busy front desk. It was apparent they were short-staffed because people were waiting for tables, others were coming in for pick-ups, and no one was available to help them. It felt like they were standing over our table the entire time which was unpleasant. The food was moderately priced for the portion sizes, and we will continue to come back!

Angela W.

Yelp
So good. Better than Thai food in Ann Arbor. We got Panang curry and pad Thai which were both delicious. I didn't love the drunken noodles so wouldn't get again. Very good with covid precautions

Angela L.

Yelp
I shared a dinner consisting of a Tom Kha Kai ($4.50) soup, Cucumber Salad ($6), and a vegetable Pattani ($11), plus $2 for brown in place of white rice. The soup and salad are one person sizes (the price is a clue), but we were not starving so along with the Pattani and rice the meal was certainly big enough. The amount of veggies in the Pattani was decent, though it could have been a little bit more. The coconut milk and red curry sauce was wonderful - but then again, so were the soup and salad. All the ingredients seemed to be exceptionally fresh, and well prepared (none were overcooked). We ordered the heat level as 'medium plus', and it was fine. Service was excellent, despite a very full restaurant. Tried half a dozen different Thai restaurants during my recent Michigan trip, and this was the best by far. Highly recommended.

Erbira B.

Yelp
Loved this place! Quaint, casual decor in a beautiful area. We got there at about 7pm and even though it was full we were seated quickly. Service was friendly and efficient. Food was excellent! We had both soups, the fresh rolls and the seafood combo. Everything was delicious, highly recommend.

Trisha W.

Yelp
Food is great, but to go packaging needs to be improved. I don't advise ordering curry to go. It comes in a box and all the sauce leaks out the bottom and sides. Noodles are a better option for to go.

Hope C.

Yelp
Great food. Lots of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. The wait staff is very friendly and the place is clean. Will be back!

Brad O.

Yelp
Wow. I used to love this place. The food is really good, but the customer service experience we had was beyond awful. We walked in at 8:42, with a posted close time of 9. We asked for a table for 2, and the hostess flat refused because they stop seating at 8:40. Said we would have to do carry out, instead. We laughed because it was so ridiculously arbitrary, given that we were two minutes late. We thought they were joking, but they were dead serious. We asked politely several times, and that we were really looking forward to eating there. Further, we pointed them to their sign with hours that stated nothing about such a policy. The hostess just kept claiming that she doesn't make the rules. However, the gentleman who was clearly the manager or owner (he was counting the money in the till) was standing right there and overheard the entire conversation...he didn't even bother to look up. Just ridiculous. Truly shockingly bad customer service. I told them I would have to write a bad review and they still didn't care. Long story short, when it comes to their customers...Thai Orchid just doesn't care. So. Utterly. Disappointed.

Jenny P.

Yelp
We got take out tonight. Three orders of pad Thai- needed a little more sauce but it was still really good. Served with a lemon instead of a lime. Thai fresh rolls were good except i wasn't a fan of the chicken in it. Overall happy! Gluten free friendly here!

Chris B.

Yelp
New to the area, I'm checking out new restaurants, I found Thai Orchard cuisine on Yelp and thought I'd give it a try. I was a bit hesitant because the last two reviews I read we're both one or two stars, but overall this place has a four-star rating so I went ahead. I placed a take-out order for the shrimp wrap as an appetizer and the Pad Thai Curry Chicken for my main dish. It smelled so good in the car I contemplated pulling over and eating it, the only reason I didn't was because I told them not to put any plastic cutlery in because I was eating at home. I don't have much experience with Thai food, it was all very tasty, and I would have no problem ordering it again. In general I don't give 5 stars as I consider a 5-star rating analogous to an A+ on the grading scale, and to be fair there aren't too many A+ out there.

Keith J.

Yelp
A great place for good Thai food and if you don't like spicy they will dial it back for your personal taste

Loooking F.

Yelp
The food here is alright. Not especially great though. We order one mild green curry and one medium pineapple curry. And they mixed up spice level of the two. So when I am eating the "mild" green curry, I felt lucky that I only ordered it mild cos it is quite hot already. After we found out they properly mixed up the spice of the two. My hubby has to throw out the green curry cos it is too spicy for him.

