Thai food, when done right, is so amazing. That said, I think it's really hard to keep things authentic while meeting the various preferences of the local palate that you're serving. I imagine that's likely the conflict that we discovered dining here.
We arrived for lunch, and there were only 4 tables in the place. Despite it being peak lunch hour, only one other table was occupied, which could have been a tip off to us ahead of time. The menu was pretty standard, although I was impressed they had multiple options for pad thai which was unusual to me.
To start, we ordered the pad woon sen, which is hubby's favorite thai dish, and because there were so many pad thai choices, I opted for that. I asked for a thai iced tea with coconut milk instead of crème, and initially they said they couldn't do it, but then later came back and said yes, and it was good.
The entrees were polarized. Hubby's pad woon sen was excellent, with crisp veggies, and well seasoned. I was super jealous because mine was a comparative let down. My pad thai was heavy with sauce and overly sweet to the point of being sickly sweet. I was unable to finish even half of it.
The saving grace was dessert. We ordered the coconut sticky rice with mango and it was excellent. The rice was not over cooked, the coconut crème was equal parts sweet and salty, and the mango was ripe and tangy. Service was fast, prices were good, and parking was chaotic on the street. Given the unpredictability of the food, I would not likely return.