Buck A.

Yelp
Great Thai food and wonderful staff. Are go to when we have friends in town along with our at least once a week order!!

Mark F.

Yelp
If you're concerned at all about wilted and decomposing salad greens... come to this place and leave your worries behind! The absolute best fresh salad greens in town... in any townDamn...‼... ask for Don to waite on your table... He's the best personality and a genuine soul to boot... not too many of us left folks... ‍ lamestream and it's FAKE news has had a bad affect upon the nation as a whole... lie, lie, lie... and if you watch and believe the lies what does that say for your personal opinion?¿? Let's get back to the FOOD... Get the Thai Orchid walleye but order the brown sauce on the side... go ahead and get the brown rice instead of white because it's better for us healthwise! Enjoy and pass the word!! This place seriously ROCKS‼ PS... try the French Rose' wine... nice with Thai food...

Angela D.

Yelp
Solid place for Thai. I have eaten Thai all around the United States and this place hits it pretty decent. Spice levels are true to form. Medium sets your mouth on fire . Portions are right and the food is quality. The service is always great. I give it 4 stars only because this past week with take out it wasn't not as solid as its been in the past.

Monica H.

Yelp
Take-out only during Covid-19. We just took ours to Bayfront Park. Their menu has been modified as well; they aren't doing any cold items. Unfortunately that means no fresh rolls. So we got 2 different curries; both were delicious & loaded with good veggies.

Kruthi P.

Yelp
The food was amazing, no doubt about that. The reason I can't give a 5 is because we had an older man to wait our table. Initially his behavior was fine but as the dinner progressed he got really rude. We were all friends dining so we asked for check to be split 6 ways, he returns to his table saying he can work on it. Then starts banging the table and starts yelling "I don't deserve this" "this is not a good use of my time" "I could have been home resting by now" then brings the checks back and bangs them on the table! Wow! What a lesson of what NOT to do in the customer service business! Even though the food was good, I will never go to this place again! A year later - Response to my review in picture attached

Mary S.

Yelp
I had been craving spicy Thai fish for a while. When we ended up in Petoskey, I decided it was time to acquaint ourselves with Thai Orchid for the first time. Considering the northern Michigan location, fabulous food! I am not well acquainted with Thai food, but I certainly like it. The setting at Thai Orchid is fairly nice but you don't have to dress up. It's a family style restaurant. There was a family with cute kids. You can sit at a booth or a table. Lots of purple makes it seem feminine but it's not overly frilly. Our waiter was always there when we needed her. I got the curry fish (an entire walleye filet with a delicate, crispy crust) with a red curry sauce and a nice level of heat. It had one chili pepper next to the name on the menu, which meant spicy but not searing hot. Perfect level for me. Hubby got curious and tried out the jar of hot pepper flakes on the table. He found them too hot for his taste. I thought the red sprinkles were pretty nice, but didn't want to add to the heat level of my own dish. Hubby got sweet & sour chicken and let me have a bite. It was not sugary, only had a hint of sweet and blended nicely with the sour. The chicken strips were tender. Bro got Thai Orchid Chicken. One chili pepper. The curry dishes can be made gluten free. Lots of dishes are already vegetarian and can also be vegan. Hubby wants to come back someday. I quite agree.

Marie E.

Yelp
I ordered this for take out since the restaurant seating was closed due to covid. The food was hot and delicious. The Tom Ka had just the right amount of spice. I had never had Lard Na before. The gravy like sauce was wonderful and the chicken and broccoli were cooked to perfection. No, the McDonald's ice tea didn't come from this restaurant. I will definitely be visiting here again on our next trip.

Ginny B.

Yelp
Thai yumminess. Another cultural delight to have in N. MI. Worth it!! I'm quite fond of everything but crave the pad Thai curry with extra egg!! Try it all if you can!

Brent S.

Yelp
Ordered three entrees with spring roles for a picnic. The portion size for the nearly $60 order was unimpressive, and the food was average. I've had better Thai at half the cost.
